I just think this place has the best Japanese food ever. They have the biggest sushi rolls especially the dynamite roll. I go here often and have tried almost all of the menu. Been going here since it opened. My friends from NY say there is nothing like this place and when they visit this is where I take them. You gotta try it cause you will not be dissapointed! The prices are very reasonable the portions are great. And your mouth will water for more!!!
We live quite nearby Hirame, so we order from there often. They always remember us, and they make the food very quickly. They are great about substitutions, always accomodating. Their sashimi is 5 star, and their sunomono is so yummy. Love this place!
Though I wouldn't call it the Best place in Langley, I would say it's the best place in brookswood.
The restuarant is clean and it outlay looks very nice and authentic. It has a good feel to it.
The service is quick, usually with no more than a 30min wait for food.
The servers are friendly and not afraid to reccomend a good dish to someone who's never has sushi before, or who isn't too thrilled by the idea of raw fish.
The rolls are delicious, if you can I would recomend getting a roll combo to try as many as you can. My 2 personal favs being dynamite rolls (one of the only dynamite rolls covering with the yummy and texturally pleasing salmon roe) and the cowboy roll ( variation on dynamite roll with crunchy covering and served with a slightly spicy sauce). The prices are fair for the quality and the serving that you get, soe things like the ramen bowl or the donburi are HUGE - (come hungry) - whereas the servings or gyoza or tempura arent the largest but still fairly priced.
Very Japanese dishes I recommend (reccomended for expierienced diners of sushi): gomae (spinach with seasme sauch, yummy on top of rolls), and salmon sashimi cone roll (beautiful cut of sushi-grade salon wrapped in nori (seaweed) into shape of a cone)
Beginner sushi dishes I recommend: Tempura, Gyoza, Chicken Tereyaki, Ramen bowl.
Good Value meals: Ramen bowl, donburi, or any of their box meal combos.
A good place to take family, friends, bussiness partners, and even dates. :)
I love Hirame .I always tell everybody how good it is and how I won't go anywhere else because Hirames quality has spoiled me.Well this evening I had ordered take-out for four of us. We bring it back home and 2 items are missing, the tempura and gyoza. We get a call from hirame recognizing their mistake and we got 2 miso soups to compensate, but had to go back to get it. As I was eating my salmon sashimi I felt bones. I took it out of mouth , it was 2 pin bones in my salmon. Very disappointed! I have never had that at any sushi restaurant before and I wouldn't expect that from Hirame. I called to let them know I was upset about it and they offered me 2 extra pieces of salmon sashimi next time I order. In short..it feels like their busyness is taking priority and they are not focusing on quality.I don't think I'll be going back for awhile and its too bad because its been great other than this time.
Impressed, high quality, fresh, exciting menu, a bit pricey but worth it, portions are larger .......... its not your average sushi place. The place is always busy(because its so good!), so the service can be a bit slow at times; if I wanted fast food ide take my kids to macdonalds for cheesburgers.
My wife and I have been coming here for over 3 years. It's our favorite sushi place outside of Richmond/Vancouver. The sashimi is always fresh and delicious. Large variety of rolls, and the portions are very generous. About a year ago they updated the decor and dropped their prices. Since then we've noticed this place has become very popular. During the mid-week it's not too busy and service is friendly and fast. However, on weekends after 6:30pm the place is packed and service can be rather slow. Once food is ordered, it arrives quickly, but there are not enough servers to check in on patrons regularly. When ordering take-out, on a busy night the order takes over 45 min. Yet the price, quality and taste of the food makes up for the service. Our favorites include: prawn tempura, toro sashimi, negitoro roll, yam roll, unagi dynamite roll, chopped scallop roll. Prices are very reasonable with most rolls in the $4-$6 range.
Hirame is a well kept secret hidden away in Brookswood (South Langley). I have been a fan since they opened a few years ago.
I have been a sushi lover since the 80's when the only sushi worth eating was in Richmond at the Hok-Kai Restaurant. This was before Kamei opened and the subsequent proliferation of sushi restaurants in the lower mainland.
Hirame serves huge chunks of fish in their sashimi and nigiri. The fish is ultra fresh and flavourful. They also have over 100 rolls to choose from so there is something for everyone.
I am a big guy who likes to eat and I'm stuffed after finishing a lunch box selection. You have to be careful that you don't order the same volume of food that you'd normally have to order at other sushi restaurants to satisfy your hunger.
I find this place to be a tremendous value and a great place to take your sushi hungry friends from the "city" who are used to paying big bucks for small portions.
My friends' eyes pop open as they say "wow, that's a big chunk of fish".
We also appreciate that we don't have to take our shoes off and crowd into a little room to eat!
Good food - good friends - good times
Hirame is a little out of the way, but if you're in Langley or Cloverdale, definitely worth the drive. Hirame offers a clean atmosphere with good service. On top of offering the normal selection of sushi/sashimi, Hirame also has some very tasty original selections. They offer great size sushi/sashimi and the quality is very good.
If you're looking for good sushi in Langley, or anywhere for that matter, Hirame is the place to go. I go almost every Saturday and I've never had a bad experience. The servers are friendly and attentive, the food is delicious, they have a very cool assortment of rolls, and the plating is artistic. I can't say enough good things about this place!
This place is a bit out of the way, being in Brookswood. Despite that, it's busy for it's size and where it is. The staff are friendly and easy to communicate with. The food is fresh; hot when it should be hot and cold when it should be cold. Their dynamite rools are HUGE!. My dad wasn't a big fan of "sushi" before we went, but even he ended up enjoying the meal. For three people with drinks and dessert it was $60.00, and we ordered a lot of food. The ambiance is average, but it's really the food we were after, so no big deal.
Definately recommend and will go again (and again, and again . . .)
I enjoy eating at this restaurant. The food is delicious, the prices are not high, and the green tea is included with your meal.
I do wish they would get a washroom for handicapped people. The toilets are too low for my friend who has had a knee replacement. For older clients with joint problems, these low toilets could be an issue deciding whether a visit to this restaurant is feasible or not..
We frequent Hirame, mainly for it's convenient location in Brookswood. The food is excellent and the prices decent. The service, however, has been going downhill fast. Twice in the past 3 months we've LEFT because we've waited so long to even be acknowledged, let alone seated. I'm talking waiting 10 minutes with our two young children while they walk past you without even saying "one moment".
Another annoyance I have with Hirame is that when we order they bring our kids' food last every single time. There's been times when we have been close to finished our meals before our son's cali roll has even come (and yes, I've specified which is his when ordering).
Overall, its good food but when I have the time I drive to our fav. sushi joint in Langley, I do!
I've been to Hirame several times and have never been disappointed. I've been there on supposedly quiet nights and it has still been busy so I think that speaks for itself quite nicely.
We're not talking about a high-end and high-priced Sushi restaurant here folks... it's a very good little community restaurant so it wouldn't be fair to judge it against the high-end places.
Personally, rather than rating the food, service, value and ambiance as "solid" and "outstanding" I would much prefer to rate them ALL as "very good" (well, perhaps the ambiance would be just "good") and I think that's fair. The decor is pleasant enough (much better than the cafeteria decor I've experienced in other similarly priced sushi restaurants) but the buzz of conversation and the polite serving staff create a nice vibe. It's friendly and relaxed... not stuffy.
They've got a "very good" menu (they don't mind substitutions) and the balance between quality, portion size and price is really "very good". The hot food is hot, the cold food is cold, it's tastey and well plated.
I've taken a few friends there (including those who supposedly don't like sushi) and everyone has enjoyed it and said they would certainly dine there again.
So yes, if you're looking for a good value-for-the-money dinner in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this is a "very good" choice. :)
I drove out of my way to try Haname' sushi, and I probably wouldn't drive so far again. I ordered the dynamite roll and it was large, but the price reflects its size. I would say that the taste was decent, not spectacular, so in total I would say it is good.
Ambiance is forced a bit, and the service was pleasant. The menus are detailed.
