La Trattoria's serves authentic Italian dishes which are complimented by an extensive wine list and beautifully decorated surroundings.
We had a lovely evening at La Trattoria. The restaurant has a very nice welcoming ambiance with music playing softly in the background. There is a fireplace in the room and it just had a very comfortable vibe. The tables are far enough apart so that you can enjoy a nice conversation with your companion and not feel like other tables will be listening to you.
Service was decent. It was not exceptional but it was a busy evening. Our wine was not topped up and we had to pour our own after the initial presentation. Wine prices are very reasonable. We ordered a bottle of Chilean pinot grigio that was $26.00 and it was a decent bottle of wine, presented properly chilled and with an ice bucket.
For dinner we shared an order of mussels as an appetizer. The sauce was delicious but the mussels had a very strong unpleasant taste. We called our waitress over and she said that they had just switched suppliers. She took the mussels off our bill. For entrees my husband had the Cornish game hen. It was very nicely seasoned and he said that it was very good. He said that if he had not had an absolutely amazing game hen last week he would have said it was excellent. However the game hen was also about $10.00 less than he paid last week. I had the lamb chops. They were very tasty and nicely cooked. I substituted capellini pomodoro for the vegetables and it was outstanding. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was made with really fresh tomatoes and basil. It complimented the lamb chops nicely. My husband substituted penne arrabiata for his vegetables and it also was very good. La Trattoria allows you to substitute just a regular pasta with red, white or rose sauce for the vegetables or you can substitute any pasta on their menu for an additional $3.00. It is a reasonable charge. For dessert we shared a mango berry cheesecake. It was very light and very flavourful. It was a decent size serving.
Others have mentioned that they think the pricing is high. Have you checked out the price of some of the meat at the store? I felt the food was very reasonable considering the quality and quantity. I also appreciated the fact that when we mentioned the problem with the mussels it was handled very well and without any attitude.
We would definitely return
We tried La Trattoria for the second time tonight after being so impressed with our first visit, service was again excellent, the food was not nearly as good as it was during our first experience. Bruschetta appy was decent, again needed seasoning. My fiance ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, was okay, not spectacular, but alright. I ordered the Farfalle Primivera, as we'd so enjoyed it during our last visit.....The dish was very mediocre. Sauce was nothing like it was the first time we tried this restaurant, was runny and lacking flavor. I asked to have the pasta cooked extra al dente, it arrived so overcooked it was mushy, I can't stand overcooked pasta....completley ruined the dish. Again, we have no idea why a traditional Italian Restaurant like La Trattoria would serve "Kraft" Style Parmesean cheese.....cheap and unimpressive. Not so sure we'll make the drive out to Maple Ridge again for this average Italian experience.
Went to this restaurant last week. Got there and had to wait for the waitress to clean and set up a table for us eventhough there are empty tables. Not sure why the need to sit us there but i don't care cause i'm there for food.
The restaurant is very nice and cozy. It's not too big, lots of wine on display and nice ambiance all around. Very fine dining indeed.
The menu is pretty big, with lots of choices from meat, seafood, pasta, to platters. We opted for calamari and the stuffed pasta platter.
The calamari was delicious but very small portion. It is the reason why the food rating in this review is a 2 instead of a 1 actually.
The platter came in a big oval plastic plate thingy. Very dollar store feel. No matter, cause i'm there for food. There were 4 different types of pasta and sauces all together. Let's just say that there was only one good sauce in there. Everything else was not good. Pasta that's dry and tasteless even with stuffing inside. Sauces that don't go with the pasta pairing. Oh and the whole thing wasn't even that hot.
Overall very disappointing for pasta. But i would go back to try their other meat entres before i put this restaurant in the do not go list.
The ambiance is romantic, just like Italy itself.
There were 5 tables full of guests and only one waiter. He tried his best, and was very attentive. 5 stars for him.
The food was excellent, i had the Portobello mushroom to start. And then then Pasta with Porchini Mushroom, and Veal with apple slices. Hmmm...great pairing with the Chianti Red wine.
After we had their Tiramisu, it was amazing, not very sweet just the way i like it and explosion of espresso tastes.
I highly recommend this place for couples looking for a romantic place for dinner and not wanting to drive all the way out to downtown.
Only a precious few can do lamb well for some unknown reason however these guys have it done superbly! They have a young skinny blond guy who remembers everything and seems to recall from previous visits as well. The pasta combo thing they have is also quite remarkable. 5 stars for this place!!!
I came here for lunch one afternoon for a business meeting we started with the antipasto platter ro share between all of us it was nice that the adjusted it to fit all the people at the table. The food was of good quality nothing that wowed me but it was good eats. I had a clam linguini with a spicy tomato sauce noodles were over cooked but again it seems to be a trend in Maple Ridge to get noodles that are over cooked. The Restaurant it's self is old but has been maintained. Server was attentive and nice let us have our space. I haven't been back since the meeting so it didn't leave a great impression on me but as a whole it was a good meal and I wouldn't mind trying it again
We just moved to the area and are looking for favorite restaurants. This one will be on our list. Great ambiance, great value (we had pasta dinner, no appies, 1/2 litre of wine, and dessert for $53), very friendly helpful service, we will definately return and bring friends. We had the Farfalle Primavera and the pasta special with Italian Sausage, asked for extra garlic and were very pleased. We lingered late, were the last table there and the staff was not rushing us out the door.
Maple Ridge is not known for it's restaurants - so I was so happy when LaTrattoria came to town. While I don't often bother writing a review, having just read some of the ones posted I felt the need to.
We go to this restaurant at least once a month and have for years. The ambiance is warm and cozy and the food has always been great. Our regular server "Mike" is always attentive and we enjoy his service as much as we do the food and ambiance.
I don't understand why some people have complained - perhaps they are just that type and don't have much good to say about anything or anyone. Or they went once and it was a bad night - which happens to everyone.
I urge you to try it for yourself - my favourite is the LaTrattoria Spaghetti and the sea food pasta dish. It is very hot and spicey so not for the faint of heart!
La Trattoria is one of the few fine dinning places that is available in the Ridge and has been an enjoyable place since it opened. We went there recently for our anniversary and were looking forward to good food served in a nice quiet spot. Food was good, but the waiter with the spray bottle was over the top. It didn't seem to matter that he was spraying clouds of noxious cleaner throughout the restaurant or that the sound of his spray bottle resembled the fart scene in the movie Blazzing Sadlles. The few tables left dining in the restaurant gave looks and stares of annoyance as we did, but to no avail. The behaviour of serving staff is an obvious message to patrons, get the hell out I want to go home. I like this place and will return. If the waiter pulls out that spray bottle I will ask him to holster that puppy so us rednecks can enjoy our chow.
spaghetti tratoria... dry, lacked sauce, no taste other than hot (cayenne) no herbs, seasoning, garlic etc "black beans" in spaghetti? awful
Fettucini golosa - tastless, no mushrooms, ham slimy, bland, tasted like it came out of a can.
will never go here again for food. Very dissapointing!!!!
I cannot explain how extatic i was with this restaurant. Upon reading the reviews we figured it was time to try after reading the, "wheres the tip" review, being so bad in there ONE time experience. I have been to so many restaurants around the world and i have to say pardon my word but @#%! happens, in every restaurant. The one you may think is the best may be because you did not catch them on a bad day, try going to that same restaurant over and over again your view could change. I just want to say this place is a wonderful place to relax, eat, drink, and talk. You should also not try it just once if your FIRST experience was not the best.
Food - My appetizer was good GRILLED prawns they were GRILLED like the menu stated. The server
asked if i wanted somthing else if i did not like the way they make there food, i said no its just what i ordered i thought i was a good thing they offered to fix the problem if there was one.
Service - "Up where" the tim hortons drive though with young untrained employee's i said one sugar and three cream. Any way yes they were busy most likely under staffed but they handled it so well just watching them work fast, but getting things done and saying things like pardon my reach was good to here instead of reaching unwarned. The service was authentic? what is authentic serving look it up or dine with the queen of england to see the top service. Me and my guests were glad the server wasent a show of and took his job cerious by coming back to clear the rest of the table instead of taking it all at once and dropping it. We felt so STRONG about the service stong meaning plus, good and tipping because if your food is burnt the server dident cook it the chef did. And if i was rude and dident give the benifit of the doubt by not tipping i wouldent show our faces again either....
Value - The bill for 4 people was $72.84 for 4 appetizers and 4 main courses the drinks were extra of course but thats every where you go and i dident feel that they owed me money because i got my food and drinks and i dident have to go to the kitchen to get my own food or go to the bar to mix my own drinks.
Ambiance - WE enjoyed the restaurant, just the right mood. The washrooms were not in the best order but having later reservations and the restaurant being full that night i understood the sercomstances. Cant have one person in the washroom all night making sure there isent any one throwing paper town on the floor.
Overall great place to try more than once.
I cannot explain how disappointed I was with this restaurant. Upon reading reviews we figured it was time to try after passing by so frequently. 4 of us made arrangements for a baby sitter and set reservations for 8:00pm. When we arrived the restaurant was full and our table wasn’t ready we were greeted by a friendly bus person that helped to get our table ready “Kind of”.
We were seated and offered menus and that was it. It took close to 20 minutes from sitting down and only after making eye contact and waving over the server to come and offer us water. We all decided on what to order for appetizer and waited another 15 minutes after again calling over the server to order drinks. We finally got napkins after asking when our appetizers arrived.
After close to 1hour at the restaurant no bread and still no appetizer. It became a joke to our table as the server would fly by without making eye contact and depart on the other side of the restaurant. Finally we asked the bus person if we had offended anyone? She said no and that she would tell our server, I guess she did cause he eventually showed.
Food – My appetizer was burnt but I was starving so ate the prawns anyhow and didn’t complain. The kitchen should catch black prawns on a plate but because I ate them I didn’t complain. The flavour of my meal was decent but the smoked chicken and artichoke that was supposed to be a part of it was nonexistent. When the server came for a quality check I told him as much and said that it was just “ok”. He asked if I wanted something else but figured I would cut my losses and maybe just have another drink and some more bread. The others in my party were fairly happy with their meals.
Service – “Up there” as the worst service I have ever had at any establishment. They were busy yes, but late on a Saturday night should be their bread and butter. Once we complained the service became curt and really not very authentic. The waiter continually used “pardon my reach” as he stood in one place and served, offered drinks, and cleared the table reaching right across us to the other side. He also cleared half the table then came back about 5 minutes later and cleared the other side. We felt so strong about the service that we left NO TIP. I dare to say that we should probably not show our faces there to eat again....
Value – The bill for 4 people with drinks was 164.00. I do not find this outrageous but the food was certainly nothing above average and the service left me feeling like they owed me money for wasting most of my night.
Ambiance - I quite enjoyed the restaurant. I consider it quaint and fairly comfortable with decent decorations and murals. The lighting was just right and our table had no problem conversing amongst ourselves. The washrooms were not in good order and fairly cramped with no soap and hand towels littering the floor. But it was relatively clean.
Overall a very disappointing experience for two couples that planned for baby sitters, and made arrangements to get out without the kids. We have now visited both the Italian restaurants that I know about in Maple Ridge and will not be returning to either. I dare to say that I will also not recommend and discourage people from visiting either. I have spoke to others who enjoy this restaurant but from my experience I just cannot understand why.
We came here about a year ago, and I was really surprised by a really pleasant atmosphere and excellent service. The food was very good as well, though I don't particularly like pasta.
I would definetely come again for the service and ambiance! Very romantic place as well.
We love this restaurant, for the area, given that Maple Ridge doesn't have the greatest selection or quality of restaurants. We have always found the service to be okay, but they are often under staffed. Ambiance is quite nice and cozy.
The pasta is great. The real hit though is the mediteranean appy platter for two that comes with a selection of yummies including calamari, antipasto, italian sausage, broushetta (sp?), and more. Generous portion that could easily fill up two light eaters!
we've been here for dinner several times. each time the food has been very good. the service has been painful at times, and even rude (we haven't been back for some time). having 4 out 5 people severed with the 5th persons soup missing in action for over 20 minutes and serveral requests; coming out with 2 out of 4 desserts and then announcing that they are all out of the other 2 but not offering to get something else. the chef is great, but we say to the service staff "Your Fired!"
We came here because we were in the mood for pasta.
The ambience is lovely.
The food was delicious, and really rich. We shared an appetizer and both ordered pasta. I had leftoevers, he finished his plate. The food was really good.
An extensive wine list.
The service was really good until we finished eating our main course.
Then we were ignored! I would have like to have been offered dessert or more wine. But they didn't come within several feet of our table.
Eventually, without a word, the server dropped off the bill (we didn't ask for it!) - and only came back again to pick it up.
Were we being shooed out????
We picked up the dessert menu to look at on our way at the door - would have like to have tried the chocolate mousse or tiramusa. Too bad they didn't offer it to us!
We have eaten here many times over the years, everything is good, some things are great. the menu hasn't changed much over the years and is getting a little boring. we have never had a bad meal at trattoria.
it is a little dark inside the restaurant for my liking, it would be nice if it were a little more upbeat. the tables are a bit close together in some areas.
all in all, i enjoy eating at trattoria, there are better places in maple ridge, but it is definately in the top five.
We visited 'La Trattoria' Saturday evening (16th Feb) with a party of 12 for my wife's birthday. Only 2 people in our party had been before and their comments prior to the visit were positive. We were not disappointed. The service from start to finish was excellent, professional, cheerful and smart ! (I was a bit concerned based on previous reviews)
The food was fab. All appertizers and main courses served to all our party at the same time. Food was very nicely cooked & presented whilst everybody enjoyed the extensive wine list. Could have stayed later, but at around 11pm we felt we needed to go (staff were locking up..!)
Don't sit near the door either, you get a cool wind when people come and go. It did'nt damper the evening though. Nice one 'La Trattoria' will definately go again. More of this in Maple Ridge would be great..!
PS. The 2 person platter is good value at around $15 per head.
