A trip down memory lane...

.... was what I was looking for. Did not find it here.

Last time I was at this place, the food was acceptable if you did not have high or gourmet expectations. Or so it seemed at the time...

Went in a couple of weeks ago on an early Saturday afternoon. I was dining solo, and wanted something hot, tasty and inexpensive. An epic fail on all three. I wish I could give less than one star.

There were a few people scattered around the large room. I was escorted to a table quite far out in a sea of empty tables. I asked to sit a little closer, and the hesitation to oblige me was obvious.

Ambiance... it looks like nothing has been changed or upgraded in years. I did not check out the washroom.

Food quality? How can EVERYthing taste the same?? Too much MSG? The overwhelming taste was salt. Vegetables were overcooked and limp. Deep-fried items were barely warm and greasy. I never did see some of the just-about-empty trays refilled. Items that were NOT very popular looked dried out, as if they had been on the steam tables too long. As mentioned in other reviews here, the dessert space was pretty sad.... and only TWO colours of jello (yes, that last is meant as sarcasm).

Service? Not to speak of. Perhaps I annoyed them when I asked for another table? Had to ask to have water topped up, and the second time I asked, the water never did appear. Empty plates stayed on the table - they were still there when I left. No bill arrived, so after waiting a few minutes, I put on my coat and headed for the cash register. Suddenly, there was some attention paid to me.. I think they thought I might "dine and dash". My bill was non-existent, and that caused a flap behind the counter. I was told I already had it. I told them I did not. They started to write up another one, and I heard the word Pepsi (or Coke - don't remember which) and the woman behind the counter started to add something to the bill. I spoke up and said "just one buffet, and no pop. I had water." She scratched something off the bill.

I paid and got out of there. I won't be going back, and would suggest a careful check of the total of the bill before paying.

Holy Mao Tse Tung! This Place Needs a Cultural Revolution!

Day-glo Jello on the "salad bar?"

Besides that, the rice was hard, the won ton soup looked like the Fraser River, and the food was greasy, bland, and salty.

Lotsa lotsa choices.....the "New China Kitchen" buffet would feed l.3 billion hungry Chinese, but if you want quality over quantity, go somewhere else.

$16 bucks for this ????

Cold, greasy and tasteless were the only ways we could use to describe our meals.

It did not matter what we ate, it was all the same. Except for the Sweet and Sour pork, which was full of grissle and chewy. The spring rolls are nothing more that Ramen noodles with the seasoning pkg wrapped up and cooked. Wonton soup was luke warm and tasteless....

What a shame for $16 per person.....

Yet the food the kitchen staff were enjoying only a few tables away, was piping hot and smelled wonderful

Buffet or not buffet?

I have to say my hubby and I are buffet nuts, and we try to visit any we see or hear about. This was the WORST buffet we ever have dined at. I asked to see the buffet before we were seated and saw that most of trays were scraps or dry, obviously had been sitting for some time. I asked if they were bringing fresh food out, and the hostes said, yes yes, soon!

So we decided to stay and grabbed the food that looked fresh and I was quite disappointed that all the dishes I would've really liked were either like I said scraps or dried right out. However, I remembered the hostess's promise so we sat down to eat. We didn't take much, hoping for the fresher stuff to come out by the time we were finished, but still after a 1/2 hour, they only brought out 2 items at a time.. literally 2 or 3 chicken balls, about a 1/2 cup of noodles or 1/2 cup broccoli at a time! I asked the hostess if they were bringing more so they did bring out a few more chicken balls and fresh rice.

I don't usually leave such a long review, but I just want everyone to know what your in for if you decide to visit this place.

I also want to mention that while we were eating our dried out food, the staff were having their dinner all together, cooks, servers, and etc, and they brought out huge dishes of freshly made food and fresh rice! I was flabbergasted!! They put this food on a table they were eating at and left us all watching them enjoy their food.. Unbelievable! Not worth 14.95. I've eaten 5 dollar meals more savory and satisfying.
