A cozy little sushi house located in downtown Langley
I aways order the sushi boat for 2 or 4
I were introduce by friends and became regular whenever I visit Langley.
You cant say its real Japanese Food but as long as its what I love, who cares ^^
Please keep the sushi boat, I've tried many sushi places in Langley, I used to go to Tokiyo sushi
However, after they change the sushi boat, I came here to maru, and it's great, very fresh with a reasonable price.
Great place! my wife and I had the boat for two! There was plenty of food and the soup, the tempura and the fish was very fresh and delicious! The boat also came with chicken Teriyaki, this dish needs work! But all in all the food and the price is great.
I recommend this place to anyone who likes sashimi and sushi.
Next time we are in the area, we will go back with pleasure.
We had a great 25th anniversary dinner with a good bottle of cold sake,
We just finished having lunch and even my very fussy daughters raved about the food! They each ordered lunch box A and we asked for cali rolls to be substituted for the tempura and they did. The gyoza was excellent, all the sushi was fresh and the service was prompt, which was nice especially since it was pretty busy for a Sunday. My husband and I ordered the boat for two and could hardly finish! I would highly recommend, I am sure you will enjoy.
We ordered: salmon and tuna sashimi, ebi sunomono, chicken terryaki, assorted tempura, california roll, and dynamite roll.
The sashimi was very good, it was very tastey and fresh and served at a nice cool (but not cold) temperature. I love the sunomono salad (but then I always do), although I will say if it's called 'ebi' it should have more than one prawn in it, and it was a VERY small portion (like 3 bites). Although it was only $3.50. The chicken terryaki was good but it was dark meat, which doesn't bother me but I know a lot of people prefer white meat. Tempura was fabulous, and the rolls.. While the dynamite roll was very good and fresh tasting, the california roll did taste like it had been made a bit earlier, and the filling was 95% crab, there was very little cucumber or avacado. Some people prefer that, it is not my favorite. So I would say everything was delicious but the california roll was very average, in my opinion.
The service was prompt, although she did not bring us the bill, I think she just didn't want us to feel rushed. She was friendly enough.
It was about $17 per person for dinner with tax and tip, for more food than a reasonable person will eat.
I love the interior of this restaurant because there is a lot of privacy, pretty much anywhere you are seated.
I specifically joined this website so that I could rate this place... it is by far the best sushi place I've been to since coming to Vancouver 12 years ago. I disagree with the comment below that it's in a shady location, but do agree with the awesomeness of the sashimi.
I LOVE sashimi and Maru has really fresh and high quality fish. The spicy tuna sashimi is my favorite. Other highlights include spicy chopped scallop cones, and really great salmon and tuna cones (I'm a sucker for cones :)
The atmosphere is very pleasant with the bamboo look, but the service isn't great - depending on the waitress you might be left kinda alone, but some are good.
I've been to Maru with my girlfriend many times and love it... I've tried other places but none have come close so far.
At first I was skeptical going to Maru Sushi as it is kind of in the sketchy area of downtown Langley. The outside of the place is a little bit deciving at first but it looks way nicer inside. There are booths that go on around the restaurant with tables in the middle as well, if you have a large group there is a room that can hold about 10 people.
There is a feel of Japan upon entering, tatami rooms, bamboo, a zen waterfall, with a very nice cozy warm feel all around. Soft music fills the air which makes dining most enjoyable.
The lunchboxes are fantastic, they have a Box A which has miso soup, chicken teriyaki, veggie tempura (four pieces) gyoza, rice and agadeshi tofu all for $7.95 which is a steal. The addition to their complimentary salad is a nice touch too. BC roll is excellent as they have tempura batter mixed in it as it is nice and crunchy. All of the rolls are decently sized as it is not a challenge to eat them. The veggie tempura is fabulous, not greasy and you get yam, sweet potato, and green beans.
Sashimi is of very high quality, fresh and delicious with most pieces starting at $1.25 to $2.25 When getting the more expensive lunch/box combinations you get two pieces of sashimi and the ebi sunimomo.
My only beef is the lack of tea refills, the girl's who work there are very friendly and do their job very well but at times they forget to come back to refill your tea. The best thing to maybe do is ask for a tea pot for you and your group.
