This is one of those places that is tucked away in Tsawwassen and very few people know about it aside from the locals. I take my visitors from out of town here. It's often one of the food highlights of their trip. You can get bookings a few hours in advance usually. They have an extensive wine list and their servers are knowledable and can suggest things if you arent sure what to pair your food with. One of the things I especially love about this place is that they really cater to your food needs. I tend to go with people that are food divas and the the staff is great about making something special for you. Very fresh vegetables and served crispy no matter what the dish is. I had the gnocchi last time which was fantastic.
The only thing I could say is the the bread they serve before dinner is often too hard to eat. The crust is quite tough (in the oven too long?) and it's not warmed up to where you could use the butter to soften it.
Aside from that one item I highly suggest you check this place out. It's a great place to take family on special occasions and it's reasonably priced for what you get. A large salad, entree and glass of wine each is around 70 dollars for two people.
I love that I don't have to go to the big city to get this kind of quality food!
Michael is a gracious host who always remembers something personal about your family.
The food has always been fresh and very well presented.
We like to eat in and take away several times a month.
This is my girls' favourite sushi place in Ladner and we have been to all of them!
We decided to try take-out from this restaurant for a dinner of 15+ people:
Food - absolutely delicious and very well prepared. The food was not at all greasy! Presentation was also great, considering it was take-out.
Service - the staff all had great smiles and were willing to accommodate any requests! We were well attended to, even when we were waiting for our orders!
Ambiance - n/a
All in all, very highly recommended! Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the North Delta/Surrey area!
Probably Delta's best Chinese restaurant. Large dishes, good service, good price. However the room is just too big. The way the tables are set up reminds me of my school cafeteria. We were a party of 4 orientals and we were given forks, never had that happen before. Napkins are a cost of doing business and giving patrons 1 of those tiny jobs just doesn't work, it reflects badly on the establishment. Checked out the restroom and give it a 4/5. Would I return? Yes!!
My hubby and I went in on the Saturday after Valentine's Day, and lets just say it was first class.. It was a full house (which means good!) , the hospitality was trumendous, and the food was impressive.. The rack of lamb is to die for.. I strongly recomend the Kalamari and the Mussels Athena.. The Kalamari was perfectly seasoned and the Athena sauce was soooo good we ate it with spoons! (lol) ... To cap the night off, the owners sent us complimentary flaming sambucas and "actually" sat down with us... It is very rare to see an owner sit and greet their costumers.... They were so graceous and cant wait to see them again..
The ambience was nice and unique.. Not many places you see such high ceilings and an open kitchen... I just can't wait until the patio opens up again!
I am not familiar with the area of Delta but I don't think my husband and I will go further than the Primerose for good food... Best place in town hands down..
Ocean Palace is an awesome restaurant. MY girlfriend and I both love the ginger beef, is so good when its fresh and still crispy. The mu-Shu is really good, as are any of their Chow Mein dishes. Hot and Sour soup is perfect if you have a cold, or anytime really, and the Creamed Corn with Minced Chicken soup is tasty. Id recommend this place to anyone, its a good value restaurant with delicious good and a super nice owner (James)
Been here a few times and never been disappointed. A must for fresh take-out sushi if you live in Tsawwassen or Ladner. Very busy so call ahead. Scallop rolls and Dynamite rolls both excellent and the tempura not too greasy and good value at $5.95. Staff are friendly and efficient. Not a dine-in place but great for take-out.
After residing in Ladner for 30 years, my husband and I have an inexplicable addiction to Niagra pizza. This is truly the best around - tons of cheese - can't make it for less. BUT!!!! We've had way too many bad experiences with the order mix-ups, the delivery person trying to find our address - the same address that we've been at for years - and not to mention, the owner's inability to understand English as to get the order right. When the owner was made aware that our order was misunderstood (because of the language barrier), he proceeded to argue with us as to what we had ordered. On another occasion, we got our order an hour and a half after ordering it and our French Onion soup was spilled and soaked into one of our pizzas, and that's how it was delivered to us. When we phoned and complained, they said they'd send another one out. 45 minutes later, we called to see what was happening, and they said they were waiting for enough orders for the delivery person to go out. In other words, it wasn't worth their while to deliver to us unless it was on their way. We've tried not to patronize them, but they really do make the best pizza in town. It's just too bad that we've had sooo many bad experiences with them. Eventually, we just cannot help but to go back.
We've been going to the Boot & Sombrero every week or so for over a year now, and while it was always good, it is better now. I think they have new kitchen staff & it's a real improvement. Although always a good value, the daily specials make the value even better - for example, 2 for one Mexican dishes, 2 for one burgers, etc. The service is also friendly, relaxed & fast. The restaurant layout is also very good, with 3 separate rooms, and a small room in the back for small, private parties. The Boot & Sombrero used to be occupied by our favourite Uncle Herbert's Fish & Chips, but I must say, I prefer Boot & Sombrero.
Great food, service is sometimes excellent, sometimes indifferent, but always polite. Fun to watch the Bollywood videos, too. We've had chicken and veg. curries, but goat & lamb are also offered and would probably be just as good. The garlic naan & the basmati rice are nice additions, but they do add to the cost. (Sometimes we're offered complimentary chapati & chutney, but not all the time. Don't know why it's so irregular!) We drive quite a long way to get to Desi Junction, but it is worth the trip. A solid favourite!
This restaurant is soooo popular that even when you order by phone, for a pick up, you can wait well over an hour. I think I waited over 1.5 hr's for my pick up order once. After I placed my order, again for pick up, I went grocery shopping and came back and still had one heck of a wait. The should hire more staff to handle the rush. By the time you get your food you could eat your arm off.
Another reviewer said it was too expensive, that may be somewhat true, but I got what I paid for - really good food! The service was okay, but they were quite busy. The food was well above average and I've tried a lot of different places. The best tempura anywhere! The Rock'n Roll is a full piece of Unagi (BBQ Eel) over a real crab California Roll with Unagi sauce on top. Very filling by itself and a real bargain given the quality and quantity. This place tops my recommended sushi in the Lower Mainland.
i usually HATE Chinese food of any kind...I find it dull, boring and frankly it all tastes the same. So anyways my fiancee has been bugging me to go out for some Chinese as we almost never do because I hate it.
So I read some reviews here and decided that if we're to go out we might as well find something thats supposed to be good...
And it WAS, the staff were on top of it we were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. They were very attentive almost obtrusive ALMOST, they were very polite and respectful.
We started with the usual spring rolls, They were delivered very promptly. First thing I noticed was that they were HUGE, usually you get the same old small tasteless deep-fried crap rolls, not these, the ingredients were fresh and even still crisp. More flavour than even my Asian cuisine indulging bride to be was used to.
The main course was a combo of a mushroom and chicken chow mien with soft noodle. Real shitake mushrooms and lots of fresh chicken. Top quality. Also was a plate of good-ole sweet n sour pork. Again, best I either one of us had. Fresh peppers and onions in the sauce. Very very tasty. We rounded it out with some BBQ pork fried rice. It was a more "traditional" plate with lots of BBQ pork, peas and egg. Again, best we have ever had. Also have to mention was that the portions were enormous. We had our lunch with enough left over for two more meals for the both of us. This is unusual as I can eat quite a bit at any setting.
The dishes each had a unique flavour, combined with good staff and reasonable prices made a convert out of me. Now I actually look forward to having some of the more exotic items on their expansive menu.
I hope that this place stays open, for if it closes I would have to revert to excluding Chinese cuisine from my favored treats. This is something that I would hate to do.
Sushi is some of the best I have had in the lower mainland. Always fresh, always tasty.
The only drawback to this place is the size of it. To dine in you better be ready to listen to some teeny boppers (close to NDSS) going off on their usual tirades on fashion and junk... This is easily overlooked when you try any sashimi that they have on the menu...
I recommend getting take out and arriving a few minutes later than they suggest... All worth it for the best sushi I have found!
I really enjoyed the food and the fast service. They were great with my kids. The salmon sashimi was delicious and fresh. The lunch box had plenty of food, and it was all well made and fresh. It was a pleasant experience. Cannot wait to go back!
I have been here for lunch before and the calamari was solid then.
This time I went for dinner and was placed by a table of 13 when there was lots of other room. It was loud. No lasagne and five average seeming pastas. Ordered Vongole and chicken souvlaki. Server when asked his opinion starts giving me the ingredients. I ask his opinion and he says averagely they're both very nice. Our server had about as much personality as a dead horse. After we got our food, he never came back, never asked us how it was and never refilled out drinks. Only came to drop off the bill. Souvlaki was decent but the vongole was bland. I will not be back to this restaurant even if someone else is buying.
I noticed that there was a change in ownership after driving through the parking lot and saw the sign had changed and the big giveaway of a new opening of a chinese restaurant were the flowers on the stands in the entrance. Had to give it a shot. The previous "all you could stomach" was disgusting.
What a surprise. I asked the server to recommend something special with a bit of spice and that I was looking to be impressed. He was excited and up for the challenge. He came back with the menu and pointed out the braised chili fish. Not something that would have caught my eye on the menu but decided what the hell.
I ordered it with steamed rice. I had never tasted fish so fresh and soft. No clue what it was but it was white fish and it was excellent. A little on the spicy side but I asked for it. There was enough to feed a family. I took it home and ate it for a couple of days. Not sure if he was trying to impress me with the portion knowing it was my first visit and wanted me to come back or if this was the normal size but it was huge.
I went back a few weeks later with an open mind. Talked to a guy at the table behind me and asked what he had experienced so far. He recommended the dinner for one which was a sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein and beef chop suey. It turned out that it wasn't a dinner for one but a dinner for two. The plate was huge and I could only finish about half.
I'm very optimistic that we may finally have a decent chinese restaurant for Surrey/Delta. We'll see. One concern I have which I have seen a number of times before is the size of the place. Its huge and they are obviously hoping for large dining parties. I worry because the overhead must be huge and will bite into their operating cost. They will need to fill those seats to make a good run at it. Kind of wish they were in a smaller sized room.
Give it a try!!
Excellent little tea & gift shop. The food is excellent and there are some great bakery items to bring home as well. Everything is very reasonably priced and the service is perfect. Lovely unique gifts at a great price as well, a great place to spend a little time browsing. A "must go to"!
Food: the food is quite good but ridiculously overpriced for what you get. I ordered the lady's bento box which came with the typical teriyaki, rice, rolls, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary and I honestly expected more. Nigri sushi was ok and they had a nice assortment of different types of fish.
Service: Atrocious. The restaurant was relatively empty on a weekday night and we were seated around the corner and behind a wall for some reason. It made getting service impossible. After waiting for 20 minutes for someone to come by, my dining partner just got up and went up to the counter to grab a waitress. Waitresses were congregated around the counter chatting to one another and ignoring people in the restaurant. After our meal, we couldn't find anyone to clear the table or get our bill. What a waste of time. Another group of 4 people arrived later and asked to sit in a tatami room and they were left with no service. They also finally had to come out and ask for service.
Ambiance: It looked a lot nicer from the outside but once we got in, it looked like some sterilized room. It didn't help that we were seated in a corner and didn't have a view of the rest of the restaurant save for the one table across from us.
Will not return as the sushi is ridiculously overpriced, the service is mediocre at best and there are just so many other authentic Japanese restaurants in this city that are much better.
They have the best homous I have ever tasted, my favorite place for Lamb Slovaki. The service is very good, this restaurant has been good for a long time used to come hear in the 80's. Would recommend this to every greek food lover.
