Yummy indian food!

To date, this is our favourite indian restaurant to eat at in Langley.

I have to admit, it's probably Canadianized Indian food but it works for us!

PROS: the flavour in the dishes, ambience is modern for an indian restaurant
CONS: service was a little slower than a normal establishment (seems family run so probably not enough staff), the dishes seem a little small in portion, meals do NOT come with rice or naan bread, seems a little pricey for the amount of food you get.

In our party was 2 adults and 1 teen. We saw that service seemed a little slow, so for the appetizer, we ordered the cheese naan bread, garlic naan bread, vegetable samosas. The vegetable samosas are at par with the best i've ever had and the naan bread was good.
For the meals, we ordered the Novratana Korma (9 vegetable dish), Buttered Chicken, and Lamb Vindaloo. All of the dishes were good, and it was nice that you could order the level of spice you want - medium really is a good medium. There is alot of items to choose from, and I can't wait to come back again, except maybe order takeout so we can make or own rice!!

Went here based on a few reviews and some word of mouth, both my dining partner and I were fairly disappointed.

The service wasn't great and our server was boasting about how it was her last shift and she was "sooooo excited to get out of here." Real classy.

I thought the food was o.k. It wasn't bad per se but fairly bland for Indian. The portion sizes are tiny so make sure you order a few dishes.

The value isn't good as the prices are a little higher than average and the portions are smaller.

The building is nice, decor is good.

There are better Indian restaurants in Langley for sure.

I know I'm being a bit rough in the title of my review, but I was extremely disappointed with Kismat Indian Cuisine.

First, the waitress seemed a bit of a flake. I believe it is great to explain what is on the menu, but trying to convince me that Biryani is not a side dish was a bit patronizing. Even if I was not familiar with Indian cuisine, I believe the titles on the menu were self-explanatory (I somehow figured that "Large Rice" under the Side Order menu was what I wanted to complement my Chicken Masala).

I was expecting Naan bread with my order....and the bread I got was a very cheap imitation! Naan has an elasticity and texture that is unique. So, I was not happy when the Naan I ordered was basically pita bread, smothered in butter.

One pet peeve of mine is when Indian restaurants like to claim that butter chicken is the same as Chicken Tikka Masala. I have eaten both and they are very different dishes. I was hoping Kismat Indian Cuisine was going to come through with their Chicken Masala and I was pissed with what I got. Yes, I know that there is no standard recipe for Masala, but this was a bit of a reach. It was chicken in tomato sauce. In a good Masala the tomato sauce is not so overpowering. There is a nice balance of flavours between the spices and yogurt. None of that in this dish!

Needless to say, I won't be going back and I would not/don't recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine.

i have only been here 3 times but i know that i will be either coming back to dine in or ordering take-out...the food is so good and i really like the fact that you can order your meal to whatever spice level you want. The service is good and the value is also good. I noticed that they use chicken breast in their dishes and really enjoyed that i didnt have to sift through the sauce and take the fatty pieces out as i have done in the past at different indian restaurants. the decor is really nice for an indian restaurant. i would recommend this place for anyone who wants to try some good indian food at a reasonable price.

Nothing new here. I could find ten better Indian restaurants in Langley. I would have given it decent ratings at first, but after I went there a few times, my satisfaction went down. I tried a very good indian cuisine my value village in langley and it was amazing. I forget what it was called but it really made me lose my appetite for Kismat.

Not worth the price

Went back again to see if the service would be better and if the value for the price would be fair...neither were good. The service was okay, but the value...NOT GOOD:( Four of us went for lunch, and one item we ordered came with three small vegi balls...three SMALL ones! We were the only ones there for lunch, you think they could have at least given us four veggi bags so each of us could get one...I mean the price was over 12.00 for the bowl. All their items are pricey and then on top you have to pay for rice. I mean how much does rice cost...nothing!! Skip this place, the food is tasty but you get great service at Ashoka in downtown langley and they have just as good or better food and they price rice with your mean...rice comes with each dish and they also provide a small bowl of that thin bread. All in all, I will not go back to Kismat...just too frustrating! Too bad, as the food is actually pretty good, but I also value getting value for my $$ and good service is also expected. Kismat...rethink your strategy and you may get more customers.

Bad Food at a Worse Price.
By ryanevans of surrey (1 Review)

I ordered a Tandoori Mixed Grill for my meal with a side of Alu Naan. The Price was 17.95 for the grill and 2.95 for the Naan. This is typical prices for this type of food. When served I was very disappointed. The dish was half the size of what I would expect from this type of meal, consisting of 1 chicken breast, 4 small shrimp, Two inch long Sikh kabobs and two 2 oz pieces of fish all served on a 10 inch plate with a mix of sliced green peppers and onions. None of the items seemed to have been prepared in a tandoori oven. The shrimp were chewy and tasteless. Fish tasted like mould and the chicken seemed to have a touch of freezer burn. One shining note is that the Sikh kabobs were good.

The Alu naan seamed to have no potato in it at all. It was a bit chewy and small.

I complained to the Waitress about the food and she offered to get the owner. The owner said that the ingredients were premium and that was why the cost was what it was. The owner seemed indifferent to my comments and offered us no substitution, discount, or satisfaction, simply stating that the meal was prepared in the proper way.

Best Indian in Langley

This is, by far, the best Indian restaurant in Langley...

My wife and I have been to Kismat about four times now and the food is always fantastic. The shrimp korma is especially worth noting - we end up having it every time we go! Personally, I am not a big butter chicken fan, but the butter chicken at Kismat is excellent and well worth ordering. We have yet to order a dish that we did not like and if you are looking for a place that has the best tasting, creamiest sauceses...look no further.

The only suggestion that I can offer is this - do not go to Kismat if you are in a rush. We have been here on weekends and weekdays and the time between ordering and recieving the food is generally about an hour. But the food is worth it, we just order a drink and settle in ...

The ambiance, for Indian restaurant, is quite nice. Along the same lines as some finer restaurant in Vancouver. Semi-formal wear would not be out of place.

Best Indian Restaurant in Lowermainland

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times now and I c ommute all the way from Kits, which in itself says alot about their food. It's a cozy and clean atmosphere with very friendly staff. Their food is a lot different from some of the places in Surrey and Vancouver that all have a very similar taste after a while. I will definately keep coming back here!!

ALso to add to the "Cashew Allergy" patron...... where was your epi pen?? I agree that any "anaphylactic" allergy deserves the dish being ordered to be questioned. I know that on Kismat's menu it does state which dishes have nuts and which ones don't but you should always ask...especially if your child is DEATHLY allergic!!

Great Food!

Myself and my husband are frequent vistors to this indian restaurant. Although we live in surrey, where there are plenty of indian restaurants, we choose to go to Kismat as the food, ambiance and service are tremendous. Unlike most indian restaurants Kismat Indian Cuisine makes all of their food fresh and you can even choose the spice level at which you want your food to be made. Not to mention they use chicken breast which makes a great difference in the food. The waitresses at the restaurant are very friendly and now know what we eat down to the wine we have with our dinner. They are also very knowledgable about the menu and fluent in english so they are able answer any questions you may have about the menu. Compared to other indian restaurants the price is only a tad higher but i am telling you its worth every penny :)
