Every once and a while we like to go to Browns Social House just to be reminded about why we do not like going to Browns Social House. The food is average to good but the prices are way over the top. Twenty two dollars for a sandwich? Come on! The bill for lunch for just two of us with just one cola drink was 60 dollars. That is too much for an average restaurant. The service was slow and the waitress seemed genuinely concerned because she apologized for the slow service without any prompting on our part. In another two or three years we may stop by and see again if there have been any improvements.

I work nearby and had come there about two weeks back for lunch with my friends. We ordered lunch special and the food quantity was pretty good for one person. There's a soup and a dish. I ordered the Hot and Sour Soup and a Chilli Chicken and it came with a rice. The food was delicious and there was almost no wait time. My friends had ordered the same soup but a noodle dish. That was good aswell, but it was a little too oily. The only negative to the overall awesome food quality.
The service though was a totally different story. We were three of us friends, he took the order and then put 3 plates and cutlery on the table and made us give it out to each other(!!). Then after putting the food on the table, he dint name which food was which, and my two friends who both ordered noodles had to play the guessing game over who ordered which. I have to tell you, it wasnt that the restaurant was busy and the server was running around, there was only one other table in the restaurant at that time. He was watching tv the whole time. He came to our table after about 15 mins and asked if everything was ok? I looked at my friends, thinking who is this guy? He put a jug of water in our table (dint fill water in our glasses) and went back to his tv.

At the beginning I was wondering to myself how come a restaurant which has fairly good decor located in scott road amongst so many offices be this empty. I think I know now. The big tall indian server there needs to know where he is working is called the "service Industry", I dint see any "service" whatsoever. The owner of this place is probably very rich and never comes to the restaurant, employees taking advantage and so the quality of the service is this pathetic.
The food is good, the service is, you know... worthless. Give it a try your experice could be different.

The success of Mario's has always been dependent on (go figure) Mario. Others have come and gone but Mario has always returned. Interestingly enough, there is now a new owner that might just make it work. He comes with twenty five years of experience at working in some VERY top end restaurants ( Joe Fortes to name one). It should be interesting if he can be as hands on and as "present" at the front door as Mario was, deliver the same quality food with some new surprises, and employ staff that seems glad to be there. If his warm welcome today is any indication, I think he is going to make a go of it and I am looking forward to seeing some "Vancouver expertise" and some QUALITY food come to our corner of the world. Should be interesting.

Stopped here a few nights ago with my husband after helping a friend move. We were so hungry! We walked in and the place looked run down and old. The carpets smelled of stale alcohol. The place was totally outdated. I wanted to move on to something else, but my husband was so hungry that we sat down and gave it a try. We sat in the center and had a slight view of the kitchen and bar. The servers were very friendly, helpful and polite. I ordered a chicken burger and salad with a beer,my husband the fish and a beer. It took a total of maybe 5mins and we had received our food. I remember telling my husband that was too fast and that it should take longer than that to cook a chicken breast. (Cause I am a line cook by trade.) I was a little worried, and for good reason. The salad was boring and consisted of alittle lettuce some what wilted and a few diced tomatoes and not so fresh green onion. The burger was the worst. The chicken was hard and dry and was like chewing on shoe leather, definitly not a fresh breast. That would expain how the food came out so fast. On to my husbands fish, which is definitly not homemade like advertised. Two pieces of fish that look like over cooked hockey pucks that were just pulled from a freezer and forgot about in the deep fryer. But thats not possible cause the food was served to us in 5 min. The only thing worth eating was the fries, but those were disappointing too, cause the rest of the food was horrible. I did not eat my burger and only moved the salad around on my plate. My husband choked down one piece of fish and a few fries just to kill the pain. We had the rest packed to go and threw it out on the way home and hit the drive thru. Pains me to say it was a waste of money and would not go back or tell friends that this is the place to dine.
In fact it is the complete opposite.

Sadly gone downhill or cutting corners

Now, I'll preface this by saying I used to live in London, UK so I know what a good Indian is and this was the best Indian in Vancouver area by far. I'd been there many times and always thought it was great and written good reviews elsewhere about it.

Recently however am sad to say our last visit fell way short of expectations. Yes, it was a Saturday night and the place was packed (as usual). Service, Decor was good but the food was way below par. Chaat Papri was very average, Palak Paneer was very very average and the Garlic Naans just tasted like they were out of a packet. Now I'm sure most of you can tell the difference between a Naan that is could in a Tandoor and one that is out of a packet and I certainly can. I question the waitress and she informed me that it is from the Tandoor. Not wanting to cause a scene etc I let it lie. I've had the Naans here many many times and this was way different and tasted like the PC Garlic Naans at Superstore(I've had those many times too!)I can only think that given that it was so busy they were using the tandoor for the meats and decided to speed things up by giving people packet Naans. It would be my only explanation but that is just not acceptable IMO for an above average price Indian restaurant. The Paneer Tikka was as normal very good.

I like the restaurant having given it good reviews before but I don't like gettting treated like a chump which is how I felt after this visit. I'd like to hope this was a one off but it wouldn't be the first restaurant once it got busy/popular/recommended to start cutting corners - hope this is not the case.

We have dined here several times, food and value is average. Service was lacking ,No cutlery ,had to ask for coffee fillups every time.Steak cooked perfectly. But the decore is now getting tired ,needs an upgrade , The out door plastic tables stained and very unappealing.View is not what attracts people ,just a backwater slough setting. Better places to eat in this town.

My girlfriend and I had a "girl's weekend" and had dinner here the first night and what a great choice.
We sat outside in their small patio as it was quieter. I don't understand these loud music places!!!

We had a really sweet server . . . was a bit slow but was really nice!

We felt very comfortable where we were sitting.

The food! Oh my goodness . . . I had their soup Chicken Thai! I could have had ten bowls!! I've been looking for a soup like this for ages!! The best!! Then I had the Fish Taco's!! So tasty!! I guess the flavour that was in everything really made it!
My friend had the appetizer quesadilla and it was a huge portion and looked and tasted fantastic too.

Will definitely go back to this one. I'll also have to check out the other ones around town to see if they're comparable!!!

Classic "niche" pizza place

Typically when i get pizza from a restaurant, I will look for something that reminds me of "when i was a kid." Alfa brings me right there. They actually have an "everything pizza" (admittedly, not for everyone) and they "do it right." When I ordered it, I was told, "it will take a bit longer than normal..is that alright." The reason being: the put fresh tomatoes on top and they don't want them to go to mush. BONUS POINTS! The end result was a delicious pizza, like from my childhood. My wife gets a three topping pizza and it's always done perfectly as well.

If you're looking for thing crust pizza, done in a 900F oven for 4 minutes with real mozzarella cheese and a couple pieces of fresh basil on it then this is not your place. (thank you, Lindsay Anderson for the description.) this is an old school, west coast Canadian family place.

We have this as take out as well and it doesn't disappoint... perfect for movies in the park :-)

I ordered the special A for 2 (Deep fried prawns, Sweet n sour pork, BBQ pork fried rice, Mushroom chop suey, Chicken chow mein) almond chicken aka mystery meat, spring rolls and black bean sauce

THE GOOD

Food was hot.
Spring rolls even though almost burnt we good
The black bean sauce was decent
The Sweet n Sour pork was decent
Broccoli was crisp

THE BAD

The fried rice tasted old and like grease...end of flavor

The chop suey had no flavor. Even the carrots and broccoli had no taste to them.

The deep fried shrimp was the coldest of the dishes but still a little warm however, they were rock hard. A little crunch would be fine but i mean almost break a tooth hard

THE UGLY

The almond chicken was just that a mystery meat. It look like cod that is used in fish and chips. It was spongey and rubbery, had no flavor and was difficult to chew at times. Almost every bite a new experience. The kids (16 and 12) gave this a few more tries then I did. Trying to figure out what it was, it became a bit of a game for them. I gave this about 3 bites before I almost got sick. The kids named it mystery meat and fed it to the dog.

The chow mein was burnt and had a dirty, smokey flavor. They tasted like these eggs my husband made one time after trying to fry eggs on high and he burnt the butter and the eggs then continued to cook more in the pan.

I would not spend $5 there again let alone the $50 I wasted especially considering my teen (aka the garbage disposal who eats anything and everything) would not finish her plate.

I read good reviews and can't help but wonder if there was possibly a change in management/cooks since then

Went here for a quick dinner after running some errands. Used the entertainment coupon and thank goodness we did. We ordered the onion rings, calamari platter and the special was $1.49/ taco which we ordered 4 (2 soft shell and 2 hard shell). Well the calamari was a bit overcooked and tasted more of the batter than any squid. The onion rings were good. The tacos were nothing to rave about. They tasted like some you would make at home when you ran out of real food. The ambiance was dated. It looked like they have not done anything to the place since the 80's. The service was very good. The waitresses were tentative and friendly. It was a satisfactory experience. I would not venture back anytime soon as there are a lot of better and more modern pubs out there.

A group of four, we all ordered different meals. Each of us was very satisfied with the individual meals and the service was outstanding. Overlooking the river on a sunny day, our visitors from New Zealand were impressed with the ambiance. From a practical point of view, the value for our money was excellent and I would definitely dine there again and use it as a place to entertain visitors

My partner and I had dinner here last night. What a wonderful surprise. I had the Butter chicken, very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist and tender. The curry was very good, with just the right spices. My partner had the Seekh Kebab and loved it. I tried it, very flavorful. Everything was delicious. We stuffed ourselves and had some leftover to take home with us. Good quality and value for the money.
Very good service, not smothering or neglectful. A warm welcoming establishment, with big tables to accommodate large parties if needed or small ones for two. We will definitely be back to try more of their
excellent Indian food.

Don't normally complain, but I figured people needed to know about this experience. I've ordered from them a number of times and was pleased with the food. The last order was quite surprising when we opened it up. The spring roll appetizers had one roll with a long black hair rolled around and attached to the roll. It was right on top of the order as we opened it, so I couldn't see how they'd miss it.

In any case, mistakes happen (although this was a big one) I thought I'd call them and explain. They didnt seemed bothered at all. They said they'd refund the price of the appetizer or make a new one if I wanted to come back. I said that's the best you will do about a hair in my food 'she said yes, that's all she could do'.

I explained to her that wasn't satisfactory, I was a returning customer and expected it handed better than that. She again said that was all she'd do. I said if that was all, I'd never come back and would report this online. That was the end of the call.

Anyways. I told the story as is, but since they didn't seem to care, I figured I'd follow through.

The first time we entered the doors of the Rose, we felt at home. The food is consistently yummy (& my hubby is über picky!); but if, for some strange reason, something is off, the servers and kitchen are always happy to make it right! There is a fantastic mix of younger and older patrons, which, being in the middle, makes us feel awesome (!). The atmosphere is lively and there's always a game on and/or tunes overhead. They have a spiffy new dance floor and treat everyone to live music and dance parties on a regular basis! It's never a dull moment at the Rose & Crown - where you do, indeed, get treated royally!

I brought my date there this weekend for dinner. I was impressed with the great selections on the menu, and we both loved our dinners. I had the backyard bbq burger(best burger I've had in years!) and my date had the cob chicken salad. We also shared a jug of red sangria and it was so tasty! Our waitress was very friendly and she really made us feel like we came to the right place. To top it off they have a jukebox so we got to play some of our favorite songs!
We'll be going back there for sure!

My husband and I went for dinner here to celebrate a year of wedded bliss, the waitress was very good, we have eaten there before and really enjoyed the food so that we would go for our Anniversary dinner apparently the product is inconsistant My husbands salmon was less then fresh it had that oily oldish taste fish gets after a few too many days sitting around, The potatoes were boiled and greyish (not greek potatoes at all) The ceasur I drank was very good if a little on the small side,The thing that ruined our dinner was the owners wife sitting there watching the t.v. at what seemed like full volume we got to here about a five year old dieing and the expected heat wave etc... if we wanted to subject ourselves to the news or t.v. for that matter we would have ordered in as opposed to dressing up and thinking we were going for a decent meal...we were both disappointed and disgusted we are NEVER going back. I do feel bad for the young girl who waitressed though as she is good and is wasted there. I would never recommend this place.

A few friends and i had lunch there recently. We enjoyed each other's company, the ambiance and that was about it.
Everyone was disappointed in their lunch. I had greek salad and it was very bad. Ladner has hothouses growing tomatoes close by yet the tomatoes were obviously imported from a really long ways away. There was a little feta and a few olives on the salad. I felt ripped off paying for it.
The server seemed impatient, busy {maybe understaffing?} and didn't like to answer questions.
Ladner is a farming community and has a market during the summer. It certainly appears that not much if any local produce makes it's way into this place.
This restaurant has a lovely setting with a patio. If this is the most important thing to you, then Taverna Gorgona is for you.

We came here twice last week.

We hadnt been back in a couple of years as bad service and horrible food kept us away. Not to mention unprofessional gestures from the manager.

We decided to go on a thursday night. When we walked in, it looked different, we were greeted right away and our server was great. She was knowledgeable about the menu and even helped my boyfriend decide what he should eat since he is so indecisive. The menu was 'back' Spinach Dip! Yay. The food was fantastic and definately worth the value!! We were so impressed.

On our second visit, we met the one and only "MARIO" Wow, what a fantastic guy. He has a passion so great for his restaurant, you can feel it!! He welcomed us with open arms.

Our server Matt whom we had couple years back, was still there too! Still the funny comedian that he was and is! Very professional.

I do have to make a comment on their 'hawaiian shirts' though, a tad bit cheesy....

If you had been avoiding Mario's due to their past Management and menu, all I have to say is "MARIO IS BACK",

It was wrong but i only discovered it when i got home, so i phoned in and almost got into an arguement with the next person. They did say they will make a note on file. But to be honest i probally will not go back. To bad to see a great restuarant go down hill.
