Mr. Mike's Steakhouse & Bar (formerly Mr. Mike's West Coast Grill) has been around for decades. Things have changed over the years, but the main focus has remained great steaks and burgers.
Went here for dinner with the wife and at first it was not the most positive experience. First there are 2 ladies who opens the door for you when you approach the restaurant. In my situation, I waited and both girls were not paying attention. Only till I open the door myself that they notice. We were seated within 4 minutes, which was good. Once we were at our table we, my wife and I looked over the menu 3-4 times and decided to order. Our waitress was not around to even take our drink orders, yet there were abundant amount of staff working. I counted from where I was sitting there was at least 10 waitress and 2 bussers. Not until I had to flag down a server to ask where is our waitress that a waitress came for our order. I ordered the 5oz steak sandwich and my wife ordered the bacon burger. I asked my steak to be rare. When the food arrived, I was missing the fries and the steak was well done. The manager came by and heard that the experience was not up to par. Or she saw the expression on my face. She had the steak sandwich replaced with another one and that one came back well done as well. She ended comping the steak sandwich and offering a free dessert. If it was not for the female manager to somewhat rectify the problems and to acknowledge the issues, I would not have want to return. She did a wonderful job of damage control as we heard there was several other mistakes in the evening with other patrons. Hopefully once they finished their growing pains they will become a successful establishment.
Unfortunately this restaurant needs a lot of work. Value is very poor, food is mediocre and portion size is small for amount charged. The manager is lazy and certainly isn't welcoming unless you are consuming alcohol. Service is extremely slow you can wait up to 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge you are at a table.
Now I remember why I do not go there often. Ordered the steak sandwich med rare, arrived well done , fries burnt and tasted of old oil. Coffee was good. Should have commented but was with a group and I wasn't paying. Others mentioned portion sizes seemed to have shrunk.
Too many other choices in the Langley area, won't be back .
Had a late lunch at this location on Monday, Aug. 6 at 3:30 pm. We both had the Mr Mike's steak sandwich. The meat was cooked to order correctly, and it was open faced. We laughed when we saw they used one 4 inch chunk of a bun and that one of our pieces was 3/4 thick and the other got the 1/4 sliver remainder ...so neither of us were completely happy. There was absolutely NOTHING else on the bun, but the smallish piece of meat. No condiments, no lettuce leaf, no tomato, nothing..... The fries that came with were fine but not freshly fried. Two onion rings also accompanied that were good. We also shared a ceasar salad to start and it was good.
The server saw I was opening a gift after the meal and asked if it was a birthday and yes (the next day). She offered a free dessert but we declined as we were too full and it would have been rude to ask to take it home. A lovely surprise came when the bill was given to us - was that the manager suggested to the server to deduct one of the Carona beers we had ordered instead. That was a very nice gesture and a top notch customer service act.
I normally dine at the Coquitlam Mr. Mike's which is awesome for all the qualities this website rates. Yesterday I went to the one in Langley:
- The hostess was nice enough, but she was dressed in a see-through skirt made from thin white t-shirt material and was overflowing her top. This lowered the "class" rating of this establishment considerably.
- The food was okay, baked potato was cold and steak was overdone but still edible and tasty. The onion rings were big and very nice. I didn't get the side of mushrooms I ordered. A piece of corn on the cob was the side dish, which is about the easiest thing in the world to cook and not the easiest to eat (in public). Next time pick a side that's a bit more sophisticated and takes a bit more effort to make. The cheesecake bites were really good though.
- The service was ok but a little slow. We had to go to the cash register to pay. Our server was there too but ignored us, opting to clean a table instead. Thanks, bartender, for helping us out.
- All of these things might have been overlooked had the pricetag been more reasonable. I paid $19.00 for my steak dinner. There are other places that offer better quality food, service and ambiance. When I want to pay $19 for a steak again, I'll probably go to The Keg.
Only a few minute walk from our house, and the previous 2 times visited were worthy of a return visit.
This 3rd visit however was woefully lacking in both food, portion and service.
Our drink orders were taken very very quickly, but for some strange reason my wife's drink didn't show up until the we asked our waitress who came to take our order 8-10 minutes later.
I ordered the 6 oz Rib-eye medium rare. She ordered the 12 oz Sirloin plater medium rare as well. My steak came cooked VERY VERY VERY WELL DONE, a small dessert spoon sized portion of mashed potatoes and a single small onion ring. Hers came a few minutes later minus everything except the steak itself, which was swimming in a pool of liquid.
We commented on the lack of sides and wrongly cooked steaks, both items were quickly wisked away back to the kitchen for re-cook. The manager ( lovely lady ) came out to find out what was wrong and to correct it. She offered us 2 garden salads while we waited for our meals to be re-prepared.
Deja VU. no sides and over cooked steaks. By this time, we were both tired, and hungry, so we decided to just settle our bill for what we had eaten and drank. Took forever to find someone to get our bill and then for someone to process our debit card.
The manager was clearly embarassed and simply gave us a nod when we were walking out the door.
To add insult to injury, the person processing our debit card had the gall to ask us if we would be leaving a tip !!!!
We will not be back, as our time is valuable and our money is hard earned. There are other establishments out there that realize this fact and we will be giving them our time and money from now on.
We ate here on Saturday night as we had tried them shortly after they opened and we liked it. What has happened since then?
My wife's french fries appeared to be baked and lacked any taste what so ever. I was asked if I wanted "the works" on my baked potato. Apparently that does not include butter. I was served two small onion rings with my steak. When did onions become so expensive that rings are doled out like they are made of gold? Credit where credit is due and my steak was pretty good. For almost $30 though, I expected more of my choice.
I asked if they had ice cream sundaes as they were not on the dessert menu. When it arrived I was flabbergasted. One teeny scoop of ice cream and no more than a teaspoon of chocolate sauce. My wife's fruit crumble was so badly burned on top that she had to remove the crumble. She said that she could not tell what kind of fruit was inside, once again because of it lacking any taste. She left most of it before we left.
The coffee was so cold I asked for fresh cups. The service was next to non-existent. I am not in a hurry to go back if this is the new attitude being expressed.
Stopped by for lunch and ordered one of their special hamburgers with the football theme, there were 4 of them to choose from. They were asking you to vote for the best one online. Well, what a frustrating dining experience. I made the mistake of ordering one of these gargantuan burgers and what a mess. It was served "open face" with the patty, mushrooms etc. on one side of the bun and the lettuce, tomato etc. on the other side of the bun. I put the burger together and tried to pick it up and it just totally fell apart. It is so huge it is impossible to pick up and it just became one big mushy mess that was absolutely impossible to eat like a normal hamburger. I had to eat the thing with a knife and fork and 50 million napkins. Why serve a burger like that? Would I go to Mr. Mike's again? Sure. Would I order another one of those "special" burgers? Not on a triple dog dare.
Wanted to take the girl out. I used to go to Mr. Mikes all the time for their tasty and inexpensive steak dinners. We walk in to the worst music you could imagine, like Nickelback doing techno. We're seated and notice it's too chilli in there to take a jacket off. We ponder the new look menu for some time. My girl asked the hostess if they have balini's (sp) and she says "yes". The server comes and when we order the drink, they don't have them. started with potato skins which were overcooked. Then our meal arrived. My girl oredered a nice rib-eye and it came to the table covered in creamed crab. My girl can't stand seafood so...the server somewhat hesitantly said she's exchange it. My steak and crab legs arrives sans crab legs at first and with some Beverly Hills looking presentation. $30 for TWO asparagus pieces, TWO onion rings and a small scoop of mashed potato with my 7oz sirloin. The steak was so tough I couldn't even chew it. The portion is like I said, Bevery Hills in Langley where people work hard. The crab was terrible. It didn't seem to have been rinsed and smelled really fishy. It crumbled instead of coming out in nice meaty chunks. They comped my meal and I'll never go there again.
I didn't expect much from Mr Mikes, but boy was I surprised! The food was great. Me and my friend both ordered steak. I ordered the sirloin oscar and she got the regular 7 oz sirloin. Both steaks were cooked well and tasted great. The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive. We sat in the lounge and it was definitely a great experience.
I will definitely be coming back here again!
Upon entering Mr. Mike's you'll be pleased to find that the restaurant is a complete overhaul over the stale Kelsey's decor that previously occupied this space. The dining room is laid back with a warm west coast feel and the lounge is a jewel in this modern and hip interior. The Mr. Mike's people got this right. Then there's the food. My Dad and I waited a while, but when the food arrived, it looked well prepared. We ordered the Bacon Mikeburger and it was served on a toasted garlic loaf instead of the typical bun. It was very good, but it was the gravy that stood out for me. Rich and tasty, it was a superb compliment to the meal and I found myself constantly dipping my burger in it. Our server announced that because of our wait, we would receive free dessert. Bonus! However, we found out that it was only one dessert, even though we had two meals. This seemed strange, and so we declined and so they removed the beverage price (sodas) from our meal. All in all, it was a good experience.
My husband and I went to Mr Mikes for dinner on New Years Eve and we were VERY impressed. Everything was incrediable, sevice was outstanding as was the food. We had the steak and crab dinner and it was as good as anywhere I have ever had. Thank You and we will be back very soon.
