I prefer pasta and they make the best pasta I have ever tasted.
The salads are great as well as they are made fresh daily.
The choices are the best I have ever had.
You have your choices of sauces and what ever you want on pasta or your pizza..
With the pasta, you can have a choice of sause and salad.
My husband loves pizza and he had the best pizza at La Cuisana Roma that he has ever had.
What is really amazing is that you can watch your pizza being made right in front of you and you can watch it going thru the oven and come out nice and hot. So you can see everything on it is fresh.
This is a 5 star rating in our minds. You just have to check it out.
The people are fast, efficient, and friendly and the prices are the best in town. Where else can you get a really fresh pizza for $5.00.
This place is amazing.............a whole new concept for a food court. The staff are super friendly and care about your order. They are friendly, efficient and always have a smile. The food is out of this world. The absolute best pizza and as fresh as you can get it. Build your own and begin the creation for your taste buds. I would say everyone needs to go check this place out................Bon Appetite !!!!!
Pizza is amazing! You can even get what they call a Take N Bake, and cook them at home. You can follow them on facebook. Really good food....FAST! We started going to La Cuisana Roma when they first opened last year. They are located in Woodgrove Mall in the food court. Love watching them make the pizza's right in front of us. We can see how fresh everything is! Check them out! Best pizza in town!
Ordered two orders of fish n chips... $9 and $12 from the Oxy pub
Fish was cod or haddock, thickly battered and overcooked. Fish, were very small pieces.. one end almost burnt to a crisp, presentation very poor, fries thrown on the plate.. nothing like what you'd be served at a true fish n chips place.
Worth $21 plus HST tax n tip? for a total of nearly $27. Nope...The offering A total ripoff
The only redeeming factor was the serviceable was above average, and I did tip.
Not a recommended buy... Hard to justify Pub food, a couple of beers (glasses) some appy wings and the fish n chips coming to over $40 for 2
Our party of 7 made reservations and were quickly seated for dinner.
The servers and what appeared to be a manager were all friendly and helpful.
The food was tasty - I will not be daydreaming about it - but I enjoyed my meal. I had the 1/2 rack of slow cooked ribs with a baked potato and mixed vegetables ($19.99). My daughter had the baked chicken with penne alfredo and mixed vegetables ($8.99). My son had a burger with fries (can't remember exact price). My husband had a penne dish and I can't recall what the others had.
The food was good and, again, the service was good. I appreciated the server listening to my order and omitting the lettuce, onions and pickle from his burger and serving the mayo and ketchup on the side so he could dress it the way he wants (he has a sensory disorder and this peculiar ordering is really important). I also thought that she interacted well with both the older adults and the children.
I had some issues with the process. After we ordered - the waitress returned after at least 15 minutes and advised my husband that they were out of his original pasta choice. I have always had a problem with this. The serving staff need to be advised of shortages BEFORE serving the guests. This can be accomplished by communication between the kitchen and front staff (faciliated by the manager).
Also, the sun was moving west and shining through a window. It was quite a glare. The manager was quick to try to correct it (putting blockers in the window to prevent the sunlight from coming in and shining into our faces). I appreciated his effort. However, it would be nice to have blinds or drapes that can be drawn to prevent it from happening. The manager admitted that the blinds weren't working. Maybe it is time to get them replaced...
In general - I enjoyed our meals. It was good for families with a nice kids menu. There was something for everyone and the price point was reasonable.
I have had a lot of pad thai and this stuff was not good. It was the tradiotional tamarind sauce, not tomato but tasted like not much of anything. It was very dry too. It had peanuts but oddly they had little flavour. There was no green onion in it as there should be and not much else. There were two odd little pieces of semi cooked broccoli(that was yellow around the edges) to the side. The shrimp was not mixed in as with most of the ingredients. It looks like they just reheated some noodles and put the other stuff on top. The shrimp also was BAD, They tasted so gross I could not eat them - it was a Monday so probably left over from the weekend. Booo.
A curry dish was ok but tasted as good as a Presdent's choice frozen meal. The rice was dry and did not taste of anything. The spring rolls were good - hot and crispy but little flavor inside.
Don't you go for thai food for an explosion of flavors. Here you get more of a little spurt and fizzle.
I have recommended this restaurant to many travellers heading to Nanaimo. A few came back to report what a disappointment it had been. I chalked this up to their poor taste in food. After a few years of being away from Nanaimo I decided to hop over there for lunch, in one of the best restaurants around in my opinion. I took my nephew and was so excited to be going.
As soon as we walked in I knew something was amiss. What once was wonderful ambiance was now a hodge-podge of stuff that one may have gotten while travelling, or from someone else's grandmother. What's with the luck cats? Perhaps it is because they now serve sushi? Regardless, it clashes with the pub atmosphere left behind by the previous owners who had impeccable taste, in décor as in food!
Sadly the new owners also lack taste in food. Our meals arrived and we were terribly, terribly disappointed. Flavourless, poor presentation, not a good value.
For some all you can eat is great. For me, I'd rather have a small taste of heaven than a heap of garbage on my tongue any day!
The previous owners should have made these people change the name... does anyone know where the previous owners went? Did they open something somewhere else? Please tell me that they still have a fabulous restaurant somewhere... one to help us forget the terrible experience at this one!
Do yourself a favour and go to McDonalds instead!
This is the best Asian food we have found since moving to the Nanaimo area 2 years ago. Have been here 6 times, everything we have ordered was well prepared, hot, fresh and tasty. It is a big "kitchen table" kind of place. Service is efficient and friendly. Portions are large and prices are reasonable.
This place is just OK. The food is passable but expensive. Nice atmosphere, quite empty the 4 times I have been there. Service is odd, not sure if they do not really want business, are just laid back, or perhaps are inexperienced servers who are shy. There is a real shortage of good Asian restaurants in the Nanaimo area so we have been back a few times.
The food at Alices has gone way downhill!
The service was substandard and the management was unsympathetic, refusing to recook my order because it was over cooked to my liking. The fish was battered but when I broke through the batter it was void of fish and I was falsely accused of eating the fish before I complained. The fries were way over cooked and dripped with grease, yet my server refused to replace my order and I had to pay full price.
Aside from the poor food quality,I noticed the restaurant is very dirty everywhere, floors, walls, windows, doors and even the washrooms smelled badly and clearly needed a thorough cleaning. The towel and soap dispensers were empty and when I reported the problem to the staff I was shrugged off, someone told me they were too busy for that right now.
Alices is no longer the great restaurant it used to be.
Customer beware! You may still save a dollar or two eatting there but getting sick will not be worth it!
I had previously ordered sushi from here and wasn't impressed, but being that Nanaimo doesn't have a whole lot of selection, I have tried it again a few times. I must say that I now really enjoy the sushi here. It is always fresh and priced favorably. I guess I am more accustomed to a wide variety of crazy rolls, but what Tomo does best is keeping it simple. I find it so convenient to grab some takeout from their deli style set up or have a quick bite in the restaurant. You won me over Tomo!
If you want sushi in Nanaimo, then you need to stop here. It's the best in town.
Can't get enough of this place. The servers are fantastic, the food is amazing, the portions are huge and the beer is cheap. Other restaurants in Nanaimo could take a look at there quality of food and prices, I recommend Joe's to everybody, my favourite night is Wing Night. Proud to be a regular customer of OJ's Nanaimo and hope that everybody tries em out. The only negative is the line-ups on the weekend, but I'm sure it'll die down soon.
Second place that I have been to that I have seen on the tv show " you have to eat here". Both place were horrible. We were there last night in a table of 5. Mushroom burger was horrible, tasted alot like a 7-11 burger. Wonton soup war wonton was disgusting.
I recommend that if you dont believe me go there and try yourself. I have eaten better food on the BC ferries.
But it was just a veneer. The food was yucky, desu yo! The tempura was so saturated in grease that I could eat no more than a few pieces. The beans sprouts were saturated in oil and burnt. The vegetables were raw so I used my fingers. The sushi tuna wasn't fresh. Sad as it was a birthday lunch and we drove a long way to try this place. We are still looking for good sushi in the neighbourhood...
Boy oh boy this is some spot if you like British style pubs!
Even the exterior is pure Yorkshire - a quaint house in the middle of a cow field in the country, a drive off the highway that's well worth it.
It's got it all in the true English tradition: the low wooden ceilings, dark beams, portraits, real fireplaces, snugs, wooden settles, dark wainscotting, stonework. There's no deep fry; they feature delicious hot pies and sandwiches, potato salad, slaw. My favourite is the steak and kidney pie. You order at the bar and pay up front and the food's brought to your table so there's no issue with slow or bad service. There's plenty of good local beer on tap and all the English beer and cider. There's no feeling of hurry and hassle; you leave that at the heavy wooden door when you come in. It feels like home.
I visit every time I'm in the area. Can't say enough about the place.
"Corbus et Cullis" delight.
Took my wife to Aladdin's in Nanaimo last weekend. She's vegetarian so I was looking for something interesting down that line. She had the falafel wrap and I had the lamb wrap. We both had the curried lentil soup to go with our wraps as a combo. We shared the rose pudding for dessert. All of the food was very good, fresh and nicely prepared. My lamb was quite good and I'd probably have it again. But then I had a bite of my wife's falafel and must say, it's the best I ever had. She said the same thing. Needles to say, I'll skip the meat next time too. The soup was a little bit spicy, as we like it, and nicely seasoned. All in all the food was great. It took a little bit longer then we expected, for the food to come. There were only two other tables with customers. However we got there quite late (about 9:15 PM) and were told they had a very busy service earlier. They may have been running out of steam or some supplies and had to make extra for us. No big deal. Service was otherwise very friendly and helpful.
Only bad thing I can say about the place is that it really needs a good scrub down. All the furniture looks very worn and grimy. So does the floor.
Prices were reasonable for the quality of food.
We will probably be back at Aladdin's on our next visit to Nanaimo.
I have been here a couple of times based on my father in law's recommendation, and I have been pleased both times. The food was solid, but a bit pricey and the beer was great. It was also packed downstairs in the pub area with people of all ages. A great place to hangout after work.
I found my meal to be excellent in taste and quality. The service was excellent and my food was received quickly. They had an excellent fish and peanut sauce. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were so tasty. If I had one complaint, it would be that the salad roll is just one roll cut into two. Most other places give you two rolls of the same size as the one I received. However, it was fresh and delicious. Excited to try the other dishes on the menu now.
I love this place. I have driven past the sign on the highway several times, and one day I decided to take a trip out there. Both my visitor and I were impressed by the pub and the service. We were able to get a table outside(it was packed!) and the gardens were lovely and well tended. It was so unexpectedly pleasant that I would highly recommend visiting the pub to anyone who wants an extraordinary pub experience.
The first time we ate here the food was great, the next time we came in it tasted like nothing. The tzaziki sauce has way too much dill and there isn't enough hummus in the wraps. The server is great, and the cafe like atmosphere is pleasant. Will not come back again. Unfortunately all of nanaimo has poor international cuisine.
