Waka Sushi is a Japanese restaurant in Langley on 91A Avenue.
I have been to Waka sushi many times. I only go there for their food, but EVERYTIME I am disappointed at their service. The waitress never comes by to ask how the food is or to fill up our water or tea cups. I always leave them 15% tip because I know how serving can be stressful, but it seems as though the one server is stressed out almost everyday. But, overall their food is good and I will be going back there.
This was our first visit to Waka, we decided to give it a try after the restaurant was highly reccomended to us. My fiance loved the California Combo (served with 5 pieces of Nigiri Sushi - 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 1 prawn) We shared the Vegetable Udon, which was quite good with the house seasoning. Vegetable Tempura was excellent, great Panko breading, light and crispy, served with a teryaki sauce, delicious. All dishes were very nicely presented. Decor was great, staff was super friendly, we'll for sure be back next time we're craving Japenese!
Their rolls and sushi are quite good. Their hot food was very mediocre at best. Chicken teriyaki was lacking in sauce. Didn't care for the Ebi Gyoza's what so ever. Beef ribs were tough and lacking in flavor. Their tempura was awesome both prawn and vegetable.Their green salad was really good. It had a very tasty dressing on it. Green tea was very watery (in taste and colour). For a full restaurant they should have had more than one waitress working. Probably wouldn't go back there with so many good sushi places available in Langley.
Best presentation? yes I mean presentation not taste. Each dish is like a piece of art - that's truly how the dishes looked like, not to me, but to the 10+ people of my group. The taste is good too actually - one of the best sushi place in Langley.
The service is kind of poor - but on the other hand might be a good thing, I actually don't like the waitress bothering me too much. But it was a big mess when it comes to the time to pay the bill.
The value is fine - not expansive at all.
With so many other sushi places in Walnut Grove, I'd recommend skipping Waka and going somewhere better. While the food is okay (7/10) the service is atrocious. Last night I called, asked if they were busy (they said no) and ordered a large meal for my husband's birthday celebration, they told me 40 minutes. Having been here before I knew that was highly unlikely so I gave them an hour. I didn't receive my food for over an hour and a half! When I complained and said that they should have warned us about the wait no one at the restaurant seemed to care. I told them we had children at home waiting for dinner and the manager said, "Oh, well it's busy" and walked away. There were maybe four tables occupied in the restaurant at this time. After ordering $200 worth of sushi from them I expected better service and some sort of apology or discount for the huge wait. I'll never go back there again.
I went to Waka Sushi with my sister, craving sushi.
We went in and the one and only waitress took us to our seats, right beside the chef..with octopus beside us. Not to happy about that.
The food is good, but with the 2 other people in that restaurant..you would think the waitress would come more..Nope!
The California Rolls were dry and tasted gross..Cucumber was delicous..but then when i payed..apparently no Debit under $5 when most things are 2-3 dollars in there. Short on cash i had to take ten minutes to count out money in pennys and dimes and nickels and silver.
The waitress also had poor english.
Good to go to if you have a few hours to wait with.
Dont go if you are short on time and want a quick eat.
I recommend out of any sushi place in that area..Simon Sushi on 96 ave and Golden Ears Route.
I won't be back. Very poor service with the one and only waitress I've ever seen ignoring us for at least 10 minutes and there were only 3 other customers in the whole place!
The prices on the menu aren't the real prices, look for the small print! you've been warned.
They also support the farmed salmon community.. not good.
Food was good, can't complain about that really but there are lots that have great food AND great service.
On our way to the theatre, we were hankering for some sushi. We generally do this at our place in Langley, but Waka was adjacent to Silver City. We thought a few rolls would tide us over until we could get to our popcorn.
We waited some time for our menus. And when they did arrive, we were hard pressed to find something suitable for the dinner. There was a dinner box that interested us both, however, it was called "Ladies Dinner Box". My boyfriend was NOT wanting to order this. There is no real indication as to the name of the plate. So I ordered that box, while he ordered the beef teriyaki, and we would share as we normally do.
The agedashi tofu had the dancing benito flakes on top, which was a rare treat. The gyoza was incredibly greasy, and inedible. The beef teriyaki was gristly and was served over partially cooked bean sprouts. Overall, I would have to give the food a 'meh'.
The waitress was not very attentive, and in a restaurant with only 15 or so tables, one would think they could handle the traffic. Microwaves beeped beside us, giving me the uncomfortable feeling that our food was not entirely fresh. I would like to give the establishment another try, and order something different, but after we had to stand in line in order to get the cheque, and waiting even longer to pay, I don't know if we won't just go to East Side Mario's for a salad next time.
If you believe business is all about valuing people, I would not recommend this place.
Everything including the food, the interior, and the price was decent.
However, service was very poor, workers seemed like they hated their jobs. The general atmosphere they created was mean and unwelcoming. As I walked out of the restaurant, I felt extremely disappointed.
