Stopped in with the fellas for some drinks and wings on wednesday night. It appeared the waitress could not be bothered with serving our table, in fact, she did not look up at any one of our faces the entire evening and we had to tap her on the shoulder when she was serving other tables nearby to get any service. Upon receiving a half filled pitcher at the end of the evening, we went to the bartender to complain. Same painful service at the bar, where the bartender took the time to argue that this was the convention of filling up pitchers and that we (licensed bartenders) were mistaken. Seriously, you could not top off our pitcher with 0.30 cents of keg beer? Needless to say, we will not be going back to this pub.
Our first experience at the Lava in Maple Ridge was wonderful. The service was excellent, timely and pleasant. We were made to feel welcome and that we truly were guests. The food was absolutely delicious! Although too full to try dessert, next time we will leave room for it, and there will be a next time.
The presentation of the food was like a picture from a Gourment magazine. It was hot and so fresh you could taste the freshness. For a starter we shared a Breuschetta - we have never tasted anything so delicious previously even though we have had Breuschetta many times in different restaurants. This was fresh, original and the taste of everything blended so well it made you crave for more of the wonderful flavours.
We ordered red house wine to accompany our meal and it was perfect. I had the pork entree and my partner had the lamb shank. We would highly recommend either of these dishes.
The attention we received throughout was just right and not intrusive at all. The manager went from table to table making sure all of their guests were satisfied and enjoying their meals. We will definitely recommend The Lava to our friends.

We have been coming to the Green House since it opened. My husband and I have had breakfasts, lunches and dinners here and have never been disappointed. The food is awesome and the service great. The owner, Mehdi, is a wonderful host, the ambiance with soft Jazz is relaxing. This restaurant is Maple Ridge's best kept secret! Prices are excellent. We have been to every restaurant in Maple Ridge and we keep coming back to the Green House for excellent food at excellent value! WELL DONE Mehdi and Staff!
- faithful customers
We decided to try Lava after being told about the 45 minute wait at The Keg (we were craving a steak dinner). I live in Vancouver and eat out frequently and cannot remember the last time I had such a delicious meal and truly exceptional dining experience. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly waiter/manager who set up a table by the window for us. We were brought and "amuse bouche" of mushroom tart which we happily inhaled. We started with the bruschetta and fish cakes and it was followed by a chorus of "yum, that was delicious!" We each had a steak-my date had the ribeye and I had the tenderloin. Both were cooked to perfection for our preferences. The meals were substantial and full of flavour. We shared the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was the perfect way to end the meal. The bill may well have been the biggest surprise of all. For our appies, meals, dessert, and two drinks each, we paid a little over $100. Most chain restaurants are a similar price, but would pale in comparison. For this city girl, the drive to Maple Ridge is worth the trip!!!
Food - Pad Thai was not that spectacular at all and was WAY to salty. Rice was dry..?
Portions - I could have spent the same at one of the local Mom and Pop Chinese Restaurants and recieved about 30% food (leftovers for tommorow's lunch)
Price to Quality Ratio - LOW. For what we paid we didnt get Value for our money.
Sorry - We wont me coming back :(
Been to all the local sushi place, and this one we keep coming back to. Food is excellent, sushi is fresh, setting is cozy. I recommend their tunna tataki, and my kid think their cali rolls and gyoza are the best ever. I'd give this place 4 stars.
For people who want great Japanese food then this is on the the best options.
We've been to WokBox a couple of times..My family and I have tried the Singapore cashew, Pad Thai, Penang shrimp and Chicken (a bit on the spicy side) and black bean... All very savory tasting and healthy, balance meals (great for children)... Very modern with 2 big screen T.V.s to watch your favorite sporting events, a nice change from the pub atmosphere. Helpful staff along with the owners came by our table numerous times to make sure we were enjoying our visit. Like any new restaurant, a few kinks to iron out...But, overall a great place to spend an evening with your family or a night out with the girls or guys!
I have come here for both a dine in experience and a take out experience. The time that we dined in we were thoroughly pleased. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting and the restaurant is super clean!! We got our food very quickly and all four of us eating together each enjoyed our seperate meals. The manager was sure to ask and make sure that we liked everything which we found to be a very nice touch. Having enjoyed it this first time, we then ordered a large take out order one evening for movie night. Rather than doing the same old chinese food we decided to try something much more healthy and nutritous. The food was so delicious, and the fact that we did not feel gross or greasy after eating it was a greatly added bonus. I particularly like the Thai and Mongolian dishes with chicken and udon noodles - super tasty! We will definitley be coming here in the future when we are looking for a good, quick, and healthy meal to have!
Outstanding. This is clearly where the quick convenient restaurants need to be heading.
My lunch choices on the road have been Timmy's (cardboard), fast food (blech), Subway (crap) and any random joint you run into. All of them cheap, fast, and convenient, but i feel dirty afterwards, and never satisfied.
These guys are doing freshly prepared meals in literally 5 minutes, with none of the typical cheats you see (no scoop and serve premade crap here) in other operations. The flavours are intense, bold, and actually have a depth of flavour and authenticity that impressed me (classically trained chef). The portions are huge, and the selection is decent as well.
I liked being able to negotiate the spice level from mouth on fire to none at all by talking to the servers about which dishes brought the heat, and the knowledge of the staff was far above what I would expect in a quick serve environment.
I'll be getting my takeout from here from now on, at last something I can be proud to bring home to the family.
Good job guys
Have come here several times already, and haven't been disappointed yet.
Some of the other reviews may have been mistaken and clicked on the wrong wok box location, because this place is nothing like what they described. And while the stir fry's and other meals aren't extremely cheap, they're definitely worth it for the quality.
Favorite so far has been the butter chicken naanwich. For only 6 bucks, you get a donair style wrap, but bigger. Its a decent sized meal for anyone.
I read the good reviews on this restaurant in dinehere. So I decided to order a couple of items for take-out. I ordered the sichuan chicken and the penang shrimp and chicken. For their prices it is certainly more expensive than most Chinese restaurant. When I got home and tried the dishes, I was very disappointed. The taste is kinda weird sweetish taste and not all all spicy. There are lots of vegetable filler and very little meat. They should have just call it sichuan vegetable or penang vegetables. Anyway, I'm quite disappointed with this meal. Not sure if this is just a one-off because I read the excellent reviews below. But then again, it makes me wonder it those are phony reviews made by the restaurant owner himself. One nice thing nice about my take out order though, it came in those little Chinese take-out box made of cardboard. Its more environmentally friendly than the styrofoam takeout box in most Chinese restaurants.
I cant believe I've heard people rave about this restaurant. I've never had won ton soup with a murky brown broth before. The Pad Thai was sticky, over cooked noodles and again, the worse I've ever had. The size of the portions were small at best and the price was way too much.
This place is da bomb ! I need my noodles, and this place delivers, and much more ! There is no other place in Maple Ridge that cooks it up like the Wok Box. The only guy who can out noodle me is my son and he loves this place ! The one pet peeve I have with noodle places is not enough noodles ! The Wok Box delivers, you do not leave this place feeling hungry........they won't let you ! It's just too bad that I have to wait to drive home from North Van before I get to enjoy the Wok Box cuisine. We used to go to the bar to watch the Canucks game, now you don't have to, the owners got it right when they installed all those LCD TV's, you feel like you have your own. Ok gotta go, off to the Wok Box, game starts at 7pm. Out.
I went into Wok Box for lunch when they first opened and was suprised by the interior of the place. it looks great! the food was delicious, and the people were very friendly and helpful when it came to ordering. i was a bit flustered about the amount of choices in their restaurant, but the friendly staff helped me pick something, and i loved it! i've been back 3 or 4 times since then and i will be continuing to go back! good job wok box! and welcome to Maple ridge! you should try it!!!
Very excited that the Wok Box is now open! Nice to have a tastier alternative to fast food!
I've only eaten the kung pao chicken so far, but it's very good. It says it's a spicy dish but I don't find much spiciness to it, so anyone can try it. Great service, very attentive staff and fairly quick service.
Definitely try this Wok Box!!
I meant to leave this review long time ago!
We went there for our last Christmas party and were not disappointed.
Their seafood is delicious and portions are huge. The wine was very good and reasonably priced. Everything else was just delicious as well.
The owner personally served us and came back later to make sure everything was ok.
The food is absolutely to die for. What this place lacks is nice renovation. The tables are plain and it doesn't look like a proper restaurant. That's my only complaint.
I would come back again as I couldn't find seafood that good anywhere in the Lower Mainland.
This is one of my favorite sushi places in Maple Ridge. It is a bit expensive for a quick bite, but the quality and freshness of sushi wouldn't disappoint you. It is cozy inside and service is fast.
Rolls are full and moist, not too much rice.
I would definitely come back again. This restaurant is very conveniently located next to Save on Foods so it will make a good place for a quick lunch or take out.
If you want to go to a real restaurant , go to Shinobi but this place ranks no. 1 in my list of take-outs or quick sushi places in Maple Ridge.
Nothing special but good place if you are in hurry. Convenient location with lots of parking. Sushi is a bit on a dry side. Fast service. I wasn't too impressed and probably wouldn't come back again as sushi is average and prices are not cheap. There are plenty of other better places in Maple Ridge that I would rather go to.
I have been to this sushi place many times and it didn't disappoint me ever! Sushi and sashimi are very fresh. Rolls are full and not to much rice.
Last time we went for our company Christmas dinner and ordered Deluxe Sushi and Sashimi party tray.
Everything was excellent. Sashimi was extraordinary fresh and moist.
I will come here again and again.
Ever their service is pretty good (unlike many other Japanese and Asian places). The waitress smiled and was quite polite.
Probably best sushi restaurant in Maple Ridge.
The only complaint I have is their benches, quite uncomfortable, but I guess it's their traditional stuff.
My girl friend and I have eaten many times at the Billy Minor Pub, this was the first time we went there after the new owners took over the pub, We asked for a long island ice tea but they only had premix drinks so we asked for a hand made one like we always do and found they wanted to charge 50% more for this and after receiving our drinks we found no resemblance to what we had ordered, we then ordered ribs and upon receiving them we found there were actually burnt giving a charcoal flavor to the hole rack, it was returned and we received another burnt rack tasting the same, the rest of the meal was very poor quality as they used poor quality caned pork & beans along with improperly cocked corn bread, it was doughy and soggy as well as cold in the middle, for what we paid I feel we should have been at an upper class restaurant,
I'm sorry to say we will never return to the Billy Minor and we only live a ½ block away
