This place was awful. I came in with my family reservation and was discusted with the table we received. Not only was our waitress slow, inattentive and forgetful, 2/8 of our meals came out wrong! Although the portion sizes are very reasonable the food is awful. Overall just an awful awful experience. Plus, the waitress forgot about the birthday dessert. Embarassing!
I enjoy dining here on the run as the food is fresh and it has an appeal over the typical sub joint places that are everywhere in the area. The menu is large with many healthy options to choose from. The ordering and creation of your food are both quick and well done. I usually don't sit and eat in there, but the restaurant is clean and inviting.
The service and deli counter are fine, but this store is run down and old. The other QF stores are so much bigger and better. I am not sure how they will fair against the competition(Country Grocer, Save On, Thriftys) unless they do some major upgrades.
Parking is terrible in busy times and the clientele are very "blue collar" if you will...
The Keg is a higher scale eatery chain across Canada and the US, and this location is no different. The food and service were very good, like they always deliver. The restaurant itself was well decorated, clean and comfortable. The value for the food is alright. It's expensive, but steak meals generally are. The steaks themselves were not the best I have ever had, but they were better than average. Still, I am not sure it is a place that I would recommend to visitors. There are nicer places around the area that are of a better value.
I always get great service here and so does my wife. The food is excellent, what more can you really say? I always recommend the butternut squash ravioli with prawns. It is one of the finest pasta dishes i have eaten in my life. The atmosphere is hip and cool, and the servers too. It is a bit pricey, but its worth it to treat yourself to high quality food that stands out among the rest.
I liked the chicken more than the pizza. It had a great original spice flavor to it. The pizza was sort of boring, but it wasn't greasy, which I appreciated greatly. It was just not that exciting. My suggestion would be to order the chicken from here and your stomach will thank you.
This is a great place for coffee or a light lunch. They have excellent selections of homemade goodies for everyone. Chocolates made right there, many different breads and baked items, plus some international groceries. I was happy with my visit and I know where I am going to be buying my bread from now on!
I recently moved to the area, and after reading the reviews, decided to give this restaurant a try. The order was taken quickly and efficiently and my food was ready when they said it would be. The restaurant appeared to be nice and there were many people dining when I picked up my food. The food was rich and delicious. The portions were large and the price was rice. Two of the staff(perhaps the owner) went out of their way to welcome me to the area and asked if I needed any extra cutlery as I may not have been completely unpacked yet. lol. I thought that was great and I will be a repeat customer for sure.
We were hungry and late. Went to Alice's Restaruant for Breakfast: We ordered two eggs, slice of ham, potatoes and toast. When it came it looked good, was well cooked, and tasted great. All for $4.49!! More than enough to eat, wife could not finish hers.As good as breakfast anywhere and 1/2 the price with good pleasant service. Easy to get to location.
Went with wife and I ordered turkey dinner with roast potatoes and she ordered turkey schnitzel with roast potatoes. Her roast potatoes were inedible and mine were only a bit better. She could not eat hers and I had trouble with mine. Server brought mashed potatoes, good but the gravy was packaged stuff.
Stick with the fries!
All I can say about this restaurant is AWESOME. The food is great, the staff and owner are wonderful. If you have not tried this restaurant I encourage you to give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
My favorite was the Chicken Hot Pot, with their fabulous green tea.
The restaurant is clean, and tastefully decorated.
I have been to this restaurant twice so far and both times the food was outstanding and was complimented by genuine, attentive service. The atmosphere is more than pleasant, I find it to be romantic and warm. Each experience has left me with thankful tastebuds and nothing but compliments for all aspects of this restaurant. It is clean, classy, and reasonably priced for tasty and authentic Italian cuisine. The owner and staff are friendly, warm and welcoming. I urge you, if you have not yet visited Cucina di Casa, to do so. It is the perfect restaurant for a wonderfully romantic date with someone special or for an enjoyable experience that will bring the family together. This is a lovely place and I will most certainly visit again.
It was the second time visiting this place in the last year. The food was decent, but like the first time, the service was not so great. The first visit, we waited to be seated for about 10 minutes although plenty of tables were available. They seemed to have no issue keeping us waiting.
This time, we got our table soon enough but then there was the wait to order the food. She didn't come around for awhile and then we were told to wait as she wasn't ready to take our order. After about 15 minutes after deciding on our food was she ready to take our order. The place wasn't even busy. There was maybe only two other parties in the restaurant. I found this a little off-putting.
The food was good, although a little expensive for what it was.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice (the layout, style, etc.) although it was a little cold and drafty.
The food, the ambiance, the service everything was so good....we had a very good experience.
I had the soup of the day and my friend had the fresh pasta....wow .
We were looking for a place with good food and ambiance, we go it.
Finally, two chefs who knows how to cook !!!
The food is very well priced. You always get service with a surprise, and a lot of people soon become regulars. Probably one of my favorite little holes in the wall. Good ethnic food at a price that is fair for the average joe. If you are in my neck of the woods come check it out!
After living many years in Japan, it's a relief to find somewhere that produces reasonably priced and delicious sushi. Every time I go, I sit at the counter and chat with the young sushi chef. He's got a passion for food and really seems to enjoy being asked for special rolls. Ask him for his Weapon of Choice; not on the menu and is fantastic.
My friends and I went there to grab some food for our picnic. The service was great! The food was ready just in few minutes and it was yummy! They had some interesting rolls that were different from other japanese places in Nanaimo.
I'm asian and from Vancouver, so I know my sushi, and I thought the selections were great. It tasted like home-made sushi that my mom used to make.
The owners(?) of the place was very friendly! They seemed very happy :) It's always good to see that people like what they do, because it shows when they prepare your meal.
I'd definitely go there again when I drop by Nanaimo :D
The Thirsty Camel is by far my favorite place for lunch in Nanaimo. Starting with the staffs approach to service (ie they work hard to call you by your first name and make a connection with their customers) to their commitment to great, fresh, sustainable food. You can tell right away this place is about more than just making a profit.
Dishes are a mix of middle eastern dishes such as Persian Chicken, Pitas, Falafal, etc. There is a wide variety of salads and sides to complement mains and their soups are all home made with vegetables you can identify.
Drinks and deserts are all organic or independent.
A good place for lunch though some dishes would work for dinner.
Once in while I like to head up the hill and go for lunch at Delicado's. The restaurant interior is setup with cantina style decor and when the weather is warm the front patio is a great place to have lunch in the sun. The food is a mix of freshly made Mexican inspired main courses and salads; the drink fridge also goes beyond the typical Coke / Pepsi with a number of organic and independent options. Although I believe they are open in the evening it really seems like lunch is their busiest time of day.
They're are lots of good Thai restaurants in Vancouver and Victoria but I never found a favorite. I have to say that Sukkho Thai is superb, definitely the best Thai place in Nanaimo, and would even been in my top picks btw Vancover, Victoria and Nanaimo. Foods great, service is well done and the ambiance is nice.
