We decided to grab a quick mid day bite while in the area doing errands.
What we found was a super dirty table, table cloth, chairs and cutlery.
Order was taken right away, but what came was not what we ordered.
2nd try was cold and looked like it had been thrown on the plate, with sauce all over the sides and bottom, food hanging over the edges.
we didnt stay any longer, we simply got up and left.. We were quickly followed out by the owner who started screaming at us for not paying, and after I told her point blank that we would not pay for food that we didn't eat and perhaps she should call the police while we called the Health Dept., she turned and simply walked away.
STEER CLEAR, god only know if the dining area was that bad, what the kitchen would be like.
Last night my wife, a friend of ours, and I decided to head back to Ozark's Famous Bar BQ. We had been there once last year and were impressed but found it a little pricey for our budget. Last night we were pleasantly surprised. Although it was very busy we were seated in about 15 minutes. A couple of minutes later our drink orders were taken.
It was very loud because there was a large B'day party going on a couple of tables away. There is nothing the management can do about that and I have been a part of one of these parties in the past as well so we ignored it and had fun ourselves.
Upon reading the menu we found that the prices hade been reduced by $5 for a full rack of Baby Back Ribs (MMmmm my favourite). The last time we were here there was no corn bread but to our surprise the waitress dropped off a basket of corn bread that was quite good. (I am not a corn bread fan but found this to be quite palatable). The ribs were amazing and definitely better than the ribs we had last weekend at Memphis Blues in south surrey and also at a more reasonable price. I had read some of the reviews on this site before we went and found that almost everything that people had complained about had been remedied so obviously the management is reading this site and learning from it.
To the management of Ozark's I commend you on being responsive to your patrons wishes and thank you for the best ribs in BC. See you again SOON!
I dined at the Waterstone over a year ago and promised I would never return, however my better half persuaded me to try again. I was amazed at the change, greeted when I entered, promptly seated by a happy and energetic hostess. Waitress came within 30 seconds, and was very pleasant (very different from my previous time at the Waterstone). What really made it exceptional (a 5 star rating) this time was the fact a manager stopped by the table and checked on us personally. Such an improvement from my last visit. He also explained there will be some drastic changes in the next couple of months. I lived in the US for several years and to see a high standard of service reminds me of my time in the US.
Keep making the improvements, and I will be back!! I can't wait for May!
This is my regular takeaway pizza joint - really tasty pizza, generous toppings and interesting flavours. In a world filled with bad chain pizza places, it is refreshing to have a small BC owned chain restaurant (I believe they have a couple of other locations in Surrey) that serves good pizza - no more pan fried greasy poor quality pizza for us.
I have never eaten in the restaurant but they serve Greek and Italian foods. The menu hasn't tempted me to eat these items, and the ambiance isn't enough to entice me not to take my pizza home. But we order from here very regularly and is the best pizza we have found in Langley at an affordable price.
Service is always prompt and friendly, the pizza is great and they give a discount for pick-up. I am so happy Ocean Park Pizza is close by to where I live!
I stopped by the Planet Java 50s cafe this afternoon, hoping for a great burger and fries. From the street the cafe looks like an authentic 50s joint, but once inside we noticed all the jukeboxes said 'temporarily out of service' (and we suspect have said this for a long time), and the material on the booths and chairs were ripped and generally tired and worn. The place itself is shabby, but not in a shabby chic way. The walls are crammed with memorabilia - OK if it was all relevant but 70s mustang posters don't really fit the bill.
My friend and I both ordered burgers (I had the Elvis cheeseburger, he had the Jerry Lee double bacon cheeseburger) and we were disappointed that the only choice of sides were tortilla chips, salad or potato salad. Unusual not to serve fries, so we ordered the potato salad.
Our food came very quickly which was the first clue that something was up . . . a freshly grilled burger couldn't be cooked that fast. They tasted OK, nothing special but not bad, but we began chatting about how we felt they had been precooked and just reheated when ordered. Then we heard a microwave ping and joked that they were microwaved. Then the penny dropped as we poked our head into the kitchen area - there were no cooking appliances in the kitchen! Just a couple microwaves and a kettle from the looks of it. No wonder there was no hot food, aside from burgers and a few daily specials, or fries etc on the menu!
To be fair, the potato salad was very tasty, although was served in balls using an ice cream scoop which made us feel like we were at a buffet or canteen.
So we left feeling rather short changed about our experience. It wasn't cheap (not expensive, but not worth the price) especially as you could walk a few steps down the street and have a freshly prepared burger at Beatniks with hot fresh fries. All in all, very odd, and I remain deeply suspicious of a cafe without a stove or grill!
My two sons and I moved to the area in 2008, we try to shop, dine, support local as often as possible. Came upon this place by chance, did not expect good quality Chinese in Langley, BC lol:) My boys are no strangers to great restaurants as we have travelled and always make a point of checking out local establishments, and they are not easy to impress. Luxe has definetly become a keeper. We order take-out from there too and the portions are generous and fresh.
My friend and I went on a Wednesday night for dinner. We decided to give this restaurant a try as we were craving for something like U-Grill. So after we scooped out whatever we wanted to eat, my boyfriend's bowl came up to $25 (which was almost filled to the top) and mine (which was half full) came up to $18. I can't believe how pricey this place is! We could've went to a chinese restaurant and had more variety for the same price. When the food came out, it was only "ok". I had terriyaki sauce on mine and it didn't even taste like terriyaki..it was way too salty. My friend had different sauces combined (following the sauce recipe they had at the food bar) and it tasted horrible! All I can say is that next time I'm just gonna go to metrotown and eat at U-Grill instead..which is cheaper and way tastier.
A little 20 seat restaurant in a small strip mall. Service was a little slow as there is only 1 waitress. Tables are very close together so that I felt crammed in. Food was delicious. You could tell there was some pride in putting out a good product. I was there on a Monday night and besides being quite busy there was a lot of pickup orders. A little on the expensive side but the quality justified the price. Restroom was clean and in good order. This is a place I would return to again.
I guess some people care less about the Olympics. I was at Damiko last Friday night when the Hockey was on. I thought it was nice that the waitress brought her own laptop just to put the hockey on for her customers. My neighbor introduced Damiko to me and I am enjoying their sushi. I think my entire neighbor going to Damiko for sushi now. Every time I visit Damiko, the waitress and the waiter are kind and caring. They seemed to know most of their customers and even remembers what their regular menus are. Their specialty rolls are the best! Good quality and excellent presentation. Damiko is always busy and sometimes I will have to wait 10 to 20 minutes to have my sushi on my table. But I think it's pretty minor compare to how busy they are and the sushi they make. Highly recommended.
Have been coming here for years and the coffee is always great. The iced coffee is delicious. Have also eaten here a few times and the food is really delicious; their turkey on focaccia bread is amazing and yummy. The service is always cheerful, manager happy to accomodate you. However, one negative would have to be the shorter hours since the new owners took the reigns - they close extremely early in the evenings now. Perhaps they will open later in the summer - I hope so. :o)
Service, menu offerings, and food quality seem to have gone downhill in the years since we started coming here. The menu has been scaled back and the last two times we were unable to get the mozzarella sticks - such a shame as they were delicious.
I really just wanted to say don't go in with high expectations and you won't be disappointed. OH - IMPORTANT - the fries are "bottomless" but you have to order them in advance. The server does not submit the order for 5 minutes after you request them (probably a portion control thing) so as soon as your food arrives, ask for more fries. You may get them when you're finished your meal.
My friend and myself planned to go for sushi last night, and I decided to look at dinehere and find a new sushi place to try for the first time. Since this restaurant had a rating of 4.5 stars I thought that this would be the place to go!
I found this place to have very slow service, a bad waitress who seemed to be more interested in watching Olympic sporting events on her laptop in the corner rather than serve the full house, with decent food. There was a lady sitting beside us who waited forever for her food with her son, who had her food set down infront of her while her son had to wait 10-15 minutes for his roll - and she even had to ask the waitress if it was on it's way. We ordered an appetizer, salads, and 2 rolls each... our salads came out first which were really good, and then the appetizer, but then we had to wait about 20 minutes for our rolls to show up - which came out one at a time, leaving me with no food while my friend had 1 of 2 of her rolls out... We only ordered one specialty roll which looked like a sloppy mess on my plate as it fell apart when i went to take a roll off of it.
The waitress needs to get it together and realize that customers don't like dirty dishes sitting on their table through their whole meal - especially at such a small table squished between other customers. And that she shouldn't just serve another table beside you and walk away without giving a glance in your direction.
I'm a little surprised at all the stars given to this place. I will definately give it another try - but probably in take out.
The workers here NEVER wash their hands. It is so disgusting: they take your money and then grab your bread off the shelf with their bare hands. I once had a girl fix her hair and then touch my bread...GROSS. I've seen them store product ON THE FLOOR, and the bakers eat and drink right on their prep table, again, not washing their hands. I have no idea how they manage to pass any sort of food inspection. Also, there are some people who work here who are rude, impatient, and generally uncomfortable to deal with. The bread is fine, but certainly not worth the experience, and I'm never returning.
Big City Cupcakes has a big marketing budget. These cupcakes are over-hyped. I stopped in to the new Langley location. Apparently it's a franchise. The strip mall it's located in is still partially under construction and you couldn't even directly turn into their entrance, I had to detour to get to the place. They also had a confusing sign on their double doors, stating something like please use the other entrance or door with an arrow pointing to the left. All that sign meant was to use the door beside it, but it would be more simple and effective to communicate that with a sign directly on the door that they wished to be used with an arrow pointing downwards. Or the classy way would be simply to have the open sign on the door that they wish the customer to use, if it's such a hassle to leave both side by side doors unlocked. Why do I bring this up? It just highlights the lack of simplicity and common sense that this place has. The owner(?)/cashier was one of those tall, skeletal, glacial, blondes who looked like she hadn't eaten even one cupcake in her whole life. There was NO smell of baking in the place, as they don't even bake their cupcakes there! I'm confused as to their claims that they use no preservatives in their products. There must be preservatives or more likely a tonne of butter to preserve moisture and "freshness" as these cupcakes are baked centrally and then delivered to various locations. These cupcakes are extremely pricey. I came here for the filled cupcakes, as it's not offered by the other cupcake stores. These are tasty and decadent, the truffle one is worth the splurge. However, it's so rich I can only eat a small amount of the cupcake. At the time I went there were only full size cupcakes they might have sold out of the mini ones. Overall though I don't like this place. Original Cupcakes bakes cupcakes fresh daily and whatever they have left over they sell at a reduced price the next day, so you know that whatever you buy there is fresh from that day. They also bake in-store. Frostings Cupcakery down the street is comparable in price to Original Cupcakes and they smell like a bakery as well. They are also super generous with frosting. I find Big City Cupcakes are too expensive. While they do offer novel filled cupcakes, I don't think the product justifies the prices. I just don't like the idea of a bakery that doesn't bake onsite when it's a product like cupcakes that should be baked on-site. I want tempting wafts of vanilla, and sugar and butter before I purchase a cupcake. I want to see bakers, with aprons, that look like they eat and enjoy baking. In fact the design of this retail outlet wasn't even reminiscent of a bakery, it was almost more like a jewellry store, all of the diffrent flavours of cupcakes are under glass showcases. I didn't like that.
We've been to the Coquitlam Pasta Polo several times and have nothing but good things to say about them. However this Langley location is quite different.
We ordered the Baked Gnocchi, but it tasted like I was eating potatoes wedges instead of pasta. The server claimed that the long wait was because they were "making a fresh batch" but it certainly didn't taste it.
That being said, the waitress was nice and she didn't have a problem with moving us to a different table when we requested a place closer to the window so we could have more light. She also was friendly and talkative when I asked a few questions.
Although the place was dark in many places with only a dingy light over each table (maybe they were going for romantic atmosphere? I dunno). But they had these neat glass bottles filled with pasta that they used to make decorative displays. Was nice to look at.
All in all, it wasn't terrible but if you want a proper Pasta Polo experience, go to the Coquitlam location.
Like others I had read the reviews of this restaurant and felt trepidation to even dine at The Waterhouse however had a complimentary appy coupon and thought I would take the chance. When we were greeted by a smiling hostess and seated right away into a nice booth. Our server came a minute later took our drink order and was back in no time with the drinks and to take our orders. We ordered the jumbo scallops & bacon appy and the coconut curry prawn bowl for the main to share. So looking around the restaurant for a Monday night thought it was actually quite busy and with the lower lighting it was a relaxing atmosphere. Now for the surprise the food, the scallops were the best I have had in years cooked perfectly, they must cook the bacon first and then wrap as so many time in order for the bacon to be cooked enough the scallop itself is cooked to almost rubber. Then we had the coconut curry prawns and again it was wonderful so much flavour! I have a feeling it may be the beef that you may stay away from as the seafood seems to be spot on.
I've been to Hirame several times and have never been disappointed. I've been there on supposedly quiet nights and it has still been busy so I think that speaks for itself quite nicely.
We're not talking about a high-end and high-priced Sushi restaurant here folks... it's a very good little community restaurant so it wouldn't be fair to judge it against the high-end places.
Personally, rather than rating the food, service, value and ambiance as "solid" and "outstanding" I would much prefer to rate them ALL as "very good" (well, perhaps the ambiance would be just "good") and I think that's fair. The decor is pleasant enough (much better than the cafeteria decor I've experienced in other similarly priced sushi restaurants) but the buzz of conversation and the polite serving staff create a nice vibe. It's friendly and relaxed... not stuffy.
They've got a "very good" menu (they don't mind substitutions) and the balance between quality, portion size and price is really "very good". The hot food is hot, the cold food is cold, it's tastey and well plated.
I've taken a few friends there (including those who supposedly don't like sushi) and everyone has enjoyed it and said they would certainly dine there again.
So yes, if you're looking for a good value-for-the-money dinner in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this is a "very good" choice. :)
Better than KOBE steakhouse in downtown Vancouver, considering that it's east of the fraser river.
Filet Mignon, medium rare is my favorite. The bite sized pieces are mouth watering tender. The ebi mayo is a great starter dish.
The show they put on is always entertaining and great for any kids that come along. Service is friendly, cooks have great attitudes.
OVerall, a great place to celebrate with friends and enjoy an entertaining meal with some good sake!
My wife and I have been going here at least once a month and we always bring our friends. The Vietnamese style Calamari is the best I've ever had, so tender and well balanced with flavor. We also like the sugar cane shrimp as an appetizer.
For a light lunch, I usually have the beef and greens, which is tasty and healthy at the same time. The vinagrette sauce enhances the flavor of the marinated beef.
My favorite dinner plates are the beef stew, hue style soup, won ton soup, chicken vermicelli, and curry chicken on rice. They have a sour soup that I'm looking forward to trying next.
For dessert, you must have the deep fried banana with vanilla ice cream, what a treat! They have an assortment of desserts that I'd like to try, which are not typically found in standard vietnamese restaurants.
For drinks, my wife usually gets the blended Vietnamese Coffee with condensed milk and I love the avocado smoothy, which is a bit pricey, but well worth it.
Overall, a great dining experience, service is friendly, staff wears clean uniforms, very clean, new and modern dining area, and MOST IMPORTANTLY the washrooms are spotless and beautiful.
Happy Eatings!
What sells Ko's is the warmth and caring of staff. We often phone ahead on a workday lunch, and the table is always set and preordered food immediately presented. The meals is always followed by an artful small plate of fruit, and they are quick to take care of the bill. Important on a short lunch hour!
