No need for the dirty looks

They have great prices for lunch specials but unfortunately, the food falls flat. Their black bean sauce lacks the taste and punch of others I've tried and their rice is soggy. Dim sum is small in portion size and tastes funny - the sui mai tastes old, almost like it has expired or something and their ha gow falls apart. Sweet and sour soup is great but cannot save this place.

Service is atrocious. They are rude and unaccomodating. When restaurant is empty, the will still seat patrons close together or the dark parts of the restaurant where they are too cheap to turn on the lights! They dump plates onto your table, give dirty looks when you ask for anything (even though they should be serving you), they make fun of and talk behind the backs of non-Chinese patrons (I've seen it first hand! I pretend I don't understand but I do! They even do it right to their faces!!) and charge you for sweet and sour sauce when you order egg rolls and other food to take out. Ask for an extra packet and they look at you as if you've asked for their first born. So stingy with the condiments - they basically lost a customer because they were unwilling to spend an extra 0.10 on a customer's meal.

Service is too rude and food too mediocre to warrant a return. Will also warn others to avoid this place at all costs. In the Lower Mainland, there are countless Chinese restaurants to choose from so why frequent this establishment when there are plenty with greater food and service quality?

Ah, memories, chopsticks clinking while eating a bowl of noodles... Sam Wa used to be an excellent restaurant. They used to have chef's who turned out delicious food. Currently the food is more miss then hit, their new chefs cannot cook. The quality of food is like fast-food food court Chinese food. On top of that they've changed the portions of the food! Any main dish you order will be half onions, now I wish I were kidding but this is the truth. They used to have delicious egg rolls that were homemade, now it tastes like frozen mass produced crap egg rolls. Weekend's used to be full of people enjoying dim sum here... their food is so bad now that even during dim sum the restaurant is practically empty.

Change of hands, big dissapointment

Surrey and North Delta have a lot of chinese restaurants but most of them are really sub par when comparing to the other communities.
This used to be one that was descent especially for lunches. They used to have a daily dim sum but since the new owners took over they have cut that out and only have it on weekends. The food quality is, as the other reviewer hit the nail on the head, like poor food court quality.

I laughed about the other comments on the service. Its so true about the dirty looks and cold shoulders when you ask them for a water refill or anything extra. I hate to say it but I hope they go under so maybe another group takes it over.

We need a Hon's in Surrey/Delta. I have emailed them twice begging to check out the market here. I've told them not to get fooled about the number of chinese restaurants and told them the majority are very poor.

We dined here only because we felt like chinese and the place that we had intended on going wasn't open. Figured we'd take a chance, and boy I wish we hadn't!

The portions were pretty small, especially the veggies, and they don't have dinner sized plates for the food so you have to scoop all your food onto these tiny side plates.

The service was horrible! The girl working obviously didn't want to be there and she didn't try to hide it. When I asked what was in something I got shrugs and uhhhh... Followed by a guess. Then I asked how something else was cooked and she said 'I have no idea' and then walked away, never came back to tell me how it was cooked!

Finally when the meal was over, we sat there for quite a while waiting for our bill when I finally had to get up myself and pay. I stood at the counter where the girl was doodling, she looked up at me like she was wondering why I was there and I had to finally tell her I wanted to pay before she figured it out! I would have left $0 for a tip, but she was right there for a change staring at me and I felt bad and left a minimal tip. I also just realized we didn't get any fortune cookies!!

All in all, our experience here was terrible and I wouldn't recommend any one dine here!
