Great Dim Sum!
By waxma of Cloverdale, Surrey (11 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, October 8, 2015 - 9:09pm [Dine in]

Best Dim Sum I have had in a long time! One of my Chinese friends had told me that Luxe was the best place in the area for good Chinese food, and we were not disappointed. The service was quick, friendly and we got all our food at high rate of speed! Everything we had was great, plus the sesame balls for dessert. I read a bad review about the washroom, but I didn't have to use them, so I can't say anything... I will definitely go back.

I don't know what happened to the last few reviewers, but you don't get a line up for bad food etc. took a friend there for dim sum lunch and we could only pack away 4 dishes before giving in. Solid dim sum in large portions no complaints from both of us. The price was what you expect and it came out to just over $20. For Langley that's not bad. I have had dim sum at another place on Fraser hiway in langley I won't mention that paled in comparison. I'd go back for sure. Seems like juding by the line up on a Thursday afternoon other people do to.

Pretty Bad
By royalsam of burnaby (47 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2013 - 1:29pm [Dine in]

Maybe we just get too used to great dim sum at Jade, Fisfermans Terrace and the like that everything else seems mediocre but I don't think that's it. The har gow and tripe were fine, the bean curd barely passable and the beef balls awful and they're my favorute. Like left over undercooked meatloaf the size of a quarter. I didn't finish them for the first time ever. Ambiance is never too relevant in a Chinese restaurant and this was ok. Service was prompt and courteous. Young people trying hard to please. But it's the value or, rather, lack thereof. Unbelievably poor. Sure this is way out in the burbs and you have no other choice etc.. That does not in any fashion justify a bill of almost $21 including tax for the 4 dishes and tea. With tip it's close to $24. For below average food. Maybe the dinner menu would be a better choice. Certainly their dim sum is not an option.

Not so good, horrible bathrooms, tasteless food...
By kc8000 of Langley, BC. (4 Reviews)

The meal for two of us... three regular dishes 40 bucks plus tax, and the dishes are smaller. I can go someone else and pay half that, this place just aren't worth the money to pay so much extra. The dishes are not that flavorful, and pretty much the same as any chinese take out. They gave me five prawns for a prawn and veggie chow mein. The five prawns were under cooked with had no flavor whatsoever, felt like chewing nothing.

But the bathrooms are a joke, they are so bad it is shocking. Its been a year since some else reported on here how bad they were and they are still like that but worse, the toilet was wobbling on the floor so bad that I thought it was going to keel over, and it was the only one that was clean, the tissue paper dispenser fell on top of me when I was getting toilet paper, and then the sinks, very gross and only one worked, please explain how inspections let this go?

Not worth it, first time I dined her, and it will be my last, take the recent ratings on here as truth, I wish I had my time and money back, and read this first, they are not worth it, put these people in the rating they deserve, low!

Filthy bathroom-filthy kitchen??
By mirsy of S. Surrey (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2012 - 11:25pm [Dine in]

I went to the washroom before I ate and was discusted. OMG it was so filthy. No toilet paper, toilet not flushed, only one sink tap worked, no paper towel, the floor was full of dirt everywhere. I was amazed it passed health inspection. I had to go into another stall to get toilet paper and used that to dry my hands after washing! So I wondered how clean the kitchen was???
We had Dim Sum. It was expensive, I had to ask for dipping sauces, the clams were full of sand, the deep fried squid was greasy and tough.
I could NOT recommend this dump. I was there mid week and there were only a few people eating there. Mostly Caucasians and only one Asian... they must know not to eat here!

Went to Luxe the other night nice place. When the waiter came to the table he was very RUDE .I proceeded to order and before each selection I ordered he said YUUUP YUUUUUUUUUUUP .I should have told him how rude he was and left. The food came out not big portions either and soaked in oil or grease the plates were very slimy. Will never go back to such a crappy restaurant! This place should be shut down . Oh ya the prices are approx double of your standard fare chinese restaurant dinner for 4 only 99 dollars what a joke. It will feed 3 people and will still be hungry. Do not go save yourself you been advised

Thier authentic this isn't american chinese food. This is actual chinese food which in Langley is amazing.

Not sure where the other recent reviewers were eating. We have been to this restaurant many times; since it opened, we have eaten here at least once or twice a month for dinner or dim sum. We have not noticed a drop in quality or service. We have never had a negative experience there, even when the restaurant was very full.

Especially given its location in the Valley, the food is traditional and at least as good as many of the better Chinese restaurants in Vancouver.

This is a great place to have authentic dim sum and dinner in Langley. (We're asian so we've had a lot of Chinese food in a lot of restaurants)

I have been to many Chinese Restaurants, this one is worst. First of all, the foods are not fresh; the prices are unbelievably high compared to the similar restaurants. It's family owned, the only concern they seemed to have is to extract more money from customers. Services are horrible too. If you ordered a hot pot, you would bring it cold. Worst of all, they voluntarily deduct their tips, and never bring the changes back to you no matter how much it is. I would never go back to the Restaurant again.

When they first opened, I actually bragged to my friends that there is actually a restaurant out in the burbs with good, authentic Chinese food. After a couple of years, I have gone back for a visit and it has certainly changed! The food tastes no better than what you get at a fast food joint and the portion size is so small for what you pay! I think the positive reviews have gone to their heads and let them think they have the right to rip us off! I will never return as there are now other restaurants nearby with better food and value. Hopefully, Luxe will realize that they now have competition and will work on improving their quality and value!

We had dim sum at Lux yesterday. First of all, the shrimp dumplings were "off". Definitely starting to rot. They tasted funny and I had to spit it out. The other dumplings did not taste fresh either. Really disturbed that they would serve food that is starting to go bad. This was our 3rd visit and each time the food quality went down. Will not return again. It's pretty odd that everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying their food. No taste buds I guess. The Vietnamese place in the same strip mall is excellent.

Decent Chinese food in Langley? I don't really know the Chinese food scene here, because it's not my neighourhood. I assume that the reviews for this place are a bit inflated due to lack of tasty competition. Still, Luxe isn't too bad. I went for Dim Sum, and if you don't know Dim Sum, look out. They'll give you a menu if you don't know how it works, but otherwise they seem content to just bring around a tray and visually offer you various choices. If you don't know the various shrimp bawls, prawn rolls or rice in banana leaf combos, you might not really know what they're showing you. It's not that their giving terribly bad service or aren't understanding, it's more that they except you to know the game and the rules.

The food's pretty good. Standard dimsum fair, maybe a bit better. Rolls came with a strange vinager sauce that didn't compliment it well. Banana leaf rice and beef was delicious.

Valuewise, it's fairly good. I had a tonne of food over two people, and we only paid 30 after tip. I suppose if you're in Langley and feeling like Chinese, this isn't a bad spot. It certainly isn't "Westernized" if that kind of thing scares you, and the location is clean, the staff is alright, and the dimsum is good. If I'm in the area again and craving Chinese, I may try their dinner menu. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back however; there are equally good options closer to home.

Only decent Chinese food in Langley

When I was introduced to this restaurant, I was relieved that I did not have to drive out to Vancouver or Richmond for decent Chinese food. I have been a regular customer for a few months now for dim sum, and look forward to coming in for dinner when the time is right.

The place is neatly decorated, giving the restaurant a sophisticated and authentic feel to it.

The food is not outstanding, as I suspect that some of the dishes were not made freshly in the kitchen (as opposed buying them frozen from a supplier and steaming them). But as I have tried all the dim sum dishes, I can say it is decent. This place can satisfy my dim sum cravings.

The price for dim sum is a little bit above average, but I'm fine with that, as long as the food, service and fact that I don't have to drive so far, is in tact.

Although I see mainly the same employees every time I am there, I feel that the service is a little bit inconsistent. It may be my imagination but I feel that the staff is less attentive and friendly if I enter in a big t-shirt, sweats and no make up. Today I walked in dressed rather professionally, and received really good service.

My two sons and I moved to the area in 2008, we try to shop, dine, support local as often as possible. Came upon this place by chance, did not expect good quality Chinese in Langley, BC lol:) My boys are no strangers to great restaurants as we have travelled and always make a point of checking out local establishments, and they are not easy to impress. Luxe has definetly become a keeper. We order take-out from there too and the portions are generous and fresh.

When you pay...
By moon of Langley (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, February 13, 2010 - 7:20pm [Dine in]

For those of you who’ve been to luxe, when you ask for the check, do they give you a list of dishes you’ve ordered with price for each one and the total at the bottom?

Because if you go to The Keg or Montana’s, you’ll get a list of dishes with price for each one so you know what have you ordered and the price, but at luxe, they don’t seem to do this. Or this only happens to me?

We ordered some dishes that are not on the menu and asked to see the price on the bill, it’s pricey, and we knew that, the accountant would only showed us a list of dishes WITHOUT price for each and a total at the end. It felt like the person was trying to hide something from us, and the accountant seemed impatient that day for what we’ve asked…. We’re not complaining about the expensive price, because they do have quality food and we know that, but would just like to KNOW HOW MUCH it is and not just paying for something that we don’t know what we’re paying for.

Otherwise, they do have quality food and professional services.

The restaurant is well situated in Langley with easy access and free parking. A nice size premises kept very clean with nice decor. Service is first class with pleasant staff ready to serve. The food is fresh, piping hot and very tasty. You don't feel rushed but plenty of time to enjoy your experience. Easy personal pay arrangement when you are ready to leave. I will certainly return and bring my friends along as well.

We went to Luxe today with a party of seven. We were seated promptly and the waiters were very nice. Complimentary tea was given to us at the beginning, so we sat down and relaxed while waiting to order. We ordered several dishes to share and the dishes came one after another. The first dish that came was pork, and I am a vegetarian, but I felt that since I am reviewing, I should try it. The pork was delicious and was gone pretty quickly. After the pork game the prawns with black beans and vegetables. What the menu should have said was vegetables with prawns and black beans because there was a mountain of veggies with some prawns and a little beans. The vegetables were great. The sauce tasted really good and it was very enjoyable. We ordered the prawns stir-fried instead of deep-fried and I regret it. Although, they were good, the prawns would have tasted better deep fried. When I first saw the dish, I thought the prawns were cauliflower because of the shape. I am a non-strict vegetarian, so I took place in the fish eating. After, the prawns, a dish came with vegetables, squid, and shrimp, scallops. The shrimp was good, the squid was okay, and I don't even think the scallops were there. The vegetables were different types from the ones in the previous dish, so they tasted different. After, the seafood dish, we had sweet and sour pork. It was good even though I only had one piece because I am a vegetarian. During all this food, the waiters were really nice. We seemed to have three waiters all focused on our table. They were great and they told jokes. Anyway, we finished off the dinner with chowmein, rice, and a hot and sour soup for myself. The soup was loaded with shrimp and all kinds of things, but the broth tasted funny so I only took a couple of bites. We ordered the chowmein crunchy and that was a mistake because nobody liked it. The rice was so good though because it had egg and vegetables and it was so fresh. All the stuff that I just said was basically our dinner
After the dinner, the waiter surprised me by giving me some cookies and deserts with a birthday candle in it. After all it was my birthday, so I blew out my candle graciously and ate the cookies with some of the complimentary tea. I was very surprised at the service and ambiance. It is a hole in the wall of the outside but beutiful on the inside. The service was great too. Overall, I liked parts of this dinner and didn't like parts. Some dishes were 4/5 and some were 2/5. Also, there was some pretty weird things on the menu like the shark fin soup which I was not daring enough to try. So, in the end, I would reccomend this restaurant to people who are willing to spend money on things that they are not sure that they will like. I liked this restaurant because it was SUPER FRESH and very authentic. Luxe has to be the freshest chinese food that I have ever tasted.

why is it so popular?
By knowmytaste of surrey (12 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, September 11, 2009 - 6:46pm [Dine in]

First of all, I read all the reviews. We came here one evening for dinner. The restaurant was so cold and so noisy for there were kids running around with no supervision from their parents. Not restaurant fault I know.
We ordered the usual dishes like peking duck, appetizer combo, scallops with vegetables, crispy chicken, and more. We were not impressed with the dishes.Peking duck was so so, appetizer came to us in the middle of the meal, doesn;t it usually come at the beginning of the meal. The scallops were very small portion (not even to go around for our table of 8),chicken was over cooked and very dry. The soup was the only decent thing that we ordered. No "wok hay" as one mentioned.
The service wasn't great even.
We have been several times before. It was never my favorite restaurant but there is nothing around this area half decent. It never got any better. so why it is so popular? Every body must have different taste buds or was is a bad night again.
Dim is also very pricy for what you get.
No more for this place for me...

Overrated due to no competition in Langley
By soiepu of Vancouver (16 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 12:10pm [Dine in]

We went there for lunch. The deco is very nice, but we went for food. The dim sum did not taste fresh; we could tell that they were reheated -- the texture of the dumpling was mushy. We have tried dim sum all over the greater Vancouver area, and this place simply fails in comparison in taste and value to other good, authentic dim sum places in Vancouver or Richmond. The choices of dim sum are few and the dim sum is definitely over-priced.

They served us tea and charged us 80 cents per person, without even asking us what kind of tea that we want. Traditionally, for dim sum, we are supposed to choose the type of tea if we are paying for it. The service was okay, average -- we did not feel welcomed but the servers were responsive when we needed help.

It is too bad that there is no dim sum competition nearby, and maybe this is why they can still survive without striving for a better food quality and value. If you are willing to settle for mediocre dim sum and pay a premium for it, this is the place. Otherwise, it is worthwhile to drive out to Vancouver/Richmond for some real dim sum treat with the same price or less expensive.

Friends & I went to Luxe based on reviews at this website. I was a bit hesitant, because I can be pretty fussy about what's good. Overall, I was very impressed. The restaurant was not crowded at 11 AM on a Sunday, but there were lots of service staff. The room itself is quite airy & pleasant--Chinese without being overpowering.
And the food--fresh, hot where it should be, and very well done. The Ha Gow (Shrimp dumplings) were just right. The Pi-Quat (steamed spareribs) had enough chili & garlic to notice but not so much as to need a fire extiguisher.
The staff were impressed that a white person knew the correct names for most of the items.
My only regret is that none of us had room for the clams in black bean sauce. I'm going back for those!
