Great Get-Away

Coming to "the Riverhouse" in Delta from New Westminster is quite a distance to travel, but it makes me feel like I have 'left the city' once I am there, and I do find that relaxing. I agree with their website, "burgers best around". They aren't all that is good to eat here though. Over the past few years I have enjoyed several pub menu items for weekend brunches. While no one dish stands out, the quality and care taken in the preparation of the food does. The restaurant and pub are next to a marina and though I don't use it, I feel like a boat owner, sitting in a cozy pub chair, looking at the boats, pretending there are a couple extra zeros at the end of my bank account balance.

One of the nicest patios in lower mainland in my humble opinion. Food is not awesome but good and the variety is just right for an upperscale casual type of restaurant. I love the ambiance and it's worth the drive. My parents live in Surrey and brought me here... this is my first review and I love dining out so I'll be doing more reviews as I dine out!

Find it - you'll like it!

This place IS worth the trip. But for we Ladnerites, its a lot more pleasant trip than through the tunnel and over a bridge to better restaurants in Vancouver - if you can find one! Certainly beats White Spots for food quality, ambiance, view (lazy river, circling eagles, passing ships) and service - despit having the same owner!

Mother's Day!

We went to this restaurant before and never had an issue but I felt quite compelled to write something this time as it was for Mother's day and we were all sadly disappointed.
As my two grown sons are big eaters, they ordered each a plate of fish and chips with a price tag of $22.00 each. Yes, it was expensive but it was Mothers day and what the heck.
My wife and I also ordered tow separate menu items for our dinners as well as a appetizer.
Well, we got our drinks promptly but waited forever for our appetizer let alone the dinner items. After about 40 minutes, I went to look for our waitress to see about our appetizer and met her at the door. I said to her that I was about to find out what happened to our appies and she replied by saying that they were extremely busy and the kitchen was handling the food for the pub and restaurant.
I said to her that I hope our food does not take as long and she said I hope not either.
Well again, we waited easily another forty minutes and finally the food came and my sons were so disappointed as for $22.00 they got two small pieces of fish and hardly any fries.
When I brought this to the waitress' attention, she brought out more fries for each of my sons. At that time, I said to her that although I appreciated her doing that, the fish pieces were small and she said the price of fish is very expensive.
Although our waitress was very nice, this does not excuse the management team for poor staffing!

I feel ripped off

I have been to this pub/restaurant before. I was satisfied but not this time. The prices have gone up so much, not just a dollar or two, but a lot. the food was substandard. The coleslaw was horrible. I compare their menu to more deluxe places both in Ladner and Richmond and you can get so much better quality food from other places, for a lot less. Give me a break $21 for Halibut and chips... now, that is ridiculous... everywhere else is no more than $14 for that.

Time the management starts reading these reviews. I will never go there again, and I'm spreading the word, what a rip off. Totally substandard in all respects, don't go, the deck is not worth it.

Overpriced with bad service

We went there for a quiet romantic evening, at first glance it looked like we hit the jackpot, the restaurant was nice with a relaxed atmosphere a classy touch.
Once we sat down to order everything changed - the service was poor resulting with us having to wait for our main course for over an hour because of a kitchen confusion (at least this is what we were told).

The real disappointment was when the food finally arrived, mediocre taste and small portions compared to price asked. we left the restaurant hungry as we came which led us to stop at the closest Cactus Cafe to complete our dinner.
This restaurant is a waste of time and money - avoid it.

Impressed with Food but service needs practice

We have good service from the servers, get seated promptly and took our orders for drinks and food without delay. Our appies arrived quite fast, the food is good, we have calamari and mussel/clam.. Their breads are exceptional. The restaurant is not very busy, still lots of table available, there are 3 big tables ahead of us, we have a party of 8. Dinners took over 1/2 hour before it show up. Every dish we had are good, lamb and their signature ribs are very tender and tasty. Salmon and the seafood cassarole also very good. Didn't get a chance to try dessert because by the time we had our dinner, we already had too much bread since we have to wait so long and it take us 2 hours with no dessert and this is way too long...

Disappointing

Had eaten in this restaurant about two years ago & found it to be a pleasant and somewhat upscale dining experience for South Delta. As a result, I was pleased when my husband took me there to celebrate my birthday. We went early on a quiet Tuesday evening at the beginning of December. We were seated in a nearly empty restaurant (2 other tables and one of them was just paying and leaving). So service should NOT have been an issue - but it was. Our server seated us and then disappeared for 10 minutes, did not offer to take our drink order or anything. We noticed the menu was no longer as upscale as it used to be - it's more in line with the pub next door now. Too bad. Server reappeared to seat another table and on the way back by us asked if we wanted anything?!? We said we were ready to order and this seemed to fluster her so she said she would be right back. 10 minutes later, she's finally back! She starts by telling us she's new. We were to hear this MANY times during the evening!! I ordered a glass of wine from the wine list and she immediately indicated she didn't know what that was since she was only a beer drinker herself. Great. I had to point out the wine I wanted on the list and she seemed to finally take note. We ordered appies and entrees, a Caesar salad and the Duck Breast for me, Scallops and a Gorgonzola Peppercorn Ribeye Steak for hubby. Our drinks finally showed up, after two more tables were brought in, seated and served THEIR drinks first! We did not even get the basket of bread that showed up on all the other tables when they were seated, nor was it offered. Appies showed up, and were unremarkable at best. Drinks were both empty by this time, but waitress simply grabbed the plates and headed out without asking if we wanted another. Meals did not show up for almost 20 more minutes, and when she put the plates down (forgetting who had ordered what and telling us,yet again, that she was new) we immediately saw that the order was wrong. My duck breast seemed fine, but hubby received a prime rib dinner. Not what he ordered. When we pointed this out to server, since she didn't notice, we were once again told she was new, and she would take it back and go check with the chef. As I sat with my rapidly cooling dinner in front of me, my husband urged me to start since it can't take long to get his steak. Wrong. He sat and watched me try to stall as long as I could while waiting for his meal, which took 20 more minutes! Waitress stopped by a couple more times to tell us she was new, to offer to get him soup while he was waiting, and finally brought a bread basket!! His dinner showed up just as I finished the last of mine, which by then was ice cold. Very poor service - he should have had his re-order go right to the front of the line in the kitchen but it obviously did not. So much for eating our dinners together! I nibbled at the remains of the bread basket (that we had to ask for while waiting for his meal) while hubby ate his entree. The other server in the restaurant (who was apparently TRAINING ours!)came over and stated that because of the problem, we could have free desserts. Hardly made up for the poor service so far. Then our server comes over and announces that the chef who makes dessert isn't in, so several items aren't available. We tried two items that were "specials" - a gingerbread type cake with caramel sauce and a pumpkin ice cream cake. Both were bland and uninteresting. The other server then came over again, this tme with our bill, and indicated that she had taken a whole 15% off. Any other restaurant that had messed up this badly would have taken off one or both meals as an apology, but this was clearly all we were getting. My birthday meal out was disgraceful, and we will not be back. Reasons: Poor Service and a lackluster menu with mediocre food. Note to owners: make sure your servers are educated about the menu and capable of doing the job before setting them loose on your paying customers. It's the least you can do!

Overpriced buffet due to holiday/server not in tune

We went here for mothers day. Didnt have a reso, but were told 'a table just opened up' We were lead onto the patio with tons of open tables all around us. Because of the day, they were only serving buffet, so we pretty much had no choice but to do the buffet.

The lay out of the buffet was so rediculous. You can tell that they obviously didnt think this through.

there was a large selection of breakfast items, waffles,french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash. Good seafood selection. There was pasta, some kind of roast. No chicken :( The dessert selection was okay. Their cheesecake is absolutely fantastic!

Our server was not so great at 'serving' We had to wait a few times for her to bring drinks to us. When she cleared our plates, she told us to keep our dirty cutlery! Gross. Would it have been that hard to bring us new cutlery??

The bill came to $184 with tax! Yes! Thats a brunch! Four people with two drinks each. The buffet was $29 per person alone!

Would probably go back, but just for the regular menu.

Spectacular poor service.

We brought some friends here after a wonderful long hot day in the sun. We had found this pub on a dark cold fall nite.and wanted to share it now with them. Prices were a little high compared to similar venues. We came back to try out the long narrow deck ( Great views) .
We walked in, found a table on the deck , Perfect. The server took our order and left
After forever she returned with our now well aged pints and took our food orders. Eventually the pints were emptied and we waited to reorder , and waited and waited. My wife went on recognizance mission and found her sitting by the bar. We reordered and waited and waited and waited. We asked a busgirl if she could check on our missing waitress . the bus girls delivered our food ( great service ) Our drinks finally also showed up , no "I am sorry for the wait".
I could understand if they were full and busy but they were not. The food was ok, not bad not great..
Our biggest disappointment was the service from our server. if a pub is going to charge a premium prices for their food ( again compared to similar venues ) it should have the service to go along with it
For the first time since I can remember NO tip was given, if the server ain't got the time She ain't getting a dime.

A great dining experience for overseas visitors

A group of four, we all ordered different meals. Each of us was very satisfied with the individual meals and the service was outstanding. Overlooking the river on a sunny day, our visitors from New Zealand were impressed with the ambiance. From a practical point of view, the value for our money was excellent and I would definitely dine there again and use it as a place to entertain visitors

Eating on the Restaurant Patio

My wife and I went to the Restaurant (not the Pub) for our anniversary dinner. We got a table on the patio and enjoyed a great view of the marina, the river and local wildfowl. A great place to spent some time and enjoy nature. The food was well prepared although not served up with any flare. Our server and busperson were courteous and attentive. When the server found out we were there for a celebration the restaurant gave us a free desert. Nice touch! Also I was not charged for a small oversight. They forgot to bring the coffee when I ordered it. The server brought it quickly when I reminded her. I was not charged for that coffee.
Overall a very nice experience. I will go there again, next time with friends.
