The 'Downer has been in this location for many years. The pub is situated in the basement, the entrance is off to the east side of the building.

This used to be a regular Friday-after-work spot when I worked close by. Other than a shared plate of nachoes and the free popcorn, I never did eat much here.

The OH and I needed a quick, cheap lunch. Stopping in on a Thursday noon, the place was pretty quiet.

Ambiance: nothing has been done to update this place in well over twenty years. The carpeting is worn, the interior seems dingy. Holes in the upholstery of the 80's style chairs. The place SMELLED of old, not-very-well cleaned bathroom.

Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. No complaints at all there.

Food was lower-end pub style. I had a fish burger with onion rings, the OH had sweet chili chicken and wonton pieces. The tiny peice of fish in the burger was 'way too old and fish-y, the lettuce looked like a piece picked up off the floor at closing time. Tomato was so under-ripe I wonder why they bothered including it. Onion rings, on the other hand, while they were frozen, precoated style, were hot and non-greasy. The OH's chicken consisted of one small piece of bare poached chicken breast tender, several deep fried wonton skins and a drizzle of bottled sweet chili sauce. I've rated the food as "decent" just because we didn't get sick from it...

Value? Portions were very small, quality of food was just barely edible. I didn't finish the fish.

Such a disappointment from a place that could have such potential. With lots of newer pubs up the Scott Road corridor, I'm not sure how this place has stayed in business.

NOT recommended.

Been here twice

I've been to Sundowner twice in two days. Last nite I went with a group of 5 and we ate and had pitchers. We ordered the beefdip, chicken fingers and fries and the veggie stir fry. We all enjoyed the food and drink and the tables were open so we had a few games of free pool as well. Today we went at lunch for toonie burgers and the soccer game and we found they were very good and I will be back for this deal again. My daughter had a veggie quesidilla and she said it was good as well. Both waitresses and the bartender were very friendly and helpful. Yes I agree with the previous post that the place needs an update but this pub serves a lot of regulars in the residential neighborhood it sits within and let's remember....this is a pub not Earls. You want amazing food go there and pay their prices. You want a drink and some pretty decent food for the money in a nice friendly place go to the Sundowner. I will go back there.
