We tried this place on recommendation of a friend. While the food WAS good, I have a few other complaints with my experience:
-they were out of one of the dishes I wanted
-they would not take the Entertainment book coupon: said they are not supposed to be in the book at all
-I had the food on my lap driving home: oil leaked through the bottom of the paper bag and onto my jeans
-the food is costily than at all of the other Indian places I've ever been to
-small portion sizes (except for the samosas)
All in all, we will not go back.
I love East Indian food, and this place was pretty good in comparison to many places I've been.
The buffet, even though there was not a huge selection, was still good value for lunch, and the food tasted really good.
I find good East Indian food places hard to find... and this place will see me again.
this place has THE BEST food. my husband and I go here all the time, and have never been disappointed. Everything is really fresh tasting and obviously made in house, from scratch. Our first time there we were so complimentary of the food that they brought us through the kitchen for a little tour of their special indian oven and made us some naan bread to take home. i can't resist the chicken Korma, it's so good and a great non-spicy option. their naan bread is delicious and they make a great tandori chicken. prices are really great too, the 2 of us can have a satisfying meal with an appetizer for close to $30, give or take a little. wish they had a better alcoholic selection. would be nice to have an indian beer with our food, or a decent glass of wine but you don't really need it. the food's good enough. haven't tried the famous lunch buffet but i've heard its great.
During the week, East India Grill has a $10.00 buffet with different meat selections as well as rice, naan bread, salads and a whole host of other foods. Although its not fancy, it is definitely delicious and worth every cent. Dinner in the evenings is delicious as well. Definitely the best naan bread I've tasted. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Indian food to definitely try this place. The decor is plain, but again... can't beat the food.
A solid, great tasting and price/value meal was had by all. From the outside it's not that fancy of a restraunt, the decor is simple and clean, but the FOOD STANDS ON ITS OWN. Very well seasoned, portioned, and served hot and fresh. My wife and I had one of the best meals we have had since moving to Langley here. The Tandoori Chicken is out of this world and the curries are earth shattering in flavour and variety.
Well Done East India Grill
The also have a salad bar and small buffet on for Lunch !
Considering other Indian places that I've eaten at, I need to reconsider the star ratings on this review. I'm downgrading them, because I really wouldn't return there. I'd sooner eat poutine at New York Fries. I'll leave what I wrote before:
It seems to be a pattern that restaurant buffets are not real high in quality, and this restaurant is no exception. I have been here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times have come away disappointed. The food is just not that great. Everything is either underspiced or spiced wrong. The rich, full flavours that one can find at good Indian places are just absent. The buffet offers decent value in the sense that you can eat as much as you want, but if it's quality Indian food you want, there are better places to get it.
This place, in Surrey, would have too much competition to do well. The food is nothing special, if you know how good Indian food can really be. The service when I was there (a while back) was indifferent at best. If you read the restaurant closure guide issued by the Fraser Health Authority, you will notice that these people have been cited for unhygenic kitchen conditions. Not very appetizing.
I've only been to the East India Grill for the lunch-time buffet (which happens to be all-you-can-eat) and I've always found it to be a solid choice for quality and value in that regard.
The buffet selection isn't huge but it's good for both meat and vegetable dishes, it's hot, tastey and the serving dishes always seem to be topped up. I must note that there's no lack of meat in the dishes that are supposed to have meat in them... you don't need to dig to find what you're looking for.
Most people in the restaurant at that time of day are there for the buffet, so there's not a lot of service to rate but the bread and water are quick to arrive and they do keep an eye on the serving trays.
I'll keep going back for lunch every few weeks, it's a nice change from the normal North American fare.
I have been there a few times. The first couple times I was a bit disapointed but the last time it was pretty good. My parents go there regularly and enjoy it. The owner is quite friendly and we usually have good conversations with the waitresses. The food is good but nothing special. I will definately go back but it is not worth going way out of your way for. I usually avoid Indian buffet so I haven't tried it there...
We really enjoy the food at the East India Grill. Try the Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan or their Samosas. Everything we have tried has been delicious. The owner is very accomodating and his family has been restaurantuers forever. DELICIOUS... CLEAN... GREAT SERVICE... Ask for Sonny the owner for suggestions if you are new to Indian Cuisine.
Always take out, always very good. Service excellent. No complaints. Love the garlic Naan and butter chicken. Tandori good also. I have to write more or else this review will not be accepted as it was less than 300 characters.. it is very annoying as I have said all I wish to say, but want to leave a good review for this restaurant.
