Mama Mia is an Italian and Indian ice cream parlour
I really wanted to cool off so I convinced my sister to go here. Should have went next door to get a smoothie instead. The quality of the ice cream is comparable to what you would get at a grocery store. The mango lassi was okay. I've had better ones elsewhere. Service was average. The place wasn't clean. Supplies everywhere. I didn't even ask for a sample because I believe they reused the spoons and I question how well they clean it. My sister just picked a random flavor and we left shortly afterwards.
I went in because I noticed they served bubble tea to get one for my husband and I. The smoothies we chose were both OK. Price not too bad @ $3.75 each, about average compared to other bubble tea places. But the pearls were small and tough. That might be the way some people like them, but not me. I like them big and chewy.
I used my debit card and was charged 15 cents to do so.
I found the restaurant to be dirty. When I was at the cash register paying I noticed the garbage bin is right beneath the counter. Filthy, disgusting dried food parts were on the flap. That in itself was so gross I'll never come back here.
I've always enjoyed their Italian-style gelato, Indian-style kulfi ice cream and Indian hot snacks. Then, one day, my child needed to use the washroom and they led me to the back. Well: it was disgusting! Open food containers, with spoons in; food and garbage spilling over; uneven concrete floor with holes which were filled with stagnant water (the toilet overflowed?); food and toilet cleaning materials lumped in together; greasy, dirty surfaces. They probably have vermin. This put me right off and I've never been back. I won't even eat their ice-cream which is served at "The Green Lettuce" restaurant on Scott Road at 64th.
This location used to be a Baskin Robbins years ago. As a family we would go often during the summer for a treat. When it first became Mamma Mia we visited as regularly as we had when it was BR. As time went on the ice cream parlour became dirtier and dirtier. The last time my son had an ice cream from there, the ice cream had dried & stringy, sticky bits in it. A month or so later we were walking by & he asked for an ice cream. I reminded him of the poor quality last time but he still wanted to go in. In we went & the first thing I noticed was that mould was growing in the corners of the glass in the ice cream displays. I pointed this out to my son (10 yrs old) & he was no longer interested in ice cream! Needless to say I don't have to worry about him asking for ice cream again when we are in the area. It's filthy & no one should eat there. If that's how they present to the public, imagine what it looks like behind the scene.
