I really enjoyed the food and the fast service. They were great with my kids. The salmon sashimi was delicious and fresh. The lunch box had plenty of food, and it was all well made and fresh. It was a pleasant experience. Cannot wait to go back!
I have been here for lunch before and the calamari was solid then.
This time I went for dinner and was placed by a table of 13 when there was lots of other room. It was loud. No lasagne and five average seeming pastas. Ordered Vongole and chicken souvlaki. Server when asked his opinion starts giving me the ingredients. I ask his opinion and he says averagely they're both very nice. Our server had about as much personality as a dead horse. After we got our food, he never came back, never asked us how it was and never refilled out drinks. Only came to drop off the bill. Souvlaki was decent but the vongole was bland. I will not be back to this restaurant even if someone else is buying.
I noticed that there was a change in ownership after driving through the parking lot and saw the sign had changed and the big giveaway of a new opening of a chinese restaurant were the flowers on the stands in the entrance. Had to give it a shot. The previous "all you could stomach" was disgusting.
What a surprise. I asked the server to recommend something special with a bit of spice and that I was looking to be impressed. He was excited and up for the challenge. He came back with the menu and pointed out the braised chili fish. Not something that would have caught my eye on the menu but decided what the hell.
I ordered it with steamed rice. I had never tasted fish so fresh and soft. No clue what it was but it was white fish and it was excellent. A little on the spicy side but I asked for it. There was enough to feed a family. I took it home and ate it for a couple of days. Not sure if he was trying to impress me with the portion knowing it was my first visit and wanted me to come back or if this was the normal size but it was huge.
I went back a few weeks later with an open mind. Talked to a guy at the table behind me and asked what he had experienced so far. He recommended the dinner for one which was a sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein and beef chop suey. It turned out that it wasn't a dinner for one but a dinner for two. The plate was huge and I could only finish about half.
I'm very optimistic that we may finally have a decent chinese restaurant for Surrey/Delta. We'll see. One concern I have which I have seen a number of times before is the size of the place. Its huge and they are obviously hoping for large dining parties. I worry because the overhead must be huge and will bite into their operating cost. They will need to fill those seats to make a good run at it. Kind of wish they were in a smaller sized room.
Give it a try!!
Excellent little tea & gift shop. The food is excellent and there are some great bakery items to bring home as well. Everything is very reasonably priced and the service is perfect. Lovely unique gifts at a great price as well, a great place to spend a little time browsing. A "must go to"!
Food: the food is quite good but ridiculously overpriced for what you get. I ordered the lady's bento box which came with the typical teriyaki, rice, rolls, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary and I honestly expected more. Nigri sushi was ok and they had a nice assortment of different types of fish.
Service: Atrocious. The restaurant was relatively empty on a weekday night and we were seated around the corner and behind a wall for some reason. It made getting service impossible. After waiting for 20 minutes for someone to come by, my dining partner just got up and went up to the counter to grab a waitress. Waitresses were congregated around the counter chatting to one another and ignoring people in the restaurant. After our meal, we couldn't find anyone to clear the table or get our bill. What a waste of time. Another group of 4 people arrived later and asked to sit in a tatami room and they were left with no service. They also finally had to come out and ask for service.
Ambiance: It looked a lot nicer from the outside but once we got in, it looked like some sterilized room. It didn't help that we were seated in a corner and didn't have a view of the rest of the restaurant save for the one table across from us.
Will not return as the sushi is ridiculously overpriced, the service is mediocre at best and there are just so many other authentic Japanese restaurants in this city that are much better.
They have the best homous I have ever tasted, my favorite place for Lamb Slovaki. The service is very good, this restaurant has been good for a long time used to come hear in the 80's. Would recommend this to every greek food lover.
We went to eat here for my daughters birthday, but we were dissapointed with the ambiance, there was none. We noticed most people were taking out the food. The food was pretty good but we would only recommend take out.
Food: I've had the chicken teriyaki, dynamite rolls, california rolls, tuna rolls, salmon rolls, negitoro rolls, kappa rolls, edamame, tempura, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki rolls, miso soup and salmon sashimi. Everything tastes excellent and is made fresh to order rather than sitting in some cooler somewhere. The teriyakis are good but nothing out of the ordinary. They have the freshest and tastiest salmon sashimi I've ever had before - if you're a sashimi lover, you need to try it here. Food is a little pricier than normal but of a higher quality and actually made by japanese people - it's a small family-run business.
Service: It is always very busy here during peak hours and not because of people dining in but the immense number of take-out orders they cater to. Went there on a Friday night and was told my order wouldn't be ready for 30 min but turned out to be around 45-50 min. There was a line-up of people waiting for their take-out orders - at least 5 groups at any given time. As a result of their lack of staff and their dedication to freshness, service was quite slow and the 2 servers (family members I believe) were getting quite flustered and running into one another. Guess that's the price you pay for having great food. Will try to avoid peak hours next time and recommend others to do this as well or else call your order in and pick up when they say you should.
Ambiance: Nothing special - just a few tables and booths and quite small. I wouldn't dine in if I had the choice but it's clean nonetheless.
Will definitely return but as mentioned above, I will definitely order ahead of time and come a few minutes later than what they tell me.
The second best sushi I have ever had (first best being Tojos's) As Tojos is considerably more expensive, Akari is tops for the money. My wife and I have been eating at Akari since it first opened and have always been very happy with the food, service and the attitude of the owners and the staff.
The food is excellent at this local restaurant but they are lacking in service. When dining on a special day 'Mother's Day' etc. they will seat you at a table WITHOUT advising you that you will be sitting there for two hours before any food arrives. This is extremely upsetting as there are usually young children in your party and we would definitely have avoided making a reservation had we been informed of this.
Oct 13 2007 new business in old location. Excellent food, hot, crisp, fresh and NO grease. Our dish of fried rice was outstanding and the sweet and sour is very tender. Shrimp won ton soup a delight.
very good food. I'll buy again every time I order in. no need for 200 letters thats enough to tell the trueth.................................................................................................................................................
I've been to this pub 3 times...and was ignored each time. The service is absolutely terrible. The food was good, no problems there, but if you'd like to eat and have a couple drinks within a few hours, don't bother.
This is quite new, just open two weeks. It is located where the old Regalia restaurant, and more recently Dynasty Buffet, was located.
A wide-open room, quite bright and clean-looking. Bathrooms are reasonable. Minimally decorated, but they have plans!
A co-worker and I went for lunch and were favourably impressed. We both had braised brisket and wonton noodle soup. The broth was excellent, the wontons were shrimp, plentiful and very fresh. Noodles done just right, and the brisket was meltingly-tender. "Yummy", indeed! The lunch menu has wonton soup, noodle soup, lunch specials at $5.25, and some standards. The main menu has a few pages, and features dim sum and congee dishes as well.
As mentioned, they are just getting up and running, but this looks like a VERY promising restaurant in an area where Chinese restaurants are very few and not exceptional.
I've always enjoyed their Italian-style gelato, Indian-style kulfi ice cream and Indian hot snacks. Then, one day, my child needed to use the washroom and they led me to the back. Well: it was disgusting! Open food containers, with spoons in; food and garbage spilling over; uneven concrete floor with holes which were filled with stagnant water (the toilet overflowed?); food and toilet cleaning materials lumped in together; greasy, dirty surfaces. They probably have vermin. This put me right off and I've never been back. I won't even eat their ice-cream which is served at "The Green Lettuce" restaurant on Scott Road at 64th.
Hubby and I dropped into The Rusty Anchor for lunch....and it was as expected.
Service was adequate, food was OK. Hubby had taco salad, I had steak sandwich.
Location on the waterfront was attractive...location won't bring in foodies.
There is another Maguro Sushi restaurant in the Guildford area, started by the same man who runs this place in Ladner. We found him (Guildfod area) by chance years ago, and kept going back for the excellent sushi. Suddenly, he was gone and others were running the Guildford restaurant. Since it was quite a drive, we stopped going there.
Several years ago, while in Ladner, we saw a new awning in the Trennant Park mall, "Maguro", with the same logo. Next time we went by, it was open, and we dropped in to investigate. There he was, the same man behind the sushi counter who had produced such wonderful sashimi and sushi. Seems like he must travel around, setting up these restaurants and then turns them over to someone else....
Anyway, the Ladner location has the same very fresh fish and well-produced cooked food. Prices are quite reasonable for this quality.
They DO get very, very busy, and a wait is possible - but definitely worth it.
Food: I have had their lemongrass chicken, spring rolls and pho several times and it's only ok - I've definitely have had better for a cheaper price. Their lemongrass chicken is really fatty and the accompanying salad is kind of weak. Their food is also expensive in comparison to other vietnamese restaurants that have tastier food.
Service: The ladies are really nice when eating in but when taking out, they are borderline rude. I don't know why.
Ambiance: Like any other hole-in-the-wall restaurant but perhaps a little cleaner.
Will try to not return but somehow always do because it's so close to home. I wouldn't come from outside Delta to eat here.
Stanley Restaurant is tucked into a corner of NorDel Shopping Centre, at 84th and 112th in North Delta. It's been there for quite a few years, and does a brisk business.
I go for pho, which is great. My husband usually tries one of the other noodle soups or a combination plate. We've never been disappointed.
Went looking for Uncle Herbert's Fish and Chips a while ago, and found that The Boot and Sombrero had moved in... Ambiance is Southwestern US cowboy-farmer-nostalgia-roadhouse (kinda).
We were there mid-week for a late lunch. The place wasn't busy, but we were dealt with pleasantly and promptly. Tried the pulled-pork sandwich, and it was VERY good - smoky and tender. Curly fries accompanied, and they were excellent, hot and crisp right out of the fryer. Hubby had a chipotle chicken wrap with caesar, and was pleased,
We'll go back.
