Well worth the visit

Have been a few times, once during the week and it was packed, was lucky to find a table. Once on the weekend and it was slow. I would think that more people might find there way out here for these sandwiches. I appreciate the choice between lean and marbled with the smoked meat sandwiches, go marbled every time. Such a beutiful texture and taste as the teeth just glide through the meat. The light rye bread perfect accents it. My only complaint is that it is so far away, but it is worth the visit every time.

Smoked Meat is the best

We went there for lunch, had two medium 'classic' Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, and split an order of fries. The sandwiches were very good, haven't had smoked meat like that in ages, very tasty, sliced just right and piled high. Fries were also tasty, finished off with seasoned salt. They have other sandwiches available, we will be back again, to try something else, will have to leave room for dessert next time.

A Pleasant Surprise in Langley
By G-Shumway of Langley (19 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, May 29, 2012 - 10:02am [Take-out]

Went to Estrella's for the first time the other day. I tried the classic smoked meat sandwich, and was VERY happy. I've tried some other places in Vancouver (kosher delis, etc) and hands down, Estrellas is the best. Surprised? I am too. The meat was juicy and tender (no chewy/fatty bits), and the fries were pretty good too. I did take out, the deli is pretty small so if you want a seat you'll want to get there early to beat the lunch rush.
Prices are very reasonable, I'll be going back to try some of the paninis very soon.

Went to Estrella's due to the high number of positive comments and thought I would add my own. Had lunch there and the home made soup was excellent and so was the panini I had. The ambiance isn't that great, but the food was very good and very filling. I couldn't finish my lunch. When in the area I definately will go back!

Montreal Smoked Meat in Langley BC

While I was visiting Montreal I had the opportunity to taste the Montreal's best Schwartz's Restaurant Smoked Beef Sandwich and the meat just melted in my mouth and it was the best tasting sandwich that I had ever eaten.

I did some research on the internet and discovered a restaurant in Lower mainland located in Langley which serves an identical smoked beef sandwich. Just like the Schwartz in Montreal this restaurant is located in a run down area, very limited seating where you will probably share a table if you can find one

I ordered their classic smoked beef sandwich with medium (not rare) meat for $8.99 and the sandwich was so delicious and mouth-watering with buttery tender meat that no words can do justice to the culinary experience that I enjoyed

The location is very tricky to find, so be prepared to get lost but when you find the place you will thank yourself for the effort

Thanks

I haven't had a good Montreal smoked meat sandwich in a long time and this hit the spot beyond! Portions are hearty, meat is juicy, rye is a little thinner than I like, but still toasted/warmed to perfection.
The location is not the best, but easily overlooked given the quality of the product offered. The "deli" atmosphere was captured, and again, the only negative thing i the location.
Once the order was taken, we sat down and had our sandwiches brought to us in minutes with a smile - you can't beat that!
I'm recommending that my office use them for lunch meetings from now on.

There is nothing better anywhere!

I have travelled from coast to coast and have eaten in Montreal's finest. Schwartz's, The Main, Pete's Meat (related to The Main), Briskets, Snowden Deli, the old and now gone Ben's, Dunn's, and a large number of others around the island.

I have had smoked meat in Toronto at Centre Street Deli (related to Snowdon Deli in Montreal), the Pickle Barrel, The Corned Beef House, Dunn's (gone thankfully and not the REAL Dunn's in Montreal which is great, by the way), a place that tried to copy Wilensky's (the famous Special) on I think Adelaide or King and it was good, and a few others.

Then there was Michel's in Saskatoon. Another in St. John New Brunswick... a couple in Calgary, including Cafe Metro (now gone) (not even close to the real thing and everyone raved about them!) and another with the name Pickle in it I think, My Marvin's and another greasy place that sells steamies near the airport called King of Subs.

Then Vancouver.

Okay, let's see here. Annie's. Sorry. Compare champagne to Baby Duck and you're close there when comparing to Estrella's. Estrella's is Champagne.

Then Kaplan's. Please. Not even close. Phat's in Yaletown. Nope. Not even close to close. European Deli on Davie. Uh uh. And the deli on Cambie and Broadway... sorry. Not authentic.

Costco. Yup, they sell Dunn's in a package. That's better than all the restaurants named above... as it comes from the REAL Dunn's... not the imitation stuff that was in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto

There is only ONE outside of Montreal that is as authentic as it gets and it IS Estrella's.

If you know Montreal Smoked Meat and have had the real thing (only a few places now serve it in Montreal... Schwartz's, The Main, Pete's Meat, THAT's what you'll get at Estrella's.

Oh and for my fellow Smoked Meat snobs from Montreal who may be reading this and scoffing... ha! Try it. You'll see what I mean.

One more thing. Real Cole Slaw (not the creamy stuff), real Pickles... (Mrs Whyte's and Putters), Karnatzel (those who know will know), Cheese Cake and real Montreal fries (yes, he makes it and it's great)... and the rest of his food is just as good.

No he's not paying me to say this either.

If you LOVE Montreal Smoked Meat, just go to Estrella's. Just go. Then enjoy. Then carefully re-roll your eyes from the back your heads!

Bon Appetit!

Best Smoked Meat west of Montreal

The heading says it all..I have lived in Montreal for over 40 years and Estrella's Smoked meat sandwich is the best in the west.
I have tried many other places in the Vancouver area that specialize in Montreal smoked meat, and nothing comes close.
Estrella's knows how to steam and cut the excellently-flavoured brisket they use..which makes it even more excellent.
I travel 30 k each way just to eat there...they would easily be in the top 5 in Montreal!

Best Tasting & Most Unique Panini's EVER
By SerenityForever of Langley (2 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, September 13, 2007 - 12:29pm [Dine in]

The first time I tried this place I fell in love, best panini's ever. The vegetarian panini has grilled eggplant, and caramelized onions, it is amazing. No one else makes panini's like this! I have brought several friends here for lunch and every time they are hesitant at first as I doesn't look like much from outside but once they take a bite of their panini they are hooked! This restaurant should be turned into a franchise, I'd buy one!

Ambiance and service are standard but it's the food that make this one!

I've been going to this little cafe since it first opened. The quality has been phenominal since day one. They prepare everything themselves. Even their smoked meat is made the old fashioned way and not purchased in pouches like everywhere else. This is the real deal for you Montreal Smoked Meat lovers.

And for those who just like a good sandwhich, the Panini's are fantastic! My personal favorite, the Turkey Roasted Red pepper is piled with tons of turkey and is packed with flavor. No lettuce here, spinach adds a fantastic texture and unique flavor, and the crunchy panini really seals the deal. The large dill pickle included is a tasty, crunchy specimen. Next time give this a try, squeeze the juice from your pickle into your sandwhich... adds a little bit of extra kick to an already tasty sandwhich. Mike Estrella puts only the finest ingredients into his food and is passionate about the quality of what they serve. Even the soups are made from scratch!

Almost everyone I've brought to Estrella's loves it! I know I do, and I'm sure you will too! Give it a try, it's kind of a local secret!
