Awful, humiliating experience

A few friends and I, looking for a hookah bar in central Mississauga, opted to visit El Fishawy. Boy, was this ever a mistake. I wish I'd read reviews on this place prior to showing up there last night. We waited at the door to be seated, as is the norm, for about 15-20 minutes. We were ignored. No staff came up to us to tell us about wait times. That's okay, right? Well, it would have been had that been the extent of the rude behaviour. Caucasian customers and those of Arab descent would show up behind us and be immediately allowed in and seated. What is this, the 1960s in Alabama? How can an establishment in Canada, in 2013, continue to remain open when they discriminate based on ethnicity on a regular basis?

(FYI: My experience wasn't an isolated incident. Please refer to reviews on other sites such as UrbanSpoon to read more on racist experiences at this hookah bar.)

We were denied service on the basis of our skin colour. It's as simple as that. When we politely approached the staff to ask when and if we could be seated, the server, without even bothering to make eye contact, told us to step behind the door and rudely asked, 'can't you see there's no space?' Appalled at the way we had just been spoken to (this has never happened to me before. I'm South Asian and never in my entire life have I been treat like this, by anyone), we decided to leave. This place certainly did not deserve our business.

Make no mistake, if you are a person of colour, please decide against going to this establishment. Their attitudes seem to be stuck in the Middle East where the sub-par treatment of ethnic minorities is the norm. It is NOT okay to engage in blatant discrimination in Canada. Perhaps they didn't get this memo.
Terrible experience. Save yourself the trouble.
