Fox's Reach Pub and Grill is a friendly, lively place to enjoy food and live entertainment or sports. With a full service restaurant Fox's reach is also a great place to bring the whole family.
Being in Maple Ridge at lunch time on a Thursday, the Other Half and I stopped by for a snack.
Not many people there, which was odd. The pub is located in a busy mall-ish area, lots of traffic.
We settled at a visible table, nothing in the corner or a dark area. Eventually, I got up to retrieve menus myself. After a bit longer, a sullen server was dispatched to ask about drinks. The OH and I both ordered pints, then sat back to wait. And wait. Eventually, the server reappeared and we ordered yam fries and calamari. "That's IT?", she asked with a suprised tone. Yep, that's it, sunshine.
Food took quite a while to get to us. The yam fries weren't very hot. Calamari was good, but an extremely skimpy portion for $10. No return server-visit to check on drinks or food. After waiting a while after we finished, we finally stood up to put on our coats and that's when she reappeared, wanting to know if we wanted another drink! No, just the bill please. Suddenly, she was in high gear, zipped to the bar, retrieved the bill and got it back on the table before we were completely into our coats!
Not one instance of a smile or or one single effort at eye contact. Apparently she wasn't having a good day and didn't care who knew it.
Seems like a nice enough pub, but with the slow and unfriendly service, coupled with the lack of value, we won't be going back.
My friends and I stopped by for a bite to eat after catching a matinee. It was a beautiful say and we sat on the back patio because it was just too nice to stay inside. I liked that the deck was glass-covered and had a separate, enclosed smoking area. There were tons of fireplaces, so the space can be used all year round.
The whole establishment is clean and tidy, right down to the staff, who are very friendly, albeit a tad inattentive and forgetful at times. Everyone was polite and nicely dressed, which elevates the restaurant to a high-end pub feel. Bathrooms are extremely clean and even have a small lounge area.
The food was definitely more upscale than you standard pub grub, but the prices were very reasonable. $36 for a bottle of Seven Deadly Zins is a very good price. We shared some blue cheese flatbread (yum!), pulled pork sliders on soft heavy buns (amazing!), burgers, salads, etc. I had the Greek salad for an entree and found it fresh, delicious, and well-portioned.
We'll be back.
This is my 6 year old's favourite place to eat!! We love it too. We go a lot, usually 2 or 3 times a month. I always get the same thing, thai chicken bites with a caeser salad. I have had a few of the other dishes in the past. My husband has tried a few different burgers, and the fish and chips...We often have family lunches here with grandparents, brothers, aunts uncles...No one has ever had any complaints. The staff is always friendly and quick, we've never had to wait long to place orders, and the food comes fairly quickly. I love that they have a family friendly side to the pub (wish the black sheep did too) though it is a little small. i believe you can make reservations if you are coming with a larger group. For kids they have colouring pages and crayons and a kids menu. We will definitely be coming back, and will always recommend to friends.
Stopped in with the fellas for some drinks and wings on wednesday night. It appeared the waitress could not be bothered with serving our table, in fact, she did not look up at any one of our faces the entire evening and we had to tap her on the shoulder when she was serving other tables nearby to get any service. Upon receiving a half filled pitcher at the end of the evening, we went to the bartender to complain. Same painful service at the bar, where the bartender took the time to argue that this was the convention of filling up pitchers and that we (licensed bartenders) were mistaken. Seriously, you could not top off our pitcher with 0.30 cents of keg beer? Needless to say, we will not be going back to this pub.
went there twice in one week-once on a Monday and then again on a Saturday. Reno's are great, good atmosphere and clean. Good Monday night drink specials. the food however I find is not that great. the fries are deff frozen and not even dressed up to look like anything better. the worst clubhouse I have ever had,and the boneless chicken wings on special on Monday are chicken strips...Saturday tried the maple glazed salmon appy-not what I expected and not very easy to assemble. Lunch partner said the burger was ok,fries were awful. dont expect the food to match the atmosphere.
This place rocks if you have little ones but miss going to the pub. They have a restaurant side that is divided with the bar. There is a fully ventilated smoking room and the smell stays in it. OUt side deck is nice on a sunny day. Food is okay ... pretty good for pub food. I always enjoy it.
I was frequent goer to Foxs, used to be a great local pub. Servers were great & the best nachos in my books.. PAST TENSE now. New owner in and has changed staff as well as food quality. The nachos I used to love are crap in fact very salty!! Owner refused to acknowledge my complaint & didn't even bother to come up or offer to make them again. Sucks, we need a new pub in the area!!
We went to Foxes Reach for our weekly visit and often had mixed reviews, but we liked it because it had a restaurant on one side that allowed our boys. Recently we went there and my son thought he would try the shrimp fettuccini and when it came he said it was too saucy, we told him to just eat it and take the good parts of the pasta. After his next complain we examined it closer and found the pasta was a clump of dough and the there was olive oil/butter all over the bottom, something you find when you micro wave Fettuccini. When the waitress came by, we brought this pasta to her attention; she said she would talk to the manager. When she return she said because he ate the garlic bread and shrimp all he would give us was 20% off the dish, so it worked out to be $10.40 for 5 shrimp and garlic toast. I did not expect a free meal, but only 20%, you might as well have told me to F-off. Well loud obnoxious guy who walks around like he owned the place, turns out he does…. You have lost a frequent flyer to your restaurant over a bad dish and decision. Advice, keep your hands and eyes off the girls who work for you and put them on the Pub you are fortunate to own.
As a Maple Ridge resident, I've visited Fox's numerous times over the years, both the restaurant side when accompanied by kids, and the pub side.
The pub has been recently renovated and the layout and decor are nice. It's bright and airy and the large fake tree in the former smoking area has been removed, which opens it up even more.
Now the not so good. I have always found the service to be very hit and miss. It's either excellent or verging on non-existent. My last visit was the latter. Likewise the food. I've never thought their menu was exceptional but could usually find something that appealed. There have been quite a few changes to the menu, with some long-standing items no longer available, and quite a few new 'trendy' items added in their place, not necessarily an improvement.
My last visit was a few weeks ago, on a Friday, arriving just a few minutes past noon. There were 2 of us, and we found the pub almost empty, with only 3 or 4 tables with other patrons. Our server was relatively prompt at taking our drink orders. We ordered lunch at approxmately 12;20; one order of 'halibut and chips' (more on that to follow), and one burger. We waited, and waited, and waited some more... finally nearly 1 PM I managed to flag down our server (who had ignored us since we put in our food order) and asked why it was taking so long for our food to arrive. the response 'the computer is down and the orders weren't getting to the kitchen'. WHAAT?? Here's a suggestion - write it down and hand it to them. I was quite incredulous that this was actually offered up as a valid reason. We were assured that our food would be arriving shortly, and then were given 2 appetizer vouchers for the inconvenience (only to be used at a later date), but no offer to reduce our lunch bill due to the ridiculously long wait. Our food arrived at about 1;15. It should be pointed out that there were still a lot of empty tables, few diners, and nothing like one would expect to see at a pub on a Friday lunchtime.
Now to the food. The burger was typical, and what one would expect at a pub. I suspect the patties are frozen, not freshly made in-house - it had that 'formed' look to it. The halibut and chips were probably the worst I have ever had. When one expects fresh halibut (it was in season) and homemade fries, it was a huge disappointment to get tiny, thin rectangular pieces of battered fish. Halibut? who knows. I hope so, since that's what it said on the menu. Whatever it was, I actually think it came out of a Captain Highliner box. It had no resemblance at all to fresh halibut with a homemade batter. The fries were nothing to write home about, thin shoestring style. They seemed made from frozen too. It was a complete waste of money.
I will go back to Fox's to use up the 2 appetizer vouchers, but after years of having very inconsistent food and service, it will probably be my last time.
Sunday brunch is amazing. We go quite often since we discovered it and it has always been delicious, fresh food. The selection for the brunch is exceptional, from delicious peel and eat shrimp to the custom made omeltte bar. Service is excellent, have never been let down! Since it's a "sports bar", sometimes the tv's are turned up quite loud with different football/hockey etc. games. I recommend this to all my friends.
I have been to the Fox's Reach many times. Their service has always been... great, the food... great, the atomsphere, well...great! I went in most recently for the Saints Fundraiser and WOW!!!! They have renovated. Every where you look is something new. Lovin the New Patio and comfy seats! Same great service, same great food, amazing new look! The Sweet Spot in Maple Ridge!
I have been to this restaurant many times now and have always enjoyed the way they've served us . the food value and have never come away feeling like I wasted my money .. I would recommend it to anyone. it is a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are friendly/courteous and attentive
