Whatever.. too bad

I've been here twice with my wife, who really wanted to like this place. We both agree that the service is beyond terrible, especially in the bar area. However, for New West, I think their appetizers are very well put together and they even have a couple good flavour combos. But in all honesty, I'm not sure how often I'll go back, I'm so tired of poor service. The waitress is not attractive at all and this is a pub eatery. What are they thinking?

I've had better

Food: Went there on a Thursday and appies were on special for half off so we decided to try a few of those. The Brooklyn Platter which had a bit of everything was average and calamari was also average - nothing special. I ordered the chicken burger which turned out to be one of the worst chicken burgers I have ever eaten - very oily and the fries that came with it were soggy. My stomach did not feel very well for the following 2 days after I ate here.

Service: Server kept forgetting to give me the menu and iced tea. She was, however, very patient with the majority of loud and obnoxious drunk patrons = kudos to her! If it hadn't been for her patience and amazing demeanor in handling the drunks, I would have tried to find a way to give 0 stars for service since food also took its sweet time to get to our table.

Ambiance: This place gives off an aura of dirty and dingy - very dark and our seats were quite dirty (i.e. old crumbs of food) and I had to wipe mine down a few times before sitting down. The patio is nice in that it has seats and tables but again, very dirty and dingy looking. Not a great view as you get to see the Fraser River up close and it ain't clean lookin'!. A majority of patrons were also quite loud, unruly, etc - not a place to take a date but a good place to hang out with low-key drinking buddies since they have jugs of Canadian on Thurs for $12 but only if they don't mind a shady atmosphere.

Started off with me trying to order a beer. I asked her to name what they had on tap and she rattled off a list excluding my fave :( So I ordered my number 2 only to hear her mention my #1 to the table next to me. Learn your beers!

My wife ordered a ceasar but they used tomato juice instead (bloody mary) which isn't what she ordered at all.

THe food was okay I suppose. Actually tasted a million times better the next day for leftovers which was a pleasant surprise.

Positive: The view is amazing at night! The bridge looks fantastic and the place feels like a pub from a tv show.

Will we go back? Not anytime soon I don't think. Not unless they issue coupons or something to try and make an effort.

Nice Pub in the Neighborhood

We've been a couple times and always enjoy ourselves. I've had the Chicken Quesadilla (HIGHLY recommend-yUMMY), he's had the steak and the fettucine. $8.95 for the Quesadilla, good value for $$. We enjoy the atmosphere, nice view and good sized patio. Always good service, ie get drinks right away. They have nice comfy leather sofa and chairs. Check it out if you are in the neighbourhood. Good for the 40+ crowd.

3 times and no more

I first visited this place in about 2001 with a friend and presented an Ent coupon. It was the only time I was ever asked to also show the Ent card (my wife had it). This was a sign of oddness and uneasy times ahead.

All three times the meals were under-performers. The service has been poor -- long waits, not friendly, no customer service.

You would think that this place could have a real niche market - they have no competition in the category on Columbia. You get the feeling that they are trying to go out-of-business with the service level and quality that is presented.

I will not go a fourth time.

I really enjoyed this place when I lived in New West.

We used to go almost every weekend for the Garlic Prawns.....Oh my, oh my, oh my were they good! I don't remember eating anything else on the menu as it has been a few years, but I'm gonna go ahead & give it a 3 all around!

I really need to go back & check this place out again!

So Disappointing

I really want to enjoy coming to this pub! I keep giving it chances but it always lets me down.
Now that the annoying bartender and the best waitress in the place have left they have replaced them with more incompetent servers. I get the feeling they act so rude and service takes so long so that people will stop going.
Foods not bad though...And the patios have a nice view of the river. Just be prepared to wait for food and drinks.

I wish, I wish . . .

Oh how I wish! The Brooklyn is one of the few bars in New Westminster that could be so much better. It's right there on Columbia Street with that fantastic patio and wonderful view! Close to everything downtown New West! Total potential for greatness! However, the management clearly sucks because all of the service staff suck. I know, it's harsh. But I can't count the number of times that the Loud Lady Bartender has treated me like a piece of garbage while I'm up getting drinks BECAUSE the crummy waitresses haven't been around for hours. And that's on a slow night! Actually, they usually perform slightly better when it's busy, but it's barely noticeable cuz when that happens, they're understaffed. And their attitudes! Sheesh! And I KNOW the owner is in there like 80% of the time just hangin' around. I guess it doesn't matter to him if the customer's are unhappy as long as the wait staff "look hot" wink, wink.

The unfortunate truth . . . I will go there again because the location is good. And the food is usually decent. Dang.

Will NEVER go back

I suppose the sparse, empty tables should have been our first indication to NOT go in, however, we were starving and just wanted to sit down. Let me just say our experience there was unpleasant from start to finish.

Here's how it went:

- Came in, sat down, waiting about 10 minutes to be acknowledged.
- Finally got menus and water
- The menu was generic, no signature or unique dishes.
- Waited about 20 minutes for server to take our order.
- Waited about half an hour for our food to show up!!!!!!
- Had to sit and listen to some people who clearly seemed to be regulars sit at the bar swearing and yelling.
- The food was mediocre at best. (NOT worth the wait)
- Waited and waited for server to clear the table. When she finally did, we asked for our bill.
- Oh yes, waited about 20 mins for that TOO. We asked the server for the bill AGAIN and got "Oh just the bill for you then?". Seriously? We've been sitting here at the table, no food, no drinks, nothing - what did you think we were doing??!!

Anyhow, I'm horrified that I even LEFT a tip let alone paid for this experience. I could see other patrons in the bar were equally as frustrated. Two women were sitting and waiting and had to ASK for their beers and menus. I am new to New West and I can safely say I will never go back - not even to have a few beers.

Not the Best!

I'd just move on down to the Keg! The service is really bad and don't get me started on the servers themselves! The beer on tap is warm and the food was some of the worst I've had! I like to chat with bartenders and the snobbiness of this establishment is just plain awful! I won't be back even if the food quality improves!

Disorganized, Dawdling & Disappointing
By diner27 of New Westminster (1 Review)

Went for dinner on a weekend, ordered the steak entree and the strips and greens. The strips and greens was decent, the steak entree for the price included a baby burnt baked potato, an overcooked steak and warm veggies. The service was absolutly horrible, due to the fact that there was only one staff on (for bartending and serving). Where's the manager?? Where's the owner?? You can't expect one staff to run a big pub on a Saturday night alone.

I've only been there about 3 times and only had fun 1.5 of those times. The first because it was empty and I was on a cute date but the music SUCKED. Then I went there with some people to dance and the dance floor was soooo small and soooo crowded, but the DJ was nice and replayed a song I really liked. It was super packed though, and I waited for like 15mins to get a drink in line at the bar, and then the waitress was really snobby to me. It's kind of a wait to get them delivered to your table too... and there's only one pool table. If you like crowded, go here (not on a week day though) if not... don't go.
Also I lost my hat and asked to go get it and he wouldnt let me after I went out. Jerk... I just remembered I hate brooklyn's...

I love this place, it is very low key, and they have great appys, I have not tried anything else, but love the appys and their Ceasars are great too. The service is excellent, the staff is very friendly and the view is fantastic.
If you have an urge to shoot pool they have a pool table also.
The outdoor patio is great in the summer.
