Waited 45 minutes for Food...yeah...
By kaskwatch of Vancouver (6 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, November 5, 2013 - 9:11pm [Dine in]

Normally going out to this place has been a good experience, but we came on a Sunday night one time. We had just gotten there before the dinner rush and because we were there about 4:45?, we had thought that service would be reasonable. It took about 15 minutes for a waiter/ waitress to take our order. Then suddenly ,of course, there was a dinner rush.
The most unreasonable wait I have had in a restaurant was on this Sunday, 45 minutes.
I really did not feel like writing a bad review but there was yet a few more problems.
As I observed, 3 other tables of people, who arrived AFTER we had been there for now, an hour, got served their food FIRST. I had gotten ready to leave when my partner said to wait.
It was a very disrespectful gesture to us.
I was dressed up and ready to have a nice dinner, but felt this wait was unreasonable.
When we got our dinner, it was cold. the only thing hot was the rice... so meanwhile 3 other tables of people (who had arrived 20 minutes after we had been there, got served first), we had cold cold food.
the only good thing was getting free tea. that was about it.
I mean I understand they were busy, but it seemed understaffed and they should bring in more people to work the weekends maybe? And prioritizing your order of orders is such a basic business practice....
the quality was just not there that night and we both felt really unappreciated
It took a "quick" 10 minutes for a different waitress to fetch our bill, just because they wanted to seat more people (of course) and didn't thank us at the end either.
It was brutal. I won't be returning unfortunately.
I can get better Asian food downtown Burnaby, and within an hour we could have gone to Burnaby....

Average Chinese

Went on a busy night before Christmas. It was very busy but we got a table in 5 mintues. It was however very wobblly and not fun to eat off of. Wait staff barely spoke english and waiter could not read the English portion of the menu so when i pointed and showed what i wanted it did not work. Diffcult to order. We asked for a veg fried rice and after much discussion we were to get one with green beans in it. It ended up with peas not green beans. doesn't all fried rice have peas?

Food was ok but a little too chinese for me without souding ignorant. I prefer westernize chinese food. THe fried rice was good, the egg rolls were acutally spring rolls and VERY greasy. THe beef and broccoli was not good and the broccoli was not crisp fried, but raw almost. Deep fried tofu in black bean was ok too but I;ve had better fried tofu.

All in all it was ok but I would not return.

Really great chinese food in Langley

Moving to the area so we scouted out the restaurant. I'm thankful that we've found a great chinese food spot! There is a great selection of dishes that range from not really authentic to very authentic so there's something for everyone. They offer a good combo menu but I loved the fish hot pot and the rice cakes. Everything we ordered was delicious. Will definitely be back.

WOW. Went here for the first time a couple nights ago. What great service. These guys really know their stuff! My GF ordered the Hot and Sour Soup to start. I always thought it looked kinda scary ;) Well its AMAZING. Such a mixture of amazing flavors. I am now craving it! We ordered the Beef Brisket and Radish Hot Pot (I would never have EVER ordered it myself) to the suggestion of the waiter and it was super. Meat was the most tender beef I have ever had. I ordered a combo meal and have posted a pic. There was enough food for dinner and a couple lunches! Again, service is outstanding and the restaurant is very clean. Fresh seafood tank looked great and they had a great sale on crab! Thats what we will do next! Try this place! You will not be disapointed. Check out my photos.

I love Sim Sum in Empire Garden.

Dim Sum in Langley. Doesn't roll of the tongue very well does it? Actually, there is the occasional steamed duck tongues available at some Dim Sum joints... Anyways, some people might consider Dim Sum in Langley to be an oxymoron of sorts. Or maybe just plain moronic to think that is possible. Hey, don't be so quick to judge though. My last foray into "chain restaurant" central yielded not only acceptable Dim Sum; but pretty good one at that. I'm not joking. Really! That was at Luxe, which is really Surrey/Langley rather than outright Langley. This time around, we were determined to find some more Dim Sum out here. In fact, it would be at a restaurant we have previously visited. Last time, we had a relatively decent dinner at Empire Garden .

The kids didn't care since they proceeded to scoop the inside only. Well, it is always a victory when the kiddies eat and cause as little disruption as possible. In terms of the Dim Sum here, it is pretty good, especially for Langley. If you weren't paying attention, the restaurant could pass for something in Vancouver or even *gasp* Richmond. Nothing extraordinary; but it does hold its own. The prices are on the higher side which is a reflection of the restaurant itself. The decor is nice and the service is fairly good. But, if one wanted Dim Sum in the area, I still prefer Luxe since it is less expensive and has comparable, if not better Dim Sum. The push carts at Luxe are also a novelty if you prefer that. Now the real challenge is to find a 3rd place in Langley that serves decent Dim Sum. Stay tuned...

Under New Management
By weezie of langley (4 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, September 6, 2012 - 9:49am [Dine in]

We've been eating here for a few years now and have always had an excellent experience. However, recently they underwent a management change and while you expect there to be some growing pains, it has been long enough to see that their basic quality is going down. We've been back a few times now since the change and each visit has been successively less impressive.

The service, while never overwhelming, is now quite slow and sullen. We don't usually manage to get a smile from whoever our server of the evening is until near the end of the meal. Not a big deal, but part of a trend. Where the restaurant was usually quite full before, it's slowly getting emptier. Their take-out business seems to be solid still, and that seems to be where their focus is, although my own experience was not good, ending with having to go back to work with no lunch at all because they were so slow and full of excuses. If you eat in, be prepared to hear the telephones, front and back, ringing LOUDLY. I guess it's important to get those take-out orders, since that's all the business they're doing now.

To the food - very inconsistent - even on a single plate of squid. Some was cooked perfectly, some far overdone and still others quite raw! The teppan platter is supposed to come with filet mignon but it looked and tasted more like mystery meat the last time. The noodles we ordered were definitely a smaller portion than we've ever been served before. And finally, the peking duck - always a stand out, and still possibly the best thing on the menu... I have no complaints about that except for the carving. I'm sorry Raymond, you just looked like an amateur hacking away at it. No finesse at all and we ended up with very large pieces that left us feeling short-changed as each of the five of us were lucky if we even got two bites. Best of luck in the future. We'll be missing this place until we hear there has been some kind of turn-around.

Its fesh, but good? nope

There food looks fresh, but saying Awesome food? nope, I still go there once in a while with my family only because I am at Langley, but there are better choices out there for Chinese food.

I never pay too much attention to the service since I was so busy chatting with others, but what I don't like about the food is that there is not outstanding enough for the place.

I've order chop suey, chow mein, and BBQ duck.....and more, however I didn't order the "crispy" chow mien, I order the pan fried, which is real contonese style, that the noodle is soft mainly and a bit crispy edge.

I would Not go back if I have too. If without family, I would go fork n chopstix, however, that place is not that ambiance if thats the one of your concern

I live in Vancouver and normally would never head over the bridge to eat szechuan, but I was invited to Empire Gardens by a family member years ago, now its the szechuan restaurant I bring all my friends too! I usually have to explain why we're heading to Langley for dinner, but never have to explain myself once we're there.Great food, selection and the service is like visiting family! You have try it, you won't regret it!

Best Chinese Food I have Had
By smokey99 of Abbotsford BC (1 Review)
Submitted Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 1:10pm [Dine in]

I have been there several times in the last few months and have to say, it is without a doubt the best Chinese food I have ever had.

The service was always fast and friendly and the restaurant is new and tastefully decorated.
The food is incredible, I had orange beef one time and the flavour JUMPED out, absolutely great!
I also loved their ginger beef, and Moo Shu pork.

I have gone back with several friends on a number of occasions and everyone loved it.

I don't understand some of the bad reviews I read on here, they can't be talking about the same place, or maybe its the competition, either way I highly recommend this restaurant.

Not constantly good, but one of the best chinese restaurants in Langley!

I've been to Empire Garden quite a few times now. The ambiance is quite nice and whenever I go there it seems to be clean. The restaurant is never full, so I can't imagine how people can be sat at dirty tables. My rating is based on the good times I've been there, although last time the service wasn't too good but on the other end of things it was THE BEST hot and sour soup i've ever had (i've had it many times at Empire Garden, but this one was the best ever). It seems that if the owner isn't there, the service isn't as good, which is normal I guess.
Some of the items aren't super good. Last time we were there we ordered the crispy chow mein but there was so much sauce that it wasn't really crispy at all. And I'll never order a hot pot from there again. But Empire Garden is the spot we go to for DimSum, as they make it fresh when you order (unlike the roll-cart type, where it's been sitting around) and my spouse swears by the deep fried prawn pockets. Overall it's our place to go when we're feeling like chinese food.

Food is whatever

We wanted to go for dim sum but got there too late. We ordered some lunch items such as crab claw, fish maw soup with crab and a noodle dish. Everything was over salted even my husband who uses soya on all his food said it was salty even for him. It just killed any flavor whatsoever. The portion wasn't worth the price we paid either.
The place is modern with linen tablecloth which is a plus. The lady owner came over and said hello.
First impression wasn't so good so maybe go there and try dim sum only to see if it is any better.

Worst Chinese restaurant in Langley
By ADinnerFromBC of Langley (12 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 3:35pm [Dine in]

The only thing good I can say about the place is their decoration. Unfortunately that's not what I am going to eat.

The ingredient of the food is pretty poor. Take one example, their sea food porridge, all what you can see in the dish is rice and water. If you really want to find out why it is called sea food porridge, dig hard, but well, doesn;t matter how hard you dig, you won't find sea food. This is just oen example, the whole point is that, this is one of those restaurant that makes money by using less real stuff.

The service is poor, and I never saw the waitress smile. You know what, at least pretend that you like your customers, but they don\t bother even to pretend, oh well.

The value is absolutely the worst, among all the restaurants I tried in Langley area. Absolutely pricey, plus like I said above, pricey with not much real stuffs.

Good Food and Value

Empire Garden Chinese is definitely good food...some of the items are not as good such as the deep fried prawns...way too battered.

But the combos for one are HUGE and a great value. Not the best Chinese out there, but definitely not the worst either.

Worth a try if you're looking for a decent meal for a good price.

This is THE place for chinese food

The new location on 88th avenue...the first word I can say is WOW.
We sat down, and ordered our food. We didn't have to wait too long, maybe about ten minutes or so. It was piping hot. We ordered the following:

small wor wonton soup (it didn't look small to us) yum, yum.

dinner for one with almond chicken, beef & broccoli & chickn chow mein & egg roll.

dinner for one with deep fried prawn, swwet & sour pork, chicken chow mein and egg roll.

we also ordered roasted spicy squid with pepper salt, and half a duck.

This food was magnificent. Both dinner-for-one plates were abundant with food, so much so that I got a lot of it to take home, as did my husband.

We ate most of the duck, took some of that home too. The squids, we ate many of, but the food was all so filling that we took some of those home too.

Of course, the wor wonton was so full of wontons, chicken, beef, pork, squid, whitefish and veggies that it was probably the culprit that filled us up.

We are going to eat here...again and again!
