Stopped in for a quick bite to eat....Pleasantly surprised at how great the food was, amazing service and very reasonably priced. The restaurant was really clean, staff was friendly and efficient. We were seated fairly quickly and never had an empty coffee cup. I highly recommend it!!
There is no question, the sushi is absolutely perfect at Akane. The decor and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. This is where you go when you want good sushi, no frills. There is usually a long wait at lunch time but it's worth it. The menu is traditional with some western flare as well. If you like cream cheese in your sushi and that kind of stuff then you would find it here. And if you like the freshest uni, this is the place! Their Japanese snapper is to die for! A must visit for sushi lovers!
I'm surprised this place is still open, since it's always dead whenever I visit. But it's the only bubbletea place in Langley that's open late, so when I'm desperate for a fix I come here.
I haven't been here in 6 months and I think it might have changed owners, because the menu looks different and I don't recognize the people working.
When I got there there were a couple people who had already ordered. So waiting a couple minutes wasn't too bad, but waiting 5-7 watching her make drinks without being acknowledged was a little rude. Finally she took my ordered and screwed it up, gave me pearls instead of coconut jelly, but I just wanted to leave. No biggie, but when I tasted my drinks (almond milk tea hot and green apple green tea cold), they were all so sweet that I needed to add water to dilute them. I even when I diluted the green apple, I could still taste the powdery residue.
Was pretty disappointed, kind of killed my craving for bbt since it was made poorly.
Maybe we just get too used to great dim sum at Jade, Fisfermans Terrace and the like that everything else seems mediocre but I don't think that's it. The har gow and tripe were fine, the bean curd barely passable and the beef balls awful and they're my favorute. Like left over undercooked meatloaf the size of a quarter. I didn't finish them for the first time ever. Ambiance is never too relevant in a Chinese restaurant and this was ok. Service was prompt and courteous. Young people trying hard to please. But it's the value or, rather, lack thereof. Unbelievably poor. Sure this is way out in the burbs and you have no other choice etc.. That does not in any fashion justify a bill of almost $21 including tax for the 4 dishes and tea. With tip it's close to $24. For below average food. Maybe the dinner menu would be a better choice. Certainly their dim sum is not an option.
The meal for two of us... three regular dishes 40 bucks plus tax, and the dishes are smaller. I can go someone else and pay half that, this place just aren't worth the money to pay so much extra. The dishes are not that flavorful, and pretty much the same as any chinese take out. They gave me five prawns for a prawn and veggie chow mein. The five prawns were under cooked with had no flavor whatsoever, felt like chewing nothing.
But the bathrooms are a joke, they are so bad it is shocking. Its been a year since some else reported on here how bad they were and they are still like that but worse, the toilet was wobbling on the floor so bad that I thought it was going to keel over, and it was the only one that was clean, the tissue paper dispenser fell on top of me when I was getting toilet paper, and then the sinks, very gross and only one worked, please explain how inspections let this go?
Not worth it, first time I dined her, and it will be my last, take the recent ratings on here as truth, I wish I had my time and money back, and read this first, they are not worth it, put these people in the rating they deserve, low!
I enjoy eating at this restaurant. The food is delicious, the prices are not high, and the green tea is included with your meal.
I do wish they would get a washroom for handicapped people. The toilets are too low for my friend who has had a knee replacement. For older clients with joint problems, these low toilets could be an issue deciding whether a visit to this restaurant is feasible or not..
As I am vegan I provide a particular challenge to restaurants as there are never many foods that contain no animal ingredients. I let the waitress know about my dietary restrictions when I sat down and she promptly asked the chef about foods. I was presented with a quite large plate of rice noodles in tomato basil sauce. The friends I was dining with were even impressed with the taste of the food and said that they will order the rice noodles in tomato basil sauce next time they go. I am impressed by Pasta Polo as they accommodated my diet quite quickly. The decor could use some work but the food was good and at a great price. I came during the lunch rush, but the service was still prompt and polite. I would recommend this restaurant.
I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion as are the last 2 reviewers, no matter how wrong they are. We have been going to Chop Chop for years and never had a bad meal. Always ready when we arrive to pick up. Always hot and tasty. Of course its Candian style Chinese food. Most Chinese restaurants are. Duh.
We have had Chinese food from many different places and I can honestly say, it is not the best I have ever eaten, but it's by far not the worst! Perhaps you people should go try Ming & Sing. Might be more your cup of tea.
As for the free dish, most people don't realize, over $25 it's a free dish, or the discount on pick up. It does say it on the menu. I prefer the discount as the dinner for 4 is more than enough to feed my family.
I guess the best way to decide is just to try it yourself. The majority of us here find the food to be very good, but there's no pleasing everyone.
I used to like getting some perogies to go from this place, once in a while. It is "melt in your mouth" good food. Unfortunately, the last couple of times I went, I felt the service was very unfriendly to say the least. It made me uncomfortable, and I will probably not go back.
This White Spot has gone down hill in the last year or so. The food is crappy and pathetic. The last few times I have gone they have given our family the worst food ever. A simple grilled cheese sandwich they even screwed up on. The cheese was not melted & the bread was not even grilled. It was disgusting. The serving size has even been reduces along with the service. I recently ordered a waffle with berries and got a bowl of goop with half a strawberry and a very, very small ( size of a loonie ) spoon full of whipping cream. When I questioned this I was told that is all they are allowed to give and that is to bad. The burger either come cold and with burnt bacon & the fries either cold or over cooked. The servers don't seem to care at all. I would assume this is a union shop cause not too many of the employees care what the patron thinks. I did an e-mail complaint to the store and rec'd a $15.00 vouchure that I am not even going to use because the food and service is so bad ! Don't go to this White Spot and waste your time or money. .
I was meeting my lady girl and we decided here. I like the chain. The menus contains pasta, meat and even some ethnic options. The wine rack is well stocked and spirits are high amid the very classy establishment.
But I have a beef with this restaurant. At most Sammys used to have waitstaff that are good looking young ladies with hair down their backs but over here the dresses were very conservatives and frankly boring, yes boring. Don't know why expect maybe because it's the suburbs. Less fun here.
The steak was still genuine and the potatoe was good but because of that wouldn't place an order of drinks.
Thanks to previous reviewers I decided to go to Pasta Polo on New Years Eve. Reservation taken with no problems. Needed to see if all that was said was true...or not.
Anyway, we arrived and discovered it is in a small strip mall. I immediately got worried. Once inside, all was good. Great aroma's, warm greeting and prompt attention.
Our server, the infamous Simone was fantastic. She was prompt, friendly and professional and ensured our needs were met. She had good knowledge of the wine list as well as all menu items...makes things easy if you can't read (kidding).
We ordered a lobster and shrimp linguine and linguine in clam sauce. Both were very well done. Pasta al dente and ingredients fresh. The shrimp were perfect! We also started with Caesar salad. Excellent dressing and crisp romaine.
Value was great. I also liked that they didn't trade volume for quality. Whoever was at the pass did a nice job.
The ambiance was okay. Restaurant was clean and passable but could use some touches like consistency of painting themes, some work on the seats and tables and the wood work. I understand this is underway.
If you're out Langley way, drop in. I think you will enjoy yourself.
This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Ever.
The fried rice was dark brown and tasted of the grill and actually smelled kind of like gasoline.
The chop-suey had a think white paste of corn-starch and water trying to pretend it was a flavourful sauce. (It was not). The spring rolls literally dripped with fryer grease and were so over cooked they didn't even have a crunch to them, that's pretty hard to do with spring rolls. The chow mein was mystery meat with a grease ball of noodles underneath. Gross, just pure "eeeecccchhhh".
We didn't even finish our meal and if I had a dog, I wouldn't even feed this to it.
The other reviewers on here either have never tasted Chinese food (and this is americanized Chinese - not even real Chinese), or have no tongues. It's pretty hard to screw up this bad and this close to so much good Chinese food. I cannot believe this place has gotten a decent review, it should be shut down it's that bad.
I placed an order for takeout - and observed the chefs returning from a cigarette break to then go straight into food preparation without washing their hands.
Someones cigarette - and saliva on my food - DISGUSTING!!
Since they can't be bothered to take the time to do something this simple after a cigarette - it makes you wonder when else they are not washing their hands.
Went here for a birthday dinner with friends.
Two of us ordered fish tacos - they were soggy, had no flavour, raw cabbage with no dressing - and the accompanying "salsa" was out of the can fruit cocktail that had been pureed slightly. To top it off - the fruit salad mess was fermented - absolutely terrible!!
This is the most un-authentic mexican cuisine I have found yet - and no intention of returning. The service was mediocre at best and the food was disgusting. It was obvious they were cutting corners with processed foods and charging alot for "authentic mexican". Never Again!!
We went to this pub on a whim as it is not in our neighbourhood. It is in a decent location and there is ample parking. Once inside, the decor and ambiance are very much like an old English pub, in Aldergrove no less. Beer and wine were a bit limited though. I guess I was expecting more. Servers were friendly enough and attentive enough...nothing over the top.
We just ordered burgers. I ordered a lamb burger. I could barely find the patty, although it did taste okay. Fries were wilty. Came away with a "who cares" when we were done. My wife had a hamburger, her description was "pretty ho-hum".
Don't want to "slag" them but with some effort in the kitchen, this place could be really good.
My wife brought me to this place for my birthday. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by staff and offered a number of seating options. Clearly staff are prepared to accommodate customers. The aromas were rich and the decor fiesta like. One needs to keep in mind this is in downtown Aldergrove, so we weren't expecting much.
Upon being seated, drink orders taken and promptly served.
The menu was pretty diverse and prices reasonable. My wife ordered their burrito and I had enchilada's. Food was prepared well and service was quick, although we never felt we were being rushed. Portions are very generous and food was fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. Best Mexican food in Langley.
My family and I have all been frequent visitors, once every few months, of Pasta Polo for years. And although the food is great, it really is one server, Simone, who keeps us all coming back. I know my dad stops in just to say hi to her. I'm sure we're not the only customers who appreciate her professionalism and genuinely sweet disposition. She remembers what we drink, what appetizers we enjoy, each person in our family, and that we like extra candies with the bill. In my experience this caliber of service isn't typical, even at higher end restaurants. I hope she is appreciated by the owners and that she is compensated for being the asset that she is.
My wife and I thought we would try something new as we don't like chain restaurants. Arrived at the Fat Cow at about 7:30 pm. First thing you notice is that it is in a store front with one of those cheezy "open" signs in the window. Once inside it was better but felt warehouse like with high painted black ceilings and exposed ducts. But hey, we were there for the food.
We were greeted and asked if we had reservations, which we did not. We were made to feel as though this were a problem, but there were multiple tables vacant and were seated promptly.
Well we finally got to ordering food. The menu is a bit limited and a bit pricey. I initially ordered the beef burger for $16. but was told (at 8pm) that they were sold out (huh?), so I ordered the sirloin steak. My wife ordered Mussels with warm bread. While waiting, staff were great with keeping water glasses filled.
The food arrived and the presentation was okay. I ordered my steak medium rare, it was medium ish and was the size of a candy bar. Potatoes were over done and vegetables under cooked. My wife's mussels came. The sauce was good, mussels were well prepared, although of the 14 mussels, two were unopened. No bread came. Server waited until we were done until checking in at the table. We asked about the bread and she stated they ran out. Like you couldn't tell us when we ordered? No offer to reconcile the problem.
At this point I was a bit disappointed and just wanted out. Paid my over priced meal and left....hungry. Went to the local pub and we enjoyed a well prepared, reasonably priced, filling meal.
Save your money, there are many better restaurants in the area.
Made a delivery on a thursday evening and was quoted 45 - 1 hour wait. It wasnt untill an hour and a half later that I called them to see where our food was and it hadn't even left the restaurant. How bad is that. Had we been quoted the actual time frame that we waited we would have just gone to another location. Very disappointed in this location.
