Jim's is a true hidden gem. My family enjoys Greek food, and we have tried many of the restaurants in the Vancouver/Surrey/Delta area. Most are range from "meh" to "decent," but Jim's is the exception. Although is it in a bit of an odd strip-mall location, it is well worth checking out. The lady who serves is incredibly sweet, the restaurant is spotless, and the food is fresh and well-seasoned. The lamb is especially good, as is the spanakopita; it's the best I've had anywhere. Go!
We have been coming here for over 5 years and have *never* been disappointed. The food is always great, as is the service.
The only reason we don't go that often is because of the price. That being said, you get what you pay for. This is quality worth paying for.
My wife and I only went here because we had an entertainment coupon. At first my wife was very hesitant because of its appearance from outside. I pushed her along and man was she surprised....the food was great hot like it should and not greasy or oily. The service was very good. The restaurant was half full as well with a nice crowd of happy people.
We had calamari to start which was a very good size portion with hot pita and great tiziki. For dinner I had the roast lamb which was fantastic, and my lady had a spankopita dinner which was perfect as well. Everything was fresh hot clean and very yummy.
We will both be defiantly returning when we have a hunger for Greek food. Its our new favourite little restaurant in Surrey.
We have been going to this restaurant since it opened for both the mussels and the value of a shared meal . the mussels are done in a spicy wine sauce and if you like a little spice you can not resist picking up the spoon enjoying the broth with pita .The mussels , a large lamb souvlaki meal with a 1/2 liter of wine for less than $45.00 is a true bargain ,. Combine this with a friendly attentive service and a casual atmosphere and it always enjoyable .
I've been going to Jim The Greeks for years and I've almost always enjoyed myself, left full, satisfied & recommended them to friends & colleges. It's true that the restaurant never used to appear very busy on any random weeknight but since the renovation, sometime last year, since I've gone it's definitely been busier than before and that's great to see. The usual face one immediately sees when walking tho the door is the hardworking wife Maria. She'll usually greet you immediately if she's not serving at that exact time and seat you where ever your comfortable. The menus and waters are almost there immediately and the table candle is lit without request. I almost always order the Klefico "Roast Lamb" either with or without the Tomato Sauce on top. It's a huge plate and the price $12.95 is unbeatable. Up the road it's $16.95 for almost the same thing; I think Jim's is bigger. The plate comes Greek Salad, Lots of Lamb, Greek Potato, Greek Rice, Pita on the Side with Tzatziki & Lemon Slices. If you'd rather sub a Caesar Salad at no extra cost that is an option instead of the Greek Salad. Jim will usually make an appearance either from the kitchen where he might be cooking or the back room and he'll make a point of coming around to say Hi to anyone dining. So what can I say negative well...because the restaurant isn't always so busy on the weeknights I think the Servers have a high turnover rate due to probably low tipouts and as a result, if it's not Maria serving you, then you might have hit or miss service. The food is almost top notch only thing is some of the sides might show some minor signs of being reheated but usually not and definitely not a reason to miss out. The value is incredible for the price and better than any other Greek restaurant that I know of. The ambiance after the remodel is much nicer and brighter but I personally don't like the new big screen LCD in the main dining area and it's a bittt to open not a real cozy feel unless you're sitting in the booths. All in all tho I think the best Greek restaurant around and definitely something I hope will be around for many more years in the future. Go check it out and say Hi to Maria & Jim.
I've been going to Jim's on and off for several years now so I thought I'd write up a review. It's a pretty average Greek restaurant complete with vines on the walls and ceiling and placemats with a map of Greece on them and nothing pretentious about the place. I've only seen it really busy once, on Valentine's Day, but most of the time the place is half full. Therefore, I would expect the service to be better than it is. The servers are friendly but often times the order takes upward of 40 minutes to arrive and the pita bread shows up after the entrees. On the aforementioned Valentine's visit the waitress lost our order so we paid for our drinks and left.
Food wise, it's very comparable to other Greek places in Vancouver like Olympia, Stepho's etc. Souvlaki, roast lamb, moussaka, dolmathes... all the usual suspects. The calimari comes with excellent tzatziki and lots of lemon and the pitas come hot out of the oven brushed with olive oil. My only complaint is that every dish comes with the same lemon potatoes, rice pilaf and Greek salad as every other Greek place I've ever been to. There must be more interesting sides in Greek cuisine and if anyone knows of a place that's different, I'd love to hear it. However, if you want basic Greek food, this place is quite reasonably priced and worth a trip if you're in the neighbourhood. Just be prepared to wait a while for your food.
