Kostas serves authentic, home style Greek cuisine. Enjoy live music and belly dancing on the weekends.
Visited on a Tuesay night. An older woman finally seated us after walking past us at the door several times.
I must say I was disappointed in my roast lamb. My wife's souvlaki was okay but by no means fantastic. They had this strange music playing with animal noises in it. Our server was friendly but didn't ask what we thought of our food. The experience was disappointing. We enjoy tasty, authentic Greek food and this place doesn't seem to povide it.
We had a retirement party for a co-worker at this restaurant Nov. 26. There were approximately 50 of us attending, and there was another party of around 20 people going on at the other side of the restaurant. On our side of the restaurant we were packed in like sardines. not much room to move around to socialize with the rest of our group. I must say the place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. My chief complaint, though is about the service. Even though our party was booked well in advance, it did not appear that the management brought in any extra staff. I felt sorry for the who server was run off her feet and started to become rude with people when she was asked for refills of water, coffee or more pita bread. The choices we had for our meal included a salmon dinner, lamb dinner, spanakopita dinner or chicken, beef or lamb souvlaki. By the time the last of us were served our dinner, the first people served had finished their dinners at least an hour before. I waited so long for my salmon dinner that I was ready to chew the arm off the person sitting beside me! I heard there were only 2 cooks in the kitchen, but I didn't see for myself. We were served a small greek salad as a starter, and a basket of pita bread for our table. That was the best part of the whole meal! When my dinner finally arrived in front of me I found the salmon to be somewhat decent, but it was thrown on to the plate with some mushy bland rice and a couple of small chunks of over-cooked potato. Hardly appetizing at all. I ate the salmon and left the rest. Two people at my table ordered the lamb dinner and became ill after eating it. I will never, ever eat at this restaurant again, and judging by my co-workers comments, neither will they. A few of my co-workers say they are going to send a letter of complaint to the management about the food and service. I have thought about doing the same, but I think I will just move on, and hope that management will read this review. Next time we have a retirement party for someone, we will go to Andrea's on 56th Ave.
I went online looking for a nice greek restaurant to dine at with my girlfriends. I checked out dinehere.ca and came upon this greek restaurant. The reviews were okay ..there were a few bad reviews..but my girlfriends and i thought we'd give it a chance and check the place out.
My girlfriends and I were very dissapointed with the service at Kosta's Greek Restaurant. We ordered Martinis and I waited for my drink for an exact 9 mins. I was tired of waiting and asked to have my drink cancelled as it was not even up at the bar yet. My waitress still brought me my drink over and when i had told her that i had cancelled it..she said "No..you cant"
I was in shock.
One of my girlfriend wasnt that hungry and she ordered a small greek salad, while the rest of us ordered soulvaki platters. When our food arrived my girlfriend that odered the salad decided to try some of my food from my pate. She asked the waitress for an extra plate and was given the same. Our drinks werent filled and we werent asked if we were doing okay. The waitress seemed more interested in chatting with the other employees at the bar. When we got our bill we saw that we were charged $7 extra for basically asking for a plate. When we approached the waitress (in a calm manner) to ask about this charge..she stated "you two shared your food so there is a fee of $7." The waitress had a very bad attitude and treated us very poorly. I was acutally quite shocked. If we are going to be charged extra money for taking a few bites off someone elses plate..then we should have been told about this charge. Maybe we would have just ordered another platter. The waitress was waving her hands around and caused a big scene. It was ridiculous. I will never visit this place again and neither will my friends. If you are thinking of trying this restaurant out..pls..look around the area and find another one to visit.
My husband & I decided to give this place a chance for a nice date night. We were seated after a few minutes, ordered immediatly as we knew what we wanted. There were not many tables full, maybe 7.
45 minutes later, we were informed that our food would be out shortly. We still hadn't gotten our starter salads or pita bread.
When we finally got our food, we had to ask for our salads & bread. it had been almost an hour for 2 souvlaki's.
My lamb was overcooked, and tasted like beef jerkey - dry and old. My husbands rice was overcooked, our bread was more than stale - it was like a brick. The salad dressing was flavourless & far more oily than it should have been.
Overall, it was a waste of $35, I would have rather eaten at McDonalds. Our waitress was very nice & polite, but that cannot make up for the poor food quality & time it took to get our meals. Next time, we'll go to Galini's!!
We had take out from kosta's tonight, so I can only comment on the food, not so much the service or restaurant. The food was outstanding!! We had chicken and lamb souvlaki. Everything was very moist and flavorful, and full of garlic. By far one of the best greek food experiences I have had in vancouver.
We went to this place for the first (and last) time when we found a coupon in our Entertainment book. We usually try to try out as many restaurants from the book, so that we get a deal the first time, then can decide if we want to make it a regular date night place.
We found the food excellent, the wine was great, the place a bit small but very nice atmosphere. The issue we had, was, the way the coupon was handled. We brought our children to this place, plus had appies AND wine, so our bill was about $120. Not a cheap night! We were to get one of our main courses taken off, as per the coupon.
Well, instead, they took off one of the appies. The server told us that it only applied if you didn't buy appies, but they take the least priced ITEM off, not meal. It said right on the coupon that if you buy one entree, you get the 2nd for free. Well, apparantly us buying MORE food, actually made us lose the deal.
Couldn't believe that they wouldn't budge on it, so we made sure to tell them that instead of gaining some good paying, probably once a month customers, and probably bringing friends their, due to $10, they lost customers.
Not impressive at all.
My friends and I went here a short while ago, some of us had been there before and thought it was alright the first time, we had a friend visiting town and decided we will go there again, we arrive and are seated immediately which wasn't bad at all, especially when we were a fairly large group. our waiter arrives and asks us what we want to drink, we order and everything is going well, until it came time after we ordered our food. on the menu it states that almost every appetizer and entree comes with sides of pita so we thought for the amount of food we ordered we would have more than plenty of pita for all of us, he brings us the first basket of pita, it only has maybe 3 full pitas cut into 2 slices each, this basket lasts all of maybe 5 minutes and we wanted more, as we have about 3 orders of humus among other things, we ask our waiter when he comes by for more pita he says 'sure no problem' he comes back and in the bowl is 1 and a half pitas, half of what we got last time, this is finished very quickly as well and we haven't even received our entrees yet. we start to get annoyed at the amounts of pita we are receiving and ask him for another basket, he comes by again and we ask for more, he tells us 'ok no problem', he comes back 5 minutes later with again 1 and half pita but this time cut up into 8 tiny pieces, we are like what the hell is this. Finally our entrees arrive and they were average at best, then to make things worse our waiter dissapears for 25 minutes, everyone has empty glasses of water and other drinks we ordered. He eventually comes back and takes everything away and we ask for the bill, when it arrives we take a look at it and see something outrageous, he had the guts to charge us 2.00 per extra baskets of pita, we are astounded, we had ordered 6 entrees and about 8 appetizers, all which came with pita and he had charged us for the minuscule amount we received, we walked out angry, frustrated and annoyed.
And to top it all off there was this awful singer who was just insulting classic music with his pitchless and whiny voice, you couldn't even understand the lyrics he was babbling into the mic most of the time. it was so awful and loud you couldn't even hear the person beside you without having to raise your voice
i will never go to this place again and i wont ever recommend it to anybody, an insult to greek dining.
Coming from a family of greeks, at best the food here can be only rated poor.
The food was very very salty but the service made up for some of it.
We ordered calmari for appetizers and it came out half cooked and very very greasy. Then we ordered the souvlakis: the lamb and beef was tough and the chicken was not quite well done. The tzatziki, I swear they put abit of mayo in it. And the rice was too well cooked and tasted like microwaved Uncle Bens package mix.
Overall this place was not worth the money and should be closed down.
