I saw this place and hadn't heard about it so I held off from going there. Heard great remarks from friends about it, so i decided to try it one day. I ordered a beef donair. They have many other items, but their donairs are most likely the most popular.
The donairs come with lettuce, tomato and onions, and you can get a hot sauce spread, garlic and tzatziki sauce if you wish. It is stuffed inside a pita and wrapped up. The beef isn't the usual kind. Instead of a ground beef loaf, it is almost like a cut up, slow cooked roast.
The beef donair is delicious. Ive tried the chicken one and it is, in my opinion, even better than the beef. Really tender and flavorful. they put enoguh sauce in it to make it taste excellent. The doanirs are fairly large, and go for $6.30 inc tax. It may be a bit much, but its the same price for a sub from subway. And these are much better
You can tell they tried revamping the place. Nice paint, nice flooring, some new tables. The front counter has all it stiles falling apart, and i have not seen an attempt to fix it.
Really fast service, unless there is a line of course. Friendly staff that get you what you want.
I recommend it to anyone. Very good, small restaurant.
This place is a favourite of myself and a couple dozen other people I work with. I usually pickup lunch for myself and a few others at least 2-3 times a week from here. The food tastes great and the price is amazing for how much you get! For the same price as a 6" sub, you get a much tastier and healthier product. For $2 extra, ask for it super-sized to get way more meat. Regular size or super size, you can't go wrong. I've only tried the chicken in the donairs, but the chicken is so good I've had no desire to try the beef or falafel.
Just don't expect 5-star dining accommodations in the restaurant. They are a small place and only have a few tables. Most people order their food To-Go.
It's cheaper than any local fast food. It tastes so much better than fast food, and it's healthy compared to fast food. Try it!!!
I enjoy eating the donair's at Istanbul Donair, however their complete lack of service outweighs the delight I get in eating one.
Last week there was an employee who continued a personal phone call even though I was waiting at the counter. I had to continue poking my head around the corner looking frustrated for two or three minutes before I heard her whisper that she had to go.
Another time, I was in with my whole family and a different employee was standing at the counter looking down, and soon after we walked in he moved around and started shaving the meat. He did not acknowledge us, we said hello when we came in, we then continued to talk at the counter for four or five minutes before we became irritated enough to outright ask the kid if he was going to help us or not. He just kept his head down and ignored us. His eyes would flit up to see if we were still there. After complaining loudly to each other that this guy was not going to serve us even though we stood at the counter waiting for him that we guessed he was just going to continue ignoring us, we left. There was no one else there that we could complain to. We came back in a few days to tell the manager/owner of our experience and he began arguing with us, saying that he didn't know who we were talking about and then he changed his story to say that the guy didn't work there anymore, and then that he had no idea what we were talking about.
What happened to humoring your customer, if your customer is happy they will keep coming back right? Not the theory with this guy. We walked past the front of the store a few weeks later, and the kid that ignored us was still there working. So not only is the manager rude and unhelpful, he's also a liar who doesn't care if he gets repeat business.
The only positive thing I can say is that after the employee finally got off the phone she washed her hands before touching my food.
I wish they had the option to rate their service a zero, because that is far more appropriate than a 1.
Three strikes and they are out.
