They don't wash their hands!!!

I placed an order for takeout - and observed the chefs returning from a cigarette break to then go straight into food preparation without washing their hands.

Someones cigarette - and saliva on my food - DISGUSTING!!

Since they can't be bothered to take the time to do something this simple after a cigarette - it makes you wonder when else they are not washing their hands.

Disgusting - Avoid at all costs
By scubachickie of Langley City (2 Reviews)

Went here for a birthday dinner with friends.
Two of us ordered fish tacos - they were soggy, had no flavour, raw cabbage with no dressing - and the accompanying "salsa" was out of the can fruit cocktail that had been pureed slightly. To top it off - the fruit salad mess was fermented - absolutely terrible!!

This is the most un-authentic mexican cuisine I have found yet - and no intention of returning. The service was mediocre at best and the food was disgusting. It was obvious they were cutting corners with processed foods and charging alot for "authentic mexican". Never Again!!

More effort on food

We went to this pub on a whim as it is not in our neighbourhood. It is in a decent location and there is ample parking. Once inside, the decor and ambiance are very much like an old English pub, in Aldergrove no less. Beer and wine were a bit limited though. I guess I was expecting more. Servers were friendly enough and attentive enough...nothing over the top.
We just ordered burgers. I ordered a lamb burger. I could barely find the patty, although it did taste okay. Fries were wilty. Came away with a "who cares" when we were done. My wife had a hamburger, her description was "pretty ho-hum".
Don't want to "slag" them but with some effort in the kitchen, this place could be really good.

My wife brought me to this place for my birthday. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by staff and offered a number of seating options. Clearly staff are prepared to accommodate customers. The aromas were rich and the decor fiesta like. One needs to keep in mind this is in downtown Aldergrove, so we weren't expecting much.
Upon being seated, drink orders taken and promptly served.
The menu was pretty diverse and prices reasonable. My wife ordered their burrito and I had enchilada's. Food was prepared well and service was quick, although we never felt we were being rushed. Portions are very generous and food was fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. Best Mexican food in Langley.

My family and I have all been frequent visitors, once every few months, of Pasta Polo for years. And although the food is great, it really is one server, Simone, who keeps us all coming back. I know my dad stops in just to say hi to her. I'm sure we're not the only customers who appreciate her professionalism and genuinely sweet disposition. She remembers what we drink, what appetizers we enjoy, each person in our family, and that we like extra candies with the bill. In my experience this caliber of service isn't typical, even at higher end restaurants. I hope she is appreciated by the owners and that she is compensated for being the asset that she is.

Not Great
By inthegrove93 of Langley (8 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, December 29, 2012 - 12:03pm [Dine in]

My wife and I thought we would try something new as we don't like chain restaurants. Arrived at the Fat Cow at about 7:30 pm. First thing you notice is that it is in a store front with one of those cheezy "open" signs in the window. Once inside it was better but felt warehouse like with high painted black ceilings and exposed ducts. But hey, we were there for the food.
We were greeted and asked if we had reservations, which we did not. We were made to feel as though this were a problem, but there were multiple tables vacant and were seated promptly.
Well we finally got to ordering food. The menu is a bit limited and a bit pricey. I initially ordered the beef burger for $16. but was told (at 8pm) that they were sold out (huh?), so I ordered the sirloin steak. My wife ordered Mussels with warm bread. While waiting, staff were great with keeping water glasses filled.
The food arrived and the presentation was okay. I ordered my steak medium rare, it was medium ish and was the size of a candy bar. Potatoes were over done and vegetables under cooked. My wife's mussels came. The sauce was good, mussels were well prepared, although of the 14 mussels, two were unopened. No bread came. Server waited until we were done until checking in at the table. We asked about the bread and she stated they ran out. Like you couldn't tell us when we ordered? No offer to reconcile the problem.
At this point I was a bit disappointed and just wanted out. Paid my over priced meal and left....hungry. Went to the local pub and we enjoyed a well prepared, reasonably priced, filling meal.
Save your money, there are many better restaurants in the area.

Made a delivery on a thursday evening and was quoted 45 - 1 hour wait. It wasnt untill an hour and a half later that I called them to see where our food was and it hadn't even left the restaurant. How bad is that. Had we been quoted the actual time frame that we waited we would have just gone to another location. Very disappointed in this location.

It's cheap and they refill soup and bread for free.
Pizza - $12.99
This giant slice of pizza was so big that the server had to cut it in half. We chose the meat lovers pizza which had pepperoni and sausage in it. The crust was surprisingly delicious and we both enjoyed this pizza.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews for Jim's Pizza. This is, hands down, the best pizzeria in Langley, and maybe even in all of the Fraser Valley. Everyone in my circle of friends, workplace and myself have ordered from Jim's for years. The pizza is consistently good, and the ingredients are always fresh. If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favour and order one today. The special with feta added is my favourite, the spiked hawaiian is also delicious and they do a basic pepperoni or ham & pineapple better then anyone else.

Used to be good...

I went here a few times in 2011 and the food was really good.
The calamari used to be a good sized portion. The caesar salad used to not contain overpowering vinegar.
The Gino's Linguini used to have salmon lox served on top of it as a garnish.

But now? That's all history.

Now, you get a tiny portion of calamari, hardly worth the $10 price tag you're slapped with.

The caesar salad tastes like they EMPTIED a 2 litre bottle of white vinegar into the dressing and about 25 lemons.

Gino's Linguini has fish bones in it -not a pleasent find at all! And it's a small portion, which is really sad.

The waitress - wait, is she a server even? - seemed like she didn't want to be there at all, and was almost angry about serving us.

When the meal was over and I handed her a $100 dollar bill (the cost of the meal was $42.58) she said "so we're good now?" and tried to withold my $50 plus dollars change. Excuse me? Did you think I was going to tip you $50 bucks for nothing!!?

Then she said "oh, you want your change?". I said coldly, "Damn right, I do." grabbed my $50 and beat it the hell out of there.

I will never go back to what I have deemed Beaten. Crappy food. Even crappier service.

McDonald's has better food and service, and many of the employees at McD's are high school aged.

Great food!

Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2012 - 5:18am [Dine in]

My husband and I go here quite a bit, and though it's not a fancy upscale place, the food is really good.
The wontons in the wonton soup really ARE handmade and to get a really good value, ask for the "large" or "Xtra large" size.

If you want the Canadian food on the menu, the server reccomends the Chinese instead, and to be honest, I would agree with her. No, it's not terrible, just that the highlight of the place is the chinese cuisine.

In paticular, the Almond or Lemon chicken, and the deep fried prawns make you take notice. The batter they are dipped in is likely made with Free Range eggs because it cooks up really nice and tasteful, not the drab oily dishes many other chinese restaurants have. Always crisp, but never hard to bite into.

The Combo for one dishes are a great value, and when you also order jasmine tea with them, makes the meal complete.

The vegetables are always bright, vibrant and steamed fresh. They have the crunch you expect of freshly steamed food. The sauces on the dishes are light and flavorful, not overpowering the dish at all.

We ordered the following:

Beef and Broccoli

Almond Chicken

Deep Fried Prawns

Sweet and Sour Pork

Chicken Chop Suey

Nothing to complain about here whatsoever. It is a favorite of ours, and we will keep eating here.

As stated above, the decor is not fancy, as the location has been here since the late 1970's, early 1980's (it looks to be that age) and the washrooms aren't fancy but they are really clean. Not that you'd want to eat in the bathroom.

Nice local place for authentic Greek food. The ambiance and decor makes it very welcoming to have a long, enjoyable dinner. Everything on the menu is fantastic and portions are always really great.I'm a fan of the chicken souvlaki. Enjoy! The tazitki sauce is absolutely the best I've ever had! I'm not Greek so I don't have much to compare to, but I know good food when I eat it. Great local eatery.

It was long time since visiting a KEG and I wonder why. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our booth was little weird as there was normal space on one side and the other was at least 3 or 4 inches narrower.
Waiter was some what attentive to our needs and nicely but not over the top friendly ,but a little slow on replenishing our coffees. I ordered the Tai Chicken and asked for a bit more spicey heat and the chef accommodated and the meal was perfect.Everyone at the table was most pleased with experience.

Less than zero / negative stars

Submitted Saturday, December 8, 2012 - 6:05pm [Dine in]

Early December 2012, Friday night dinner reservations for 5 @ 7:45pm.
Pleasantly greeted & taken to our table. Had enjoyed a meal here a few years before during the summer months & was hoping to share a similar experience with other friends...This did not happen !!!

Upon making the reservation a few days before, we were advised that perhaps a later seating would be best as they were in the midst of office Christmas party season, so we took their advice. All tables were occupied, with the larger parties over in an open banquet area. Both armrests on my chair were not attached securely, as I couldn't move my chair closer to the table without the armrests lifting off.

Drink & meal orders were taken. Age appropriate attire would be a good suggestion for "mature" servers when leaning over to hear a guest place their order. So...clingy, short, low-cut & sleeveless (from shoulders & armpits) are all out ! If she figured it was a good way to increase tips, she was dressed for a different establishment !! I ordered the schnitzel & our server asked whether I preferred the mushroom sauce, or the crab & shrimp Béarnaise sauce. I chose the Béarnaise sauce.

"Beginnings" & drinks arrived & we wet our appetites with a spinach dip, crab cakes, yam fries & "classic Caesar salad with dressing & croutons made-in-house". Was expecting the Caesar salad dressing to taste better than store bought. It did not...definitely missing something...not sure what?

Our entrees arrived individually, 2 orders of prime rib, listed as "AAA best prime rib in town" with vegetables, a scoop of mashed potatoes & Yorkshire pudding (which had somewhat lost it's crispness & was doughy in the centre). A plate of seafood fettucini with a lone open mussel perched on the saucy noodles was placed in front of me. We looked at each other & wondered who's meal I had just received. A different server arrived with the sable fish. As pleasant as this server was, she clearly needed to be at home nursing whatever she had (we're guessing a sore throat), as she could barely tell us what entree she was serving, just smiling graciously. We figured she was forced to work that night to help with the banquets. I informed her that I'd ordered the schnitzel, & told her the server who took my order even asked me which sauce I preferred. She looked confused & with her soft broken voice, we both tried to flag down the original server without any luck. The server who showed us to the table arrived to find out what the problem was, & when I explained what I'd received instead of what I'd ordered, she whisked the plate off the table, & with a big, forced, grinding teeth smile (which came off as a smurk) said in a loud voice, "Oh, you want the Neptune schnitzel?" Nowhere on the menu had the word Neptune appeared, & before I could continue on about the server who took my order verifying which sauce I wanted on my schnitzel, she took off with the pasta dish.

The original server arrived with "AAA surf & turf 6 oz. sirloin with black tiger prawns". There was more plate showing than food. The turf portion was reduced to a small log with black grill marks which probably tipped the scale at possibly 3 to 4 oz. The equally limited surf portion looked more like adolescent shrimp than tiger prawns.

Then my schnitzel arrived. The size of the flattened cutlet made up for what was lacking on everyone else's plate, however, I must have received the extra heaping ladle of crab & shrimp Béarnaise sauce (or perhaps the bottom remnants & sludge of the sauce pot for that evening). The poor cutlet was drenched with just the browned edges of the schnitzel gasping for air, for fear of drowning in sauce. I scraped as much of the sauce, shrimp & short strings of crab meat off, & was left with a soggy, flat, unappetizing "mess". I cut into the schnitzel & offered some to my friend (who had thought about ordering the schnitzel, but chose the surf & turf instead). Later, on the drive home, he commented on seeing my schnitzel arrive at the table, & after his disappointing display of barely surf & turf, he wondered if he'd made the wrong decision...until he tasted the piece of soggy schnitzel I shared with him. Then he knew, the lesser of the two evils was his light weight ZZZ sirloin & shrimp.

I was hungry & always taught not to waste food, so ate my share of the soggy, "tasted like bland, over cooked chicken" schnitzel, but left most of the sauce in a pile on my plate. It just tasted very fishy & looked like something a baby burped up. The original server returned & we figured she must have been on a smoke break because she reeked of cigarettes (plus her deep gravely voice seemed to indicate years of heavy smoking). She made no attempt to apologize or mention the "mix up" with the order which made me assume that she'd let the kitchen think I was a fussy person who had ordered one thing & then changed my mind on it's arrival at the table. I wanted to call her attention to the fact that she had asked me which sauce I preferred, but figured it was a lost cause by then, & to let it go so we could just get the bill & leave. I can't imagine what they did to my schnitzel, as have heard horror stories of what happens to dishes that are sent back to the kitchen to be corrected. Yikes ! Will definitely not eat there again & hope this serves as a warning for others who don't wish to experience a bad meal & poor service. "Surf & TURD would be a more appropriate title for one of those disappointing dishes.
...on a side note, the table beside us seemed to be having problems too. Heard a comment form the woman at the table...something about "going to the kitchen to show him how something was done". They had also received an incorrect order.
Apparently, kitchen closes at 9pm...ON A FRIDAY NIGHT NEAR CHRISTMAS ???

One coffee was missing and she said she would be right back.Tea was served in a funky teapot , Tea- way over steeped and no way to remove tea leaves , should have ordered new one. Ordered meals [reminded about missing coffee]waited , waited, waited . Had to eye ball waitress she finally came with my over roasted terrible coffee. SUPER GREAT PRESENTATION OF ALL 3 MEALS .Meal one [wrong soup] meal 2 [cold fries] and over cooked burger & dry bun. ate part of burger , fries finally arrived. Not onced did waitress ask anyone how their meal was , nor any apologises for screw ups. Manager ......wake up and taste your food , check on service.
What a disappointment . No tip. Will not come back!

This is one of my favourite spots in the lower mainland. My Thai is a somewhat hidden gem in downtown Langley. While the decor of the restaurant is nothing fancy, the food is incredible. Best PAD THAI in my opinion and the green currey is to die for. Food quality is high - it actually tastes like you are eating authentic Thai food and not some North Americanised version of it. Absolutely delicious and a little addicting :) The servers are friendly and if you go often enough, they remember where you like to sit and what your regular order is. Try this place - you won't regret it.

I had my meal there today and was impressed by the taste of food, sweetness of the service and uniqueness of the ambiance.

If you like here, recommend it to your friend; if you do not like here, send your enemy here.

I like vietnamese dishes and was in the area at lunch time. Had a friend with me and we both ordered the lemon grass chicken with spring roll bowl with noodle and veggie. It was very nicely done and was by no means a let down. The prices are about par for the kind of restaurant. Good service and it being a Tuesday lunch time they were doing pretty good business. Lots of seating in what looked like a fairly clean restaurant. My only somewhat complaint is they did not have some items on the menu or combos that I really like. We left there feeling well fed on a tasty dish though. I would recommend it on just what I had.
