Great Thai restaurant in Langley
By Huge of Surrey (139 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, May 8, 2014 - 11:18am [Dine in]

Went here for a special occasion and was not disappointed. Read the reviews from other dinehere reviewers and for the most they were spot on. We ordered the sweet and sour snapper, the pad thai and panang curry pork with some white rice as the side dish. Better half ordered the mango alcohol drink which was tasty. All the dishes came out on unique plates. The sweet and sour snapper had a dish shaped like a fish. The panang curry pork came out on a triangle dish. The dishes were well presented and smelled even better. The food was all hot and fresh. Very satisfied with the taste and smell of the dishes. The price for the dishes are a little above the average for thai food, but you are paying for the ambiance and the whole experience. The service was good and attentive for the most part, they can forget small things like water and hot sauce, but to their defense they were busy doing takeouts and serving others. Overall, I was very happy with the restaurant and would recommend to others.

Groupon dinner voucher

Used a $30.00 groupon voucher tonight. I am pretty sure the portions given to groupon customers are quite a bit smaller. Large soup, 2 entrees, and a Thai sticky rice $41.00 before discount. Just as hungry after dinner as when I went in. Saw plates of food going past that seemed humongous compared to my pitiful portions. Nothing wrong with the food good taste and colourful presentation. Only the quantity is being questioned. Service was a little slow which was apologized for by the waitress. Restroom is small but clean. Restaurant is small with about 50 seats. No parking lot and very limited street parking.

Thai at it's best

Submitted Tuesday, May 15, 2012 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

I think the last reviewer Amythist is crazy. This excellent Thai restaurant is NOT expensive. It's more reasonably priced than most Thai (usually actually Chinese masquerading as Thai) restaurants. The woman that runs it is actually from Thailand, as are her staff. They use authentic Thai ingredients such as Keffir lime leaves, tamarind, lemongrass, thai basil, Asian eggplant...etc.... something you don't find very often in Thai restaurants. The portions are very generous. I really don't understand how anyone can say that they aren't. Just look at the pictures of their dishes on this website (dinehere.ca). I have tried every Thai restaurant in Vancouver and the lower mainland and this is the most authentic Thai restaurant I've discovered. I drive from White Rock several times a week just to pick up food from them. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice modern feel to it. The food is beautifully presented and is delicious...... seriously! I think the best part is the service though. The waitresses are all very hard working and are so very nice. Parking is not at all a nightmare since there is a huge parking lot (free) right across the street where the Army and Navy and IGA are located.

Little Gem in Langley

So this is my second time posting for this restaurant, if you look you can see that my original posting wasn't that favourable.

Since that time, I have ordered here a couple of times and I have to admit, it's pretty good Thai food. There are a couple of Thai restaurants in Langley but this is THE spot we go to get a Thai fix.

I will never ordered another salad there, as I find it over priced, but everything else is just lovely. The service is good (mind you it was never busy when we were there), the ambiance is quaint and cute. The quality of food is similar to what you could find in Vancouver, so we're pretty lucky to have a restaurant like this around the suburbs.

Decided to give Ban Chok Dee Thai, a try after reading the reviews on Dine Here.

We both had our lunch hours free this fine Thursday, so we met up for lunch. The decor of this quaint eatery is warm and very inviting, the host/waiter was very friendly and always there to refill our water glasses. We both took advantage of the 8.99 Lunch specials to "TRY" the food.

We were served a small bowl of frozen mixed Cauliflower and Broccoli cooked to mush in chicken stock as our starter soup.....No hot and soup soup........

Our specials arrived a few minutes later, She had the L5- Green Curry with veg and pork, I had L2 Pad Kra Pao with chicken.

Her Green curry was SOOOOOOO sweet it could have been served for desert, rice was fluffy, the srping roll was sitting in a pool of water compliments of the lettuce salad on the plate so she didn't eat it as it was a soggy mess.

My Pad Kra Pao, was ok...Not great or good, but ok.....Rather taste less and bland and the chicken had that boiled in water taste. My salad was just a few pieces of iceburg lettuce and carrot slivers with no dressing what so ever. My wife wasn't missing anything by skipping the spring roll as this too was ok, but tasteless.

All in all, it was OK, but not great or good or worthy of a repeat visit.

Your mileage may vary....

Ban Chok Dee-liscious .

I reviewed this restaurant in 2012 and it had some issues. It wasn't great for brining kids in terms of wait time.

I have given ban Chok Dee-Liscious another try and am very glad I did.

I have a toddler and they managed to take our order ,have our food to us, eat ,paid and ready to be on our way in 45 minutes. I noted there were lots of couples on dates so they are also likely sensitive to you wanting to take your time and enjoy the romantic moment.

The food was delicious and prepared to order..ie. no spice on the dish I asked for no spice and medium spice for my wife who likes her food spicy.

The Thai sticky rice was great.

The greeter, usher really made a Thai impression complete with a perfect Thai Smile.....you will have to visit for yourself to figure out what I mean by this.

If you like Thai food or would like to try something different this is definitely a good option:)

I overheard one table had driven in from chilliwack for the food and were very happy they had.

Thank you to the Management and Ownership for having worked on this and turned it into a Gem. It's definitely worth the drive and an asset to our community.

Thank you

Great Thai food!

We went here tonight and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and of the service. Though prices were a little high, we left feeling satisfied and that we had gotten a good value for our money. The spring rolls were Fabulous and piping hot (great sauce served with them!), the free shrimp chips with peanut sauce were a great starter, and our green curry dish was great. Pad Thai was also good; only complaint is that the prawns were overcooked and a bit tough. The banana dessert was Amazing!!! Definitely recommended. Service was friendly and water always replenished. We will definitely go back to this restaurant.

Excellent Thai

My girlfriend and I love to try a lot of different ethnic foods and Thai is definitely one of our favourites. We had heard this place had great Thai food so we went one evening and weren't disappointed. We had the chicken sautays (spelling?) to start and they were fantastic. We ordered a number of different dishes and everything was really good (I especially recall the ginger chicken being outstanding). The jasmine rice was perfect and the portions were a good size. For dessert we had some sort of banana-ice-cream-crepe thingy and it was awesome. For Thai food I would say the price is on the higher side but it's really, really good so maybe that evens things out in the end. We'll definitely go back soon as we had a really enjoyable evening at this restaurant.

Ripped off @ takeout
By cmx_baby of Coquitlam (38 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 3:41pm [Dine in]

Before I begin this review, I have to say that I was RIPPED OFF. On their takeout menu & website it says "10% off takeout orders" so I just assumed that it would be given. I paid as usual, no receipt was given, but I felt it was a little high so when I got home I calculated how much it would cost and there was no discount given. So if you order takeout, watch out!!!

That aside, I ordered 3 dishes: Papaya salad, Chicken Pad Se-ieu, and Chicken Pad Prik-Khing (no peppers, only green beans). At $11.99, I thought that all of the salads were overpriced, but I thought I'd give it a try anyways cuz maybe the portion was extra large. Actually everything was $11.99 which is a little overpriced for Langley and I thought that paying extra to get prawns instead of beef/chicken was ridiculous since alot of restaurants offer it for free.

Let me tell you, I like all of my food spicey whenever possible, i really do, but the Papaya salad was so spicy that it was inedible. The Pad Sei-ieu was alright but could use a little more sauce or flavour, and the pad prik-khing was the best dish, it was really yummy, the flavour of the sauce was really good so we poured the sauce on the pad sei-ieu!

I guess we'll try it again but dine-in this time so we can talk to them if we have an issues!!

This is a fantastic little Thai restaurant in downtown Langley. The place is nicely decorated, and the servers are warm and friendly. My wife and I have are regulars diners and have tried several of the dishes on the menu (and have always been very satisfied). Some of our favorites include: Papaya Pok Pok salad, red curry pork, pad thai, and the BBQ duck with lychee. The prices reflect the taste and quality of the food: a dinner for two with appy and 3 main dishes costs about $50. For best value, try the 9$ lunch special which includes an appy, salad, main dish, rice and dessert. I'm getting hungry just thinking of the wonderful smells and tastes of this gem in Langley!

Another Grouponer
By danlicious of New West (2 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, January 19, 2011 - 5:01pm [Dine in]

My daughter and I were in Langley on other business and decided to take advantage of the Groupon I had purchased for this restaurant and have lunch.
The place was very clean and inviting. The parking is somewhat confusing until you realize there is parking available across the street in the mall lot as well as behind the building.
We opted to order from the menu rather than the lunch specials and had Pad Ped Jungle, Chok Dee Pad Thai (w/prawns), Power Greens in Peanut Sauce and Coconut Jasmine Rice. While we waited we received a dish of shrimp chips and peanut dip that were very tasty. Everything was fresh and delicious. We ate way more than we should have and still had enough left over to take home for a decent meal the next day. Service was very good and the owner Piranya was very friendly and appreciative of our business. I will definitely return and recommend anyone who loves Thai food to give it a try.
I don't understand comments about the amount of food on the plates as I am wary of this whenever trying new restaurants and did not feel that way, at all, here.

Let's begin by saying this is my absolute favourite thai restaurant. Anywhere. I have not found food of this quality in Vancouver or Toronto. Everything that I have tried is fresh and so tasty. They have the most delicious pad thai and chicken spring rolls. The girls are so sweet and make you feel extremely welcome. Fanta is such a gem and bends over backwards. She makes you feel like family. Whenever I am in Langley I always come here. Thank you for providing Langley with such a wonderful thai restaurant! I only wish you were in White Rock!

Great Thai!

Found this place on this website and decided to give it a shot. To our surprise, it was completely empty when we arrived - hopefully more people discover this restaurant and keep them in business.

We tried the Thai Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Red Curry with beef, and one of the chef's specials, BBQ Duck Lychee - all were delicious. We chose a "Level 3" spiciness for our meals and, while my wife found it to be good level for her, I, being a big fan of spicy food, could have easily gone to a level 4, or perhaps even level 5. The spring rolls were tasty, and came sliced in halves, making it easier to share. The satay was very good, though the chicken was a bit tough compared to what we're used to. The red curry was well-spiced and creamy, and there was a good amount of meat-to-vegetable ratio - a must for me. The duck dish was mildly sweet and fruity, thanks to the pieces of real lychee, and was actually a curry, which we didn't expect, as it wasn't noted on the menu.

It was a great dining experience, and we'll definitely be back.
My wife and I are big fans of Leela Thai in White Rock, and it's great to finally have a Thai restaurant in Langley that we like just as much!

I'll Be Coming Back Ban Chok Dee Thai!

Submitted Friday, December 11, 2009 - 2:04pm [Dine in]

This place is pretty delicious! I read the reviews in dinehere.ca and decided to try it out myself. I got my lunch specials "to go" and both the yellow and red curries were absolutely delicious! And the value $8.99 is a great deal! I have a thing for Thai and am always on the lookout for restaurants that are both good in value and food. This place ranks pretty high on my list, now. I'm hooked.

I loved my "to go" lunch so much on Tuesday that I ended up going for dinner that same evening....the Panang Curry (which is part of their dinner menu)is pretty yummy, too! And the restaurant staff is genuinely friendly and warm. Our water glasses were always filled and the staff was always smiling, making sure that we were enjoying our food and service.

I still need to try their desserts...I've heard wonders about the fried banana w/ ice-cream. I've also heard that they'll be adding a new dessert w/ bananas, chocolate, and thai style pancakes -- which sounds amazing!!

Since lunch/dinner on Tuesday, I've been back for lunch on Thursday and just finished having lunch at Ban Chok Dee Thai, again, today. Like I said, I have an addiction for Thai....and now, it is becoming clear that I'll be coming back to Ban Chok Dee Thai often.

Eight of us went to Ban Chok Dee yesterday for lunch and since then we just could not stop talking about how great everything was. The service was great, they kept our water glasses full which you don’t quite expect when you sit down for a lunch special. We all ordered from the lunch menu and we were pleasantly surprised how quickly the delicious soup arrived. Soon we were finished, our main course came with a great presentation. Something you don’t get unless you sit down at a fine dining restaurant for dinner. One of our meals was a touch late than the rest and they kindly brought us an extra dish to share. We thought that was awesome! Then we ordered two fried bananas with ice cream, and oh my gosh!!! It was heavenly. Beautifully presented and we could perfectly share them within the eight of us. They brought us 8 plates and 8 forks, which you would not expect when you are getting a lunch special… Plates, glasses and tables (everything) was very clean... I always check. They actually used clothes napkins, which again, brings me back to fine dining. Overall experience was great and we have been promoting this restaurant in our office. It’s funny, because we mentioned that we all work together in an office close by and next thing we know, they sent us sample food to our office….get ready people! This place is going to get really busy soon and will need reservation to dine there! ;-)

We tryed this place for the 1st time and enjoyed it very much . The food had good taste and was served to us hot and with nice presentation. The place is easy to find in Langley and has also lots of parking right across the street in the mall parking lot . If its a warm night you can even sit out and enjoy the patio. The menu gives you a great selection of Thai food along with good prices. There are lots of tables and room , so if you had a big group it wold be no problem . We will be back.

The food tasted good, but the portion size was ridiculously small. We had lunch special -- rice, a spring roll, about 3 tablespoonful of food (very greasy), and a very small and simple salad (a few lettuce), for $8.99 + tax + tips. It was not a filling meal. The service was slow but the server did apologize.

I liked the food, but was shocked by how much everything cost and on some dishes how little you got. Parking was a nightmare. Service was fair the washrooms were clean but for the price I could have gone to a really nice restraunt. We wont be going back. Which is a shame because authentic food in langley is nice.

I had never had Tai food before, as I was always unsure of what it really was like. A friend of mine invited me to Ban Chok for dinner, and I was super impressed. You can tell right away it is an authentic Thai restaurant from the decor. I wasn't sure what to get as I had never had Tai food before, so the waiter made a recommendation that sounded good. Long story short, the appetizers where the best of any asian food I have ever had, and the curry I got was delicious! I was thrilled to have left overs, and enjoy everything again the next day!

I am planning on going back out to Langley with my family just for Ban Chok Dee very soon.

THANKS!

Uncomparable Food & Fast Friendly Service

This was the absolutely best meal out that my partner and I have eaten. The food was fresh and of top quality. It was expertly prepared with sauces prepared from scratch. The presentation was simply amazing... complete with carved vegetable flowers.

While you can probably find a less expensive place to eat, Ban Chok Dee offers outstanding value for money. The food is top notch and worth much more than the menu price in my opinion.

The friendly servers were dressed in traditional Thai outfits that really added to the experience. Each took the time to chat with us and discuss our spice tolerance before making menu suggestions. Even the water glasses were kept full - another big plus for me!

We will be back often. PS. The fried bananas with gelato isa to-die-for good ending to a perfect night out!
