overpriced flavorless cupcakes

I decided to try these cupcakes again hoping they would be better but I found them to be very expensive, and after trying a red velvet cupcake was very dissapointed with their flavor. They were dry and didn't have much flavor. They are not worth the money... Safeway has better gourmet cupcakes for a reasonable price.

Over-hyped soul-less fakery

Big City Cupcakes has a big marketing budget. These cupcakes are over-hyped. I stopped in to the new Langley location. Apparently it's a franchise. The strip mall it's located in is still partially under construction and you couldn't even directly turn into their entrance, I had to detour to get to the place. They also had a confusing sign on their double doors, stating something like please use the other entrance or door with an arrow pointing to the left. All that sign meant was to use the door beside it, but it would be more simple and effective to communicate that with a sign directly on the door that they wished to be used with an arrow pointing downwards. Or the classy way would be simply to have the open sign on the door that they wish the customer to use, if it's such a hassle to leave both side by side doors unlocked. Why do I bring this up? It just highlights the lack of simplicity and common sense that this place has. The owner(?)/cashier was one of those tall, skeletal, glacial, blondes who looked like she hadn't eaten even one cupcake in her whole life. There was NO smell of baking in the place, as they don't even bake their cupcakes there! I'm confused as to their claims that they use no preservatives in their products. There must be preservatives or more likely a tonne of butter to preserve moisture and "freshness" as these cupcakes are baked centrally and then delivered to various locations. These cupcakes are extremely pricey. I came here for the filled cupcakes, as it's not offered by the other cupcake stores. These are tasty and decadent, the truffle one is worth the splurge. However, it's so rich I can only eat a small amount of the cupcake. At the time I went there were only full size cupcakes they might have sold out of the mini ones. Overall though I don't like this place. Original Cupcakes bakes cupcakes fresh daily and whatever they have left over they sell at a reduced price the next day, so you know that whatever you buy there is fresh from that day. They also bake in-store. Frostings Cupcakery down the street is comparable in price to Original Cupcakes and they smell like a bakery as well. They are also super generous with frosting. I find Big City Cupcakes are too expensive. While they do offer novel filled cupcakes, I don't think the product justifies the prices. I just don't like the idea of a bakery that doesn't bake onsite when it's a product like cupcakes that should be baked on-site. I want tempting wafts of vanilla, and sugar and butter before I purchase a cupcake. I want to see bakers, with aprons, that look like they eat and enjoy baking. In fact the design of this retail outlet wasn't even reminiscent of a bakery, it was almost more like a jewellry store, all of the diffrent flavours of cupcakes are under glass showcases. I didn't like that.
