Before placing the take-out order at the counter I was told that the wait was 10 minutes, 40 minutes later got the food and two miso soups as an apology. If you must, order over the phone. The place seems chaotic and service rushed and the dining are a bit on a dirty side so wouldn't recommend dining there. The sushi is not bad, the portions are generous and fresh, the quality of preparation is hit and miss depending on which person behind the counter prepared your food, sometimes you get it nicely put together sometimes a falling apart mess. Cheap and large "Japanese" style grub, not a fine dining by any means but then again the place never aspired to be one.
Went to ABC for 11 AM breakfast today. Go there once a month. I have 4 allergies and have found them very accommodating and have never had a reaction after dining there. The last two times, however have not been as good. I never eat butter and they are now using artificially flavored cooking oil, and it tastes awful. It is very strong artificial tasting and almost tastes stale. The hash browns are cooked on the grill which is sprayed with this oil. Half of the hash browns taste good but some of them taste like they have been soaking in this oil and it is stale to the point that I spit some out. They are also really overcooked on the edges. It's as if they have a huge pile of hash browns on the grill and just keep adding to it and so some of them are overcooked. They used to be so good before they started using that butter flavored oil.
I had a 3 egg omelette of spinach, tomatoe and onion. It was small like a 2 egg omelette and the spinach and uncooked onions were just set on top, not cooked in. The onion was in big chunks not diced and not good. I didn't eat them. Disappointing.
We were at a table just outside the kitchen and the bathroom. The air freshener in the bathroom is always very strong but every time someone went in or out we got a strong air freshener smell and that kind of spoils the taste of the food.
The Kitchen door was propped open and I think I could also smell some kind of cleaner coming from the kitchen.
Service was quite good. They took our order about 10 minutes after we got there and the food was brought out about 20 mins after that.
Coffee is good.
Truth be told, I would go back for sure. I found the food very delicious, but I also found it a good $7- $12 a plate for than you can find the same dish in other yummy Thai restaurants. The place is small & well décor'ed with great staff. The way the food is served is definetly more fancy that how Thai food is served-guess that's how they justify the over charge.
Ive eaten several times at The Coquitlam Grill for breakfast & I really like it & so do my kids. I think they are in the coupon book too!!! Nice staff, not a fancy place. Good food. I like their omletes & its good place to go after a cold morning watching soccer. Id go back...
I go there fairly often to grab a beer, but the food is gross. We had a big table of us & 3 of us sent our food back. I think that salsa that came with our natchos was actually off....like totally rotten. Super gross.Go full so that you don't end up paying for their gross food out of necessity due to hunger. Good beer. Good staff. Nice, humble environment.
I think feeling the pressure from Cactus Club and Browns, Milestones has stepped up. Having kept most of their menu favourites, they have added a "celebrity chef" menu that far surpassed the stale Rob Feenie fare.
We were intending on going to Browns but the line up wasvery big and noticing that most of the patio partrons were drunk 20 year olds hooting and doing shots we decided to leave and go somewhere mor conducive to a nice social evening.
We were thinking of earls, but don't like the plastic fake bimbo waitresses who know nothing about service just posing for a tip. So we went to Milestones. It was busy but no line up - perfect. Out hostess was smart and could actually create a full sentence without the word "Like".
Our waitress was also, classy, professional an over 25. WOW 2 for 2. We had fantastic service. And, the food was actually amazing. The quinoa shrimp was the most inovative delicious thing I've had in a long time. Crab cakes - NO filler. All crab. Thai noodle stir fry excellent as were the 2 amazing chef menu desserts.
A plus all around. Good for you MIlestones - you finally have got it right. It was awesome - I think buster's undies were too tight.
Well not quite. Let's see - I went there today because I stopped in on my lunch hour to pick up some glasses.
There was a line up even at 11:30 on a Wednesday. I'm not sure of the quality of the hot food but the masses seemed to be sucking it up. They had chicken noodle soup labelled as vegetarian vegetable soup. I pointed it out to some staff member who did nothing. They have tilapia or some other cheap fish for $9.99 - no bargain. Laughable actually.
The veggie wrap was $4 - one wrap cheese and raw veggies - they're still making big money.
The cinnamon bun and coffee is good for $2 but the cinnamon gets over powering.
The breakfast is the best deal for $2 or whatever it is. Liquid scrambled eggs, unsalted hash browns and meat. But if you want to skip one item and have more of another that's ok. They do make good coffee. Very good.
A lot of people were having chili and garlic bread - seemed very popular.
I dunno - I never look forward to eating there but if I have jingly change in my purse and I'm hungry when there I'll indulge. Definately not a destination . Maybe I'll try hitting it up for drinks on Friday night - it's licenced.
this is the perfect place to visit if u want to have pizza...u get delecious pizza's at best prices.service is too good and quality of pizza is excellent. Many combo deals are also available which saves a alot of money...
delivery is also very fast and well on time .there no better option than this place to have pizza.Must try for all.
After quite a few years of dining here, I can honestly say this place has taken a huge turn for the worst. Always better than the rest (earls, cactus etc) of "those" places, it is now a small step above abysmal. The recent menu changes on certain items are so unusual (read bad) that the only motivating factor could have been the bottom $$$ line, and NOT a better menu of choices. I really don't want to get into details here, but if you enjoy the place, keep it simple with burgers or sandwiches... something that really can't get screwed up in the process. I tried the new mussels dish with their usually killer calamari, amongst other things, and it it was sooooooooooo bad ..... like a goodyear tire product. I recently found out that all business decisions for milestones are now made back east, which means they have no concept of whats really going on locally. But, in their defense, the staff is absolutely first rate......
Anyways, I ( we) wont ever be back as the above experience is usually the first step when restaurants are likely to close their doors in the future.
I have been a regular patron of O sushi for over 5 years and have never left displeased with my experience. I constantly tell all my friends about how good this place is, the sushi is delicious and fresh, there isn't a single roll I haven't enjoyed! Every friend I have taken there has agreed with me that it is hands down the best sushi in the lower mainland. Though I have 3 sushi places within walking distance of my house, I'd rather get in my car and drive up to westwood plateau. I'd reccomend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best sushi
I have been here many times but last time was particularly good. Try the lettuce wraps! The bandara salad is also fantastic. The service was great, and the food came out quickly. Will continue going here. I have never had any issues at a Cactus Club. The only thing I could critique is the fact it's so dark in there, even on a sunny day.
This restaurant replaced mui garden with no changes in the decor.
We thought of giving this place a try so we ordered a few dishes. The place seems to have alot of patrons and my guess was they were all there to give this place a try.
We ordered the BBQ pork as it seems to be their speciality. Turned out to be a big disappointment. The pork was tough and chewy like something that you will get at the T&T "price reduced" section before closing time.
Waiters seems to be in a constant state of confusion. They need to recheck on what a customer has ordered.
Overall the food was sub standard.
We loved Mui Garden but this place....we will give it a miss.
Note: - The best BBQ meat around burnaby / vancouver area is still at the Chong Lee supermarket at Rupert.
Sushi Oyama in Metrotown has been one of our favourites for years now. We were quite excited when we saw the "opening soon!" sign in Coquitlam since it's closer to home.
We've been to the Coquitlam location 4-5 times since it's grand opening and have found it to be just as good as the Metrotown location in terms of food. In terms of service it's actually quite improved with the ability to ring for a server via a button on each table!
Ambiance is a bit more updated than the Metro location, and quite modern. Booths and private rooms are spacious and less cramped.
Food quality we've found is on par with the Metro location, and the menus are identical.
Another plus is way fewer crowds. We've found almost any time we've come there has been ample room.
The only down side is parking is mediocre. The lot is small, and often packed with folks visiting other establishments in the area. There is limited street parking available as overflow though.
Overall we've quite enjoyed the new Sushi Oyama in Coquitlam and hope they're here to stay!
I first went to Cora thanks to some friends who moved in to the area. We had a large group that grew bigger due to lack of communication, and they were able to accommodate us well.
The place is very bright and uplifting. Almost geared towards a kids look, but still bearable.
The key thing about this place is the fruit. SO much fruit and its great and healthy!
Many of the plates come with loads of fruit and the pictures really do match the meals! Some very interesting artistic culinary skills happening here.
I recommend getting a smoothie here. One of the best I get, and draped in a few pieces of fruit as well. Well worth it!
Complaints made by other reviewers regarding the crepes are correct. They are some sort of midway between a pancake and a crepe, so be forewarned. I didn't mind personally, but I knew about it walking in.
I guess the service will depend on who you get, but the very pretty girl serving us was actually quite good. Despite the place getting totally packed and crazy busy with a line out the door, she was able to get our drink and food orders promptly but after we were served everything she didn't come back as often. It is REALLY busy there.
The prices were reasonable. Fruit prices vary depending on what you get, and if you get a fruit meal there is quite a bit of variety. If you are planning on hitting a Denny's or IHOP for breaky, consider this place. About the same price point with waaaay healthier options.
Come early. Showing up at 9 had little issue with seating, but come around 10 and its a different story. Be prepared to put your name on the list and wait in line for a few minutes.
Ok, so it's Denny's.. well believe it or not, if the people working there *really* don't care enough it can be an awful experience. This one seems to be run well and the server I've had most times is a nice lady who does her job well. The food is cooked as it should be and arrives quickly. After a tip I'm usually paying close to $20 which isn't the best value really at all.. but I guess it's more a convenience than anything to have a decent meal done properly at strange hours with a smile. I'll return for sure.
I agree with other reviewers that it was a well-lit, cozy diner with plush booths with decent diner-type food. We went for lunch on a Monday with our two and four year old boys. Pros: They have high chairs and a kids menu at $6.99 with drink and dessert and handed out crayons to the boys. Cons: My two year old said, “mommie, why she not wearing pants?” referring to the hostess in a miniskirt. I looked around and saw TSN streaming from all corners of the place along with dedicated screens for each of the four counter seats and other scantily clad and busty waitresses, I realized that this was a place vying for sports bar traffic. This was something we did not notice during our first visit for Sunday brunch months ago. It is located in a strip mall with a Club 16 fitness so I guess that makes sense. Just not a place I’d take my family with young children again.
This Japanese Sushi shop moved from the old shop opposite in the same corner of the mall.
They had some renovation and now have a better seating area than before, but the price is more!
I don't mind paying a little more if the food & service quality are good!
Ever since it is operated in this new location by 2 new guys ( The old one was managed by 2 older guys), I have never had a happy nor satisfied experience in terms of quality and service!
The cashiers & servers never greet customer with even a "Hi!".
Customers stand in front of the cash registry waiting to order, but they are always busy tidying the till, the counter, etc. A friendly greeting like " What can I do for you? or simply Hi" is completing missing, they would just look at you coolly!
I once asked them not to shed the sesame seeds over, because sesame is too strong for the natural taste of seafood. They replied: "We never put sesame seed unless customers asked for it!" That day, I got the chopped scallop & Philadelphia rolls, OMG, they are all covered with sesame seeds!!!!!
Last Saturday, I went there with my daughter, hoping this time they have some improvements!
At the first glance the rainbow rolls and Philadelphia Rolls seemed alright, except that the pieces at the end of the rolls looked not having enough stuffing, and were very limp and small!
After the first bite,I found the rice was in fact not cooked thru! What a shame for Asians not knowing how to cook RICE!
The chalky taste really upset my stomach ! Breaking the rice apart, I looked closely and found the inside of the rice was still white - really uncooked!
I brought the dish to show them to the 2 cashiers, unbelievable they just stared at me, then turned to the 2 preparers behind the counter, who were also staring at me!
They all said nothing, not even a word in comfort, but wore a grin like we are making something big to ask for something in return....
Feeling upset and disappointed, we just finished the cheese and fish stuffing but leaving the rice behind!
I don't think this location is worth trying for the next time!
so most of the reviews were positive and not sure how..I took a chance and went there 2nd time..the food was microwaved and the sushi was old and smelled...the tea was cold..and after i made a comment all they said was oh ok...sushi has to be fresh at all times...just horrible..
Where do I begin? Well how bout with the bizarre cooler that greets you as you walk in. It had a droopy, sorry looking chocolate cake with about 15 cans of spray whipping cream. Hmmm. Guess we're not.ordering dessert tonight! We were excited to try out Pasta Polo, we're somewhat new to the area & had an Entertainment Book coupon. We'd definitely be going back if it was good. We were seated with our 1 year old with no where for him to sit. After the hostess abruptly walked away, I walked (with baby in tow) back to the pile of high chairs & lugged one over myself. The menu is gigantic which gave us pause. A kitchen can't handle such a huge amount of choices well. Our dishes sounded fine. When they came mine was a heaping pile of blah pasta. I mean Chef Boy R Dee is tastier. Not kidding! It came with the fattiest gross ribs I may have ever had. My hubby's steak reminded him of a tv dinner. The bathroom was ice cold, no heat. Our server really did the best she could but I didn't even eat my meal. Oh & there was really loud banging ????? coming out of the kitchen. I will NEVER eat here again. Our bill would have been over $50 without that coupon, Keg prices for absolute garbage. I created an account specifically to write this review. Ugh, you've been warned.
I've purchased some pastries from the bakery and it was gross. The pastries went bad and I brought them back to the store. The owner instead of apology and refund or at least offer something else, he asked me to take my business somewhere else and do not get back to the store. He was supper rude he has bad temper and he was ready to get violent. I am not sure with this customer service how long more he can survive. I've tried to support this business but now I regret it. I've should of called the cups when he yield at me. Please don't waste your time and money in that store!!!!
