Went in for lunch, and by 12:45, we were the only cusotmers... A few more came in, but it was NOT busy at lunch in Langley.
WE were belatedly greeted by a young woman who said she was not supposed to be working that day, but she was sorry....
Waited a long time (15 minutes at lunch time) for someone else to take our order. I'm not sure if the waitress was also the cook, but it took another long time for our order to reach us. No follow-up on how we were doing. We sat for quite a while after we were obciously finished to get our bill. Lunch took almost an hour and a half, which might have been why there wasn't a whole lot of traffic there mid-week.
Food was OK, but just standard Greek-restuarant stuff. Kalamari looked like pre-frozen, and was 'way too salty.
We've driven by this restaurant for years, but won't be hurrying back...
Wow. I have such a hard time finding a Greek restaurant that has tramasalata & if i do find it, it's often not quite right. Not a big hummus fan and tzatziki is too predictable...tho' their's is good here. When I saw they had my favourite dip I ordered it right away. I was very impressed. On that alone, I'll come back. My friend had the lamb and really enjoyed it and I thoroughly enjoyed my greek salad also. When i went back a couple of days later to get a gift certificate for a gift (at Christmas time), the owners son said his mom (grandma??) was baking greek shortbread in the kitchen and would i please wait he wanted to give me some. Great service! And delicious cookies! When I'm craving greek in Langley, this is where I come. And next on my list of menu items to try? Nagasaki aka flaming cheese. Hopefully it's as good as the taramasalata!
We love our Greek Food and must say this place gives us our favourite kalamari and yummy souvlakis.
A lovely family run restaurant that services authentic souvlakis and full fills my Greek craving every time.We are often served by Angelica, who's quite funny and entertaining.
My mother and I have come to know the owner Alki and he is a true kind Greek. He is accommodating to my mother's gluten allergy and seems to always be working hard in the kitchen.
I'm always sceptical about new places and appreciate reviews from others, keeping in mind that there are always those who seem to take the "half empty" approach.
I can recommend this restaurant for flavourful Greek food and will continue my searches for great dining experiences....
We went Monday night September 28 hoping it was not busy. It was but we got a table. The Tzatziki has a lot of garlic and is wonderful. Went perfect with pita. the salad was loaded with cheese and really fine light olive oil. The beef skewers are well spiced and tasteful. No complaints from my wife`s chicken skewers. Our daughter was raving about the prawns and found her steak cooked perfectly. This was our second visit and will not be our last.
We went to poseidon tonight. I had the combination souvlaki which is one stick of beef, chicken, and lamb. My wife had the monthly special which is one souvlaki and lasagna.
The lasagne was very sweet. We were thinking it had cinnamon and sugar in it but later found out that putting nutmeg in lasagna is considered french canadian style! We found it inedible and although we brought home a box with uneaten souvlaki, rice and tatziki sauce, we left the lasagne which was done in a small casserole dish instead of a cut square which we were expecting.
The opening greek salad needed more dressing and was nothing special. the tatziki was good but heavy on the garlic. The souvlaki was ok but nothing special.
The weekly special is schnitzel! that should have been our warning in a greek place. If you prefer your lasagna in an italian style go elsewhere or order something else.
Tonight my wife and I took our 3 year old daughter to Poseidon. We were seated right away and were told if we came any later we would need reservations. We thought that was strange as the restaurant was empty except for one table. Within the hour the dining area was full, we could see why we would need a reservation.
To start we ordered half a flask of Chaberton Rouge, Hummus and pita, and ian iced tea for our daughter.
The Hummus was excellent, the best I have eaten. The flavor was well distributed, and unlike other restaurants, the garlic was perfect, not overpowering. The pita was amazingly fresh!
The special was Souvlaki with Lasagna. My wife had the chicken, and I had the beef. My wife shared with our daughter. The chicken was amazing, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beef was the same, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Lasagna, was absolutely perfect!! the cheese was generous and the sauce was meaty and flavorful!
We finished with sharing Baklava........WOW!! perfect.
The service was great, they were attentive to us, and were very child conscious. The waitress moved the candle awayfrom our daughter. Over all I was impressed with her.
I can not remember the last time I have EVER had such a perfect meal.
We will be back very regularly to our new favorite restaurant.
Iced Tea $1.95
We had driven by it a hundred times, but hadn't been back for a few years. It was a cold Wednesday night and we didn't feel like cooking.
The Poseidon looks exactly as we remembered it. We got a table next to the fireplace, as did the other 20 or so patrons that night. Everyone seemed quite content.
The service is simple and unpretentious. There isn't alot of staff and they are not decked out in designer garb, but they are friendly, attentive and welcoming. The food is warm and welcoming as well. Large portions, served piping hot. representing great value. We split an order of dolmades as an appetizer. Then had a souvlakia plate and split it. We were stuffed and happy. The chicken was perfectly cooked. It had a mild marinade that gave it flavor, but didn't take away from the perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. We each were served a salad, that was fresh and tasted as if everything was just chopped. The bread basket was overflowing and warm and more then enough.
We had a brief chat with the owner, and he mentioned that his dad passed away a few years ago and he was continuing the tradition. From this visit, we'd say " very well indeed ".
The normal greek restaurant that we go to has gotten loud and busy so we decided to check this out. Overall, I thought it was a good experience. I ordered something that was vegetarian and it was pretty good. (I can't believe I forget what it was called though) Also, when my party of four went in we were seated promptly thanks to the upper and lower levels of the restaurant. As well as all that, to make the experience nicer, our waiter looked like Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks. The only thing I can really complain about this place was the belly dancing. Next time, I think I might go on a day when they are not there because no offence to them, but I am the type of person who likes to enjoy their dinner and when a belly dancer comes along when I am eating, it kind of disturbs me because I don't really know if I should look up and smile at her or keep eating and ignore her.
We just finished celebrating my mother-in-law's 60th birthday at the Poseidon Greek Restaurant. I can't get over the amazing food and service. Our event went off without a hitch. The owners took the time the meet with us prior to our party to customize a menu that suited our groups needs. The food flowed from the kitchen seemlessly.
All the guests commented on their delicious food. We were served by Angelica, who everyone loved. My favourites include the souvlaki, greek salad, seafood pasta, ribs, kalamari and the hummus is to die for!!
We'll definitely be back!!
My wife and I have been visiting this cosy little eatery for about 15 years now. They hit a bit of a rough patch around year 2000 when they changed ownership, and we did stop going for a few years, but we recently discovered their food is back to its former excellent form.
Whenever we visit Poseiden we order the Souvlaki. Nobody does it better. It's always very flavorful, and perfectly prepared. At some other restaurants I've been disappointed when the chicken Souvlaki just tastes like chicken. Not so at Poseiden, it's always strongly flavored with those distinctive and delicious Greek spices.
The Greek salad is also excellent. What makes Poseiden's Greek salad stand out is that it is never bitter like at some other Greek restaurants. I believe the difference is in the oil they use.
The rice is always perfect. Very moist, and very flavorful.
I would also say their tzatziki sauce is better than average. It's very tangy. I was very surprised to read the other review that claims the tzatziki is heavy on the garlic. I consulted my wife on this one and she agrees: it's just not true. The tzatziki is perfect.
The pita bread is average. No complaints, but nothing special. I usually ask them to withold the potato and vegetables as I just do not like them prepared the greek way.
Poseiden provides good value. The Souvlaki meal is $15 and includes everything I just mentioned, including 2 skewers of chicken or beef. For just two or three dollars more you can get the 3 skewer meal, which includes 1 each of chicken, beef, and lamb.
