C & U is our favorite restaurant in the Vancouver area. The food is ALWAYS great. The spring rolls are the best anywhere. The woners are pleasant and work hard to satisfy their customers. I recommend this place to everybody I know. I can't say enough about how tasty the food is.
We were aiming for Emily's Lebanese Deli and, to our chagrin, discovered it is closed on Tuesdays. Whoops. On a whim, I went to my nav system and looked for restaurants near Emily's. We like Vietnamese and decided to check it out.
My companion enjoyed the grilled pork lunch special - two very thin slices of marinated pork, with fried rice and an egg roll.
I opted for the pho with the sliced beef. The broth was flavorful, the beef was tender, and the appropriate garnishments were first at the table: cilantro, lime, bean sprouts, lettuce. Chili sauce in a squeeze bottle on the table.
The owner was very friendly and cordial and we laughed when we discovered that we live about 4 blocks from each other in Burnsville! That was pretty funny.
We look forward to a return trip to check out their chicken with lemongrass
We have been going to this restaurant for about a year now. The owners are a great couple named Jenny and Eric. They are very welcoming and the booths there are very comfortable. I think the stirfrys with chicken and tofu are excellent. The egg rolls are also excellent. The sauces for the dishes are made in house by Eric and he does a great job. So many places just throw in a bought sauce and a couple of veggies and that is it. He cuts up many vegetables into smaller sizes and then adds his tastey sauces to them. The prices are a tad higher than a run of the mill stirfry but they are so much better.
Best spring rolls period. I can't order them anywhere else, because I'm always disappointed. Hot & sour soup is to di for too. You can definately tell this is a family restaurant. The owner/server always makes me feel welcome & at home with his great sense of humor. The food is always great & if I'm not sure what to order (other than spring rolls) I'm never dissapointed with his suggestions.
Highly reccomended for a casual dinner.
All we wanted was light, quick dinner on a saturday night before watching a movie.
What we got instead, was insulted, wrong meals, cold food, oily food and wrong bill.
Our drinks never arrived, even after asking more than 4 times, our spring rolls were cold and dripping in grease and when we complained we got a 2 minute tirade and lecture on HOW we wouldn't know good Vietnamese food if we were in Vietnam.
We decided to cut our losses and just pay up and leave, but the bill the waiter/host drew up was bogus and wrong. We got charged for 2 drinks each and food we never ordered or received. When we debated the fact that "THIS IS WHAT YOU ATE" a customer a another table came up and stated, that the bill was theirs and they got our bill. AFter much shouting and lecturing, we arrived at a mutual deal, that they tear up the bill and we NEVER eat or step foot in there again.
That works for us.
Did I mention, that the people who got our bill also had to fight to get a correct bill !
This is a place my friends and I always enjoy eating at. Strangley enough, the great tasting food and incomparable valus make up for the lack of service and ambiance.
Unlike some of the other reviews, I don't find the service rude or obnoxious, it's just not good service. The ambiance is that of a 80's diner.
The food taste and value make up for it in my books. Best Spring rolls anywhere and the rest is always consistent and tasty.
Great food at a great price is all a hungry guy can ask for.
I have been eating at this restaurant for the last couple of years and I have to say that the food is absolutely outstanding. No complaints there at all! If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, this is not the place for you - even on a week night. The reason I say that is because the owner of the place is very loud and has conversations with patrons in the middle of the restaurant so everyone can hear. Now, I am not complaining because I do like the very casual atmosphere and he does have a great sense of humor, but I can see how a lot of people might be offended by his loud and sometimes obnoxious behavior. I find that when we go there it's like the patrons are part of a family and we can all sit and have conversation together. The ambiance of the place is very out of date, but if you are looking for great food, the ambiance is secondary. Excellent value.
This is our favorite restaurant in BC and has been for about 6 years. The food is consistently awesome with tons of flavor. The owner is honest, authentic, funny and likes to give a few jabs in a playful way. The place would not be the same without him. The service is simple, yet efficient. Not a very big place, which on weekends may cause a wait. They have a loyal customer base. As everybody else has stated, the springrolls are unmatched. Anybody complaining about this place should get their nose out of the air and come down to earth. We should be so lucky to have more restaurants like this in town.
As a long time customer of this establishment (from the time when they were still in Guildford Mall!), I cannot recommend it. The food is passable, but the more Vietnamese restaurants I eat at, the less interesting this place is. And the service has become unforgivably rude. Call for takeout and get hung up on? Get told you cannot have what you would like for no real reason? Call for directions to the restaurant and get a lecture?? Forget about asking for extra *anything*, regardless of what you're willing to pay. You get what they want to give you, and that's the end of it. Save your money and try somewhere else. In the long run, you'll be happy you did.
We walked in about a year ago and decided to stay and give it a try. We haven't stop going back regularly, as well as ordering out. The place is not much to look at but the food is outstanding. The owner makes you feel very welcome and if you don't know what to order just ask him. He will explain each dish and suggest yummy combinations. We have never been disappointed in over a year. Make sure you try the spring rolls they are famous in Langley. One of the most popular dishes is the Vietnamese salad #25, we really like it with the chicken.
Al...keep up the good work. Great place for lunch and EVERYTHING on the menu is special. Be prepared to become addicted and spend your next 30 lunches there. After which you will find your favourites and return for those every week or so...I even started taking out to satify a craving.
See you so Al.
