GM Restaurant offers great Indian food. The food isn't overly spicy (it caters to westerners) and as someone who can handle a lot of spice, I am sure I could handle "hot". Last time I ordered "medium" and it was good but, definitely not a mouth-burner. As for price, it is not cheap however, not expensive. My boyfriend and I can go on a Friday night and order a few beers with dinner and get out of there for $60 which is cheaper than dinner for us anywhere else (the only time we get out of a restaurant for $37 is for breakfast). The service has always been good. As for decor, it is not the worst but, not very good either. However, anyone who goes to an Indian resaurant expecting great decor is as crazy as someone going to a Japanese restaurant and expecting great service (especially outside of the city). The restaurant is family run and the atmosphere is always warm and inviting. The food and atmosphere at GM is better than any of the Indian restaurants in Abbotsford. My boyfriend and I eat out FAR too much and often at fairly expensive restaurants such as The Cannery and Bluewater Cafe and we still both LOVE GM restaurant!!!
I consider myself a somewhat restaurateur and have extensive knowledge in the restaurant business. So i decided to try out a Maple Ridge restaurant that i had a review from my friend who raved about the place. The parking lot was stupid to get to and a pain to drive in and out of but that's not a huge issue. The Restaurant decor was sub-par although they did have some nice features like a waterfall mirror on the bar and a fountain in the main room. But the rest of the decor and poor quility furniture took away from it. My server was excellent, funny, and curteous. The food was fairly quick and quite tasty (had Butter Chicken and Naan bread). One of my main complaints was the price though. A 37 dollar bill for two peopel to have rice, bread, and butter chicken. Seems a bit outrageous. Thank goodness someone else was taking care of the tip. All in all i would avoid going to the restaurant itself and getting some takeout instead, but be warned that you'll pay a heavy fee for this indian food.
I've tried several Indian restaurants over the years around the Lower Mainland & GM is consistently one of the best. They are just as good if not better than many of the higher priced, more "stylish" Indian restaurants in Vancouver. It's a family run business & the people are friendly & food is excellent.
