Good food but limited menu
By VJB of abbotsford (127 Reviews)

What we had was very good. They started us off with an amuse bouche of green peas with mint and tarragon. My husband enjoyed it but I felt it was a bit too salty. We shared an appetizer of gnocchi with duck chorizo and roasted red peppers. It was very tasty and well prepared. Our server brought out fresh bread. It tasted like it was homemade - very good. After the appetizer we were offered a spoonful of cranberry and anise sorbet to cleanse the palate. Nice and refreshing.

For the main course we both had the rack of lamb. At $31.95 it was very good value. It was cooked exactly as requested and was absolutely delicious. We shared a lemon panna cotta with fruit coulis for dessert. It was okay but not memorable.

The big drawback to this restaurant for me is the limited menu. We both ended up ordering the same entree because none of the rest of the menu had much appeal to us. The appetizer, salad, soup section had about 6 choices. There is also only 6 options for dinner and dessert is 4 options. One of the options for dessert was leftover white chocolate cheesecake from yesterday (they only had 1 serving left) and we were the 1st customers to order dessert this evening, therefore the waitress acknowledged that it was leftover from the day before when I asked.

Service was just decent. We topped up our wine most of the evening ourselves and the water was not topped up until it was empty and we had to ask for a refill.

It is unlikely that we would return since I prefer more selection on the menu when I'm dining out.

Amazing Langley Restaurant
By Brizz of Langley (18 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 10:48am [Dine in]

My wife and I ate at 'The Seasonal Experience' for the second time last night and we wondered why it had been so long since we dined here. This place is litterally a hole in wall in a locale that you would never think would have such a great restaurant. Mind you, the interior and decor of the restaurant are much better now since they renovated recently. If this place was downtown, not only would the prices probably be double, but you would never get in.

Food:
Our server brought us a 'palate awakener' of pork pate with pickled onion and red relish. Wow, presentation was amazing, the taste combination was great and it really did get the palate 'buzzing'. We had already ordered a bottle of BC riesling and this paired fairly well together. 9/10

Next we decided to share the braised veal cheeks with hand made crab stuffed ravioli as neither of us have ever tried veal cheeks before. I thought it was great, very tender and full of flavours and our server brought us fresh bread to dip in the braise which was excellent. I would give this appy an 9/10 and my wife probably a 7/10. She wasn't blown away by this dish and found it to be too salty.

Next our server brought us a palate cleanser of frozen sparkling wine and cinnamon served on spoons. 10/10

For entres I ordered the Baked Salmon on a bed of root vegi, and wilted spinach with horseradish sauce. Amazing flavour combinations and the salmon was cooked to absolute perfection. 9.5/10

My wife had the Roasted free range chicken breast with gnocchi and green beans. Cannot say enough about this dish! You may think to yourself, "self, how could a plain chicken breast be thaaaat good." The gnocchi was the best I've EVER had, the chicken was cooked to PERFECTION and sauce (can't remeber what was in it) was rediculously good. 10/10

Finished the meal off with orange chocolate mouse (sp?) and it was also amazing 9/10.

The service was outstanding! Our server was very knowledgable and gave us great suggestions!

The value is also amazing. You are paying prices cheaper than the keg, but the food isn't even remotely comparable... The Seasonal makes the keg look like ABC restaurant.

All in all, you can tell this restaurant is run by people who are truely passionate about food and who pour their heart and experience into every dish. Eveything that came to our table was perfection in its presentation, taste and preparation. There is no need to go downtown, pay double, pay for parking, deal with snooty food snobs when there is a place like this.

Easter Dinner for Ten a Success
By jtempest of Fairview (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 12:34pm [Dine in]

I had the pleasure of celebrating Easter with my parents and extended family last night at this little gem hidden in a strip mall in Langley. Nestled in the SUNDEL mall on Fraser Highway across the road from Price Smart Foods, The Seasonal Experience serves superb food using primarily local and organic ingredients as fresh as they can find. With only five tables and room for 22 guests, the room is small and quiet; perfect for a family gathering. Unfortunately, because it is a converted shop in a strip mall, the ambiance is not great. Clean and nicely decorated, but still feels more like a diner than a restaurant serving the kind of food it does.

Our server was pleasant, efficient and knew her menu. She described everything on the menu and answered all questions. At one point, she even brought out the tray of still growing fava plants so we could taste the leaves that were part of one of the mains on the menu that night!

The restaurant offers a four course price fixe menu or al a carte. My group chose to dine al a carte. I had a seafood risotto that was excellent. Lots of local salmon and halibut with shrimp in a not too creamy rice. My wife had roasted chicken breast on home made gnocchi and roasted vegetables. Others in the family had roast rack of lamb, steak and stuffed Sole. Everyone raved about their food and said it was excellent.

My niece is a vegetarian and was a bit concerned there was no selection on the menu that night. However, the cook happily whipped up a meal for her using various ingredients from all the other mains on offer and she said it was equally tasty too.

The wine list is small, but good. Only about seven or eight selections of white and red, but all excellent and priced appropriately.

Bill for ten was just over $525, including $145 for wine, so the meal would not be described as "cheap". However, for the quality of food we had, I think it was a solid value. And, most pleasant of all, far above the usual chain restaurant fare that seems to dominate the eating scene in Langley.

If you want a quiet dinner for two or a family gathering where there is no rush and you can hear everyone, The Seasonal Experience is worth the drive. Plus, they cater!

My new favourite restaurant

I've eaten here a number of times, including once at the chef's table for my thirtieth birthday celebration. Every time the food has been fantastic. If this restaurant was located in Vancouver you would be paying at least double for the kind of meal that you get. Some of my favorite dishes that I have tried have been the spring salad with castle blue cheese (best ordered spring/summer), the slow roasted pork with lentils, and the lemon panecotta with candied rhubarb sauce. The dining room is small and comfortable with nice artwork on the walls and quiet background music. Just right for a romantic evening out when you actually want to talk.

Exquisite Food

When you first arrive at the location you think to yourself: "Hmmm, this doesn't look like a fine dining establishment.” Then you walk in and see the effort they put into the decor, which is fairly decent considering the space they have to work with. We sat by the door but it really didn't make a difference because traffic is so low. There were 9 tables in the dining room and most full meals with cocktails and wine will take you 2 - 3 hours to complete.

The food quality was of the highest caliber. I've been to many fine dining restaurants and this one has been the best to date. The chef sticks to local ingredients whenever possible. For example: organic greens from Aldergrove and cheeses from Agassiz are in various dishes. My wife and I had the following dishes on April 26th, 2008 (rated out of ten):

Amuse-bouche (toasted baguette with cranberry raisins) - 10/10
Mussels - 8/10
Cranberry Marmalade Brie Pastry Tart - 10/10
Stinging Nettle Soup - Wife 10/10 - Me 9/10
Lemon Sorbet (pallet cleanser) - 9/10
Salmon - 10/10
Beef Tenderloin - 9/10
Rack of Lamb - 10/10
Warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream - 10/10
Mascarpone blueberry dessert - 9/10

All the food was very well priced, especially considering the quality. Appetizers were between $5 and $15. Entrees were between $20 and $35.

The wine list, although not extensive, does have a good selection all at reasonable price points, nothing over $100 as I recall.

The service was also very good. We had a newer waiter who pronounced a couple of the dishes incorrectly but knew what each dish had to offer. He was very accommodating and unobtrusive.

In summary, this was a fantastic end to end dinning experience and I can't wait to go back to try some other dishes.

What a great little find!

Was really pleased to stumble upon this little gem. Quite small seating area, and it does need to be spruced up ever so slightly. However, the food and service were really great. Its nice to see a server that wants to talk about the concept and the dishes etc, and actually knows what hes talking about. I had the prix fixed menu. So I chose Ricotta Gnocchi with Sablefish and Capers, Duck Confit, and a Pana Cotta with elderberries. $25! :) All three were really, really good! I'll return and show it off to friends. To be commended for using local ingredients!!

a gem in langley

It's a tiny place along Fraser Hwy, but it sure delivers big on food quality. It is a nice treat to have a place like this in Langley. The food is just like anything you'd expect to find in Vancouver. Just as the name of the place indicates the menu actually follows the seasons. You're not going to get the same thing you had last fall or winter this spring. It is really an unexpected restaurant given the area its in. It might be nicer if they had a better location, but overall it really is a gem in Langley.

Dining at its best

Tried this great little place a couple of times. Fabulous food. Everything is cooked fresh to your order and the flavors are amazing. Its tucked into the Sundel square and looks like a little whole in the wall from the outside but once you get in you realize its a great, cozy little Fine diningroom complete with white linen. The staff are always friendly and helpful (even when we were making our wine choices). I would say this is our top choice for a dining evening out. Not a great place for kids and dont go expecting to make the 7pm movie cause it not a "get out in an hour" kind of place.
Food was priced as you would expect for a dining room (but I would say cheaper than some Vancouver places I've tried) Appies between $5-12, Main $20-32.
Our waitress told us they do lunch during the week and just opened for Sunday brunch so I will have to try those out.
I am dying to try the Chefs table which is in the kitchen and you get to watch the Chef create everyones meals, but that can book up to a month in advance so I will have to plan for that.
