I just stopped by this place for a quick snack. I wasn't really expecting anything but I was nearly shocked how great this short experience was!
I only had a few pieces of Nigiri Sushi & a Sunomono.
The sushi rice was really nice. Packed just right so that it was tender yet firm enough to stay together.
The fish quality was nice and they actually served Sockeye Salmon without asking for it!
The prices are great! The portion (Sushi Size) was big.
The sunomono was nice and light and a decent size.
The Chef let me try a complimentary deep fried California Roll which I had never tried any where before, and it was really good!
The service was awesome. There were two young guy waters, very polite and professional.
The interior is really nice, kinda cozy. Done up to look like a traditional Japanese small old time restaurant.
To top it off, they served a nice carved orange for desert again, complementary!
This little place impressed me a lot. I will definitely go back to try a full meal to see what the cooked food is like as well. I'd say this place is well worth the visit, even if you live a bit far away from it.
I've eaten here a few times and decided to post a review. The place is a good size restaurant with nice interior and friendly staff. Prices are reasonable and the portion size is quite large. My last time around I tried the beef teriyaki don and I'd have to say it was okay. Again, great portion size and lots of beef, rice, and vegetables. However, the quality of the beef was B- as it was fairly tough and not as tender and "melt in your mouth" like some of the other high quality beef from sushi restaurants I've tried before. Their specialty rolls I thought were fanstastic! I'd definitely try this restaurant again, perhaps for eat-in, but most likely not order the beef again.
We went for Sushi since my boyfriend has suggested he had came here before and we ordered the Complete Dinner which comes with soup, a boat full of sushi, teriyaki and dessert.
The portions of the fish were big and the chef would always give something as a "complimentary" for you to try.
We had to bring the teriyaki home because we were too full to eat more.
Tanuki is ran by Korean serving Japanese food and it didn't matter. I would go back and I highly recommend it.
After looking for a Japanese restaurant around the Cloverdale, Langley area, my wife and I happen to try Tanuki Sushi. What a great experience! Ordered prawn tempura, chicken teriyaki, rainbow roll, miso soup and even tried the sapporo beer. It was what we have been looking for. Great tasting food! We even got 2 complimentary appetizers...I believe it was fried california roll and tuna wrapped in seaweed (forgot the name)...yummy! It was really a treat. Aside for the place being authentic Japanese(complete with bamboo, curtains & Japanese pipe-in music), the hosts were very nice and accomodating. Worth the visit. As to this writing, we have been there three times already (with our kids)and definitely will come back. Recommended for sushi/sashimi lovers and those wanting a bit of surprise & freebies...
