La Belle Auberge Restaurant is located in the old village of Ladner, British Columbia. It is situated in a 100-year-old Victorian house. The restaurant has two levels and five dining rooms.
Had a slightly difficult time finding the restaurant but that's due to GPS accuracy and our lack of outings to Ladner. Had a window seat and both my partner and I ordered the set menu. Tables are close together as the room was a former living room but the live guitar and music made the ambiance cheerful.
Staff is friendly and owner greets customers.
Each dish was terrific and tasteful. Service was attentive. Great for a special night out but not for quick dining since one should expect the meal to last 2 hours for the set meal. The only dish that didn't appeal to us was the rabbit but that's a personal thing. All the dishes were great but dishes which stood out were the duck breast (main), salmon and the dessert.
Definitely worthwhile. Price is reasonable for the level of food. Another visit in six months!
The Table d'hote menu was delicious and very filling...definitely great value. The dishes were inventive; I love how they have kangaroo and bison on the menu among other things. Canapes were good and I also liked the inclusion of the sorbet as a palette cleanser.
Just spent a lovely Friday evening dining at this fine Ladner restaurant. Have visited this venue on occasion for many years now and have had mainly very good experiences with just the odd time where either the food was not necessarily that terrific or the service a bit lacking, but not enough to deter us from returning.
Last evening though, everything fell into place in all respects. Had a wonderful appetizer of grilled prawns in a delicate sauce and followed that with the rack of lamb which was accompanied with a medley of varied vegetables, all delicious.
Finished my meal with a very tasty trio of dessert consisting of a delicate choc. mousse, ice cream and poached fruit, served individually on an elongated plate.
My spouse had a different seafood appetizer followed with the beef tenderloin and then fresh seasonal fruit and sorbet for dessert. All were wonderful as well.
The proportions of each dish were more than adequate and it was all good value. The owner Bruno Marti was in attendance that evening and is always the charming host. Briefly came out to say hello to the diners but was definitely kept busy in the kitchen along with his executive chef, as the restaurant was quite busy.
Also had a fellow playing classical guitar which added to the overall pleasant experience.
Would not hesitate to recommend this top notch dining venue to anyone who wishes a quality meal in an attractive and comfortable setting.
When we arrived, I was surprised to see that we were entering house with a fence and lawn. We were greeted by our host/server and he was warm and engaging from the get go.
The food was soooo good and portioned just so, making you want more. Having the set menu, the stand outs for the evening were the lobster bisque poured into your bowl containing goodies, lobster custard (wow!) and apple sorbet with this white chocolate ball that burst with juice when eaten! It was so unique. The presentation of each dish was flawless and very appetizing.
The decor is very romantic with chandeliers, roses, and candlelight. If you want to take your loved one out for an intimate evening that will leave her wanting more--this place is it! I can't wait to try everything!!
I took a friend here last December and the food was fabulous. I had the veal tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection with great flavour. The service was very good. Waiter very helpful and knowledgeable.
My mother and I went last night and it was so slow. Took 2 hours to get an entree and dessert. I ordered the rack of lamb and ended up with 3 lamb chops. No seasoning on the meat. Cooked nicely but barely had 6 bites of meat. My mother ordered the steak, again nice and tender but no flavor.
I noticed they dropped the prices and the quality of food seemed to drop as well.
My friend chose La Belle Auberge for his birthday dinner, so the four of us went.
We each decided to go with 7 course Table D'hote menu.
The 1st selection was an amuse bouche of smoked lamb. This was the first time I ever had lamb smoked and it was delicious.
The 2nd item was a soup choice of either the lobster bisque or the chilled pea soup with mint sorbet. I had the pea soup and it was good and even better when I mixed in the sorbet. The lobster bisque was also well received by the others.
The next selection I had was the smoked kangaroo. It was very tender and flavorful. The other selection for the 2nd course was the escargot, which was had by a couple of others in the group. I tasted it and it had a nice buttery sauce.
Next up was a warm lentil salad. This was had a nice texture to it and was enjoyed by the three of us who had it. The other person had the mixed summer green which he enjoyed especially with the orange vinagrette.
A palate cleanser of plum sorbet followed. It was nice and refreshing and prepared us for the main course, in which I chose the
roasted scallops. They were nice and tender and quite delicious. The only drawback were the vegetables that were served with it were a little over cooked. The others had the duck breast, bison loin and the halibut with prawns. They all enjoyed there mains as well.
Finally we come to desert. I had the fruit and cheese plate, which had three varieties of cheese along with slices of pear and apple. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Two of the other had the dessert sampler which they enjoyed and the other had the assorted sorbets.
Overall, it was a nice paced meal and the server knew when to make an appearance. I would like to come back in the future to try their autumn menu.
We've eaten here twice now. Once on our anniversary, the other when our daughter and husband were in town. Both were "celebrations" so perhaps I was in too good a mood to judge. However, our daughter spent a decade as a caterer, chef and manager of a major New York City events house and she was as impressed as I was.
We put ourselves in the Chef Marti's hands. It was a good decision.
A wonderful, quiet, Victorian room with superb service, "classic" food and carefully matched wines.
Take the ride out to Ladner and enjoy your evening.
