Ozark's is a southern BBQ & steak house featuring all you can eat ribs all day every day and all you can eat Wing Wednesday.
We went here for dinner on Friday night. My husband had the full rack of baby back ribs and I had the combo - 1/3 rack of baby back ribs and chicken wings. The ribs were very good and the portion was very generous. My husband ended up having to ask for a doggy bag to take home half of his ribs. The chicken wings were not so interesting. The wings were very small and very dry. I think they were overcooked. We had ordered cheese bread since were not aware that corn bread was served with the meal. When we received the corn bread we thought that it would be too much food so we called our waitress over to see if we could cancel the order. She told us that the order had already been placed so we told her it was okay, 5 minutes later she said that the owner told her it was okay to cancel the order if we didn't want the bread. I thought this was very good of them. The corn bread was delicious. It was very nice and had a bit of a kick to it - must have had peppers in it. The sides that came with the meal were very good. baked beans, coleslaw, + yam fries on my husbands order. It was decent value for the money. Next time I'll stay away from the chicken wings.
My family and I had our first Ozarks experience this evening, and we hope to make return visits soon. We got there early (around 5:00) and for our whole visit there were maybe two or three other parties besides us, which was very surprising considering how delicious the food is.
The portions were VERY generous, two of us had to take home leftovers. Our group ordered the ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and brisket and they were all fantastic. The meat was flavourful and oh-so-tender, and the side dishes were just as good (I even liked the coleslaw!). The average meal come to about $20 per person, but it was worth every penny.
The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant had a very laid back and family-friendly vibe which we appreciated with our young son. If you are looking for some great BBQ, this is the place to be!
My husband and I are regular customers to Ozark's, we try to go in on payday as our treat to ourselves. I will not say that we always have the greatest service, but we also understand that no one is perfect. We have only ever once had issues with the quality if the food and the problem was immediately rectified. I believe we have tried everything on the menu and have not found one thing that we were unhappy with. Any one who has had troubloes should have said something to the server or manager, they would have made it right. If you want a great meal, with good service, in a simple atmosphere Ozark's is the place to go.
We have also ordered fresh smoked hamburgers from them and recieved raving reviews from the people we served them too... Keep up the good work we will be back.
My husband and I have driven by Ozark's many times, and yesterday decided to stop in and try it out. At 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon, we were surprised to be the only people in the restaurant. The entire time we were there, no other customers came in except for one other couple that arrived just as we were leaving. This should have been a clue.
Service was just okay. The waitress was a bit sloppy in appearance.
The food on the other hand...not sure what made them "famous" but it definitely isn't the food. My son's fries were soggy and undercooked. My salad was old, the tomatoes tasted tinny, and my burger, yikes. I ordered the mushroom mozzarella burger: what I received was two greasy patties stacked on top of each other (they "ran out" of the larger home-made patties). Waitress insisted they were made in-house, but they obviously were store bought sub-par beef. I had to use a napkin to sop up the grease.
My husband's chicken burger wasn't much better: burned on the edges, undercooked in the middle.
We are both thankful we made it out of this experience without food poisoning.
Sorry Ozark's, you need to try harder.
My husband and I frequent many different types of restaurants and were intrigued by the exterior of this one. Nice rustic looking building with signs that proudly state "Famous BBQ". We couldn't resist. Upon entry we noticed that the interior isn't quite as exceptional. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't a dump, but it's boring, and boxy inside. The whole place needs to be opened up a bit more. The service was good. Our waitress was young, tired, a little sloppy, but sweet. Not the typical short skirt, bubbly server. It was a nice change, but if they want a more casual feel, maybe make jeans the proper work attire... it would fit in with the ambiance and would make patrons feel like the servers are supposed to be dressed down, instead of trying to be dressed up and failing. I ordered a rum and coke, which was probably the most watered down drink I have ever had. We had the chilli cheese dip for an appetizer, which was good, but a little bland. We enjoy spicy foods, and this chilli definatley didn't have any kick to it at all! My finance had the pulled pork spagetti, which he couldn't finish! Normally he is eating his meal and finishing off mine, so the I was impressed at the proportions here. I had the pulled chicken sandwhich. The presentation and taste of both meals were good, not exceptional. The taste of the pulled chicken sandwich was excellent, but it was a little dry. Their BBQ sauce is delicious. I did find a dead fruit fly on the lime in my drink and my husbands glass had dirt on the top. This was almost expected in a bar type setting...
Overall the food and prices are good. They could be great, but they're not quite there. We would return. If they were able to make the inside/food as good as you are expecting from the outside, this would be an amazing place!
The Other Half and I have been watching the reconstruction of this place on the Fraser Highway in Langley, just across from Willowbrook Mall. Most recently, the location was Pepita's, but that closed down late last year. The building was stripped down to the walls, inside and out. Then a sign went up, "Ozark's Famous BBQ", and we really paid attention.
They have just opened; the OH and I were there for lunch on a Wednesday. VERY nice job on the renovation of the inside. Very spare, understated and comfortable. There is a small bar with very trendy-looking high seats. The whole ambiance is more sophisticated and downtown rather than country. Music was bluesy, underscoring the experience, not dominating.
Not too many people there (I think it was their first day open for lunch), and we were pleasantly greeted, seated and drinks served promptly. For lunch, there is a choice of serving sizes, a few appies, sandwiches (pulled-pork, -beef and -chicken), burgers and ribs. I am told that the evening menu will feature the BBQ aspect more heavily, along with steaks.
The OH and I both ordered the smaller size pulled-pork sandwich with fries. I had coleslaw as the second side, and the OH ordered BBQ beans. The buns were extremely fresh, the pork extremely tender, with a slather of BBQ sauce. Fries were OK, the coleslaw was excellent (more vinegar-y than creamy) and the beans were excellent as well. The small size was more than adequate. I would hazard a guess that the larger size would have more meat.
For the amount of food, with two pints of ale, we found the approx. $32.00 good value.
Something new and different for Langley. Well done and well presented; and the brand-new washrooms were impeccable! Highly recommended.
Went into Ozark's after driving by quite a few times. Had visited Lucille's BarBQ in Tempe, Arizona (INCREDIBLY GOOD!!!!!!!) and wanted to compare our local "southern BarBQ". Total disappointment!! My wife and I ordered the side ribs plate and though the service was quite good, the food was much less so. The ribs were definitely not 'tender and fall off the bone". They tasted chewy, a little tough and I suspect they had been sitting around for a while. The sauce was definitely a good way to disguise the quality of the food. I will, however say that the beans were good. All in all, a one hit wonder as I'me sure there are better place to go for fresh BarBQ ribs
We had a nice lunch here. The chicken breast was very moist and tender, the side dishes were fine. I think there could have been a little more barbeque sauce on the chicken for my liking, but it was very delicious.
Since there were only a couple of tables occupied we were seated right away, and served drinks quickly. The server did not, though, come back to offer more drinks during the meal. Another woman came to ask how we liked the meal, and proceeded to take away used dishes. I didn't like this, I would have preferred to have the dises removed at the end of the meal instead.
We were offered tea/coffee and dessert, but did not partake as all the desserts were way too high fat, and selection was very limited.
I liked the decor, it was clean and simple, no carpet or draped to collect dust.
The out door patio is a nice idea, but I wouldn't want to sit at a wooden picnic table. It was raining so it looked dreary. Nice glass tables and umbrellas would be more inviting.
Overall it was nice, the food was good and I think I'll try it for dinner some time.
Forget Memphis Blues, Montanas, or Boonie's, this is the real deal. We drove from Burnaby to Langley just to prove how good this place is. Indeed we weren't disappointed. To be honest I've never tasted real southern BBQ in Vancouver areas. I tried all the places mentioned above and some of them are just plain bad (ck out my past review). So this evening I got a sudden crave for some real BBQs, maybe because of watching too many Dinners, drive-ins, and dives on TV. Upon arriving, we told the waiter that this was our first time and he quickly recommended us to order from the pull pork all the way down to ribs. Basically he said that we couldn't go wrong by selecting either one of them. I quickly ordered the baby back ribs and the beef brisket for my wife. It was around 8:30 pm when we got there on Friday night and they were 60 - 70% full. The food arrived and they gave us this free corn bread as sides...it taste pretty good. Now, the best part is their baby back ribs, so tender and moist, this is what you call it "fall off the bone". The briskets are unbelievably tender and juicy, the texture is great and you can really taste their smokiness. I was so ecstatic after so many years living in Vancouver to finally find this place. Now we don't have to go south of the border just to eat BBQ. Next time I will try their BBQ beef ribs. So far nobody beat the Stoney Nakoda Resort's famous BBQ beef ribs(located near Canmore, AB). Well done, now we have a new favorite in town...
So 4 of us went on a Tuesday night a couple of weeks ago - it was totally dead, so our chances of avoiding the awful service I had read about were pretty good, and I was right, sort of (will explain). We all ordered the all-u-can-eat ribs, which were good. In fact, the waitress was really nice as 3 out of 4 of us couldn't eat more than a regular serving of a full rack so she reduced our bills to the normal rate of a full rack vs. all-u-can-eat. The 4th ate a lot of ribs. Must get the ribs with sauce!! The sides were good, I had the beans and baked potato (no sour cream though, arghh), the others opted for mashed potatoes and/or fries. All said they were good. Service was good up til this point.
Then came dessert, and to the waitress' benefit this was not her fault. We were one of 2 parties in the place, and we ordered one dessert to share between the 4 of us (we were pretty full-o-ribs). It was deep-fried cheesecake, which BTW tasted kinda like a gooey cinnabon for some reason, anyway . . . it took over 20 minutes for the thing to come out? The kitchen people apparently forgot about the order? The waitress redeemed the situation by bringing out 4 forks and a knife with the dessert, and split the amount on each of our bills, so that was good forethought.
I don't think I'd initiate the idea to go back, but if someone else suggested, I'd probably agree. I'm still waiting for Boonies BBQ to reopen. Now there's some good BBQ!!
Went there with a group of friend's for Thanksgiving. Had heard a lot about this place. We weren't disappointed. Plenty of parking at the back, intial reacton on entering was positive. The layout is simplistic and comfortable. Big screen tv's are placed strategically around the restaurant.
The dishes at Ozark's are reasonably priced. We shared a platter which had chicken, pulled pork, yummy beans, coleslaw, ribs etc - on the menu it says for 4, it was enough for 6 and we still had left overs. The big beef ribs were amazing and the corn bread is delicious. We would have loved to have ordered dessert but at that point our eyes were bigger than our bellies.
Our server was patient and very efficient. Though i could see how some of the other servers would need to up their game and why other reviewers haven't been as compliementary. I guess we were just fortunate that night. I wouldn't make a special effort to go there, but if i were in the area - i'd go back again for sure,
I was craving ribs and brisket for some time after watching some of the Food Network shows on tv. I had my doubts about this place. And sure enough, the food was average. We drove in from Richmond hoping to find something great or different. I think if you are not spoiled by good southern cooking, you may find something on the menu that you like. For us, it was nothing special or worth the drive. I can't wait for our next trip down south of the border.
SO and I enjoyed an excellent dinner at Ozark's on March 19th.
The restaurant is nicely decorated; looks fresh and clean. Friendly hostess looked after us promptly, and a terrific male server who was very happy to explain the menu items and provide guidance.
My brisket dinner was a real treat that reminded me of old Fatzo's on W Broadway rather than Memphis. Lean beef seasoned & cooked perfectly. Very good beans on the side with a tasty Kentucky styled slaw. I came in hungry and the portion size was very satisfying.
Spouse enjoyed beef ribs with baked potato and beans. Similarly impressed with well-trimmed ribs that spent a nice long time in the pit. Very tasty spud...
Did I mention that we started with a very good corn bread & some well-priced beer?
With the main courses having been so exceptional, we decided to try a desert despite already being 'full'. Server recomended the bread pudding and it was amazing...
Comparisons to other BBQ joints in the region probably aren't fair; BBQ encompasses a number of styles and flavours from the Carolinas to Texas. We will most certainly return to Ozark's - The food exceeded expectations and the experience was very positive.
Don't expect anything outstanding from Ozark's Famous BBQ. The food is pretty much understated and lacks anything outstanding. Sure, you won't walk away disappointed but the high price for their meals and appetizers don't bring justice to your taste buds.
I'd suggest you go somewhere else to find a decent BBQ in Langley. Even Denny's cooks up better meals than this place.
Im going to be quick on this,
Food - Not good not bad, not a good way to have a great restaurant. Had some "rib tips" were deep fried smoked dry ribs. WAY over cooked and hard as hell. Main dishes were ok, more braised than authentic BBQ. sauce is mediocre. I guess if you can't make your own pulled pork this would seem decent, but I can, and I know whats better... mine. The sides were pretty plain, too much vinegar in the beans and coleslaw. Mashed potatoes were just like mom used to make, dry and boring. All pretty mellow.
Service - Ok I guess, seemed a little flaky. I have experienced alot worse though.
Value - Very bad. They write on the menu how they cut their own meat to save the customer money. I don't think that $18.95 for 4 slices of brisket and mass-made sides (coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and beans) is a very good deal at all. Brisket is a pretty cheap cut.
Ambiance - Oh the humanity, too much spiky hair and affliction t-shirts with bad tribal tattoos, too much wine gobbling suits and overall more people drinking like its a bar then enjoying the food, but hey, if you had the food you would drink to enjoy it too. It was very loud and very "open" not that I am against open floor plans, but when you have a table of 10+ drunks beside you cussing and swearing during your meal it gets old fast.
Been here tried this, not coming back.
To be fair, I am divided on this place. The service was lacking, and the prices were just a little steep for my liking, however the food was excellent, and to me that's still the most important consideration. So we didn't get asked if we needed anything, and didn't get a refill, we had pulled pork and beef brisket and enjoyed it a lot! We will be back, it's worth giving them a bit more time to hit their stride.
Last night my wife, a friend of ours, and I decided to head back to Ozark's Famous Bar BQ. We had been there once last year and were impressed but found it a little pricey for our budget. Last night we were pleasantly surprised. Although it was very busy we were seated in about 15 minutes. A couple of minutes later our drink orders were taken.
It was very loud because there was a large B'day party going on a couple of tables away. There is nothing the management can do about that and I have been a part of one of these parties in the past as well so we ignored it and had fun ourselves.
Upon reading the menu we found that the prices hade been reduced by $5 for a full rack of Baby Back Ribs (MMmmm my favourite). The last time we were here there was no corn bread but to our surprise the waitress dropped off a basket of corn bread that was quite good. (I am not a corn bread fan but found this to be quite palatable). The ribs were amazing and definitely better than the ribs we had last weekend at Memphis Blues in south surrey and also at a more reasonable price. I had read some of the reviews on this site before we went and found that almost everything that people had complained about had been remedied so obviously the management is reading this site and learning from it.
To the management of Ozark's I commend you on being responsive to your patrons wishes and thank you for the best ribs in BC. See you again SOON!
Had a chance to try the new BBQ in the area. Generally I was disapointed. The service was really good and the enviornment freindly and clean but the portions where small and there was way to much BBQ sauce on the entree. I had the Briskett there where three small slices smothered in BBQ sauce, the sauce was good but overpowered the flavor of the meat ( perhaps should be served on the side). Side dishes of Beans, Slaw, and Potatoe salad are good but again small. My wife had the Chicken which had less sauce on it and tasted good but was the smallest chicken leg I think I have ever seen.
Overall I didn't think it was good value for the money and most likely wouldn't return or recomend it to friend's
I really don't understand the negative reviews. People need to allow a restaurant to find it's groove and settle in a little before they start complaining, for Pete's sake! We've dined there at least 15 times and were looking for their phone # on line (to order take-out yet again) when I came across these less than complimentary reviews and just had to put my two cents in! Their meat is smoked to perfection, their barbecue wonderful and the wings the best I've ever had. Their sweet potato fries are to die for! We used to go to Earl's all the time for their wings -- not any more, even though they are cheaper! We had friends from the Arizona say that finally they tasted "real barbecue" around here when they had their ribs!
DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!!!
The return visit to Ozarks BBQ December 29th was well worth it.. No doubt Ozarks produces the best ribs I have ever had. As a true fan of real barbeque going back to Ozarks was high on my travel agenda, unfortunately Edmonton has nothing even close. For the uninitiated real BBQ involves a very slow cooking process at low temperature. The result is exceptionally tender meat with a wonderful smoke flavour and Ozarks does it right
A real highlight on this visit was I found out Ozarks provides a take out service, so I brought 10 full racks of baby back ribs back with me along with several bottles of Ozarks BBQ sauce. One of the staff gave me very excellent advice on how to prepare them.
