Can't get enough of this place. The servers are fantastic, the food is amazing, the portions are huge and the beer is cheap. Other restaurants in Nanaimo could take a look at there quality of food and prices, I recommend Joe's to everybody, my favourite night is Wing Night. Proud to be a regular customer of OJ's Nanaimo and hope that everybody tries em out. The only negative is the line-ups on the weekend, but I'm sure it'll die down soon.
Alices restaurant is where you get any great meal anyway you want it,when you want it!
Breakfast,lunch and dinner all day!
Unbeatable prices for quality foods and service.
Diners can also enjoy their favourite tv shows with 3 screens to choose from or ask your server to select the channel you want! Or you can enjoy the view of the ocean and Gabriola Island.
A large seating capacity makes Alices a great place for meetings too!
Convenient reservations, just call 1 hour to 1 day, ahead to reserve a table for 1-30 or more!
The friendly staff will make you feel at home, come on be pampered!
If you haven't tried Alices you have been missing out!
Second place that I have been to that I have seen on the tv show " you have to eat here". Both place were horrible. We were there last night in a table of 5. Mushroom burger was horrible, tasted alot like a 7-11 burger. Wonton soup war wonton was disgusting.
I recommend that if you dont believe me go there and try yourself. I have eaten better food on the BC ferries.
But it was just a veneer. The food was yucky, desu yo! The tempura was so saturated in grease that I could eat no more than a few pieces. The beans sprouts were saturated in oil and burnt. The vegetables were raw so I used my fingers. The sushi tuna wasn't fresh. Sad as it was a birthday lunch and we drove a long way to try this place. We are still looking for good sushi in the neighbourhood...
Boy oh boy this is some spot if you like British style pubs!
Even the exterior is pure Yorkshire - a quaint house in the middle of a cow field in the country, a drive off the highway that's well worth it.
It's got it all in the true English tradition: the low wooden ceilings, dark beams, portraits, real fireplaces, snugs, wooden settles, dark wainscotting, stonework. There's no deep fry; they feature delicious hot pies and sandwiches, potato salad, slaw. My favourite is the steak and kidney pie. You order at the bar and pay up front and the food's brought to your table so there's no issue with slow or bad service. There's plenty of good local beer on tap and all the English beer and cider. There's no feeling of hurry and hassle; you leave that at the heavy wooden door when you come in. It feels like home.
I visit every time I'm in the area. Can't say enough about the place.
"Corbus et Cullis" delight.
Just happened to be driving by looking for a place to eat with a friend of mine when we saw the sign "KOREAN CUISINE". Realizing that we had never tried Korean food, combined with the feelings of adventure, we decided to go in and take a look.
The restaurant is a beautiful wooden cabin-style building, with many paintings by artist JaeBok Lee lining the walls. To our surprise, there was also musicians there playing quiet Jazz while customers were enjoying their food. We later found out that this restaurant holds Jazz nights every Wednesday.
Because of our lack of experience with Korean food, we had a lot of questions. The owner: Joo, was very helpful in explaining all the dishes on the menu one-by-one, and helped us make the scary decision of picking new food to try. Her suggestions did not fail us. I had a Bibimbab, a rice dish with a hearty serving of various vegetables and a very unique spicy sauce that added a nice balance to the vegetables. My friend had a DakChim, which is braised chicken with carrots and potatoes served with rice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals with nothing left to take home.
The amount of food was more than expected from experiences in other Asian cuisine such as Japanese or Thai, and the spicyness of the food was not overwhelming but was perfectly balanced with a certain sweetness of the marinade.
Since the first time, we've been back a few times because we miss the food so much!
5/5
Took my wife to Aladdin's in Nanaimo last weekend. She's vegetarian so I was looking for something interesting down that line. She had the falafel wrap and I had the lamb wrap. We both had the curried lentil soup to go with our wraps as a combo. We shared the rose pudding for dessert. All of the food was very good, fresh and nicely prepared. My lamb was quite good and I'd probably have it again. But then I had a bite of my wife's falafel and must say, it's the best I ever had. She said the same thing. Needles to say, I'll skip the meat next time too. The soup was a little bit spicy, as we like it, and nicely seasoned. All in all the food was great. It took a little bit longer then we expected, for the food to come. There were only two other tables with customers. However we got there quite late (about 9:15 PM) and were told they had a very busy service earlier. They may have been running out of steam or some supplies and had to make extra for us. No big deal. Service was otherwise very friendly and helpful.
Only bad thing I can say about the place is that it really needs a good scrub down. All the furniture looks very worn and grimy. So does the floor.
Prices were reasonable for the quality of food.
We will probably be back at Aladdin's on our next visit to Nanaimo.
I have been here a couple of times based on my father in law's recommendation, and I have been pleased both times. The food was solid, but a bit pricey and the beer was great. It was also packed downstairs in the pub area with people of all ages. A great place to hangout after work.
I found my meal to be excellent in taste and quality. The service was excellent and my food was received quickly. They had an excellent fish and peanut sauce. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were so tasty. If I had one complaint, it would be that the salad roll is just one roll cut into two. Most other places give you two rolls of the same size as the one I received. However, it was fresh and delicious. Excited to try the other dishes on the menu now.
I love this place. I have driven past the sign on the highway several times, and one day I decided to take a trip out there. Both my visitor and I were impressed by the pub and the service. We were able to get a table outside(it was packed!) and the gardens were lovely and well tended. It was so unexpectedly pleasant that I would highly recommend visiting the pub to anyone who wants an extraordinary pub experience.
The first time we ate here the food was great, the next time we came in it tasted like nothing. The tzaziki sauce has way too much dill and there isn't enough hummus in the wraps. The server is great, and the cafe like atmosphere is pleasant. Will not come back again. Unfortunately all of nanaimo has poor international cuisine.
This place was awful. I came in with my family reservation and was discusted with the table we received. Not only was our waitress slow, inattentive and forgetful, 2/8 of our meals came out wrong! Although the portion sizes are very reasonable the food is awful. Overall just an awful awful experience. Plus, the waitress forgot about the birthday dessert. Embarassing!
I enjoy dining here on the run as the food is fresh and it has an appeal over the typical sub joint places that are everywhere in the area. The menu is large with many healthy options to choose from. The ordering and creation of your food are both quick and well done. I usually don't sit and eat in there, but the restaurant is clean and inviting.
The service and deli counter are fine, but this store is run down and old. The other QF stores are so much bigger and better. I am not sure how they will fair against the competition(Country Grocer, Save On, Thriftys) unless they do some major upgrades.
Parking is terrible in busy times and the clientele are very "blue collar" if you will...
The Keg is a higher scale eatery chain across Canada and the US, and this location is no different. The food and service were very good, like they always deliver. The restaurant itself was well decorated, clean and comfortable. The value for the food is alright. It's expensive, but steak meals generally are. The steaks themselves were not the best I have ever had, but they were better than average. Still, I am not sure it is a place that I would recommend to visitors. There are nicer places around the area that are of a better value.
I always get great service here and so does my wife. The food is excellent, what more can you really say? I always recommend the butternut squash ravioli with prawns. It is one of the finest pasta dishes i have eaten in my life. The atmosphere is hip and cool, and the servers too. It is a bit pricey, but its worth it to treat yourself to high quality food that stands out among the rest.
I liked the chicken more than the pizza. It had a great original spice flavor to it. The pizza was sort of boring, but it wasn't greasy, which I appreciated greatly. It was just not that exciting. My suggestion would be to order the chicken from here and your stomach will thank you.
This is a great place for coffee or a light lunch. They have excellent selections of homemade goodies for everyone. Chocolates made right there, many different breads and baked items, plus some international groceries. I was happy with my visit and I know where I am going to be buying my bread from now on!
I recently moved to the area, and after reading the reviews, decided to give this restaurant a try. The order was taken quickly and efficiently and my food was ready when they said it would be. The restaurant appeared to be nice and there were many people dining when I picked up my food. The food was rich and delicious. The portions were large and the price was rice. Two of the staff(perhaps the owner) went out of their way to welcome me to the area and asked if I needed any extra cutlery as I may not have been completely unpacked yet. lol. I thought that was great and I will be a repeat customer for sure.
I ordered after reading great reviews and chose a selection of rolls. I ordered the cali, spicy cali, unagi and smoked salmon roll. I would say that they were all fairly mediocre, but adequate. I wouldn't give it a bad review, but I couldn't go as far as to recommend it to a friend. It was fine enough, but definitely not worth repeat business. I am going to try some of the other places in town to see what else is out here.
