Billy Miner Alehouse22355 River Road, Maple Ridge
Troubled Taphouse
By CastIronCook of Vancouver (11 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, January 16, 2015 - 7:06am [Dine in]

In recent visits to the Billy Miner with friends , we have noticed the food is on a steep decline. The burger patties are par cooked from frozen, the pizza has not been prepared properly leaving a raw doughy center, and toppings were far from fresh. Really a unmistakable miss in the food department. Being met with sticky tables in the pub is bad on all levels, last visit we saw a server wiping tables with a filthy rag. Service is brisk at best where it seems it's a real chore to take customers orders. At risk of becoming a frozen fastfood outlet, the manager(s) should take stake in the mess of a pub it's become.

Quality has dropped for the worse!

At Enjoy Palace the food has been slipping in the quality department. Currently they offer off smelling pork dishes and very unhygenic food service practices. Definately not worth the venture for low quality ingredients and unsanitary conditions. A shame that the owner has lost his standards. There was a time when foods here were fresh.

McDonald's22780 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge
Worst Service & Food!!
By joolesis of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, November 30, 2014 - 2:49am [Take-out]

This is the worst McDonald's in the lower mainland. Every time, and I mean EVERY time I have driven through my meal is cold, old (I.e. has been sitting on a shelf under a heat lamp for an hour), and wrong. Tonight, my fries were cold to the touch as was my filet o fish. COLD to the touch and shriveled up. The shriveled up thing happens almost every time I order one. For this reason, I have taken the initiative and asked for a "fresh filet" to be made to avoid this, but even when I have ten cars ahead of me, I STILL get sent to the waiting lane where I wait another 5-10 minutes for them to bring out my meal and after sitting in the drive through lane for 15 minutes! This location needs a crew manager and some better training because these kids have no idea how to run a "fast" food restaurant. If eating crappy food wasn't a good enough reason for me to avoid McDonald's, I now have another reason to drive BY, at least THIS location.

Bella Vita Restaurant22471 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge
Lost Me and My Family

Submitted Thursday, September 11, 2014 - 1:05pm [Dine in]

We have been coming to Bella Vita for well over 15 years as our go to place for great food and service. Unfortunately that all came to a stop after after our last visit. My wife, daughter and I were meeting my parents (who also have been loyal customers for over 20 years) for a nice dinner out. What we experienced was far below what we are normal accustomed to. The service although adequate was nothing like we had experienced in the past and the food was at best sub par. Of the meals ordered (2 filets, 1 salmon, 1 prime rib, and 1 new york steak with neptune topping) none were cooked as ordered or well. The worst was the new york steak which was order medium rare and came out well done. We actually sent this item back and the second attempt was no better then the first. In addition to not being cooked right the steak was less then 1/2" thick and about 40% fat, not exactly what you'd except. My wife who ordered the salmon (which was way over done) was told that dinners included potatoes and rice. There were no potatoes on any of our plates. When we go out I have no problem sending money to get a quality meal, I do however have a problem when all you get is a meal and service that could of been found at a family restaurant for half the price.

Worth The Drive

Submitted Tuesday, September 9, 2014 - 6:45am [Dine in]

This spot could only be termed a point of destination, as no one would knowingly go there on purpose if they didn't know what awaited them upon arrival. The Black Sheep is probably one of the best pubs in the lower mainland, nestled in the shade of the mountains just about as far as you can go on the road to Golden Ears Park. I've been going here for nearly 35 years. This is the reincarnation of the original pub, having moved from across the street where it was a quaint spot, almost always full & difficult to get in. Today it is a almost a sports bar with a liquor store attached. But one thing has not changed and that is the wings. Monday nights is their .29 special with beverage purchase. No take out. Last night after golfing (a good round!) a buddy and I ordered 15 each, shared a side of fries with gravy & an ice cold Guiness each. It just doesn't get much better. So if you are looking for a good meal, reasonably priced & don't mind a drive, try out The Black Sheep in Maple Ridge.

Too many chances...last time tonight
By LocalDiners of Maple Ridge (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, August 1, 2014 - 10:55pm [Take-out]

We have frequented Hamada a ton over the past several years. However, since the recent expansion we have been disappointed. The food is still fantastic and the staff is very nice. The take out service has been completely unacceptable though. We always phone ahead and are given a time for pick up-but the last 5 times we have had to wait an extra 20 minutes at the restaurant. Tonight we waited over 40 extra minutes! We kept giving them more chances because we liked them but that is ridiculous! Only after voicing a complaint, we were offered a $10 coupon which, albeit nice, was not enough for chance #6! There are so many other Japanese restaurants in town, in order to compete they will need to make some changes.

Four of us went for dinner on the weekend. Nice atmosphere and very nice patio. Nice friendly greeter and seated us promptly. Another thing you'll notice is this place is very clean and tidy which is a bonus.

Ordered the mussels and calamari. Mussels were very good. Calamari was tasteless and rubbery.

For entrees, tasted the following:

Seafood linguine - Very good. Seasoning is right on, seafood nicely cooked, pasta cooked perfectly. Definitely get this again.

House salad - Very good dressing. Some wilted spinach in there and for a house salad, not many variety of veggies.

Pesto chicken quesadilla - Very good. Definitely worth getting again. Everything just work together in this dish.

Halibut - Bad, bad, bad. Save your money on this one. Overcooked (texture of a piece of chicken) and fish tasted like freezer burnt. Oh and needed more seasoning.

If you want a "home" style tasting breakfast, then the Home restaurant is the place for you. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast this sunday morning, with pancakes, bacon & eggs, and French toast. Also they have the best tasting apple pie just like mom used to make. There is lots of staff to provide great service.

This restaurant need a serious revamp. They say you can tell a lot about a restaurant by its washroom. If this is the case I was afraid. What kind of owner let's their livelihood deteriorate so much and think it is ok to charge those prices? Seriously, the sink in the bathroom was falling off the wall and the 1980's wallpaper was missing in patches The 'manager' was super rude and showed no professionalism. We had a long, long wait and had children with us. A smile and a sorry go a long way, but we got that it was our fault for being a large group and a huge attitude. Food was 'meh' and not worth the price even with a coupon. The 'veggies' looked like they were cooked from frozen and my steak was fatty and tasteless. I have been a business owner myself and want to support local and family run businesses. I will never go back and that is a shame.

La Trattoria22214 Dewdney Trunk Rd., Maple Ridge
Good food, reasonable prices
By VJB of abbotsford (171 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, May 12, 2014 - 10:52am [Dine in]

We had a lovely evening at La Trattoria. The restaurant has a very nice welcoming ambiance with music playing softly in the background. There is a fireplace in the room and it just had a very comfortable vibe. The tables are far enough apart so that you can enjoy a nice conversation with your companion and not feel like other tables will be listening to you.
Service was decent. It was not exceptional but it was a busy evening. Our wine was not topped up and we had to pour our own after the initial presentation. Wine prices are very reasonable. We ordered a bottle of Chilean pinot grigio that was $26.00 and it was a decent bottle of wine, presented properly chilled and with an ice bucket.
For dinner we shared an order of mussels as an appetizer. The sauce was delicious but the mussels had a very strong unpleasant taste. We called our waitress over and she said that they had just switched suppliers. She took the mussels off our bill. For entrees my husband had the Cornish game hen. It was very nicely seasoned and he said that it was very good. He said that if he had not had an absolutely amazing game hen last week he would have said it was excellent. However the game hen was also about $10.00 less than he paid last week. I had the lamb chops. They were very tasty and nicely cooked. I substituted capellini pomodoro for the vegetables and it was outstanding. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was made with really fresh tomatoes and basil. It complimented the lamb chops nicely. My husband substituted penne arrabiata for his vegetables and it also was very good. La Trattoria allows you to substitute just a regular pasta with red, white or rose sauce for the vegetables or you can substitute any pasta on their menu for an additional $3.00. It is a reasonable charge. For dessert we shared a mango berry cheesecake. It was very light and very flavourful. It was a decent size serving.
Others have mentioned that they think the pricing is high. Have you checked out the price of some of the meat at the store? I felt the food was very reasonable considering the quality and quantity. I also appreciated the fact that when we mentioned the problem with the mussels it was handled very well and without any attitude.

We would definitely return

The food was horrible, as a matter of fact it went in the garbage. A waste of $40.00. My dog would not even eat it.... The only thing that was of any value was the take out containers, they looked nice! I can't even submit this because my review has to be at least 50 words. What else can a person say that it was disscusting and if we would have eaten any more than 3 bites we would all probably would have gotten sick. The whole idea of ordering in is to relax and not want to cook. There did I say enough.................

Submitted Saturday, April 5, 2014 - 2:50pm [Dine in]

I was there April 3 2014. It is a typical strip club. What amazed me that there was 8 people there from 3-6pm.

This place needs a visit from Bar Rescue. Where I sat, there were at least 15 seats that had ripped fabric on them. This shows me that management doesn't give a shit about the place.

The TV's where lacking clarity, out of focus.

The single woman who was serving all 8 of us patrons, was sloowwwwwww to do anything.

At one point there was no staff (dj, bouncer, server, bartender) in the joint. Out smoking perhaps?

The mens bathroom was appalling. One of the 2 stalls didn't even have a working lock on it. Upon looking at the floor, there was loads of gunk of unknown origin. NASTY!! I think it has never been scubbed clean.

The food was alright. Nothing to write home about. The chef must be lazy because it was so easy to see that he/she uses packaged guacamole, at $2.95 extra for nachos.

I don't think I will be returning.

When the China Kitchen franchise came out over 10 years ago, particularily in Coquitlam it was a good hit and we returned many times and then saw a drastic decline in quality and the food was poorly heated and was not worth the trip only to disappoint. I went to the Maple Ridge location and was instantly disappointed in the dinner buffet and quality. Our Canadian buffets do not compare to the ones in the USA, who have better quality and freshness. Would I visit this restaurant again, not unless I was very hungry and desperate for my craving and would rather travel to Bellingham for shopping and good Asian food than be disappointed here. Our restaurants are lacking in quality and quantity while charging high prices a pattern that has existed for years. The food industry has a long way to go to improve its image as there is no excuse for people to pay $10-$15 a plate or the same for buffets and go home frustrated and disappointed.

We went to this restaurant in March 2014 and were very disappointed with the oily fish batter and overcooked fries that were not pleasing to the palate. We could not even order another helping for the all-you-can eat fish and chips after paying $28.00 for two people. They need better ventilation in the diner as it seems the smell of oil was all over and I had to dab the fish on the napkin because it was too oily. It was too bad our first choice, Joe Blow's was closed because there is no comparisson.

Our server was extremely good. She was always smiling, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The food was pretty good, but so expensive. For one burger, a chicken sandwich, pulled pork poutine, one pop, and 9oz glass of white wine our bill was $65 including tip. Ouch!!! We could go to the Keg for that price. For that reason alone, we will not be returning.

The best humous ever!! I love their chicken rice platter with double humous and no greek salad. Glad they added the sriracha chli sauce instead of the bland tomato "hot sauce" the always have.

The service at any of theses places has never been that great, but the new younger late teens girl that now works there some times of very pleasant and nice.

If I had a choice, I would certainly go to the Poco location as the same order is cheaper and a bit better.

We went to the MR White Spot and got weak service and they mixed up our order, which happens as we are all humans and subject to making mistakes. The overall experience and food was disappointing but maybe others enjoyed it. Nat Bailey started up the business and his standards are sometimes missed as we experienced similar in a Burnaby location years ago.
