I went to the Maple Ridge location on the week end. I have eaten at the North Van before and always enjoyed their food and friendly service. Here at Maple Ridge is no different, clean, friendly, helpful service and good food. They also bring it to your table after you order. I ordered the Jungle Curry regular size and green onion cakes. It's a big portion and was way more food than I should've eaten. The green onion cakes are very tasty (tottally recommend this to everyone). Price is a bit higher than other fast food places but I didn't mind, it's tottally worth it. Besides, they also have cheaper options on the lunch size, which I've had before and is a good portion as well. I noticed thet here they have beer on tap besides the choices on bottle. We ordered acouple of pints. Over all I do recommend this place, very decent food, quick and good service. I will come back again!
I remember when I used to live in North Van I would go to the local De Dutch there and I had not been to a location in a very long time, so after church I decided to go. The wait at the door was a little bit frustrating but I guess that shows alot of people love this place. I had the "windmill" which was recommended to us by the waitress. It was a great choice. I waited about 15 mins for my food which isnt bad considering it was pretty busy.
My hubby and I were totally pleased with the food. Not exactly what I remember from my days in North Van but tasty nonetheless. We were totally stuffed after breakfast. Not sure what the previous review was about, perhaps they were having a bad day or something but the value is pretty good. Sure it might be a few dollars more but you are getting a completely different dish from all the local places around town. I used to be a huge pantry fan but this is a great alternative if you want something a little different from the same ol scrambled eggs and toast around town. The bill for the both of us was about 30 bucks with tip. Not bad especially since we got awesome service from the lovely young lady. I will totally be back. Good thing cause I always do my Sunday grocery shop in Westgate Mall.
We have eaten here a few times now and while I can't rave about the place, I can't knock it either. The food is tasty enough, priced right for most budgets and the service is friendly and attentive. I can't ask for much more that this! We will continue to eat here when in a mood for Chinese.
It was Valentine's Day, and though I knew it'd be busy... wow I didn't expect it to be that busy! I guess it isn't their fault, but everyone was literally sitting inches away from each other, and tiny tables were set up and as many were squished in to the restaurant as could fit for all the couples. What started off as hopeful (I love Greek food) ended up being very... mediocre unfortunately. Nothing special at all. I had a sea food skewer with rice, potato and Greek salad... everything I could have really made at home. I did end up being full... but for the prices the value of the food was ridiculous. Between the two of us we spent over $50 and we didn't know why!!! The rice was okay, tasted kind of like an instant rice though. They didn't give much seafood on my skewer at all, and the scallops were kind of watery tasting. The Greek salad was probably best part, but it's kind of hard to mess up a salad.
All in all, it was okay food... but DEFINITELY NOT WORTH the $25+ per dish... I'm sorry, but I'm not coming back!! Next time I want Greek food but don't feel like making it at home, I will go to Opa's!!
The food is really, really good. I've eaten here three times and every time I loved my meal.
The service unfortunately... is not very good. I've been here with my friends for birthdays so I guess it's usually a big group, but I never expect a shorter then an hour wait for my food. I always get an appetizer after I learned the first time. Their cheese bread is really, really good. They also give free bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dipping if you don't want to spend money on an appetizer, so it's not too bad. The wait is definitely worth it though, because as I said, the food is delicious.
Another reason why I find the service to be not so great, is because last time the waitress didn't ask what order of pasta we wanted, so automatically assumed EVERYONE wanted large... and guess what, the large costs about $4 more then the small!! Luckily we managed to change our order in time, except for my one friend. I'm glad I didn't get the large size though, because they give more then enough pasta with a small. I was really full, and still had some left overs for lunch the next day!! =)
Finally, the value is actually pretty good, but I find it a bit too expensive. But it's alright, definitely not the worst I've had in comparison to the portions they give. The feel of the place is very quaint and comfy, I think it'd be a good place to go for Valentine's or a family gathering. But again, you have to have patience... the service IS slow, especially on weekends.
I absolutely love the feel of this place. I came here with my boyfriend for the first time, his family loves it here. Their breakfast is really good, but unfortunately it's too fatty for me as I've a sensitive stomach, I ended up getting a horrible stomach ache after. Their dinner I'm fine with, because it's so hard to find a decent veggie burger, but they nailed it!!! The milkshakes are also REALLY delicious!! I highly recommend having a lunch or dinner here, pretty good food in an interesting location. I have come back multiple times, and plan to come back again sometime!
The food is pretty average. If you aren't a huge fan of burgers then you won't really like this place, as the rest of the menu isn't all that great. I've been here quite a few times because my boyfriend loves this place... honestly, it's okay. It's just your average American food, nothing special. I usually just end up getting Quesadillas which are okay, it's hard to mess up those. The salads I think are wayy too overpriced. More then the burgers usually, which I find odd. The service is good though, I've never had to wait long.
However, there was one experience I had that disappointed me when I did decide to order something different. I got the terryaki bowl and it was really awful. There was WAYYY too much sauce, the rice ended up being soggy. There wasn't much chicken in it at all, so in the end all I had was soggy rice with vegetables. This is why I'm so disappointed in this place. The only thing they're really good at is making burgers!!!
My favourite place to go when I'm craving Indian food. I will never try cooking my own curry or butter chicken because I'm sure it won't compare. Only reason why I think the value is just ok is because I don't like how you have to buy the rice separately... for an almost extra $7.. How can you eat curry without rice?? The rest of the experience is worth it though. Also, if you come here... you absolutely must try the strawberry cheesecake. Best cheesecake I've ever eaten!! I highly recommend it, if you are wanting a tasty dessert.
I have been coming back here again and again for a few years now. I've been to other sushi restaurants in Maple Ridge, but I've decided I'll never go to another Japanese restaurant in Maple Ridge. The service is good, the place is small but comfy, and though the food is just your generic Japanese food, they have amazing value!
I've eaten at Sagres so many times, I couldn't even begin to count, but it never gets boring.
If you're not familiar with Portuguese food... I feel sorry for you. Go to Sagres. Everything they do is delicious but in particular, its the fish dishes that stand out. The rice pilaf and fried potatos that come with most mains are very filling, but absolutely great.. you might not even realise how good they are until you've taken home leftovers and tried them the next day. The pork and clams are one of their more traditional offerings, and should not be missed. If this combination sounds strange to you, just buck up and try it, it'll be one of the most unique and flavourful things you'll ever eat, while at the same time, staying very simple and rustic.
On some days Santos has real ling cod, or red snapper on special. If he mentions "fresh cod" or snapper as a special of the day, order it. The sauce for the cod is a spicy and tangy dressing with piri piri, white wine, sauteed onions, stewed tomatos and butter. The fish itself is lightly dredged in seasoned flower and pan fried after marinating in some kind of magic liquid. When combined, these two things which are already great on their own, become even more special, and he uses only the freshest, best quality fish.
If none of this has convinced you to try this place, then consider the value. The portion sizes from the lunch menu would be generous for dinner at any other restaurant you've been to, and they range from about $10 to $14. The dinner menu ranges from about $15 to $25, and these enormous piles of perfection don't fit on normal dinner plates. Be prepared to be fed.
I recently tried Markos for the first time. It's only been open for literally a few days, so I wasn't sure what I could realistically expect. Restaurants often take some time to work the bugs out, and really get things right, but this is not the case here.
I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't have a glass of wine with my lunch, since the license hadn't cleared yet, but that's hardly a big deal, and completely understandable. I ordered beef souvlaki which was up in about 10 mins, and much better than I'd expected. I asked for medium rare since beef souvlaki is generally overcooked in my opinion, and it was done exactly as it should be. The quality of the beef was very good, chewy but tender, well marinated with a very nice prominence of greek herbs, and an excellent charbroil flavour, without any phenolic, burnt fat taste that sometimes occurs in flame cooked meat dishes. The roast potato was also top notch, with a strong lemon juice, broth and herb profile that you expect but don't always get at greek restaurants. The rice was also very good but not quite as excellent as the beef and potato, and the salad was exactly on point.
At $10.95 the value on the lunch menu is excellent for that quantity and quality of skillfully made food. When I ordered, I asked the waitress how much it would cost to add a skewer of chicken, which turned out to be $10. A little steep to say the least, so I didn't. I can hardly complain about that though, there was enough food to satisfy two normal human beings. ; )
Definitely try this place. The cook is an old pro, and the service is friendly and competent.
We've had Delizie's for two events now and I hope we only use them for our future events! Amazing and savoury wraps--such variety and flavour. Fantastic desserts, great sandwiches--we were happy with everything! I don't usually like wraps, but the bread was so fresh. And the vegetarian sandwiches were amazing--usually the vegie people get ripped off in the sang dept, but these were creative: avocados, flavourful cream cheeses, red peppers..mmmmmmm....We've also had the soups, pasta dishes, and salad. Pretty much everything was wonderful and I hope we have them cater our next event.
I have been waiting for this place to open and tonight I tried the pizza. Delicious! Traditional crust, loaded with toppings and the right amount of cheese. The owners came out and chatted a bit, friendly, welcoming, asking my opinion on the pizza. I will be going back soon to try the souvlaki!
I went to the Kingfishers Waterfront Bar last night for a friends Birthday celebration. The fourth person of our party arrived and ordered a drink. Her drink arrived she picked it up to have a sip when the bottom of the glass detached from the glass leaving the contents all over her lap. We were all so surprised when this happened we sat there for a moment. A lady at another table ran to get help. The server arrrived with napkins. Napkins could not deal with this. The manager arrived with towels not much better than the napkins. He did not apologize! He had very little care or concern. Our friend went in to try and dry her pants. She was so embarrassed and humiliated. Her efforts were futile as she was soaked to the skin. When she told the manager she couldn't deal with this mess with the towels or hand dryer. He said" sorry, all I can do is give you towels." My friend said" that's all you can do?" He said "yes" She said you are not going to offer me anything? He said "Nope!" She was so uncomfortable and upset she left. It really ruined our Birthday celebration. When I told the server our fourth guest had left she apologized and said the manager would buy her a drink. The manager needed to step up and accept responsibility and show that he cared about his customers. I will make sure I share with my friends my experience and leave it up to them to decide whether they would like to go there.I thought the view was nice, the server tried but the manager was extremely disappointing. Clearly he does not value the customer. We drove quite far and will not go back.
Sitting on the deck overlooking the river and enjoying Kingfishers' great food is a favorite for us EXCEPT the wines. They only offer B.C. wines and none of good value or character. (Well, there might be one or 2, but they're not our style and have been on the list so long it's tiring!) Kingfishers, if you are reading this, PLEASE add some import wines (Perhaps from Chile or Argentina, which have such great value and character to offer!!) or at least some better quality B.C. wines.
I find Kingfisher selection of wines is quite poor, however i do appreciate the B.C. concept.
Please choose some better quality so we can enjoy the whole experience as we do enjoy sitting on the deck and enjoy a glass of wine with our food.
The ambiance, the food and the view are great so we look forward to re visiting in the future with an altered wine list.
we went for dinner with our 5 year old daughter and baby and had a quick, tasty dinner. our daughter had the chicken and rice which was a HUGE order for a child and was over priced at $9 but our beef pho was great and only $7.50. i would recommend it for a great spot for pho in maple ridge.
Every time i go to The Witch I am pleasantly surprised. From the moment you step inside, every staff member takes a moment to say 'Hello!' or 'Hi there!' and it really makes you feel at home. The inside feels warm and cozy and I love the pictures on the wall showing Englands landmarks! The ladies and gents who work there always know what all of the specials are and can always recommend something new. Besides that, the food is awesome and there is always a new dish to try every month. When I go on the weekends there are live bands who play classic rock all the way up to recent music! I was surprised to see my server Megan get up on and sing with the band and some of the other servers were dancing away!! I have never seen a more outgoing and friendly staff than this! This is a fun place to be and I will definitely be back soon.
Love shooters for a cold beer with the guys after work. Great staff of people and always quite and easy going crowd of regulars to socalize with. Would recomend to folks looking for a good time with a group of friends or a team. great beer prices everyday of the week and they have bands on the weekend as well, check it out.
