Great place to eat
By Langleydinerguy of Langley, B. C. Canada (1 Review)

Not sure where the other recent reviewers were eating. We have been to this restaurant many times; since it opened, we have eaten here at least once or twice a month for dinner or dim sum. We have not noticed a drop in quality or service. We have never had a negative experience there, even when the restaurant was very full.

Especially given its location in the Valley, the food is traditional and at least as good as many of the better Chinese restaurants in Vancouver.

This is a great place to have authentic dim sum and dinner in Langley. (We're asian so we've had a lot of Chinese food in a lot of restaurants)

Quality Chinese for Langley

My two sons and I moved to the area in 2008, we try to shop, dine, support local as often as possible. Came upon this place by chance, did not expect good quality Chinese in Langley, BC lol:) My boys are no strangers to great restaurants as we have travelled and always make a point of checking out local establishments, and they are not easy to impress. Luxe has definetly become a keeper. We order take-out from there too and the portions are generous and fresh.

Good Dim Sum

Friends & I went to Luxe based on reviews at this website. I was a bit hesitant, because I can be pretty fussy about what's good. Overall, I was very impressed. The restaurant was not crowded at 11 AM on a Sunday, but there were lots of service staff. The room itself is quite airy & pleasant--Chinese without being overpowering.
And the food--fresh, hot where it should be, and very well done. The Ha Gow (Shrimp dumplings) were just right. The Pi-Quat (steamed spareribs) had enough chili & garlic to notice but not so much as to need a fire extiguisher.
The staff were impressed that a white person knew the correct names for most of the items.
My only regret is that none of us had room for the clams in black bean sauce. I'm going back for those!

Overrated due to no competition in Langley

We went there for lunch. The deco is very nice, but we went for food. The dim sum did not taste fresh; we could tell that they were reheated -- the texture of the dumpling was mushy. We have tried dim sum all over the greater Vancouver area, and this place simply fails in comparison in taste and value to other good, authentic dim sum places in Vancouver or Richmond. The choices of dim sum are few and the dim sum is definitely over-priced.

They served us tea and charged us 80 cents per person, without even asking us what kind of tea that we want. Traditionally, for dim sum, we are supposed to choose the type of tea if we are paying for it. The service was okay, average -- we did not feel welcomed but the servers were responsive when we needed help.

It is too bad that there is no dim sum competition nearby, and maybe this is why they can still survive without striving for a better food quality and value. If you are willing to settle for mediocre dim sum and pay a premium for it, this is the place. Otherwise, it is worthwhile to drive out to Vancouver/Richmond for some real dim sum treat with the same price or less expensive.

Best Chinese Food in Langley!

We have been here many times for Dim Sum, and it has to be equal to any Dim Sum restaurant you will find in Richmond or Vancouver! They bring the Dim Sum around on carts, and on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons it's frantic, but the food is fabulous and the service is always friendly and fast. If you don't know what some of the Dim Sum items are, they are happy to explain.

We have also come here a couple times for dinner, and they have all the typical Canadian type Chinese Food such as fried rice, sweet and sour pork, etc, however, if you want a real treat and something outstanding, order the Peking Duck. When we were there they were coming out so fast we could hardly count how many! They carve it at your table, and serve it with crepes and hoi sin sauce. Then they take the rest of the duck, dice it, and serve the remainder with lettuce wrap. Absolutely fabulous!! If you've never had it, don't be afraid to try, it really is delicious.

They also have a fresh seafood tank, although we haven't tried anything from there yet. If you want authentic Chinese food, this is definitely the place to come. Start with the Dim Sum, you won't be disappointed!

i went to Luxe with my boyfriend last week for DIM SUM.

FOOD: very fresh and hot :) i'm chinese canadian and their dim sum is one of the BEST i've ever had in my life! the portions are varied by size which determines its price on the menu (small, medium, large) we had 6 plates/steamed baskets for under $30.00 ... not that bad.

SERVICE: the staff is dressed very nicely, black and white. during weekdays, there is no need to flag them down or be ignored (even if the restaurant is full) the menus are in english as well as chinese and the servers speak fluently in english.

AMBIANCE: the restaurant is fairly modern and formal. the cutlery is clean and the furniture looks really nice. they should play music...

*** the location is in langley which is kind of odd for me because i'm so used to having dim sum in vancouver and richmond but it is so worth it!

Decent Chinese food in Langley? I don't really know the Chinese food scene here, because it's not my neighourhood. I assume that the reviews for this place are a bit inflated due to lack of tasty competition. Still, Luxe isn't too bad. I went for Dim Sum, and if you don't know Dim Sum, look out. They'll give you a menu if you don't know how it works, but otherwise they seem content to just bring around a tray and visually offer you various choices. If you don't know the various shrimp bawls, prawn rolls or rice in banana leaf combos, you might not really know what they're showing you. It's not that their giving terribly bad service or aren't understanding, it's more that they except you to know the game and the rules.

The food's pretty good. Standard dimsum fair, maybe a bit better. Rolls came with a strange vinager sauce that didn't compliment it well. Banana leaf rice and beef was delicious.

Valuewise, it's fairly good. I had a tonne of food over two people, and we only paid 30 after tip. I suppose if you're in Langley and feeling like Chinese, this isn't a bad spot. It certainly isn't "Westernized" if that kind of thing scares you, and the location is clean, the staff is alright, and the dimsum is good. If I'm in the area again and craving Chinese, I may try their dinner menu. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back however; there are equally good options closer to home.

Only decent Chinese food in Langley

When I was introduced to this restaurant, I was relieved that I did not have to drive out to Vancouver or Richmond for decent Chinese food. I have been a regular customer for a few months now for dim sum, and look forward to coming in for dinner when the time is right.

The place is neatly decorated, giving the restaurant a sophisticated and authentic feel to it.

The food is not outstanding, as I suspect that some of the dishes were not made freshly in the kitchen (as opposed buying them frozen from a supplier and steaming them). But as I have tried all the dim sum dishes, I can say it is decent. This place can satisfy my dim sum cravings.

The price for dim sum is a little bit above average, but I'm fine with that, as long as the food, service and fact that I don't have to drive so far, is in tact.

Although I see mainly the same employees every time I am there, I feel that the service is a little bit inconsistent. It may be my imagination but I feel that the staff is less attentive and friendly if I enter in a big t-shirt, sweats and no make up. Today I walked in dressed rather professionally, and received really good service.

Excellant Dim Sum

I have had a few lunches and dinners here and the food has always been consistant and great. Have now gone twice for Dim Sum and its as good as anything I have had anywhere in the lowermainland. Their shrimp dumplings are huge and absolutely delicious. Very nice interior and friendly owner and staff. Yes its a bit pricey but with the high quality level you feel like you got great value when paying the bill.

Its great to see the place busy because you know they aren't going to be going out of the business and we will have a great and rare source of chinese cuisine outside of Richmond and Vancouver.

Tried out this restaurant on the dinehere.ca recommendations. It is a winner. Had the set dinner for 8. Crispy skin chicken was overcooked and the beef with black bean sauce was a little tough but everything else was excellent. Included in the dinner was a lobster and crab with noodle dish that was great. Whenever our side plates had shells in them they were replaced. From talking with the owner/manager we learned this restaurant has been in business for a year and a half. Dining area is quite nice but the restroom looks old and probably left over from a previous establishment. Will I be back? Anytime by brother-in-law Jerome wants to pay I will make the drive from Burnaby.

Best Chinese south of Fraser

This place has become a family favourite. My 11-year old just requested it for her birthday dinner, and I was only too happy to oblige. Everything we've had here has been SOOOOOO much better than any other Chinese place in the area. The flavours are well blended, the rice is aromatic, the tea is plentiful and the portions are huge! Usually we get at least some extra lunches out of a visit there, so the higher-than-average prices are easily justified.

Service one time was a little slow, but in all of our recent visits it has been prompt and friendly. Food comes out as it is cooked -- some things very quickly, others slower -- so plan to share your dishes. It's a pleasant-looking place inside, nicely decorated, but basically one big open dining room, with a large party room attached. If it's crowded, it could be noisy, but it's never been very crowded when we've gone.

Not so good, horrible bathrooms, tasteless food...

The meal for two of us... three regular dishes 40 bucks plus tax, and the dishes are smaller. I can go someone else and pay half that, this place just aren't worth the money to pay so much extra. The dishes are not that flavorful, and pretty much the same as any chinese take out. They gave me five prawns for a prawn and veggie chow mein. The five prawns were under cooked with had no flavor whatsoever, felt like chewing nothing.

But the bathrooms are a joke, they are so bad it is shocking. Its been a year since some else reported on here how bad they were and they are still like that but worse, the toilet was wobbling on the floor so bad that I thought it was going to keel over, and it was the only one that was clean, the tissue paper dispenser fell on top of me when I was getting toilet paper, and then the sinks, very gross and only one worked, please explain how inspections let this go?

Not worth it, first time I dined her, and it will be my last, take the recent ratings on here as truth, I wish I had my time and money back, and read this first, they are not worth it, put these people in the rating they deserve, low!

We have been to this restaurant many times for dim sum...truly the best in the Fraser Valley, possibly even Vancouver. A little bit more expensive than others but worth it as everything appears to be fresh and of good quality. Off the top of my head, I can say that we have tried the sesame balls, custard tarts, spareribs in black bean sauce, the chicken 'claws' (yes, and they are really tasty, lol), squid in curry sauce, deep fried squid, the sticky rice, the prawn spring rolls, sauteed veggies....all were very good.

This is a Chinese restaurant unlike any I've been to in the Valley.

Great decor, great service, great value and most importantly - great food.

We particularly enjoy the Dim Sum (best this side of Richmond). Some highlights for me are sticky rice, shrimp dumplings and the peppery short ribs! They also have a fine (and tasty) selection of fresh seafood.

If you want "authentic" chinese food, this is a great destination for you. Surpriisingly, if you want "western style" chinese food, they do a great job in this regard as well.

Not sure what to order? Ask for their suggestions...they are very helpful and the food they suggested really hit the spot!

Luxe for dim-sum ONLY

Submitted Friday, March 21, 2008 - 3:55am [Dine in]

Im originally from vancouver, and just moved to langley this year and I'm still hunting around for great chinese eateries here ( Miss the ones back home)
First time here, and once I walked in... it was a GREAT first impression! This place is NICE!
We were seated right away, and the first thing you notice is the little dim-sum carts rolling around. Thats how I like to eat my dim-sum... I liked to order what LOOKS good, and not have to wait for it to be cooked. It's on your table once you point to it. SO Far So Good.... then we decided to get some pan-fried dishes. I have to say I've had better elsewhere in Langley. There;s not enough " wok-power" or as we call it in chinese " wok'hay" in the food! The flavor's not there, and it's just very ... bland. It's not HORRIBLE.. but it needs some work. Dim-sum's great! the prices are a little above average... but I guess you pay for the nice ambiance of the restaurant as well. We Had to ask for tea a couple times before we got it, and the bill as well. Hey! if they didnt want us to pay... thats fine with me :)

Over-all.... Recommended for dim-sum only !! Try dinner else-where!

This has been our 3rd visit since we stumbled on fireted's review. Driving out from New West is 100% worth it for this restaurant's dim sum. The decor is very elegant and the food is scrumptious. We particularly enjoy the bbq pork puff pastry and the shark fin dumpling soup is the BEST. We order it anytime we eat dim sum and this place has the best soup and the most delicious dumpling that's filled with goodies. The restaurant is very clean and the server/host, Bill, is exceptional. The soup dumpling and Bill's banter is worth the trip alone.

Filthy bathroom-filthy kitchen??
By mirsy of S. Surrey (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2012 - 11:25pm [Dine in]

I went to the washroom before I ate and was discusted. OMG it was so filthy. No toilet paper, toilet not flushed, only one sink tap worked, no paper towel, the floor was full of dirt everywhere. I was amazed it passed health inspection. I had to go into another stall to get toilet paper and used that to dry my hands after washing! So I wondered how clean the kitchen was???
We had Dim Sum. It was expensive, I had to ask for dipping sauces, the clams were full of sand, the deep fried squid was greasy and tough.
I could NOT recommend this dump. I was there mid week and there were only a few people eating there. Mostly Caucasians and only one Asian... they must know not to eat here!

When you pay...

For those of you who’ve been to luxe, when you ask for the check, do they give you a list of dishes you’ve ordered with price for each one and the total at the bottom?

Because if you go to The Keg or Montana’s, you’ll get a list of dishes with price for each one so you know what have you ordered and the price, but at luxe, they don’t seem to do this. Or this only happens to me?

We ordered some dishes that are not on the menu and asked to see the price on the bill, it’s pricey, and we knew that, the accountant would only showed us a list of dishes WITHOUT price for each and a total at the end. It felt like the person was trying to hide something from us, and the accountant seemed impatient that day for what we’ve asked…. We’re not complaining about the expensive price, because they do have quality food and we know that, but would just like to KNOW HOW MUCH it is and not just paying for something that we don’t know what we’re paying for.

Otherwise, they do have quality food and professional services.

This is my favourite upscale Chinese restaurant outside of Vancouver and Richmond. I have not had a bad meal there, whether it be for dim sum lunch or for dinner. I especially like the Peking duck. The fresh seafood from the tanks are also cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and attentive. The pricing is good for the quality and the service. Highly recommended!

Dim Sum in Langley
By mysheila of Surrey (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 12:09pm [Dine in]

My caucasian "sister" was bugging us to take her our for Dim Sum ... and I was placed with a mission to search for a decent chinese restaurant ... We didn't want to drive into Richmond or Vancouver and so I logged onto the internet and searched. There was not a lot of selections for Surrey/Langely, but I came upon the reviews for Luxe Chinese Seafood Restaurant. I read all 29 reviews and they were all positive except for 1 ... not a bad ratio.
The 3 of us had a bit of trouble locating the restaurant even using map quest and a Garmin, and so I called and was given directions by a friendly staff member that answered the call. When we entered the restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised with the bright decor, cleanliness and ambience. The rolling carts filled with the assortment of dim sum (translation - "touch your heart") was an unexpected treat to see outside of the traditional area of Richmond/Van. We were quickly seated & promptly served refreshing chinese tea and the feast began. The servers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We started with har gow (shrimp dumpling) - they were freshly made and huge, this was followed by beef balls, crsipy egg rolls, bean curd wrap, scallop dumpling, black bean spareribs, crispy wonton shrimp, extra large plate of salty, garlicky deep fried calamari and the piece de resistance – deep fried shrimp balls resembling chicken legs. We washed it down with cold soft drinks served in tall glasses and a twist of lemon. For the 3 of us, we chipped in $20 each for the whole meal, a bit expensive for dim sum, but it was definitely worth it … we tipped handsomely for the quick service and excellent, freshly prepared dishes. It was a great experience and my sister and I don’t have to listen to my Caucasian “sister” - once known as “the pretty one”, changed to “the selfish one” and is now “the evil one” – constant whining of wanting her “bean curd wraps” … We will definitely be back and in fact already have plans for dim sum on March 22, 2009.
Bon appetite everyone!!
