Having eaten here many times over the years, it is with pleasure that I submit this review. We have never had a bad meal at this ABC restaurant. The food is always delivered quickly, hot and fresh, and is good value for the money. Staff are friendly and approachable. Only drawback is not the restaurant's fault at all, but that you have to enter through the doors of the attached hotel, which always seems to smell of mold. Not a great first impression, but can't fault the restaurant.
The breakfast items are always wonderful. Try the eggs benedict!
My fiancee and I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions. They offer a very good deal (1/2 off second meal when you stay at one of the neighboring hotels) and the food is decent.
In the past, I have simply mentioned that I am staying at the hotel and they have no issue offering the discount. However this past weekend, we visited the restaurant and mentioned we were staying at Canada's Best Value Inn but had not checked into the hotel yet. The server said she would need to see our room key to allow the discount on the second meal. I mentioned we were about to check into the hotel after eating and showed her our confirmed reservation on my iPhone. She said she would have to check with her manager and proceeded to take our order.
A few minutes later, the owner of the restaurant came by our table and very rudely told us that they could not honor the discount without a room key. The confirmed reservation was not enough -- which is ludicrous because anyone can walk away from the hotel without returning a room key. I offered to show the owner the confirmed reservation and he said that was not good enough.
At that point, we were so shocked and disillusioned with the poor customer service we picked up our coats and left. It was very obvious we would never return to this establishment.
Well, the story does not end there. As we are walking out, the owner literally comes chasing after us. I turn expecting an apology and an offer to honor the discount. However, instead, the owner, again very rudely and angrily, asks us to pay for our drinks (we had two waters and a cup of coffee which we never tasted). I turned and told the owner that we had visited his establishment on numerous occasions and how disappointed I was with the attitude and courtesy he was offering us. Yes, I paid the $2.35 for a coffee I never drank and the incredibly poor service and attitude. Yes, I could have returned 10 minutes later with a room key and caused a fuss... but what was the point?!
I will never return to this restaurant and I fully explained the situation to the hotel where they informed us of this offer. I am taking the time to add this review to let others visiting this restaurant know how they will be viewed by the very ignorant and angry owner if they ever visit.
