I have to admit, I was incredibly disappointed. I read some reviews that the butter chicken was incredible, so being the butter chicken addict I am, I could not WAIT to head over to Langley and try some. One day I happened to be in the neighbourhood and went to Ashoka to order some butter chicken and I have to tell you... it was not THAT good. I'm not saying it was terrible or anything, just that it was incredibly mediocre. It had a very acidic flavour and was not smooth and buttery tasting at ALL. Even the blah buffet Mehfil (Scott Road and 96th) has way better butter chicken than Ashoka. By the way, if you want a decent butter chicken for a good price, try Tasty Sweets (80th on Scott Road). Unfortuntely, I will never go to Ashoka's again. Not until they change their butter chicken recipe. Their prices are also kind of steep, compared to other similar restaurants.
First time ever going to this restaurant. I will say the waitress made it easy to order as we told her it was our first time trying Indian food. She gladly helped pick out our dinner. we had Butter chicken, Prawns Biryani and a garlic Naan. Also ask how hot we would like it. we ordered Medium. I will say this it was our first time here and will return again for dinner. Only tried it because of finding the other reveiws here.
1st Visit here. The decor is awful ,there is so much more could be done. The old crib board on the window sill ( we had a window seat ) made me think OLD and WARN...almost cobwebs. The woman that served us were somewhat attentive , at no time were we rushed. But the food is awsum. I had the Lamb Vindaloo, my partner the butter chicken. The portions are generous. The suggestion of "Raj" Beer I'll be back soon
This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Langley! We visited the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The chicken Tikka Masala is among the best I have ever tasted. My Wifes chicken curry was really good to.
Having eaten at two other Indian restaurants in Langley I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Indian food. Don't bother with the Bombay Bite, and don't even think about feeding anyone in your family, including your dog, at the East India grill, just bypass them both and go straight to Ashoka, you will not be disappointed!
OK, I'll make it short and sweet and to the point: DELICIOUS food! Outstanding. We have had the butter chicken, chicken tikka, and chicken tikka masala, all incredible. The Naan bread is to die for. Homemade and authentic, and reasonably priced! A gem on the one-way in downtown Langley!! YUM
My lover and I usually order take out from here as the restaurant is very small and fairly uninspiring... that being said it is a decent place to sit down with friends and it's always busy.
The butter chicken here is as good as most reviewers have mentioned, but my favourite dish here is the Rogan Josh. I like spicy food, and I like to order 'spicy' here. When you order spicy, it's obvioulsy not traditionaly spicy but 'dumbed' down a little.
Their naan is awesome as well!
The value here is great and they also have an entertainment coupon. Best Indian food in Langley in my opinion.
Just got home for another excellent dinner at Ashoka. When we first arrived around 6:30 the place was empty, but an hour later is was full and I can see why. We ordered a mushroom and pea dish, chicken dish and prawn currey dish...all excellent and they come with bowls of rice and the naan bread....also excellent. I have eated at the Indian Rest a few times in Walnut Grove-Kitsmat...also good, but WAY over priced, they don't serve rice or any of that thin flat bread. If you want good indian food...go only to Ashoka!
We have been here several times over the last couple of years & have enjoyed good food & good service every time. There are fancier East Indian Restaurants, there are bigger ones, but this suits me fine. It's home cooking south Asian style. It's also nice to eat on Fraser Hwy & walk up & down. Relaxed & informal. Keep it up.
I went to Ashoka Indian Restaurant yesterday with my family. Our experience was terrible. Not only the food was very poor the service and staff's attitude was rude and un-friendly. We ordered a Kofta Lajawab, Raita and Onion Kulchas. The Kofta curry was tasteless and was just filled with chilli poweder. Its difficult to find such tasteless indian food in Canada.
But when we tatsed the raita it was stinking spoilt. We could not even eat a spoon ful. We complained about it and the rude lady who was serving us said she will check it with the chef. She came back and said the raita is absolutely fine. Thats it. End of the argument. She did not even wait for our reply and left. And she of coursed charged us for it.
This experience did not only leave a bad taste in our mouths (raita-wise) but also we will never ever go back to this restaurant that does not care about their customer feedback.
The raita was only a $2.50 - she could have easily taken it off our bill if we complained even if they felt it was okay (can't help their poor standards)
I just moved to Canada from the US and the service in the Indian restaurants in the US is so good that this place does not even compare. in the US they respect the customers so much that if you say that a dish is not upto mark (too spicy, too sweet) they will change it.
Anyways - for now...I still need to eat in some more Indian restaurant to make a strong opinion about them in Canada. I would definitely not recommend this one to anyone at all.
Save your bucks guys...!!
Food is OK, not anything to rave about, usually do take-out as the wait staff is uninterested and unhelpful...seriously! if I wanted to hand out cash AND be treated so ungraciously I would visit my Family. I will give them a solid for food because a good friend who can cook recommended them originally. Ashoka is alright, I am sure others did have a better experience.. not me and up until last night I had been several different times for dinners.
I ordered a samosa and there was hair inside it. I requested a new dish to replace this but the waitress told me no. I was outraged to see why I had to pay for food with hair in it. the washroom is very dirty as well. there was urine all over the floor and the water from the tap was dark brown. I hate this restaurant and I hate the food. Never coming back here ever again.
I love well made east indian food. This place is the place to go when visiting old langley.
The appy platter had a little of everything the mint sauce is good on its own.
I tried the josh rogan, tender lamb pieces in a wicked sauce with basmati rice and some garlic naan. I was one happy camper. Tried their special house beer Cobra, very tasty and minimal fizz. And to finish the meal off a mango lassi shake which is perfect after some spicey lamb.
Highly recommend visiting, try the cobra .... tasty beer.
Hands down the best Indian food in the Langley area. The service is excellent, and the food is fresh and delicious. I would love to see some feature items, but other than that, I couldn't ask for more.
I work just down the road and often go for buffet lunch, which is usually really good, and offers a nice variety of dishes. Great price too.
We absolutely enjoy this restaurant every time. Their mid-day buffet is an excellent deal for about $8 (take-out a full box of food for less $).
They are always well-attended at dinner time. It seems the owner(s) are usually at the restaurant to serve & cook. We take out-of-town guests here frequently. Their Lamb Paratha (yogurt sauce) is a favourite with our family, as well as their eggplant dish (something from Northern Italy).
A nice dinner is slightly over $10-15 a head.
The service at Ashoka is great. The servers are very attentive with constant refills of water - important for spicy Indian food. I have eaten here a few times and I find that the quality of food has decreased, however, it is still pretty good. I have just had better Indian at other restuarants.
