Yummy pasta

I really enjoy the pasta here. I have been to both the Maple Ridge and Abbotsford locations. I have to say the ambiance at the Abbotsford location is better, as is the service. I order an option that they accidentally took off the menu - linguine gambretti a limon. It's lemon cream sauce, with prawns, linguine. It's has capers and shallots or onions in it and it's delicious!

I also love the bread they serve before your food comes, it's oven cooked and I love the olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

If you're looking for affordable Italian that has homemade taste, and you're in Maple Ridge and Abbotsford, this place is definitely recommended. Aside from the sometimes slow service, go in with an open mind and just enjoy the food.

We've dined at the Abbotsford Pallitoi's a few times now, and have enjoyed the food and service during each visit, we happened to be in Maple Ridge the other night and came across the original Paliotti's and decided to give it a try. Being a Tuesday evening we had no problems getting in, we were quickly seated, and greeted by our server. We instantly noticed the tired and tacky decor (fake plants and cheezy patterned vinyl tablecloths) the restaurant is dark, and in desperate need of a total makeover! After ordering, we were quickly brought homemade baked bread and balsamic olive oil dipping oil. The Bread was fantastic, light and well seasoned. We shared the Bruschetta appy which was more like a Caprese pizza than Bruschetta, to us Bruschetta is quality, grilled tuscan bread, drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Garlic, Great Roma Tomatoes, Basil and fresh Parmigiano. Palliotti's version was more like thick pizza crust, with a handful of mozza, a few tomatoes and some dried herbs, baked and served. Really not what we expected when ordering bruschetta. My husband ordered the Gnocchi in Tomato Sauce, tossed with Chicken and finished with a giant Meatball. Sauce was rather bland, Gnocchi slightly overcooked and the one meatball was described as having a soapy flavor?! Dish was very average. I was just looking for a quick, simple dish and decided on the Four Cheese Tortellini tossed in a Garlic, Cream Sauce. Sauce was decent, quite garlicky, great for the garlic lover, the dish was served piping hot, pasta was odd in that some tortellinis were overcooked and some were perfectly al dente...not really sure how one accomplishes this, but I'd say half the dish was cooked really well. The pizza parlor shaker Parmesan this restaurant offers is an insult to Italian food, I can't imagine any great Italian restaurant not offering freshly grated Parmigiano to garnish their pasta dishes!! We will say the service at Pallioti's was excellent, our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. Don't think we'll be back to this location however!

Best pasta I've had in ages!

We tried Paliotti's for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and the portions were generous enough to have another meal leftover for the next day. The menu was extensive, with lots of vegetarian options (for me) and a variety of different meat and seafood options for everyone else. Our server was friendly and efficient, and knew the menu very well. The only letdown was the awful italian elevator music, and the lack of air conditioning. We'll definitely be back!

An all-around great place for lunch or dinner

The food is great! The deep-fried mozza appy with seafood sauce is incredible. The steaks and pastas are great. Veal is great. Yes, it is busy and bustling. But that is only because people are lining up to get in.

Service can take a while but is always courteous and helpful. Portions are huge and staff does not leave you feeling bad if you split a meal.

Paliottis seems to know who they are and what they provide. And they provide it consistently.

Ambiance? Well... what can you say? It is a family-owned Italian steak, seafood, and pasta place. Its lively and the decor is a little dated. So what. You get what it is. So best to set your expectations accordingly. Owner has come out a number of times and chatted with patrons. Nice guy.

I'll keep going back.

Next Candidate for Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares

Was given a gift certificate for this restaurant and after reading the reviews posted here I was hesitant. We figure it was an opportunity to get away from the baby and have a meal that wasn't going to cost us an arm and a leg.

The restaurant was packed when we arrived at 7:30 but we were seated promptly by a pleasant hostess. From the time we sat down things went downhill.

We ordered our drinks and waited about 10 minutes for them to arrive (oh well). We ordered the Italian salad starter that was just a mess in a bowl. Over powered with balsamic vinegar with mushy lettuce, skimpy serving of cheese, and artichoke hearts that dated back to 1973.

I ordered tortellini with tomato sauce and meatballs. On a suggestion by a friend to keep it simple. Approximately 40 minutes later the server came to me and said they were out of meatballs and suggested Italian sausage would be a good replacement. I went with the suggestion.

The food arrived approximately 50 minutes after we ordered and 30 minutes after we finished our salad. The pasta was underwhelming and found the sauce very watery with poor flavor. The Italian sausage that was suggested was cut into small pieces and burnt on the outside.

We skipped dessert and instead decided to have a couple more drinks.

Service - The servers seemed to be trying hard but were constantly apologizing to our table and the tables around us for slowness and not having menu items available. All the staff seemed nice enough, with clean well groomed appearance.

Value - The portions were reasonable but I would have been quite disappointed if I had to pay full price for what I received. The drinks were fine and not stingy which I appreciate but for the food and experience I just don't find much value here.

The ambiance is serious '70s in my opinion, to me the whole place looked run down and in serious need of an update from top to bottom. The menus were way to big and virtually every item either had the price crossed out or a sticker over top of the previous price (time to print some new menus)

Nearing the end of our experience a customer got into an argument regarding how long they had to wait with the main waitress. They argued back and forth for a good 5 minutes standing right by our table with the waitress in essence telling the customer he was wrong. I found that this argument pretty much mirrored our experience.

I would not recommend this restaurant until they give themselves an overhaul front to back top to bottom. When exiting and returning to our car i looked in the back kitchen and this together with my general experience solidified that we will never return.

Gordon Ramsey - This place needs you bad!

i am a fan of heritage buildings, but like an old hockey player that should retire, buildings like this one should be put to rest, torn down, turned into condos, etc.

it is dark, dirty and broken up; the food is ok, but really, there are so many better places to get a very average meal.

the food is cheap, and you won't get an argument from me that you probably do get what you pay for; but personally, i would rather pay a little extra and get something i am not going to regret eating the next day.

if you have an exceptionally ugly date, you might want to try this restaurant, you probably won't be able to see her and she will think you are cheap and may not want to go out with you again.

but seriously, the food is not bad, but very far from good.

We were recommended this restaurant by the realtor who sold us our new home in Maple Ridge. We probably would not have stopped in based on looks alone but were assured that the food and service were excellent, and we were not disappointed. The pasta is freshly made, the food is genuine Italian. Ricardo was our server and Nick was in the kitchen just as our realtor had promised. What Paliotti's lacks in decor it makes up for in quality and service.

I have been to the Abbotsford location twice with my family. Both times that I have been there it was a wonderful experience. The food is wonderful and very good. You get very good portion of food for the price you pay and it is very well worth it. They have a good selection and variety of different types and style of food. Their drink menu is a good variety as well. I love going to the resturant and the one in Abbotsford is a very nice atmosphere and a very nicely designed resturant. I would totally recommend it to all of my friends and family and will continue to go there whenever I can.

We went here for our office Christmas party last year. We had a reservation that had been confirmed earlier in the day but still had to stand out in the cold and wait for a crowded and overbooked restaurant to clear a bit. The food was ok (we had a fixed menu for parties), the servers seemed too busy to give great service and the ambiance felt a little claustrophobic, dated and dark. This was my first time coming here and I don't think I will return, in fact our office dinner is booked elsewhere this year.

We went there for a lunch on Father’s Day. The restaurant was busy, but they seated us right away even though we didn’t have a reservation. The waitress was nice and friendly. Our drinks and water arrived within a minute. Those are all good things that I can say.

Their food was bad. We ordered chicken wings and pizza, Palliotti’s special. Dry, tiny chicken wings arrived in 30 min, pizza came within an hour. Pizza was hot, nothing else to say.
If that is the Italian style what is the ‘Superstore’s frozen food section’ style then? I had this feeling that our Palliotti’s special pizza came right from that section. They gave us only pepper flakes shaker, no grated Parmesan shaker. We ate half and didn’t even take leftovers.

I have been to Paliotti's a few times, and will definitely be back. The food and service were great. We are always seated quickly, and served quickly as well. The outdoor dining area, however, is not good. It overlooks the parking lot, and Dewdney trunk, so it's pretty loud.
Definitely sit inside.

They could be a little better with the service .. however I understand everything is made from fresh ingredients at the time it's ordered . so it really is tasy and you come away wanting to return again

lamb lovers disappointment
By tastebud007 of Maple Ridge (1 Review)
Submitted Monday, June 8, 2009 - 10:50pm [Dine in]

well here it is....
we have lived in Maple Ridge for many years... the old Paliottis on Lougheed Hwy was the one we frequented. As it is no longer there we started going to the older, out dated one on Dewdney Trunk.
The prices are really reasonable, the food is not too bad... although we only go there for the rack of lamb...we have favorite resteraunts outside of our community however we go here to stay in town.
The last few times we have been we have been so disappointed. Being a Sat. night we made reservations. We were seated about 5 min after we arrived; placed our orders for Rack of Lamb. Ordered our drinks... the appies came about 1/2 hour later... after waiting for a little over an hour the waitress comes back to inform us they didn't have any lamb. I said we have been here 60 minutes and it took you that long to figure this out??? I suggested they have a sign saying out of lamb... or the waitress's be better informed as to the lack of items on the evenings menu! She tried to force pasta dishes on us...this is not what we come here for. Our regular waitress was in a different section...she came over and appologized as she knows we come in only for the rack of lamb.
I asked for our bill and was about to walk out...then I thought I woukld go back and see who the cook was on this evening he would not come out instead he told the waitress to waiver our entire bill.
We did come back after this ordeal...thinking it may have been a one off... we asked as we were seated; before ordering anything, if they had the rack of lamb... the waitress went back to ask... same waitress as last time...she took so long I knew this could not be a good thing... when she finally came back she said they only had one rack of lamb. I am glad we did not order anything...as we got up and left. I do not think I will be going back unless I phone a week ahead and get them to place lamb on their meat order.
On a positive note I have heard many people from our community say that the Palliottis in Langley or Abbotsford is well worth the drive.
Maple Ridge definately needs to step up its game when it comes to nicer dining establishments!!!

Mediocre at Best

Submitted Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

As a long time resident of Maple Ridge and a person that enjoys more than the average retaurant meal, I have to say that this restaurant keeps disapointing me, BUT I keep going back. I don't know why. I guess I am hoping that the speed of service will get better, but it continues to dissapoint.

We find the food is average, not outstanding and it is fairly good place to go when you have about 90 minutes for lunch and approximately 2 hours for dinner. Your mileage may vary, but I would estimate that 50% of the normal wait time is just for the meal to arrive. YES, 45 minutes for a single dish at lunch time, (with very few customers in the restaurant) is very normal. Dinner is worse.

If you are on a schedule, stay away. If your party has a few free hours, try it. Your luck may be better than ours has been over the last 5 years.

I really wanted to like this restaurant but...

I know that Palliotti's has been in this location for many years and enjoys a loyal clientel and I really had hoped for a good experience at this restaurant. It was disappointing.

Ok, so it is an old building and old style Italian eatery, nothing wrong with that. There are lots of these around and if they get the food and service right it can be great and the service was fine. Took drink orders right away, checked back often etc. The problem quite plainly is with the food. My husband is Italian and this is not real Italian. Both my husband and I were very disappointed in the quality of the meals. They give you a large serving but if it is not tasty who wants that? I ordered spagetti and meatballs (basic); the pasta was not properly cooked and the meatballs hard and tasteless. The meat sauce even had a strange flavor - bacon?

Maybe this is a good place to take the teens to full them up but for a nice dinner out for two, no way. Sorry. Like I said, with limited choices in the Suburbs I really wanted to like this place. We won't be back anytime soon.

I was so disappointed with my experience It will be my last I am certain. Where to start? The Ambiance, can you say left behind in some 1970's regurgitation of a cheap rec-room or basement bar gone wrong. For crying out loud update. The Food: I love Italian food and this was not Italian Food. It was inexpensive, lacking fresh ingredients and presentation that would make it authentic Italian. Please do not call that Parmesan Cheese. it was powder like in its appearance and resembled that crappy store bought shaker cheese. Real Parmesan is from a wheel imported from Parma Italy. It is all that should be used here. This is only one item which lacks authenticity. The Pasta I had was not fresh pasta it was macaroni type pasta (hard) no fresh pasta choices. The Sauce was way too salty and also lacking any fresh ingredients. Alfredo should be made with real Italian cheese butter, heavy cream or egg yolks, fresh garlic, fresh ground pepper and a hint of nutmeg. Everything was way too generic tasted like I could get it at Boston Pizza or Pizza Hut or even from the local pizza guy. If you are going to hold the name of Ristorante Italiano for the love of Italian food please offer Italian Food, Products from Italy, Recipees from Italy or some accomplished Italian Chef (Cook) or Mom. The passion and presentation the Italians are known for would be welcome to be seen anywhere on the premises.
I have no hope of seeing change here the Restaurant is always busy and the food is inexpensive (Cheap). I am glad you have a clientelle that is not picky regarding the food they put in their mouths, but it is a slap in the face to all Italians, Italian food lovers and Restauranteurs who provide authentic Italian food.
I have enjoyed Itallian food all of my life and Paliotti's is no source for Italian Cusine ... not even close on a good day. Menu is way too busy (too may choices)and lacks Authenticity.
Sorry but it had to be said.
