Billy Miner is a lively and friendly pub that serves up all the traditional pub favorites.
Best burger i have ever had in my life lives here, aka "the bell ringer". Not only that but a ridiculous amount of craft brew on tap (like 20+) and to top it off excellent service! After this place got bought by mission springs it has become a haven for beer drinkers and burger lovers! I hate dives, but this is an exception, everything is right about this place. If your looking for a hole in the wall this is the place to be! Also walk across the road to the docks after a meal, if your lucky you can catch some fishermen catch a fish, or see a sturgeon splash.
Went with friends this past saturday and we all got something different off of the menu. One friend had the chicken burgers with goat cheese, one had the beef burger with pulled pork - I think it's called 'the Billy', one had the 'Pullman', a delectable pulled pork sandwich, and one other had a beef burger with various condiments. All of us had the kennebeck fries and gravy for sides. Each of us declared our meals to be outstanding. There wasn't a whole lot a talkin going on while we devoured our meals. There's tonnes of craft beers on tap, and daily specials - which are actually good deals.
Service was a little slow, and we had to go up to the bar to pay for our meals, but I think there was only one waitress on and it was fairly busy, so no big deal.
Hubby and I went again this Monday for a quick bite after work - both of us had the Pullman and again, it was fantasticly delicious! And to top it off, Molson 67's (yeah I know - light weight beer) were only $3.50 a bottle.
Our new favourite pub in Maple Ridge!
My girl friend and I have eaten many times at the Billy Minor Pub, this was the first time we went there after the new owners took over the pub, We asked for a long island ice tea but they only had premix drinks so we asked for a hand made one like we always do and found they wanted to charge 50% more for this and after receiving our drinks we found no resemblance to what we had ordered, we then ordered ribs and upon receiving them we found there were actually burnt giving a charcoal flavor to the hole rack, it was returned and we received another burnt rack tasting the same, the rest of the meal was very poor quality as they used poor quality caned pork & beans along with improperly cocked corn bread, it was doughy and soggy as well as cold in the middle, for what we paid I feel we should have been at an upper class restaurant,
I'm sorry to say we will never return to the Billy Minor and we only live a ½ block away
Having lived in Maple Ridge for 32 years I have seen the Billy Miner popularity rise and fall as a local watering hole and eatery. Some years ago with Bernice at the helm we spent many happy evenings here. Last year my wife and I walked out of the Billy Miner having waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged. We heard that new management had taken over. Yippee! A full parking lot and pub looked promising. The pleasant young wairtress took our order promptly. One quesadilla and a pound of wings took forty five minutes! The couple next to us got their order in ten minutes, a pound of wings and half a chicken! Let down again. Sorry Billy Miner. Maybe the next owners will get it right.
The only reason I haven't given it a higher rating is that the folks who own the Mission Springs Pub and Restaurant have just taken this place over and totally refreshed the place.
New everything in the decor and seating, new staff (the grouchy goof who used to own it is gone! yee haw) and they have new beverage selections and the food is totally being revamped.
We're looking forward to seeing the other changes they have in store and, knowing how the Mission Springs is, then this will be a great spot for some fun and food once again!
I can see having a beer here. It's a good place to go if your in your dirty work clothing and want to have a pint or two before heading home. The food's right out of the freezer and into the deep fryer. Nothing to fresh and tasty.
We recently swung by the newly renovated Billy Miner Pub. We didn't eat but had a few bev'ies and a look at their new food menu. Looking good guys! Moderately priced and a huge selection. Will definately go back to check out the $5.00 weekend omelette special. The service was good and the ambiance a HUGE improvement. Glad to see those yucky old sofas replaced with comfy leather chairs. Long overdue and very refreshing!! They used to have a whicked Sunday nite jam and I hope to see them incorporate it again into the recent changes. Looks like your on the right track peeps!! We'll definately be returning. Keep up the good work!! Cheers!! :)))
Simple pub food. Honest and reasonably priced. Good specials for food. You do not come here for the food though, but rather for the historic ambiance.
Watching the working river is a real treat, and feeling the trains pound by is also an experience.
A better outdoor section would be nice, but it is an old building, and a pleasure to spend an hour or so in.
Some of the regulars can be a little "nosey". Choose your seats carefully.
Prices and quality of food and drinks are comparable to other similar class of pubs. It is understandable that a heritage building is required to stay unaltered to maintain the original looks and none of the old items are to be changed, however, the municipal regulations do not require a heritage building to be filthy with smelly and oily carpets. The old chairs can not be very comfortable, but can certainly be tastefully restored instead of putting a brick to replace a broken leg. The business is being run only to make money and there is no attempt or will to make this place attractive and appealing at all.
This place has a great view and interesting historic photos and furniture but if the smell of smoke turns you off, don't bother. Staff seems pleasant, though it is a pub so don't set your hopes to high. Food is generous portions at decent prices and is pretty good for pub food which seems to be hit and miss in most places.
