Greek Fresh Food!

My husband and I recently moved to the Langley area, and we both LOVE greek food. We were happy to find Kosta's Greek restaurant this past weekend.

We were greeted right away by our server, and she was quick to grab our drink orders and offer suggestions for appetizers. We decided to have a saganaki as per her suggestion and some calamari. The calamari came with the most incredible tasting tatziki. We ended up ordering an additional large size to have as extra throughout our meal. The saganaki was breaded goat cheese and we had the option of having it lit. We decided that flamable foods were not the best idea for us. I had the spanikopita dinner. I could tell it was made fresh! The spinach and feta were delicious, it also had a generous portion of rice which is one of my favourite staple and roasted potatoes.
My husband ordered the ribs, which the server later offered a choice of either BBQ or Greek. We opted for the Greek dry rub and it was fantasitc! Between our appitizers and meal our server brought out greek salad and pita bread, the greek salad had a really nice tangy dressing.

For dessert, we shared a cheesecake. Again, this was recommended by the server and it was delicious. When the server came to check on us and refill our coffees, she mentioned that the owner herself makes the cheesecake from scratch!

We decided that we were going to spend New years eve there and purchsed tickets that night!

Next time we go we will try one of the platters the table next to us had ordered, as it had a variety of difference greek fpods that we both wanted to try.

We will definitely be coming back soon!

Another chain restaurant, but new options
By RestaurantDiva of Langley (8 Reviews)

Although we hardly need another chain restaurant in Langley, this one does offer some great alternative menu options, and a fantastic bar and ambiance.

Offering an asian/wok theme, there are some fantastic menu items such as the Prawn tacos with chocolate bacon, Kung Pao chicken, and Szeschuan beef. The bar side is our favourite, as it offers a great vibe, and the decor is modern and cool. The current GM does a fantastic job at making everyone feel welcome.

If you are looking for dinner out in Langley, add this to your list of places to try, it's on par with Milestones or Earls and offers some great menu items. Prices are around the same as well.

We made the mistake of coming here right after it opened and also sat in the bar. The service was terrible. We were served by some ditzy server who didn't have any knowledge of what was in the sauces they were using but boasted that she had worked there for 2 years. She was slow and unattentive, and I don't know if this is because we sat in the bar section and not the formal dining area. Our bread came way later on in the meal and the appy came way too early. We ordered the lobster special that was baked with cheese on it. For entrees I ordered the teriyaki steak medium rare. My honey ordered a regular steak medium rare. We both ordered twice baked potatoes. The potatoes were runny and my steak was the toughest steak I'd ever been served. Because we had ditzy serving us, she didn't come back and check on us and we felt very ignored.

I ended up calling the general manager the next day and describing my experience. Although he said that I should get the same service in the bar as in the dining section, he was apologetic and sent a $50.00 gift card in the mail. We since used it at another location.

Go to the Willingdon location if you want excellent service and food.

me and my family have been coming here for a while now and love the food. there is a couple who works during the week and they are super nice! the girls who they have running it on the weekend are absolutely rude! the place opens at 11am and we approached the restaurant at 10:58 and were turned away by the girl standing outside smoking. I guessz she had to wait for her boyfriend who was walking across the parking lot to bring her tim hortons before she would open to the public. she looked at us and said that they would not be open for another ten minutes. will not be back because of this. very disapointed.

My family and I recently dined at the Sammy J's location in Langley, we came in with our kids unsure of if we would be accommadated or not. We were graciously welcomed kids and all. They had a kids menu which was more than reasonably priced and the kids get a free veggie starter plate once they have ordered their meal. I have a severe gluten intolerance and when I mentioned that to my server, she left briefly and then returned with a gluten free menu for me! I was astounded by the wide variety of choices that I had. The service was attentive and mindful of our children and their constant needs for napkins, drink refills and help cleaning up.
We had a great night and the kids loved their spaghetti and meatballs! We will definitely be returning soon.

I've been going to the New westminster Old Spaghetti factory for the past 20 years. in the past year I've been dating a guy in Langley, so we go to Langley Spaghetti factory quite a bit. We love that we can go to dinner then go to a movie after, for a pretty good price. The food is pretty good, My favorite is the Manicotti, or Lasagna. I'm not too keen on the marinated mushrooms though, they taste like they're sour :S. In the past year I must say that I have met some good servers and bad ones, But I think my all time favorite is a server named Alisha. Everytime we go in there, She Always wears a big smile and is very prompt and patient with us, as my Fiance takes so long to order at times. Also she always makes sure we are finished and billed in time for us to catch our movie. Thank you and Keep up the good work OSF!!!

Nice decor and the prices to match... however
By tuscanteal of North Vancouver, B.C, Canada (15 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, December 5, 2011 - 11:06pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I went here for an anniversary dinner. We wanted something low key and casual. He picked Sammy J's because he hadn't been in a long time and I had never been period. First of all I will say the decor was nice, they had renovated in July and it was very contemporary... a little Cactus-esque. We were promptly seated in the dining area and were one of 2 other tables there. The "sports area" is sectioned off and it was packed with people. It was quiet in our area though, which was appropriate for our occasion and a Monday night.

We had a very new waitress who said that right off the bat. We ordered Blackjack strips for an appy, which the waitress should have warned us were SPICY... (my boyfriend likes spicy and even he needed some water.) She didn't take our main order until after the Blackjack strips were done. Again I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she was new. The BF ordered a Tom Collins and I ordered a Bellini. Both were so-so... nothing exceptional. For our mains, I ordered the Kung Pao bowl with half chicken, half shrimp and the BF ordered Penne Chicken with cream sauce. His was excellent, but mine came without the protein. Because the waitress was so new, she didn't come and check on us for 15 - 20 mins, so I picked at mine until she came. When she did come she left me with my dish instead of taking it back to the kitchen to be re-prepared with the meat. 15 to 20 mins later my protein came, after my dish was cold and my boyfriend had already basically finished his plate. I will add that our glasses for both water and drinks stayed empty and uncleared on the table throughout the entire night... again new waitress.

We ordered the carnival doughnuts for dessert, which came fresh out the deep frier. The waitress neglected to give us napkins or utensils for the dessert... so we ate it with our fingers as she disappeared again....

I really wanted to like Sammy J's. I think they have a variety on their menu and the prices match that of Cactus Club, but the service isn't there. No manager was contacted with regards to my food, no apology. She took the protein off my bill but for almost a $70.00 bill at the end of the night, both my boyfriend and thought we should have stayed home and made our own dinner, at least we would have eaten together. I emailed Sammy J's about my lack luster experience and have yet to receive a response from them. All I can say is the decor is there, the food is there but they need to kick up their service and polish a bit to be in the same ranks as Cactus, Earls and Joeys.

Great lunch menu here with great prices and quality food. It's not so much the taste as the consistantly good food. If you like western style Chinese the Dragon at lunch is your place. Large portions and good take out as well. There is a decent selection of combination lunchs as well as items on rice like currey chicken. The servers are always friendly and I like to tip them because you already saved money on the meal.My lunch spot when in Langley

There food looks fresh, but saying Awesome food? nope, I still go there once in a while with my family only because I am at Langley, but there are better choices out there for Chinese food.

I never pay too much attention to the service since I was so busy chatting with others, but what I don't like about the food is that there is not outstanding enough for the place.

I've order chop suey, chow mein, and BBQ duck.....and more, however I didn't order the "crispy" chow mien, I order the pan fried, which is real contonese style, that the noodle is soft mainly and a bit crispy edge.

I would Not go back if I have too. If without family, I would go fork n chopstix, however, that place is not that ambiance if thats the one of your concern

Absolutely great service! Awesome food, perfectly made drinks and top notch service by the most GORGEOUS, friendly, outgoing waitresses I have ever seen! The ambiance is fantastic, solid tables and chairs, blinds drawn on a very bright sunny day helped the other patrons enjoy their experience at this very nice pub. The place was packed and that was at lunch time! The bathroom was neat and very clean. I will definately be back many times to this pub and my friends have agreed to make this our meeting place from now on. Highly recommended! 5 ***** job well done!

We liked the atmosphere with lots of people and action all around. The servers were efficient, pleasant and attractive. But it seems many of these clone like places are fashioned after each other because, if it works, why change it. Attractive girls in short skirts. What's not to like? The food for one and the prices. $15 for a hamburger that was just not good. Greasy onion rings. I actually couldn't eat them and I eat anything. A tiny but pretty good sandwich. Yam fries and caesar salad were ok. Three people for lunch. Two cocktails, one appie, 2 burgers and a sandwich for a total of $92 all in. Merely passable food for that kind of money, no matter the pleasant surroundings, is not conducive to a return visit. Given the crowd though, I don't think they'll miss us.

Was I at the same place???

Submitted Thursday, November 24, 2011 - 7:48pm [Dine in]

I am baffled at the previous reviews.
We have been to the Rockford Grill many times since they opened up and love it!
I'll admit it wasn't as smooth when they just opened- but it's a brand new restaurant. New staff to train, new cooks, and probably pretty nervous people all around! I'm not a big fan of the lounge as I prefer a quieter dining experience, but the total feel of this place is cozy. Love the lighting! I almost want to curl my feet up under myself and stay a while (exp. with those $4 glasses of wine!)
As for food - I guess that's pretty subjective, but the prawn tacos and that salmon spinach salad (OMG) is what brings me back again and again. If you love sushi - you'll love this salad. I call it my 'sushi in a bowl' with the almost-sashimi salmon, ginger, and wasabi dressing? Yummy!
If you haven't been - go.
If you have been and were less than impressed- give them another shot now that they've had over a month to work the kinks out!

It's a diner! It's a great diner!
By EatsFats of Vancouver (322 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, November 11, 2011 - 9:42pm [Dine in]

I have to admit, I had my doubts. Looks like a slightly run down little place on the edge of the highway, kind of in the middle of nowhere. But hey, what's life without a little adventure?

We went in. Pleasant surprise, everything looked neat and clean and well taken care of. "Greasy" diner it's not! We were greeted and seated quickly enough. Service is good, but they're not professionals, that's to be sure. But hey, it's a diner!

The menu seems quite subtantial, but it is chock full of a few old diner standbys, burgers, sandwiches and the like. So like any good explorers, we went big. A sampling of the sandwiches, a roast turkey (dark meat!) meal, one of the mountain burgers (I think it was the 2nd biggest, not the Everest burger as the No.#2 actually looked more interesting). Milkshaes. Yeah. That burger? Man, packed with everything you could think of, burger patties, fried egg, sausage, breakfast patty. Yummmm! Piled super high. But you know what? It was damned good! Everything in harmony. Ditto for the other stuff. The turkey meal was just okay, acceptable quality.

After we polished off everything, we had a go at some of their own pie. Dang that's good stuff! So good, we took a whole pie home to try.

Lovely, lovely place. I dunno, if you're a diner food fanatic, awesome place to go, totally worth it. Maybe just for the pies alone. However, it's hard to tell someone any diner is worth the trip out there. Regardless, highly recommended. If you happen to be passing by or have nothing to do, definitely worth the trip. Very good stuff here. The whole package? I might say this is the best diner I've ever been to, by far.

Consistently good food from Chop Chop Chinese Takeout.

Submitted Tuesday, November 8, 2011 - 6:43pm [Take-out]

My husband and I order take out from Chop Chop on a regular basis. The food has always been well cooked, hot upon delivery, and very good.

We especially enjoy the free dish offer once the order reaches $25. Although that has never been offered to us while placing the order, we read about it on the menu and always remember to tell them what dish we have will have free from the options; it is always chicken chow mein.

I would recommend everyone try Chop Chop at least once.

I'm giving a rating of 5 stars. 5 stars for the well cooked food, food that is piping hot upon delivery, food that is delicious every time, and we appreciate the free dish!

And it wasn't funny.

I paid over $10.50 for a gross meal and a pop. I want my money and my time back. Plus I want to throw up and try a better meal.

I got less thana cup of white steamed rice afew stir fried bean spouts, 1 mini piece of broccoli and 5 shrimp with a gross sauce. I could have eaten at a real Japanese restaurant for that. It was nasty. Do not go there ever for any reason. That's all I have to say about that.

We went here for dessert, they have so many cupcakes to choose from. I felt like a kid in a candy store. My favorite is chocoholic, the girl behind the counter was really nice she accepted my 2 for 1 coupon without no problem. I had the root beer cupcake, a cheesecake one. Next time I wanna try the tiger ice cream cupcake. I will be back! The place reminded me of that tv show where they make such beautiful cupcakes. One normal sized cupcake is $3.30 with tax but totally worth it.
