Not good at all

Submitted Wednesday, August 29, 2012 - 2:17pm [Take-out]

I ordered the special A for 2 (Deep fried prawns, Sweet n sour pork, BBQ pork fried rice, Mushroom chop suey, Chicken chow mein) almond chicken aka mystery meat, spring rolls and black bean sauce

THE GOOD

Food was hot.
Spring rolls even though almost burnt we good
The black bean sauce was decent
The Sweet n Sour pork was decent
Broccoli was crisp

THE BAD

The fried rice tasted old and like grease...end of flavor

The chop suey had no flavor. Even the carrots and broccoli had no taste to them.

The deep fried shrimp was the coldest of the dishes but still a little warm however, they were rock hard. A little crunch would be fine but i mean almost break a tooth hard

THE UGLY

The almond chicken was just that a mystery meat. It look like cod that is used in fish and chips. It was spongey and rubbery, had no flavor and was difficult to chew at times. Almost every bite a new experience. The kids (16 and 12) gave this a few more tries then I did. Trying to figure out what it was, it became a bit of a game for them. I gave this about 3 bites before I almost got sick. The kids named it mystery meat and fed it to the dog.

The chow mein was burnt and had a dirty, smokey flavor. They tasted like these eggs my husband made one time after trying to fry eggs on high and he burnt the butter and the eggs then continued to cook more in the pan.

I would not spend $5 there again let alone the $50 I wasted especially considering my teen (aka the garbage disposal who eats anything and everything) would not finish her plate.

I read good reviews and can't help but wonder if there was possibly a change in management/cooks since then

Been transported back to the 80's

Went here for a quick dinner after running some errands. Used the entertainment coupon and thank goodness we did. We ordered the onion rings, calamari platter and the special was $1.49/ taco which we ordered 4 (2 soft shell and 2 hard shell). Well the calamari was a bit overcooked and tasted more of the batter than any squid. The onion rings were good. The tacos were nothing to rave about. They tasted like some you would make at home when you ran out of real food. The ambiance was dated. It looked like they have not done anything to the place since the 80's. The service was very good. The waitresses were tentative and friendly. It was a satisfactory experience. I would not venture back anytime soon as there are a lot of better and more modern pubs out there.

A group of four, we all ordered different meals. Each of us was very satisfied with the individual meals and the service was outstanding. Overlooking the river on a sunny day, our visitors from New Zealand were impressed with the ambiance. From a practical point of view, the value for our money was excellent and I would definitely dine there again and use it as a place to entertain visitors

My partner and I had dinner here last night. What a wonderful surprise. I had the Butter chicken, very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist and tender. The curry was very good, with just the right spices. My partner had the Seekh Kebab and loved it. I tried it, very flavorful. Everything was delicious. We stuffed ourselves and had some leftover to take home with us. Good quality and value for the money.
Very good service, not smothering or neglectful. A warm welcoming establishment, with big tables to accommodate large parties if needed or small ones for two. We will definitely be back to try more of their
excellent Indian food.

The first time we entered the doors of the Rose, we felt at home. The food is consistently yummy (& my hubby is über picky!); but if, for some strange reason, something is off, the servers and kitchen are always happy to make it right! There is a fantastic mix of younger and older patrons, which, being in the middle, makes us feel awesome (!). The atmosphere is lively and there's always a game on and/or tunes overhead. They have a spiffy new dance floor and treat everyone to live music and dance parties on a regular basis! It's never a dull moment at the Rose & Crown - where you do, indeed, get treated royally!

I brought my date there this weekend for dinner. I was impressed with the great selections on the menu, and we both loved our dinners. I had the backyard bbq burger(best burger I've had in years!) and my date had the cob chicken salad. We also shared a jug of red sangria and it was so tasty! Our waitress was very friendly and she really made us feel like we came to the right place. To top it off they have a jukebox so we got to play some of our favorite songs!
We'll be going back there for sure!

Wow not only was the bar full of true English football fans, but there were heaps of prizes and specials going on for the games!! I had a perfectly poured pint of Guiness and a very tasty and large plate of their special fries kind of like poutine but with beef, sour cream and salsa..... Yum!!!
I'm really big on going to great pubs around the lower mainland, and I'm not going to lie...... I will be back to this place in no time!! Thanks again to the really cute ladies who served me and props to the kitchen you did great!

Good meeting place if food is not important to you.

A few friends and i had lunch there recently. We enjoyed each other's company, the ambiance and that was about it.
Everyone was disappointed in their lunch. I had greek salad and it was very bad. Ladner has hothouses growing tomatoes close by yet the tomatoes were obviously imported from a really long ways away. There was a little feta and a few olives on the salad. I felt ripped off paying for it.
The server seemed impatient, busy {maybe understaffing?} and didn't like to answer questions.
Ladner is a farming community and has a market during the summer. It certainly appears that not much if any local produce makes it's way into this place.
This restaurant has a lovely setting with a patio. If this is the most important thing to you, then Taverna Gorgona is for you.

Mario's is back!

We came here twice last week.

We hadnt been back in a couple of years as bad service and horrible food kept us away. Not to mention unprofessional gestures from the manager.

We decided to go on a thursday night. When we walked in, it looked different, we were greeted right away and our server was great. She was knowledgeable about the menu and even helped my boyfriend decide what he should eat since he is so indecisive. The menu was 'back' Spinach Dip! Yay. The food was fantastic and definately worth the value!! We were so impressed.

On our second visit, we met the one and only "MARIO" Wow, what a fantastic guy. He has a passion so great for his restaurant, you can feel it!! He welcomed us with open arms.

Our server Matt whom we had couple years back, was still there too! Still the funny comedian that he was and is! Very professional.

I do have to make a comment on their 'hawaiian shirts' though, a tad bit cheesy....

If you had been avoiding Mario's due to their past Management and menu, all I have to say is "MARIO IS BACK",

Prior to tonight i used to be a regular take out and the foodwas always fresh and the order was always correct. This last order the person onthe phone was almost bitchy, and when i went to pickup my order. It was wrong but i only discovered it when i got home, so i phoned in and almost got into an arguement with the next person. They did say they will make a note on file. But to be honest i probally will not go back. To bad to see a great restuarant go down hill.

We arrived at around 8:30PM and it was quite empty. One thing I cannot stress enough is how bad the service was. We got our menus and literally waited 10 minutes for someone to check on us. There were about four waitresses on duty and they were huddled up by the cash register. One of them finally saw my wave and acknowledged my call but instead of coming to our table, she goes to clean the other nearby tables! She looks at me with dishes in her hand and I waved her over again, which she yells out "okay!" in a upset tone. After about another 5 minutes, she comes by to bring us tea..only to say "just one minute" before leaving us again. She finally comes by after 2 minutes to take our order.

Food arrived after 10 minutes (we just ordered 10 pieces of gyoza). The food had a nice presentation but did not taste fresh but overall tasted ok.

The service really got to us and honestly, no one should ever be treated that way. Will never go back again.

Kitchen Nightmare
By DinerJan of Surrey , B.C. (2 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, June 2, 2012 - 7:39am [Dine in]

A friend from Delta recommended this restaurant to me (it was around the corner from her house) so I decided to invite a long-time friend to join me there for dinner last night. I'm lucky that we're still friends.

Aside from the snippy waitress who tried her hardest to smile through gritted teeth, we endured food that would make anyone who considered "Greek" their favourite style of cuisine, cringe at the misnomer.

The thing I was most surprised with was the quality of the food. I ordered the spanokopita entree and it arrived charred. We're not talking brown - we're talking blackened charred. What shocked me was that it had to pass through the line cook, the expo and the waitress to get to me and apparently passed their stamp of approval with flying colours. Needless to say it was inedible and when I sent it back another was returned, not black this time, but dark brown. At this point sending it back would have been ridiculous. The vegetables were swimming in olive oil, the rice dry and the pita seemed stale.

My friend ordered the "Village Chicken" which was chicken covered in a clumpy, congealed mushroom sauce. She had a few bites and pushed it aside, and being the gracious person that she is, didn't want to embarass me by talking about my now, poor restaurant choice for the evening.

A complete and total waste of 45 dollars. Sorry reviewers who gave this place a high rating. You really need to get out more -- there are several excellent Greek restaurants within 10 km of this place.

Ladner Sushi is always cold when we've been there. The front door does not close properly. Often the heat does not appear to be on. As it was recently renovated due to fire, there is no excuse for this. We have eaten there several times now but won't be back.

I am a frequent customer of Akari in Delta. I have tried other Sushi places in the area, and none hold a candle to the quality of the food at Akari. No, it is not the cheapest place. No, it isn't the fanciest decor, and the service is - regular. They are VERY friendly, though.

Quality of food is the #1 importance to me and Akari delivers that, no question. Remember if you are in there and it sems a bit slow even though the restaurant is not very full, they do a brisk take-out business as well, and the kitchen is probably swamped.

I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience at Akari. A little slow sometims, but the quality is well worth the wait.

I has been years since I have eaten at this restaurant and had enjoyed it, It seems that the quality has slipped considerably since my last visit, coupled with the food stains on the wall made for a "not a great experience".

I had the Halibut and chips, it was dry and tasteless, and I am sure it had been sitting in the freezer since last year. Which wouldn't have been so bad if the market price wasn't $22.00 dollars for two pieces and a small helping of chips. The cole slaw I also ordered ( now a an additional side dish) was mediocre My business partner ordered a lamb burger and it looked average like it came from a package. I do not know what is happening , but I personally would be hesistatant to ever go back, the only redeeming feature was our waiteress was on spot and and very pleasant,

My recommendation is that they should fire the manager and update the menu, with fresh ingredients not product from a bag.

I have dined in twice since Mario re-opened in February. Everything is as it should be under his experienced management.

It's time for the regulars who drifted away or those new to town, to try it out. You will be pleasantly surprised and leave happy.

The food is flavourful and portions generous. The bruchetta is a top recommendation of mine. The calamari is easy to share for 3. My husband had the to-die-for ribs and I had one of the special burgers. I really like the bean and corn salad as a side dish. And the yam fries were great.

Our waitress was attentive, the service quick. She had a great personality and made sure everything was to our liking. Her sense of humour was fun!

The restaurent itself has had a spruce up, the booths are all re-done I think. It just feels like Mario is back in charge which he is.

Mario and his wife Brenda are at the front of the house extending their warm hospitality.

They are opening for lunch as of April 9th I was told.

Visited the place after hearing a lot from friends and advert.
It was a good experience. Service was good and there was a line
up at the entrance. Different than other typical Indian restaurant.
The restaurant was busy. Our server was very pleasant.
Just hope that the owners keep delivering good service and food.
In rush time parking can be a problem and not the best location.

First Choice for Indian food in Surrey!

Ok, so technically Tasty Indian Bistro is in Delta. The actual location is a bit run-down, but the restaurant itself is quite nice! They've got a hip, clean look to their interior, apart from a couple extremely tacky-looking statues guarding the door. And the food is great! My one complaint there is that the portions are just MILDLY lacking... for $12 butter chicken I think the bowl could be a bit larger. The tandoori is great too... but again, small portions. The samosas are kind of average, but with some mango chutney they're delicious and the mango lassi was terrific, nice and creamy. Again, a bit on the small size.

The servers here are pretty good. The night I went the place was dead, so we probably got a bit more service than I'd like since our guy clearly had no one else to tend on, but it's better to have them checking in a couple times too often than not at all. All in all, dinner for two came to about $45. I feel I could get more for that amount elsewhere, but the quality probably wouldn't be as good. I'll be coming back!

I visited this place with my husband and my son last night. There was no one to greet us at the first place. Then a guy came, no Hi no hello, just walked us to our seats and gave us menu book. We ordered our dosas and the food came after 15 min of wait. One of the dosas was "cold" not even warm. It was cold that no one could eat it. I told the server that dosa is so cold and does not seem fresh. The server abrupty and rudely said that they make fresh dosas and it cant be cold. I told him to try it. He took my plate inside and came back without my plate after about 10 min of wait that the chef has refused to make another fresh dosa for me and I have to eat that. I told him i am not going to eat cold food and especially when it has gone inside once. He was so rude and arrogant. I asked him abt what time the manager works here bcz I found that quite insulting when they refused to make dosa. On being asked abt manager he said he doesnt know what time manager works. I told him how I felt abt this episode and he did not even apologize. I left the place hungry and thinking that I will never visit this place again. The service sucks and food was cold. The staff is not respectful to their customers and seems like they dont care about the reputation of their business.

Order few dishes, asked them for "hot", man I tell you it was really spicy.

Masala Fried Fish served with Salad - Extremely good 9.5/10
Chicken Munchurian - very good 8/10
Goat Biryani - very good 8.5/10 (go with max medium hot)
Onion Rava Dosa & Masala Dosa - good 7.5/10
Fish & Chips - very good 8.5/10 (kids meal, not typical taste)
Nilagiri Chicken Curry - good 6.5/10

Very difference & unique taste due to different spices... not typical Indian food. Must try it. One of the best fried fish I have tried.

Some items should not be so high on price.
