Before we left Kelowna, we gathered here for a mid afternoon breakfast. It seems to be one of the most popular restaurants in town, with a large queue patiently waiting outside for a table inside.

Luckily for us, the wait was fairly minimal and were seated at a large communal table by the kitchen. Everything about the space is a little eclectic and off beat. The difference between this and a similar outfit in, say Vancouver is that it lacks any of the posturing attitude and the holier than thou persona whereby they feel they're doing you a favour for eating there. Everything feels relaxed and there are plenty of families with infants and elderly and few if any of the beatniks and hipsters you figure you would at a place like this.

Where the eccentricity ends is in the food. Dishes are of the homestyle, comfort food variety which is a great find. They proudly proclaim their housemade meats so obviously most of our table ordered the classic egg's benny with their house ham. Perfectly poached eggs to order with a better than usual hollandaise caps off the great in-house ham that you can easily distinguish between commercially made. My corned beef hash uses a generous helping of corned beef slices mixed in with nicely made hashbrowns served up with bagel and butter on the side along with over easy eggs, which look to be organic.

Like the food, the staff are honest and aim to please. Things are casual here so comfort level is high while not being too laid back with checking up.

Nothing is outstanding or even well above average, but they do everything just a little bit better than they should. For that, it's a lovable place.

  • Joel W. : The wait time is always long but the food makes up for it! Fresh, delicious, and wonderful

  • Scott S. : Great, healthy breakfasts. Expect to wait a bit for your meals but it's worth it. Usually $10 to $15 per dish, very fantastic food however. Not open Mondays and Tuesdays.

  • Allison M. : Super yummy but I'm still bitter about the fact that they charged me to have my fried eggs in the huevos rancheros cooked through when I was pregnant. Badly played.

  • Dustin S. : Don't come and expect to eat right away — there's always a 10-15 minute wait on weekends. Make sure to try their strawberry jam. If you want a healthy meal, try the broccoli salad.
