I was waiting for an Italian place like this one to open in town and it finally has!!Not only it's clean, welcoming and friendly, but the food is outstanding!!
The owners Daniel & Rosangela make everything from scratch. He makes delicious authentic Italian bread and she cookes the best soups you'll ever try!
They make panini, wraps, sandwiches, pasta dishes and the best award winning pastries and cakes, like their Sicilian Cannoli and New York style cheesecakes.
Pricier than most places but it's sure worth the visit!
I give it a Five Star rating!

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lava and we are really impressed. I found the prices to be quite reasonable for the quality. We shared the best bruschetta I have ever had, (no joke). I had the fettuccini and my husband had the New York striploin. I would recommend both these dishes. My husband is very picky with his steak and Chris, the chef, was spot on with this. We tried a few of the deserts which were amazing. Creme brulee, cheesecake, orange sorbet with rose petals...lovely.
Dining area and washrooms were clean and comfortable. It was just the right setting for an intimate evening. Service is fabulous. Drinks were served promptly. Rob, the manager is charming and hospitable as were the rest of the staff. We loved that the chef came out to meet us. I think we've finally found "our restaurant".

Love the $1.50 muffin and coffee combo!
The staff are always very friendly and polite. The food isnt the best I've ever had. It's a nice atmosphere, large seating area! They always have current newspapers, and magazines to read while you're having breakfast, or sipping tea or coffee. The perfect place to relax.

I've enjoyed the food at Halu Sushi for 4-5 years now. The food is very tasty, and always fresh! The service is wonderful, the girls are always happy, which in turns makes me in a better mood!
I do enjoy my favourite: Teriyaki chicken and tempura! I know...not sushi-like foods, but they make them perfectly and for $6.95 for box A ...it's a dream come true :) I hope they never take it off the menu!
I'm a huge fan of Japanese restaurants that have other things to offer aside from sushi!
Now as for the sushi, it's not the cheapest, but it's always fresh, and tasty! Compared to other sushi restaurants Halu Sushi's prices are right where they should be.
The ambiance is ....just perfect! It's very modern, clean and well decorated.
They are closed on Sundays, just a FYI.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Maple Ridge :)

I was pretty dissapointed with my last visit to this place. The waitress got my order wrong, and when I politely pointed it out, she didnt do anything about it? Like..."oh well". The food was not bad, but it wasnt good either. There is a lot of hype, but in my opinion it was nothing special.
If you're looking to get sushi, try somewhere else...it's pretty bland here.
The ambiance was okay, we were the only people there which is always a bonus!! (or scary....I'm not sure)

Mrs. C and I were in the Chasiucruiser and we were hungry. Since there was nothing else nearby we decided to give Bruce's a try. The restaurant is attached to a market and bakery and nothing was very clean. The w/c was okay though. There was a big selection of foods, with everything from sandwiches to chicken. I had a spinach calzone which as okay, but poor Mrs. Chasiubow had some dessicated chicken with stale fries. Echhh! We also shared some lukewarm tea. The eating area was filthy, and could have used some cleaning. Service was quick and the price was not to high, so no issues there. Overall though, it was a regrettable experience we won't repeat.

I had heard about this place for years, good things too, it just seemed a little upscale for our tastes. Before going we checked the reviews here and decided the "70's retro" aspect might be fun, despite some of the bad commentary, and decided to check it out.
The dining room looked nice, definately retro, with salmon pink table cloths and fan-folded napkins. The waiter, whose Dennys style name tag read "Mirek", seemed almost hostile, and grunted in reply to my partners request for icewater. The menu was pricey, definately more than I am comfortable paying unless I know I'm going to get a good meal, but we ordered anyway hoping the several people around us in the dining room were there for a good reason.
This is when things went almost comedically haywire. After a healthy wait our food arrived, a "seafood newburg" and a "steak oscar". The crab and shrimp on my steak was so rotten I could smell it as soon as it hit the table. While I waited for a replacement my partner dug into his food only to find the same rancid shrimp, this time overcooked and swimming in some watery sauce under a rock hard crust of overcooked cheese, accompanied by some hard potato balls and oversalted vegetables, he sent his back as well.
Its seems returning a meal here is a capital offence because I could hear the cooks calling us names I can't repeat here. Then "Mirek" returned with the same food we had sent back, just with new toppings and extra sauce, I could still smell the rancid shrimp. We told him we were leaving, and as we headed for the door he presented us with a bill and told us to wait for our food to be packaged. This time it was my turn to use language I won't repeat. As we left, without paying, an old man whose breath reeked of booze and smokes came up and told us he was taking down our licence number and was going to "tell the police" if we didn't pay while some drunk in the lounge called us homophobic names in german and two biker types gave us the stinkeye.
We left on foot, the same way we had arrived, hearts racing and my hand on my pepper spray.
Don't go here unless you are in the mood for some kafka-esque performance art, or enjoy spoiled seafood.

This is our second night this week at this fabulous restaurant. I can't say enough about the food and service. This time we ordered the greens for a salad which is always our favourite. Fresh butter lettuce, almonds, poached apples and blue cheese made with a very light dressing make this a salad something to crave all week until the next time. Chris, being the creative chef he is, had a special tonight of pork with the crackling skin still clinging to the succulent, tender meat. This is what my husband ordered and I had the duck. It was spiced and cooked to perfection and left me feeling very sated and full. We were too full to order dessert but have had the experience other times. What a treat that is! This is truly a gourmet's delight and rivals any restaurant in town or in the lower mainland. Robert is charming and attends to all with expertise and friendliness and the rest of the staff is trained to follow his example. We can not say enough about this place!

Lunch with sis...

Brought my sis here for lunch as the few times I have had dinner at this restaurant it has been exceptionaly good. Lunch did not disappoint. We got there a little early - 10 minutes before opening ( 11:00am) but were invited in and served our drinks until the special menu was printed and given to us. We chose from the specials - I had beef brisket dip and my sister had chicken pot pie. Both with sides of caeser salad. Even though it was just lunch - the food was as good as expected. Served by one of the owners who made sure we were happy and had drinks refils etc. Two other servers asked us also if all was well. The chicken pies were new to the menu and they wanted feedback. Don't expect fancy decor - plain and very clean. Don't expect fancy prices either there aren't any. I'd say 5 stars for the little restaurant that could.

I've ordered here a few times, and when they first opened, the pizza was quite good. The last time I ordered here I think it will be my last. The pizza, in appearance looked great, and had lots of toppings, but the taste was a bit off. The sauce and many of the meats taste like they've been sitting in a fridge for a week and ended up pulling some of them off...the ham was slimy...and rather stale. The last two times ordering here its been like this. The peppers they included were dry and one had brown spots on it like it hadn't been stored correctly. There are better pizza places in the area.

Step-daughter took the Other Half and I here for lunch recently. Three adults and a new baby in a carseat took two people to get us seated. We had barely opened the menus and the server was there to take orders. We asked for green tea and a few more moments and then didn't see her for quite some time. The tea was VERY weak and not very hot.

Step-daughter ordered a dynamite combo, the OH ordered a sushi/sashimi bento and I ordered ten-don, miso soup and spinach goma-ae. Spinach arrived almost immediately and was the first sign something wasn't up to standard. The goma-ae dressing was super-sweet and there wasn't much of it plopped on top of stringy spinach. The spinach had not been inspected for quality and some of the pieces were old and discoloured. The whole thing would have been more edible if the spinach had been chopped even a little bit, but the leaves were whole and stringy.

Step-daughter's combo arrived, the two miso soups arrived, and then the ten-don for me. The sushi looked to be standard issue, fake crab/surimi much in evidence. The ten-don was a disappointment. One tiny tempura shrimp, one half piece each of squash, sweet potato and white potato. Overall was poured a dark brown gloppy, very sweet sauce with some shreds of carrot and onion that was advertized as "ten-don sauce". Not tempura dipping sauce, but a mystery gravy poured over everything, soaking the rice below.
The OH sat back to wait, but nothing arrived.

After watching later arrivals being served their food, we asked the server about the OH's bento. "Just a minute, just a minute!" and she rushed away. After that, she was into avoidance mode, avoiding eye contact, avoiding passing by our table. By this time, I had finished as much as I wanted of my meal and step-daughter was still waiting politely for her father's order to arrive (mine was a hot - OK, warm - dish, hers was sushi rolls - in my defense for seeming rudeness!) While they WERE busy at lunchtime, no one stopped by so that we could ask about the missing bento. Finally, I was on my feet ready to go get the "boss lady" when she realized I was on my way over. When we told her that Bento F had not arrived, she said... "you didn't order it" and "I wondered why HE wasn't eating". WTF? Then why was a miso soup (part of the bento set) delivered to the OH? After a brief "discussion" (yes we did order it, no you didn't, yes we did), she headed for the kitchen. Both step-daughter and I had finished our meals by the time his arrived with a muttered "sorry".

During all this time, no fresh tea was offered, although the servers were bustling the teapot around to other tables.

OK, enough venting. Quality of food was "meh" to the extreme. Value was not there - my icky sauce-drowned "ten-don" was $10, small and stringy goma-ae was $4, the bento (standard amount of food, and the tempura was not hot) was $15. The room was standard "Japanese" with phony cherry blossoms. The bathroom was clean enough.

The bill was the only thing to arrive with any alacrity, and there was an extra charge for a soft drink that had neither been ordered nor received. The charge was removed without any apology, and there was nothing else removed from the bill for the aggravation of their "overlooking" one order. They actually stuck to their story that we had NOT ordered the bento!

Would NOT recommend for quality, will NOT return because of having to argue to get an order that HAD been placed.

It has been many years since I ordered from Electra, but noticed their new location on 224th st, across from the Memorial Peace Park, and thought I would give them a try. I was pleasantly suprised to see that the menu, including the numbers for their pizzas, has remained the same for over 30 years. The pizza ordered was excellent, and worth the slightly higher price you pay compared to some of the chain places. Pizza was hot, with a good amount of topings and tasted great. The service was quick and friendly. The interior is quite new, but also rather small compared to their old location, but one of the few Pizza restaraunts in Maple Ridge that you can actually dine in. I will be ordering from here again in the future.

I had a breakfast meeting and I picked this place based on the strong reviews here. The restaurant was nicely appointed and clean, and the service was very good. They had a decent breakfast menu, and the prices were quite low, which is always a bonus. I had a tasty Denver sandwich and a cup of organic coffee for under ten bucks before tip. Not bad at all.

Call me nostalgic but if I was alive in the 50's I would love this place. It's a diner so expect burger's and soda's with a wrap around counter to saddle up for a good cuppa joe.

I've been here 4 times over the last 1 1/2 years and the last time we took my sister, brother-in-law and 3 kids (ranging in age from 6-16 years) and we all had a great time. Kids get a free icecream!

Great prices and a fun place. You'd want to go here before going rollerskating or bowling.

My husband and I went here for lunch on New Years Eve and were promptly seated by the fireplace. Great! I ordered a Bellini which was great and my husband ordered a draught beer, not a full size pint. Our waitress was quick with the drinks although it wasn't quite busy at the time.

Our food was quick, about 10 mins after ordering. I had the vegeburger with a salad, which was an original vegeburger - you know, the good kind with pea's and corn. Yum! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and when it arrived he was a little doubtful that it would taste good. They really good work on presentation however he was pleasantly surprized and it tasted great.

Our waitress came back several times to clear glasses, refresh drinks and was generally pleasant and seemed a little green but that's okay. She did a good job.

The restaurant itself is brand new and welcome addition to Maple Ridge. Casual. Friendly. Good food. What you're really getting for your money here is a classy, fun place in Maple Ridge. You don't have to go to Vancouver to experience this which is nice. I would classify it as similar to an Earl's or Cactus Club. Enjoy this place.

We had eaten here in the past and it was okay, but we stopped by to grab a samosa to go and realized the lunch buffet was on, so we decided to try it -and we were blown away. We've had a lot of Indian food and we were very pleasantly surprised by this experience. Buffets are not easy to do well, we were very happy with the selection, the quality and the service. It's typical Indian decor, simple, but nice, bright and clean. I saw a review where someone complained about spots on the glasses, and to be honest I wasn't looking for thing like that, it's not a high end restaurant, it's just good home-cooked Indian food, and hey at least spots mean the glasses have been well washed, just not covered in strong chemicals or breathed on and polished with a cloth! Don't go expecting Vijay's (in Vancouver) but for a basic lunch buffet this is awesome.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER RELATIONS, will not order from again

We ordered from this restaurant for the first time recently and waited almost an hour for delivery, which was fine as it was a Friday night and we assumed they were busy. The driver finally arrived with the food and we set it on the table while my husband paid the driver with his Visa card. The driver came back a minute later and said that his wireless credit card machine apparently didn't work and asked my husband if he could run the card again. My husband gave him the card again and the driver said the machine had no signal and he asked my husband if he would get into his car with him and drive around the block until they could get a signal on the machine. My husband was gone for half an hour (after working almost 12 hours that day and wanting nothing more than to stay home and relax, hence why we ordcered take-out) and by the time he got back the food was cold and the machine was still not working. The driver then called the restaurant and told them what was happening and my husband offered to give them the card number over the phone so they could take the payment with the Visa machine at the restaurant, but the Chinese lady on the ohone told the driver to bring the food back with him!!!!!!! We were like, "Are you freakin kidding???" After we waited almost an hour for it to be delivered, and then they took my husband out for half an hour to get their stupid machine working and then they wanted to take the food BACK?? My husband told him NO WAY and shut the door. Very insulting. Why punish the first time customer for a problem with the restaurant????????? We will NEVER order from them again.
